Home movies on iPhone

My home movie plays fine when it's in iTunes or Quicktime on my laptop - but faster on the iPhone!
I imported my home movie into iTunes and then under Advanced I selected "Convert Selection for iPod/iPhone" -- for playing on my iPhone. BUT the transferred iPhone movie plays at time and a half--much faster than normal.
I read somewhere that I could also use QuickTime Pro--but that didn't work either.
Any ideas why this is happening?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I have several home movies that work fine on the iphone. However, I converted them in imovie, under the share menu.

  • Need to transfer home movies from iPhone to external hard drive.

Need to transfer home movies from iPhone to external hard drive.  The movies were created with Flip Video, not iPhone.  I can see and watch them via iTunes but have not figured out how to move them from iPhone to hard drive. iPhone is broken (screen) and locked, but is still connecting to iTunes.  I have backed up all photos/videos created with the iPhone, just need to figure out how to get these last videos off the phone.  They are very important.  I am working off a Windows XP machine.  No, the camera wizard will not work for this as these videos are not stored in that area of the phone.
    Thanks,
    E

This is what I have done so far and stuck again.
I opened Image capture plugged in IPhone.  Device brought up camera roll pics only.
I was able to send them to the external hard drive.  Now they have green checks marks.  I cannot seem to remove them. Don't want to delete them yet to put into folder for having prints made..
Devices showed IPhone but would only show  camera roll I have two other folders and cannot seem to go to them to show up on the device  one is Photo library has 300+ pics and
last import folder.   I would like to take the 300 also from the Photo library and also copy them or move them to the external hard drive.
What step am i missing , please help.
    thank you

  • Can't sync old home movies to iPhone 6+ (iOS 8.0.2)

All new iPhone 6+ upgraded to 8.0.2.  I finally got it to sync correctly, but I'm not able to sync my home movies from iTunes on to the phone. I can sync them to my iPhone 4 and iPad Mini Retina running iOS 4.

Hi Powelle, in iTunes 12.0.0.140 Beta, I know that I can sync it to my iPhone 6 which has iOS 8.02.
What's your iTunes version? Perhaps it's just a matter of waiting for iTunes software to catch up.

  • Upload to home movie to iphone

    I have iphone5 and itunes 11.0.5 84bit
I have some home movies that I wnat to upload (sync) to my iphone.
I created a play list and added the file in there.  The list name is "Lectures"  and they are seen in Movies.  When I see in my iPhone screen, I see them under "Movies" but it does not sync.  What is wrong?

    Hello there, Sunguk.
The following Knowledge Base article should provide some good information for troubleshooting your issue:
iTunes: May be unable to transfer videos to iPhone, iPad, or iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1497
    Specifically:
    Video podcasts
Even if you download video podcasts from iTunes, individual video podcast authors usually provide video podcasts, and in some cases, these podcasts may not play on your device. If the podcast is correctly encoded however, it will sync to the device without issue.
    Other video sources
If you did not purchase videos from the iTunes Store, they may not be in a format that you can play on your iPhone/iPod. In many cases, you can convert them to the correct format using iTunes or QuickTime.
Using iTunes: Select a video and choose Advanced > Create iPod or iPhone Version
Using Mac OS X v10.6: Open the video in QuickTime Player and choose Share > iTunes and then select the iPhone & iPod option.
If you're using a Mac with iLife installed, you can also use iMovie to export a movie in an iPhone/iPod-compatible format. For questions on choosing the correct format, refer to iMovie '11: Choosing the correct export option for your iPhone or iPod touch.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

  • Cannot see synced home movies on iPhone 4(iOS 6) and iTunes11

My 2 year old plays with our old iphone, but always wants to watch the videos my wife and I took with our newer iphones.  So I used pulled the videos from our iPhone 4S/5 using iPhoto, used HandBrake to convert to a iPhone 4 compatible format, and loaded to iTunes.  At this point, everything works fine.  Video plays fine and all.
When I drag and drop the movies from iTunes to the iPhone 4, they show as transferring, and appear in the "On This Phone" tab.  But in the "Videos" app on the iPhone, the only thing that is there are music videos from our iCloud.
If I go back to the "On This Phone" tab, and check the "Get Info" of each file individually, it says they are Movies, but if you highlight all and select "Get Info" it shows that they are all Music.
If I drag and drop the same movies to my iPhone 5, they do appear properly in the movies App.
Any thoughts on how to fix the iPhone 4?  I have already done a restore, to no avail.

