Home movies take forever to upload to ATV

I have an ATV third edition, with the latest 6.1 software.
My iTunes is the latest version 11. something or other
Here is my problem.
I recently got a gopro and have taken some great footage and have uploaded this footage into my home movies secion of iTunes. On my PC it plays great, instant access no problem.
IF I try to play this footage on my apple TV it plays eventually, but as an example an 8 min video takes more than an hour to queue up. This makes the task completely useless so does anyone have any ideas where I am going wrong?
I am clicking on the "computer" icon on the apple tv and searching for the video's there. The video pops up to play almost instantly with a clear picture of the start of the video, but will not play until the progress bar is full and its just very very slow
I also have piles of music which plays almost instantly stored on my PC and played through iTunes.
I also have some movies stored in the same way which I got from "free digital copies" from various blu-ray and DVD purchaces over the years which I added into my itunes. These movies (some over 2 hours long) start to play in no more than 2 mins and play completely fine with no stuttering or lag.
PS. the video format is H.264 is less than 1080p and is 30 fps so the apple tv should play it ok.

well - I have used the "convert movies to apple TV format but that doesnt seem to have helped - maybe reduced the queue time by a few minutes, but when its taking many 10s of minutes to queue up a 15-20 min clip its not much use.
What do you mean with regards to fast start and streaming? - is there a setting hidden away in the ATV or iTunes? Bare in mind purchased movies playing from iTunes play completley fine, its only video that I have made myself that is causing problems
I guess its something I am doing wrong as the user group isnt cimpletely stacked with people saying this feature doesnt work, but its beyond me at this time.

  • My home movies take forever to load when using apple tv..help

Ive got a new iMac, apple tv and airport extreme. Regular movies stream just fine. I moved a home movie into the movies folder of itunes and when I try to play it on apple tv it takes extremely long to even load. I just switched the network the 5ghz but that doesn't help. Can anyone help?

Likely to be slow LAN connection - if possible try a direct ethernet connection to router to see if it makes a difference.
Have you tried with the old router?
As digital copies will usually be less than 5Mbps and standard def you don't need blistering LAN rates, but if slower than this they will need to prebuffer.
If not a connectivity issue (describe how all equipment is connected in the LAN and wi-fi type if any), then consider itunes library corruption (create a new library with a few things in to test) and also security software that may see repeated access from AppleTV as a threat and be slowing/blocking it (eg NetBarrier).

  • IMovie takes forever to upload. Please help.

I have been creating movies on iMovie for years but the one thing that is very problemsome is that it takes HOURS to upload a completed project to quicktime. And the file seems HUGE.
I also began using the "upload to You Tube" which takes minimal time. 20 min at most. Why the difference? How do I create a .mov is a short time. My movies are only about 2 minutes. Should it really take 30 hours?
Also is there a good program that anyone uses to download You Tube videos to movie files? Maybe that's the best approach.
    I'm at a loss here.
    Respectfully,
    Hil

  • Movies take forever to load

I just bought an apple tv two days ago and a new router today as mine was about 6 years old. My apple tv has no problem picking up the songs in my itunes, but takes forever to load movies from itunes. all the movies are digital copies as well. any reason this happens? is it common and how is it fixed?

  • Apple TV rented movie takes forever to authorize

Since purchasing our family's new Apple TV and connecting it to the home network (Mac based, wired broadband, 6mb down), we have rented two movies. The first movie rented fine, authorized fine, downloaded as we watched, and eventually completed... but we had to stop watching for about 30 minutes to allow the ending to eventually download. Not a great first impression, but acceptable.
Today's rental on the other hand has had some hiccups. I gathered up the family and upon trying to start the movie, we instantly noticed that the ATV couldn't authorize the movie (the step after clicking 'play'). There were no errors, just a never ending "Authorizing" on the screen. I tried everything I could think of to get it to Authorize and after 20 minutes my wife finally recommended unplugging the unit and replugging. I tried that and played the movie again. This time the movie authorized instantly and after getting the family all together again (like herding cats), we watched.
Is there a better solution to the lack of authorization... better than unplugging the unit? It was almost like it needed that kick to the shins to get started, but it seemed extreme to me.

Thank you for the response. As for the other things I tried, my knowledge of the unit being limited to my few days of ownership, were to try downloading other items such as previews or trailers. I also tried starting and restarting our iTunes. I also put the unit to standby. All in all, very basic troubleshooting to make sure I had a live connection and not a dud at that moment in time.
I just didn't know if there was something different or more "tried and true" for something such as this.

  • I'm taking an on-line class for college credit, noiw that I've updated my Firefox it takes FOREVER to upload my daily lessons, and sometimes I just can

Many times when I try to upload my lessons, I just can't do it.....so I press 'Ctrl'+R, sometimes that works, but not often enough; sometimes I clear the Cache, once in a while that works, but not every time, I think I need to downgrade to Your Version 6.somthing, I don't know which version I was using when I was getting good results on my lessons page.
    Another Problem:
Every time I press the little '+' tab on my toolbar-to open a new window-now, Yahoo pushes it's way in and insists on being my search engine.
I'm only allowed to use your Firefox engine to do my school work, and I hate the Yahoo engine....I've already uninstalled the Yahoo toolbar, but it seems that ever since I did the uninstall I keep getting the Yahoo search engine popping-up, when I push the little '+' . How do I fix this one ??....or lets just let you figure these things out, and tell me how I can go back to my older version of Firefox.
    OH WAIT !!!
Another thing that, it seems you all have never addressed:
    PRINTING
When I want to print ANYTHING I have to:
    1.) Copy it
2.) Then I have to open my Safari browser
3.) Paste what I copied to my Yahoo compose page in Safari
4.) Highlight what I've pasted on the Compose page
5.) Then I can press my File tab and print EXACTLY what I want to Print
If you all could please somehow let us Highlight EXACTLY what we want to print then just Print it, THAT WOULD BE AWESOME !!
Thanks for your Help, and did I say HOW MUCH I'VE LOVED YOUR EARLIER VERSIONS OF FIREFOX....WELL I DO ....except that is, for the Printing thang !!!
    Thanks Again !!
    Stephanie

