Home Hub Wireless Problems

Hi,
I am on BT infinity and have Home Hub 3 (I think) with software version running is 4.7.5.1.83.8.94.1.11 (Type A).
Normally I get very good wireless connection / speed, however there seems to issue with the automatic (smart wireless). It seems to switch to channel 6 then after sometime links drops and I get very slow or no Internet connection. When the link drops I get message on the laptop that there is limited wireless connectivity.
I have to log in to Hub with Ethernet cable to change to different channel manually. I have no issue finding the good working channel manually, but hub keep switching back to automatic (smart wireless) and prefers channel 6, which after some time start to play up.
Does anyone have any suggestion / solution to this annoying issue.
Thank You

The answer is to select a channel manually, and disable smart wireless, as it gives people a lot of problems.

  • BT Home Hub - Wireless Problems

I have been having a problem with some but not all wireless connections on my home hub. Normal browsing, email with iPads , iPhones and laptop etc are fine. However I have 2 printers that I connect using wi-fi and an apple time capsule and the sky box seem to be loosing wireless connections about once every day, the only remedy is to shut down the home hub and reboot, then all is fine for a day or so. I have had the home hub for over 6 months and this has only just started happening in the past few weeks,
    Hope someone can help.

you can try downloading inssider3 (istumbler if MAC) and then run it. This will show the broadcasting networks round about you and their channels including your own. If you then enter your router and change your wireless channel to a free or less congested channel.

  • Home Hub wireless problem

I have a problem with my bt home hub v2, the wireless connection does not give out a dhcp address. I have recently moved across from virgin where I had no problems with the wireless so I know my pc is ok.
Has anyone had this and knows of a way to resolve it?
I have defaulted the HH a couple of times and tried changing wireless channels but all to no avail.

was just trying to think of anything, my xbox and pc were on fixed ips so had to change them with new kit since different ip range.
the new router seems to operate alot better than my belkin, UPnP for example worked when i used it on software where as belkin it didnt.

  • BT Home Hub Manager problems.

    Hello BT,
I am currently having problems connecting to the BT Home Hub Manager.
    I have tried the following:
    api.home
    192.168.1.254
    http://bthomehub.home/
These all end up with the connection timing out because it's taking too long to respond. All other websites are working fine and well for me. I've also tried this on Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari web browsers.
Also, I have asked a few other people in my area I know who are with BT and they are not getting the same problem as me.
    Kind regards,
    Ryan.

The HH internals sometimes get in a tangle, and if you happen to have made any changes to the various settings, that can sometimes compound matters.
Try doing a Factory Re-set (paperclip into small hole at side of hub) and see if that resolves matters. Doing a re-set will remove any settings that you may have applied, so be prepared to make the settings again if necessary. The re-set also restores the default wireless settings which are displayed on a label on the back.
If that does not solve it, you may need to ask for a replacement HH.

  • Home Hub 3 problems

Had infinity since June 2010, recently moved home (from one infinity exchange to another infinity exchange) and as part of the move the infinity install was done at my new property and bt provided a new Home Hub3.
Connecting via a ethernet cable works fine.  But trying to connect wirelessly is another issue.  Three mobile phones (2xAndroid and 1x Blackberry all b/g/n) work fine.  My HP laptop (4 years old HP drivers nx7410 b/g) connects but the signal drops out repeatedly and is v'slow, the other laptop which is newer (Samsung n710 intel wireless driver and utility b/g/n) won't connect at all, either via WSP or by manually setting up the connection with the PSK.
I swapped the homehub3 for my old infinity homehub2 and everything connects in an instant.  Is there something I should do for the Home Hub 3, I've tried enabling and disabling WSP but no joy.
    Any clues?

    Hi All
I joined BTI about 6 weeks ago and have been having problems with iPad and iPhone speed since the change. I have a whole host of computers in the house so I knew it was something specific to iDevices. After much digging it looks like the issue maybe to do with QoS (Quality of Service) it's a protocol that's meant to ensure good service thing is BT HH3 sets it automatically and you don't get the option to switch it off iDevices don't seem to like QoS so I started messing with the HH3 settings.
Before my changes ipad was getting somewhere between 0.58mbps and 1.5mbps instead of the 38mbps seen from my 'doze 7 PC and MacBook Air. So I set the Channel manually by going in to advanced setting then back to wireless, you'll need to check what signals are in your area so you don't choose an over used channel. I used inSSIDer for this. To be honest that didn't make any difference to the iPad's so I started looking at the other settings.
I changed the wireless interface type from 802.11 b/g/n to 802.11 b/g and reset the HH3, that seems to have done the trick as the iDevices are now showing 20+mbps consistently. I haven't got any 'n' devices but honestly 'n' is only any good for transmitting information between your local WLAN computers anyway as the higher bandwidth of 'n' would be wasted on the WAN link which has a max of 40mbps which 'g' already exceeds at 54mbps (OK I know it probably averages out a lot lower in real terms).
So if you're having speed problems you might want to try this, nothing stopping you flipping the setting back if it doesn't work or if it introduces other problems.
    Good luck.

  • Multicast - Home Hub Wireless?