Thanks for the tip.  I assume you meant the option in iTunes to sync over Wi Fi, or the option to Back-up to iCloud.  The problematic iPhone 4 does not back-up to iCloud, and I tried de-selecting Sync over Wi-Fi.  Same issue exists:
iTunes shows that the videos are on the phone, but I cannot locate them on the actual iPhone using the "Videos" app.

  • How to play home movies on TV via Iphone and NAS Drive?

I have a problem playing transferred home movies on a flat screen tv through the “TV Out” feature of my Iphone 4.
    Brief History:
I have captured about a TB worth of various home movie videos from VHS tape to my PC hard drive in AVI format using AVS Video Recorder. I used AVS Video Converter to convert the AVI movie files to M4V files, to play these movies on my IPhone. I then copied these M4V video files to a Western Digital “My Book Live” NAS Drive which allows me to view any video using my Iphone, via a WD app, without using Iphone internal memory. This works so far.
The problem is that I thought I could show these videos to family members through their big screen TV at their house, and by hooking my Iphone to their tv’s audio/video inputs, via cables, using TV Out and access the videos from my NAS Drive as I could when using the Iphone alone. However, the home movies do not play on the TV! After a conversation with Apple Techs I was told that using the Iphone’s “TV Out” feature to view video onto a TV, via the Iphone , only works for video that is stored on the internal memory of the Iphone itself, not for accessing 3rd party drives as my NAS.
I was told that there are ways around this like:
    -    Syncing certain videos to the Iphone (to save storage space) and viewing them on TV via “TV OUT”
    -    Getting an IPad (bigger screen then Iphone) and accessing the videos through the Apple Cloud
    -    Using Apple TV and accessing movies via the cloud (which means I would have to bring and hook-up Apple TV to the receiving TV). Not sure about this method.
    -    Something about Airplay and mirrioring???
So my question is: Is there any way to access my NAS drive (which has all videos stored) and play those videos on another household’s TV, for many people to comfortably view at once, via my Iphone? Or, is there another method?
    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Where should it be?
the playlist option will show next to where "genre" is only if the playlist contains the appropriate content for the section that you are in.
for example i have a playlist that contains all episodes of a season of King Of Queens. the playlist shows in the "my tv shows" section, but does not in "my movies", as the playlist only contains tv shows.
might be an idea not to mix content in playlists, as you won't be able to play mixed content from a playlist anyway.

  • Can't sync home movie from iTunes to iPhone 4

Whether I use Hand brake or Winx DVD Ripper to transfer my 6 min. home movie to iTunes, it will not transfer to my iphone 4. it does play in iTunes.
I made sure to choose 640p and H.264 and still it wont transfer.
I was suspicious with early attempts because, although they played in iTunes there was an icon under the movie (a cirlcle only half blue). This last time, pre-setting with 640p the movie had a fully blue circle (what does this mean?) and when I synced it actually said "syncing movie..." But, it did not appear in my photo album! I'm really frustrated, spending hours on this. Can anyone help?

Holy crap you guys! I'm spinning with outstretched arms knocking stuff over jubilantly screaming "YESSS"! while you guys sit, spinning in your chairs saying "great we saved another idiot..."
I was told my videos would appear in my photo album.
Thank you. ThanK YOU! I need to go have some fun now. Wow, it looks great!
Thanks again. Am I really an idiot...

  • ITunes organize home movies including mobile format with AppleTV & iPhone?

I use both AppleTV and iPhone to watch and play home movies. I currently organize my home movies under TV Shows and then organize each movie by year. For example - I may have 6 home movies under "Home Movies 2008" and 7 movies under "Home Movies 2009." iTunes organizes the home movies like it would TV Shows so I can see how many movies I have under each heading.
What is the best way to organize movies that are formatted to play on my iPhone? I may have the same name for a movie in 720p and iPhone format. Anyone currently organizing a successful way when utilizing AppleTV and iPhone? Recommendations?

maybe you and apple disagree when something is hd
apple sd movies are around 853x480 pixels

  • New Home Movies from iTunes not showing up on Apple TV

I edit a lot of home movies in Final Cut. When I am done I use "Compressor" to convert the uncompressed movie files to an Apple TV format. The problem I am having now is that after I import them into iTunes they aren't showing up on either of my two Apple TVs when i use Home Sharing on my local network. I am able to play the movies in iTune and play them on my Apple TV by using AirPlay, but I would prefer not having to do this.