And next day, although my addons appear in the sidebar, the compatibility checker (recommended here) tells me that ALL my addons are incompatible. Even the Evernote clipper doesn't work.
Also, I have done small tests and any icons I put into the navigation toolbar disappear when I restart Firefox.
I can't decide whether to download Firefox 9 or go back to a year old 3. something version, but will have to decide within the next few hours as I need to get functioning again.

  • Export Reference Movie takes forever!

XDCAM EX project that is only 17 minutes long is taking 3 hrs to export a reference movie. Why? I've rendered everything in the sequence but it still seems like it needs to re-render everything in order to export a simple reference movie and sometimes it crashes during export and I get nothing after waiting for three hrs...

You can't export a "reference" movie in a different codec Eli, that will trigger a full re-render to a self contained movie. As Tom has pointed out the renders in your "rendered" timeline previously only contained that footage which FCP needed to render for full quality playback, but due to the nature of XDCAM HD/EX's MPEG2 codec, even that footage which can be played back without render needs to be rendered for export, even as a reference movie. The only way round this is to set your Sequence menu > Render options to also render "Full". Then, if and when your sequence is fully rendered, the reference movie export will be fast.

  • My email on my ipad takes forever to upload - what can I do to correct this

I see all my latest emails in the thread but when I click to read an email, it shows me it's "Loading" and just stays there with the progress showing "loading..." and nothing happens...  What am I missing?

12 hours certainly does seem like an extra long time.
Be certain you are using the correct (12 watt charger).
A reset may help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off buttons for approximately 15-20 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons.
No content is affected by this procedure.

  • Mistake, I removed user account safe and takes forever

Can anybody help please, I can't seem to find the complete answer with the search mode.
I bought a new macbookpro and tried to move my large Iphoto library with migration assistent. The assistent created a new user account. I wanted to delete this account and did it in 'safe' mode, stupid me!
It wasn't nessesary because I will be the only one to use this computer. The process of removing (not only the user, but also the 45gig home folder) takes forever... Now more than 24hours and I can't shut down system preferences.
Question: Can I interrupt this process, without affecting my admin account, and re-delete the user in the normal way? (Without the safe-option that overwrites 30 times the things I want to delete) And how?
I know it's best to leave it alone, but time is a factor. Help would be grately appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Peter

That happened because you didn't do the migration when you first booted up in Setup Assistant. Backup whatever you can, like any bundled software (iLife, iWork)
To re-install Restart computer and hold down Cmd+R. Use DIsk Utility to erase your Mac OS X partition. It will take you to Recovery Volume. Follow the directions from there. It should now boot into Setup Assistant and you can do the migration from there.

Every time i try to access the Itunes store it takes forever to load.  It just says "Accessing Itunes Store".
With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:

  • Home movies on ATV via Cloud

A friend of mine is interested in upload his home movies to the cloud, so he can watch on  ATV or iPad.
Is this possible?  If so what file formats are supported?
Can the videos be accessed directly from his windows PC?  If so, how?
    Thanks
    -Evan

The best way is probably by using YouTube.
Upload them to your account, set ot private.  You can even upload videos edited with iPad straight to YouTube using the built-in app, or the web page from your PC.  Set youtube video privacy to private if desired.  Log into your youtube account using the AppleTV.
Can access from anything, Windows PC, Android, iPhones, etc. etc.

  • Once rental in iTunes, ATV takes forever to download/play

I download movie rentals or tv shows in iTunes on my computer, but Apple TV takes FOREVER to download from the shared computer! I can't watch a movie in one go-- it pauses to download and takes forever. How do I avoid this? It never used to happen! Since I can download the movies in normal time frames, the internet speed is not the issue.

  • Trying to move files to trash takes forever, and finder windows take forever to load files/apps

after recently installing Mackeeper (yes, I know..) and attempting to uninstall, my macbook pro 13" al. is taking forever to move a file to the trash, and it equally takes forever to open a finder window. running 10.6.8.

MacKeeper is an exception to the rule that system modifications should be uninstalled according to the developer's instructions. Although not generally recognized as such, MacKeeper is in fact a trojan, because the developer distributes an uninstaller that purports to delete it, but leaves behind something that causes popup ads to appear in the user’s web browser. Try following the instructions here:

I can't personally vouch for the accuracy of those instructions, but others seem to have had success with them.

Now trying to work with my Mac. I have a USB cable, both ends fit, but iMovie '11 does not recognize it. Is there a driver fix for this?

What kind of Mac to you have?  This camera is a tape based DV one that connects best with firewire and I cannot tell if your Mac has firewire.  If your mac *does* have firewire, get a camcorder firewire cable and try again.
ETA:  Oops, I am pretty sure that all the "desktop iMacs" have firewire, so you should be good to go.  You will probably need a cord that goes from FW800 to your camcorder.
