Home Media for MAC

When will the Home Media software be available for MAC users?
Thanks!

What would you use a Mac Mini for?
Movies: You can insert DVD discs into the combo or superdrive and watch DVDs or maybe even burn your own!
Music: You can play music from iTunes or play your own CDs from it!
Pictures: You could have family album slideshows from iPhoto!
Videos: You could download videos and watch them on the display!
TV: You could buy a TV tuner(e.g. Elgato is the only tv tuner company i know which specialising for macs)
So basically, you can use the Mac mini as a media centre hub! I would recommend hooking it up to a large Cinema Display or LCD screen! That'll look so cool! Make sure your display has a DVI port if you want to use that or you could connect your old monitor with a VGA port as Apple provide a DVI-VGA adapter along with the mac mini in the box.
You could also get a specialised remote control for the Mac like this:
http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ukstore.woa/90901/wo/tU5XbQaVhE6u3hnpfzM 1cHvpKo8/3.0.19.1.0.8.25.7.11.0.3
ATI Remote Wonder remote control
You could also get a wireless keyboard and mouse!
You'd have a great media centre there! And it'd be much more flexible than Windows XP Media Centre Edition(in my opinion its a load of rubbish).
You've actually inspired me to do my own media centre now! Thanks!

    Hi,
Is anybody using Virtual PC Home Edition for Mac 7 & is it any good?
    Have you had any problems?
    Jeff

Virtual PC is outdated and probably doesn't even run under Snow Leopard (since you're posting in the Snow Leopard forum).
For running Windows software next to Mac software, your current choices are Parallels Desktop, VMWare Fusion, VirtualBox, and others. All will run much faster than Virtual PC anyway.

  • RE: Using Windows Media for Mac

Please Help!! I have downloaded music to my Mac from Sprint.com. The music files are .wma! I did download Windows Media for Mac so that I can play my although when I attempt to play the music the message on Windows Media is that the path and name of file are wrong and therefore it does not play the music at all. Any suggestions.

You should use flip4mac it has replaced the windows media player for mac. I would also suggest Perian as it adds to QTimes abilities.

  • Formatting new Seagate FA GoFlex Desk Media for Mac

I purchased a 2 TB external hard drive, which needs to be formatted for Mac. See details below:
Name : Seagate FA GoFlex Desk Media
    Type : Disk
    Disk Identifier : disk1
Media Name : Seagate FA GoFlex Desk Media
    Media Type : Generic
    Connection Bus : USB
    Connection Type : External
    Writable : Yes
    Ejectable : Yes
Mac OS 9 Drivers Installed : No
    Location : External
    Total Capacity : 1.8 TB (2,000,398,933,504 Bytes)
    S.M.A.R.T. Status : Not Supported
    Disk Number : 1
    Partition Number : 0
I clicked on the icon, went to "Partition" and selected "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". I clicked "Partition", which it did quickly, but now everything is ghosted. The icon also does not appear on the desktop.
    Several questions:
    1) Do I need to select the "volume scheme" - I did this once and it remained on "Creating Partition Map" for several hours
    2) Do I choose "GUID Partition Table" or "Apple Partition Map?"
    Thank you much...

Actually, I just checked some more details of my iMac:
    Machine Name: iMac
    Machine Model: PowerMac4,2
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (2.1)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 800 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
    Memory: 256 MB
    Bus Speed: 100 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.3.4f2
So with a PowerMac, will I have booting problems with a USB-connected external hard drive vs. a Firewire? From what I can tell, USB moves far slower than Firewire
The USB external drives (Maxtor, Seagate) are "Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec" while the Firewire (WD) is "Connection Speed: Up to 400 Mb/sec." That is bad...
    Pls. advise...

  • Using Windows Media for Mac OS X

When I try to download and open Windows Media for the Mac OS X, I get the message "There is no default application specified to open the document "Windows Media.stix" with a tab marked 'choose application' under that.
Naturally, I know what to do, or what application to choose....not. What application am I supposed o choose to open the download and how am I supposed to know that?
    thank you!

Thanks for the message and info.
Before I install Flip4Mac, I should probably uninstall the Windows Media Player for OS X first, correct? In my application folder, I have an icon marked "uninstallflash_playerosx.dmg". (I also have "installflash_player_9_ubbeta.dmg" in the applications folder as well.) Are these connected to the Windows Media installer, or are they something else? I don't know what they are or what they do.
Something is also definitely wrong with my chat functions--which relates to flash player, I think? In downloading interactive software or chat room functions from websites, I get the image of the recycled coffee cup---but that's it. Nothing starts, nothing works. I have 'enable java' 'enable javascript' and 'enable plug-ins' all checked under preferences in Safari.I have both java 1.4.2 and java 1.3.1 settings (with 1.4.2 as the default I guess, but am not positive).
Are the Windows Media and flash and chat functions related? Is there something else I should be doing to activate chat or interactive functions?
    Thanks again!