Are the files in the library?
I notice that music and movie categories exist, and I can watch the movies I have converted using handbrake, and iMovie for home movies that we're added to my iTunes library....but... I want to sort this into kid movies, parent movies, and home video categories.  Apple TV will be so much more useful if I don't have to use my iPad to air play my home movies.  Browsing a single list of video that includes these 3 distinct functional categories is pretty lame.   Where is my apple freedom here?
I expect this fixed or more easily configured with the new Yosemite and iOS update. I hope there is an Apple TV update to make this better too.

  • Can Apple TV 2 stream purchased videos / home movies converted to MP4 and in my iTunes library?

Okay, so we currently own a 1st Gen ATV and love it, however 99% of it's use is streaming purchased content and/or home movies etc. that I've used visualhub/handbrake to convert and imported into my iTunes library. All in all, once I gave up and surrendered my video content to iTunes and started streaming to my 1st Gen ATV I've grown hooked, I love sorting stuff however I want (I have about 250 movies, entire seasons of X-Files etc. that I've ripped from my own (LEGAL) media and put in iTunes, so when it's sorted properly it's very clean, when it's all alpha, it's a nightmare.
I've tried a few media servers for the PS3, however they just pile all the movies into one big alpha sorted mess, music isn't sorted by genre, no genius, TV shows are not tagged by watched, won't resume properly etc. Boxee / XBMC are a little better, but then again I run those on my ATV as well, and still Boxee doesn't really seem to sort stuff quite as well or play playlists properly.
We're getting another TV for our den and have been looking into other media streaming options, what I love about the Apple TV is the way I can sort all our movies, shows etc. by genre, so the kids can just go to the stuff I've tagged as Kids Movies or I can make video playlists for them and mix up some Planet Earth and Dora the Explorer for our babysitter and movies /shows are tagged as watched/unwatched, if you stop one it will ask if you want to resume, etc.
Looking into the ATV2 it seems like it's just geared for rentals, If that's the case I really am not interested. I like the Netflix option, but then again most newer internet connected TVs do that as well as my PS3, not sure how viable an option the WD TV Live plus or Boxee box is, I'd like to get some newer hardware, but I'm just not sure what route to go.
Does the ATV2 stream media in iTunes TV Shows/Podcasts/Movies folders? It doesn't sync right? So it it all Airplay now?
Is my best bet just to get another 1st Gen? Are there any other media servers that are able to sort stuff by played/genre/etc.
Ug, I'm at a loss! I really love the features of my old Apple TV, and would love to get a new one, but I'm just not sure if it will do everything I'm used to, or if any of the other standalone boxes are better options?
I know this is a bit of a ramble, hopefully someone can make enough sense out of where I'm going and help me out! Thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV 2 will play all the content in your iTunes library that your Apple TV 1 does. It can no longer sync any of it but can stream it all just as the older model did. Airplay is a different feature that lets you stream from an iPad/iPhone, the Apple TV 2 has Airplay the first didn't.
You can still sort and search content by genre, it still marks content watched and unwatched and mainly still lets you organise much as the Apple TV 1 did, with one exception. It doesn't do nested folders, so the ability to tag a movie as a show (ie James Bond) and have all the associated movies in a James bond folder has gone and it lists all these movies individually.
It has a similar situation with TV shows. It will put all TV shows in a series in a folder as the older one did, but the new one lists each series separately whereas the older model would put all the series in one folder.
Not nesting folders is a bit of a pain with large libraries and whilst I don't like it, it's more or less the only compromise I have to make and of course I get additional features too.

  • How Can I Use IMovie with 6TB of Home Movies?