Is it possible to enable the home hub to send multicast signals over its wireless network?
My hub was installed upstairs and my YouView box is downstairs, so a cable is out of the question. I have my YouView box connected to the wireless network through a wireless adapter that supports multicast I just didn't realise that the homehub did not! (I did think at the time of ordering that it was odd they didn't reccomend a wireless adapter but they didn't advice agaisnt it either!)
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you mean replacing the single cable (or short cables and powerline adapters) connection between the HomeHub and the BTTV box with a wireless bridge then you wouldn't need to support more than two multicast streams at any time.
The BTTV box can only tune into a maximum of two streams at the same time (watch/record or record/record). The BT local multicast system is only providing to your house the one or two streams that you are currently tuned into. That is why it only needs a minimum spec of around 15Mbps (to cater for two simultaneous HD channels), and yet can in theory offer the viewer a choice from several hundred channels. The customer having Infinity guarantees this minimum spec is met.
Back to the question of whether you can use a wireless connection between the HomeHub and BTTV box? The HomeHub won't send the multicast output over it's in-built wireless as far as I know, so I think you would need to use wireless dongles at both ends that mimic a hard-wired ethernet connection. I see no reason why this wouldn't work in theory as long as the signal was stable and fast enough. It would need to avoid interference from the normal wireless signal from the HomeHub if that wasn't turned off.

  • Home hub causing problems with phone line

I posted earlier about a phone extension problem- it seems the hub is the problem. My phone had no dial tone just lots of noise, there doesnt seem to be a wiring problem, however if I unplug the home hub the phone will work fine! I have tried a new cable to the hub, tried microfilters which I know are ok, but the problem is no dial tone ,noise, or a recorded voice saying please try again. I assume the hub has a fault unless someone has any other rsuggestions

have you tried connecting the hub and a phone to the test socket using a filter

  • Home hub 3 problem

Had the home hub 3 only 2 weeks now and the hub was working great, then it suddenly drops totally and only the openzone and btfon appear. Once you reset the hub it appears again. None of our laptops pick it up until you switch the hub off and on again. Next day you switch on your pc its not their only btfon and openzone

It could be a faulty home hub, but look here first Wireless Help

  • Home Hub 5 Problem

I have just moved over to BT Infinity and should have been switched over yesterday. However, BT now tell me there is a problem with the Home Hub 5 that they are 'trying to resolve as quickly as possible'. Does anyone know how long this has been an issue and how long it will take to resolve - a rough timescale would be nice!

  • Home Hub Password Problem

I have been trying to enter the configuration screens of my Home Hub 1.0 but my old password stopped working for some reason. So, I tried resetting the home hub by pressing the button on the back for about 20 seconds, then went back to the home hub configuration screen and was told to create a new password. I then entered the serial number from the back of the home hub as well as entering a new password twice (I was very careful to make sure I input all these details correctly). This did not work, so I tried it all again and entered a different, new password but it still wil not work.
Anyone have any ideas what the problem is and what I can do about it?

  • IPad lost home hub wireless connection

Our iPad has stopped connecting wirelessly to our Home Hub 3 whereas it worked perfectly before and an iPhone still connects OK. We've tried the Helpdesk advice of isolating BTWiFi and BTWiFi-with-FON by using "Forget This Network" but it still brings up the message "Unable to join the network BTHub3" etc.  Any ideas?

Carry out a factory reset of the Homehub by pressing a pin into the red recess on the hub for about 20secs. When connecting the iPad use the PASSKEY found on the homehub or the pull out card that came with the hub. Do not use your email password or any other passsword.

  • Anyone else have time capsule and BT home hub 3 problems

I have a a home home hub 3 with Bt infinity. I have a time capsule connected to it by ethernet. both are creating wireless networks but whenever the time capsule is on I can not connect to the HH wireless network. Any suggestions?

Setup the TC wireless to manual settings so you can reinforce the HH3 and not compete with it.
    So
    1. The TC should be in bridge. Leave the HH to do routing duties.
    2. Go to the TC wireless setup page.
Change the wireless name to match the HH3.
Change the security of the TC to match the HH3 or change the HH3 to match the TC.. only WPA2 AES = WPA2 Personal should be used.
    Change to the same passkey.
    3. The only difference you need between the two boxes is wireless channel. I recommend you set this manually.
In the TC use 11 or 13 in UK is also fine for 2.4ghz. Use 6 or 1 in the HH. And make sure it is set for 20mhz bandwidth not 40mhz. I do not have a HH to look at but all wireless in the presence of another WAP should automatically drop back to 20mhz.. but some device allow an override.. do not use or force 40mhz wireless.. it will cause issues.
Depending on the utility you use you may also have to set a channel for 5ghz in the TC.. use one of the lower channels for example 36-40.
    4. You can also change the name of the 5ghz channel to force devices to use it.. if you are close by the 5ghz in the TC offers much higher speeds.
Does it make sense? I can give screenshots but I am running Snow Leopard on this computer and it is different in v6 utility on Lion or ML.
If you do use Lion you can install the v5 utility easily..
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
For some manual setups it is much easier to use.

  • Newbee Needs Help. BT Home Hub Wireless connectio...

    Dear Forum,
As a newbee I thought I would ask the masses. I have a black home hub 2. It is hard wired to a number of PC's in the house, plus it also provides a wireless connection reliably most of the time. Occationally, every day/other day it refuses to provide a reliable IP address. My wireless is set as follows:-
    Channel 11, WEP, 64 Bit.
    Current firmware
    Version 8.1.H.J (Type A)
    Last updated
    08/12/09
I can attach fine normally, but then it fails to connect (on a know working machine) after a reboot. I get the error "Limited or no Connection". This occurs with Pc's running VISTA, and Macs?
The only resolution I have found is to RESET the hub. Then all devices attach fine. If I disable wireless on my portable and re-enable it, it also fails. Once in a failed state its only resolution is to RESET.
    Can advice?
    Many thanks
    Mike

you might want to change the wireless settings of the hub to 802.11 b/g to see if this makes a difference, also can try change the wireless channel as well to see if that makes a difference
