Home movies and quicktime

I had old super 8's converted to digital and the company sent me an mpeg.
Once the movies are transferred Quicktime pro hangs half way through. The clock keeps counting but the picture doesn't keep moving. I have downloaded all the newest versions. I purchased QTpro and MPEG2 and have searched high and low for why it is doing this. Imovie will only pull in up to the point that it hangs on QT. Any thoughts?
The files are not corrupt as they do work in windows.

Why Quicktime? Better to use iMovie for this purpose.
But first you need to convert the mpeg files to a DV stream for editing in iMovie.
For that you need mpegStreamclip:
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
which is free, (but you must also have the Apple mpeg2 plugin :
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/ which you already have)
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
which costs $25.

  • Obtaining the full file path specification from Flash Movie and QuickTime icons?

How do you obtain the full file path specification from Flash
Movie and QuickTime icons? I want the path and the file name that
is contained in these icons. I am using a "dive" to run through the
icons of a file, and when I come upon these two types of icons, I
want to obtain the above information that is contained in them. I
certainly can look in the property dialog box to get this info, but
there are many icons in these files, and I want to generate a list
of info based upon the various types of icons that I am processing.
    Thanks

    For Flash
    Trace(GetIconProperty(iconID, #pathName))
    for QuickTime
    Trace(GetIconProperty(IconID, #filename))
For full scripting reference for each of these sprites, open
    up the
Properties panel for each sprite and press the Help button

I am trying to create home movies, and do not have sound on the final disc. The sound is there in imovie and after sharing to idvd. This has only happened a couple of times before and I have made a lot of movies. I have just gone through about 8 discs, all with no audio when I play them!!!

You need to ask for support in the iMovie forum.

How do I get my home movies and avi files to play on my ipad 3?

    1) Download a third party player on the iPad, such as avplayerhd or cinexplayer. Search app store for AVI and read some reviews.
    2) Convert the files in a program such as handbrake, mpegstreamclip on the pc and import them.
    3) Download air video from the app store, install the server software on the pc and stream away.
    Take your pick.

  • What's the difference between Home Movie and Movie Project?

I edit my movies in iMovie. After editing, I 'Share' them to Movie Projects in Finder. There's also an iMovie Home Movies folder that contains duplicates of some of the movies I've created myself. What's the difference between these folders. And, can I delete any of them? Thank you.

  • Quicktime for Windows -- on Vista -- opens a .mov movie once, then won't open the move and Quicktime won't even open itself.  I've installed the latest version, and upgraded it to Plus as well.

I am having trouble opening .mov videos with Quicktime on my PC with Vista.  I installed the latest version of Quicktime for Windows (V.7.7), and upgraded it to Pro.  It will open a .mov file once, then after that it will not open any .mov file and in fact, when I try to open the Quicktime player it will not open itself.  If I switch users to Admin, it all works fine, but when I go back to my regular role (where all of my preferences and programs are there for me to use), the same thing happens.  An .mov file will open once, then never again, and the Quicktime player seems to be disabled.
I've tried different .mov files, so it's not a corrupt file that's the problem.  And, in the past (a couple of Quicktime versions ago, I guess), all of this worked just fine.
Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated!

I have the exact same problem. They play on my Mac under Snow Leopard. Transfer to Vista gets a window with black and white and some other noise. No sound either.

  • Transfer of home movies and have bad tracking

I am transferring a VHS-C tape to DVD and I am having a terrible time with shake and mostly from bad tracking will iDVD clear part of this up.

Hi cc143 - what form does the tracking problem take? For example, does the picture break up slightly along the bottom edge?
If that is the issue, then it will likely not show on a TV because of over-scan.

  • Importing home movies on dvd to imovie--no audio

A few years back I took all my home movies and put them on dvd's(thru some windows app), now once I imported them to imovie with these dvd's they don't have audio. It wouldn't let me import right to imovie, I had to go through disk utilities (new image capture) and the video is fine...just no audio. The audio is there when I play them on idvd. What did I do wrong or what's the best way to import these dvd's to imovie?

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
You can use something like mpegstreamclip (free) to convert the VOB files on the DVD to DV which will then import into im08 for you. You will also need the quicktime mpeg2 playback component plug-in (not free)

  • Itunes 12 can't import shared home movie to iTunes library

HI. I am trying to import, or add to my desktop iTunes library, a shared home movie. I have file sharing turned on with both my laptop and desktop. I can see, from my desktop, the shared home movies, and I can even play them, but I cannot find an option to import them into the desktop library. I use my desktop to sync my iPad and ultimately I want to add the movies to my iPad. How do I import a shared home movie from my laptop to desktop, not just see it and play it from sharing?

Join the crowd. If you search this and other forums on the web, you'll find that Home Sharing has limited functionality on PC and Mixed PC-Mac networks. It works fine, Mac to Mac, it appears, but PC's seem unable to talk to Macs or one another on many, many, many people's home shared networks. I hope that Apple finds a way to improve this aspect of iTunes or at least expands its troubleshooting recommendations in the support database.