I have 6TB of home movies on a Thunderbolt WD hard drive.  Recently the thumbnails and video has stopped loading and I can't get IMovie to load it all up.  Is there any solution to use this much video with IMovie?

Thanks so much Karsten.   So the fact I'm doing all this now is basically a culmination of (a) old mini-DV technology which meant dealing with the tapes was a hassle for many years (b) Mom & Dad just taking alot of video of alot of the kids, family trips, births, parties, first day's of school, etc. over about a 15+ year period and (c) Now that we finally have the technology to start to deal with all these tapes WITHOUT making DVDs (I tried several years ago, just way to time intensive) and we have big hard drive technology relatively cheaply, I'm trying to tackle this.
The first step was importing 300+ min-DV tapes into IMovie, which took the better part of a year, on and off.  I now have three back-up drives of all that data.  (BTW, I am a die-hard MAC user so everything has to be MAC compatible).
My primary goal for the near term is really not to try to craft neat summarized videos of family events.  That will come later.  The initial goal it to get all of this into some understandable and usable format.  For starters, when pulled up in Imovie, this 15 years of video all just comes out as a gazillion NEW EVENT 3-12-2004-type headings, organized chronologically, which is essential, but with no ability to really know what is what.  I've gone through about a third of the headings and renamed, merged and split them into events with names like Billy's Third Birthday Party or New Zealand Trip Day 5 or Sally's First Day at School, etc. etc.  No editing of the actual content what-so-ever at this point.
What I have discovered, in the process, though, is that the kids LOVE to watch the unedited video of themselves as children...I have to turn it off to get them to stop watching.  Videoing them watching the video actually makes for great video, because they find it a laugh a minute, they vaguely remember various things and places and they have tons of questions about their past childhood.  That's largely what this record was kept for.
Thus, my immediate goal is to get it all into a format with Events all named properly so we know where important events are located, and from there, I'd ideally like to be able to convert key events to Iphone/Ipad/Apple TV mediums to the kids can watch some of it when they'd like - unedited.
The next step (maybe a year or so down the road) is to actually start to try to make the edited "Christmas Party 1998" video, vs. just the raw footage, for the wider family and friends that participated.  A single edited video though can take hours and hours I've learned the hard way.
The problem I'm having is that as I brought in the last 1TB or so of video (2010-2013) from my current Imovie library (which is all digital to start with, no mini-DV tapes involved), now IMovie has stopped loading all the thumbnails (it loads only a portion), so combining, merging, splitting and naming Events is very difficult.
I tried importing it all into FCPX using the free trial, but I found that for whatever reason, instead of ordering things chronologically starting in 1996 forward, that the dates only start in 2012.  Somehow FCPX doesn't recognize the encoded date the video was shot, but instead the dates that I copied it onto my current hard drive.    Can't figure that out, but it makes it impossible to then organize things easily by date since all the events are scattered all around, instead of in chronological order.
Sorry this is long, but this is the problem I'm facing.  I'd really appreciate an expert's opinion of how to tackle this!:)

  • Can I send a iMovie home movie through iMessage?

I made a home movie using iMovie (OS X Snow Leopard), exported it to iTunes (lastest version), and shared the movie to my iPhone 4S (latest iOS update). Now I want to send the movie via iMessage (both parties on Wi-Fi). However, the home movie shows up in the "Videos" app and there is no option to send it. And I can only send videos taken by the iPhone and in camera roll when I try to send via iMessage. Is there any way I can do this?

why don't you upload it to free cloud services like dropbox/skydrive/google drive and then just send the link to that file? In that way, others don't need to download the whole thing to view. They can if they want to.
plus imessage won't be burdened with the size of your upload.

  • Playing movie on iphone issue

I transfer a movie onto iphone, start playing and all works well. If I pause for a few minutes and go back to play, only audio comes through and no video. I must restart the movie and both work again. Happens on multiple movies transferred onto ipod
    any ideas?

No, there is no way of adding video (or audio) data to an iPhone other than by synicng it with iTunes.
However, if you are using WiFi with your iPhone, you could try streraming video to your iPhone from your home cimputer. It would involve setting up a web server and some streaming software on your home computer, and accessing it via Safari on the iPhone... check out the following link if you're interested: http://digg.com/apple/Streamingvideo_toiPhone