  • Uninstalling "locked" windows media for mac

i recently installed microsoft's windows media player for mac, and i should have known better. my computer is acting strange, getting stuck. i tried to put it all in the trash, but it says i can't because half a million files are locked. i have tried to get info on these files to unlock them, but can't find them, and the ones i do find are unlocked. obviously i am not terribly great with the computer, and i really want to get this microsoft junk off my computer. anybody know how with step by step instructions' page i can go to? thanks much

    Welcome to the discussions!
How exactly did you install Windows Media Player for Mac? Or, you mean Flip4Mac? If you installed the first, it should be in your Applications folder. You can trash it, run Spotlight, find all relevant files and delete them from there. You can also find the application shortcut, Ctrl-click and from the dropdown menu, choose "Get Info". In the pane that will arise, look for permissions, make sure it's "read and write"-just to verify you haven't inadvertedly change privileges. ( Same goes for all applications, it's not specific to something ).
But, are you sure about the cause of your trouble? Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility > Repair permissions as a first step and make sure your Software is updated from System Preferences > Software Update. Also ( if you have Flip4Mac ), look up it's window pane at System Preferences and look if this also needs updating.

  • In-Home Agent for Mac doesn't work - never has

I signed up for FIOS service several months ago and have never been able to get Verizon In-Home Agent to work. I can get as far as the level shown below, but when I select one of the grayed options, I get the spinning icon. (See it at lower left corner of the window.) That lasts for a few minutes, then nothing happens - it just goes back to the same window.
I even tried clicking the "Click here to provide your Feedback." I get the same icon (hard to see, but it's to the left of that link), then back to the same window.
    Running Mac OS X 10.6.8.
    Any ideas?

I just got FIOS in my all-Mac household. Nothing works for the Mac in FIOS. Not the FIOS t.v. widgets, In-Home Agent or anything else. Verizon is the most Mac unfriendly telecom company I've ever seen. Ironic if you think about what its products are.
All that will work on a Mac is that it will connect to the Internet. Period.
Verizon, would it really be too much cost or trouble to develop more Macintosh options?

  • Need older version of In Home Agent for Mac

I have used In-Home Agent several times to troubleshoot my emails, etc. Recently I got the latest version for Macintosh but it won't run on my computer. It requires OS X 10.7 and I am running 10.6.8.
Is there somewhere to download the previous version?

Try the In-Home Agent-Feedback form located at www.verizon.com/connect
And that looks like it goes to a group at verizon.  Maybe they can get you connected with a link.

  • Downloading Windows Media for Mac

I have recently bought a new apple and I am trying to download the Windows Media Player from the download site. When the set up program downloads and I try to open it to set up the player a window pops up saying unable to find application to open program has anyone who has done this please tell me how to download this program.
    Cheers

Welcome to Discussions - it's not clear which model of iMac you have, intel or G5. In any case, are you sure it's the Mac version of WMP? You need to use the free application Stuffit Expander, which should open most things.

  • Installation of Home Office for Mac blocked by Safari although program is closed

Hello, has anybody experience with this problem?

Yes, it's because you didn't QUIT safari you only CLOSED it.
Hover the cursor over the Safari icon on the dock, and click-hold for 2 seconds till you get the pop-up menu. Then select QUIT.
Now you can continue with the Home Office install. (light under the safari icon needs to be gone)

  • Window Media Player for Mac

Earlier (in the year) I asked why I could not play Windows Media Files on my MacBook. The answer I got was not satisfying and I feel I have not resolution to the problem.
Someone suggested Flip4 or something and it did not work at the time.
Also, I tried downloading Windows Media for Macs and that would not open on my Mac.
    Is there something I'm missing?
    Is it a lost cause?
I get .WMA or whatever files (home made movies from friends) who have PCs and I cannot watch them. I would like to be able to watch them.

I've used Flip4Mac pretty successfully. (It doesn't always work--I suspect there's .WMV files, and then there's .WMV files. They're mostly the same, but may have been made with differing codecs, and thus, flip might not be able to open that particular codec file.
I know this doesn't provide a workaround--but it's at least part of the answer.

  • How do I get WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER for Mac to work?!

I just purchased a mac for the first time and so far I love it except certain videos I try and download seem to require Windows Media Player which is no problem except for every time I download the Mac version it shows up as a Windows.stix file and is just a bunch of garbage it also says that the system doesn't know what to open it with. Basically, its not an installation application like the file should be. Everyone else I know has downloaded this file fine but my luck is not that goood. Does anyone know why this would be happening or could it just be my computer?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
The SITX file has to be opened with http://www.stuffit.com/ 's Stuffit Expander.
Note Windows Media for Mac will not open DRMed videos. For that you need a copy of Windows to install on your Mac.
You may want to consider writing anyone who just has DRMed videos to make their videos more accessible by making them either available via Quicktime or Realplayer, reminding them Quicktime Broadcaster is free.

  • Office for Mac issues with Lion

Since installing Lion, I no longer have access to my Office for Mac Excel, Word, or PowerPoint...is there a simple fix for this?

    milaneseb wrote:
Both my wife and I use Excel and Word for work.......would you recommend, then that the upgrade would make sense, as our version is pretty old, anyway?
If you don't use Outlook then you could use one of the freebies, Open Office or Libre Office are often recommended, but they are not 100% compatible with MS Office, there will be minor formatting changes, and if you use VBA or Excel macros to help in your work you will have to do without them.
Buy Office 2011 Home & Student for Mac (no Outlook) should be around $100, if you and your wife have individual computers you will need 2 copies.

  • Photoshop CS3, Flash CS4 file for mac

    HI there,
I have a series of software we bought but the media that was delivery was for windows, how to get the media for mac? I have the serial codes and everything but i need the media how do i get it?
    Thanks,
    Denis

No such thing. You can only try this. And just a friendly warning just in case there is a misunderstanding here: If you assume you could just use your Windows serials on Mac, than you are gravely mistaken. Serials are platform specific and your only option would be to upgrade and make the platform switch then.
