Home network has disappeared

I have networks at home and at work, and I have wired and wireless connections on both. Both wireless networks run off the same model Belkin router and both are on the same ISP - Comcast. A few days ago, my network at home started appearing and disappearing on my MBP. Now I can't see the network at all, yet I can see 4 networks belonging to neighbors.
I thought I might have a router problem, so I took the home router and MBP to work. Worked fine. Strong signal. No problems. The MBP has 10.5.5 OS; both my G5's (Power PCs) are 10.5.4. Routers are up to date on firmware. I already did the 10.5.5/AirPort Safe Mode procedure I saw in another discussion to see if that would help. Oh, and I brought the work router home to see if that changed anything-no go.
So, I'm at a loss here. I know just enough about networking to be dangerous. I listed everything I could think of that might pertain to the problem. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

It sounds like what may have happened is a neighbor may have set up their own Wi-Fi router on the same channel or may have acquired a cordless phone that's interfering with your router's signal.
You may want to download iStumbler and see if it reports any nearby routers operating on the same Wi-Fi channels as your router.

  • Our home network has multiple devices connected by iCloud. Having problem with Calendar. On one iMac, all the events are duplicated. How can I correct that problem? Under the Calendar accounts, I had my Apple id listed and also just iCloud.

Our home network has multiple devices connected by iCloud: 2 iMacs, 2 iPhone 4s, 1 MacPro Laptop, and 1 iPad 2.  When using Calendar, all the events were
duplicated on my husbands iMac.  On his computer, under Calendar accounts, I had included iCloud and also my iCloud ID.  I thought that because I had two accounts listed that were connected to iCloud, that might be the cause of the duplication.  When I deleted ithe calendars from one of the accounts, it resulted
in deleting all of the events on all of our network devices!
I have since entered some new events into Calendar from my iMac and from my iPhone.  These appear correctly on all devices except my husband's iMac where they are again all duplicated.
I have two questions: 1)  How can I eliminate the duplicated events on my husband's computer and 2) How do I retrieve the old wiped out Calendar events from
Time Capsule.  I don't know how to find Calendar in the Time Capsule.  If I find the Calendar information in Time Capsule, how do I transfer it to my current Calendars?
I was obtaining phone help from one of the Apple techs at Apple Support, but our call was disconnected part way through.  Didn't know how to reconnect with the tech.
    Thanks for any help.

  • My home network has an Airport Extreme w/Time Capsule as the base and then an Airport Express and a second Airport Extreme to reach different areas of the house.  Is there a way to use the second Airport Extreme for file storage on this network?

My home network has an Airport Extreme w/Time Capsule as the base and then an Airport Express and a second Airport Extreme to reach different areas of the house.  Is there a way to use the second Airport Extreme for file storage on this network?  Network is administered through an iMac running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2.  Ideally, would like for the second Airport Extreme hard drive to appear on the list of devices in the Finder window.

    Ok.. gottcha
The problem is network wise.. Yosemite is about equal to tin cans and string.. pathetic.
Here is my usual set of instructions to get anything working on Yosemite.
The best way to fix problems is a full factory reset of all the AE in the network.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the AE.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the AE to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg AEgen5 and AEwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
Even better if the issue is more wireless use AE24ghz and AE5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the AE always takes the same IP address.. this is not a problem for AE which is router.. it is a problem for AE which is bridged.. you will need to set static IP in the main router by dhcp reservations or use static IP in the AE which is tricky.
    4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric..
    5. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only.
    6. Now mount the disk of the second AE in finder... manually.
Use Go, Connect to Server and type in the AE ip address.
    SMB://10.0.1.2
Where you will replace that address with the actual address. The network resource should be discovered and then it will request the password.. type that in and make sure you tick to save it in your keychain.
There is a lot more jiggery pokery you can try but the above is a good start.. if you find it still unreliable.. don't be surprised.
Do as much as you want of the above... not all of it is necessary.. only if you want it reliable.. or as reliable as Yosemite in its current incarnation can manage.
The most important thing is point 6.. mount the disk using direct IP address and not names.. dns in Yosemite is fatally flawed.

  • My printers works fine on my home network but disappears on a remote desktop terminal connection

As I don't really know how to post a general addition to the knowledge base, I'm doing in Jeopardy style.  Here is the question to the above answer.  Well close enough.
Many people have reported all over the net issues with printers working just fine on their home network  but disappearing when they connect to a server via RDT.  There are some legit updates needed where windows did not see anything but LPT and COM ports for printer re-direction assignment.  There are Mr. Fix it's for those and registry patches.  When all of that fails, the information highway seems to dead end.
Here is what I learned today via 2 specific printers:  HP1022 and HP2840 lasjerjets.
After many months of frustration and 7 1/2 hours with Microsoft advanced prof support I've finally pinned down this printer and a slew of others.  This problem as far as I have come across deals exclusively with HP printers.  In simple terms:  the drivers are flawed.  This 1022 is a prime example.  It prints locally and via TCP/IP just fine. I have about 7 other printers and dummy printers in my printer folder.  Enter a remote desktop session and ALL of them populate except the 1022.  This shows that the hooks and RDT finders are locating your printers and installing them properly as remote printers.  All except the 1022.
Log out of your RDT session: goto the local 1022 setup and change the printer driver to a PCL driver.  I used a 1200 PCL driver.  Now log back into your RDT server and hockus pocus! there is your printer.  Totally un-usable because the driver will not run this printer.  Caveat:  each time I did this XP crashed (I couldn't get to the properties TAB anymore -- I had to un-install the 1022 and then re-install it with at least 1 reboot in the process)
Moving on we go to the HP OfficeJet/LajerJet2840.  Same thing.  It won't pass through as remote printer in RDT.  Go local.  Set the printer driver to AppleLaserWriter8500 and boom. (same logout, change, back in steps) and your LJ2840 shows up and works.
While I will have to wait until tomorrow I am betting that this will fix the exact same problem with the HP Officejet 8500A all in one with the exact same problem.
Hey HP?  Whats with the drivers??
Another work around if you have a static enough environment is to install your local printer that will not show up under RDT on the server, and then point the port to your fixed IP on your router, and passthru port 9100 to your locally installed printer that is failing.  You can now be on RDT and chooses the network printer that is printing to the TCP address of your home (or office) router.

After updating to system 7.2 on my MacAir, the library folder in my home folder has disappeared.. anyone know if this is a byproduct of OS7.2

Not with 10.7.2 but with OSX Lion since it was released.
Apple has hidden the Library folder by default.
In Finder option-click Go in the menubar and it will appear under Home.
Or permanently with this Terminal command: chflags nohidden ~/Library

  • IPod Touch No Longer Sees Home Network - Has Been Fine For The Past Year!

Tried to connect my ipod to the internet this morning and it connected fine, then the signal dropped out and back in again.
It did the hokey cokey for a while before dissconnecting all together, now it wont even see the SSID of my network.
Ive tried reseting the network settings, reseting the ipod, inputting the nework info manualy and deleting recently downloaded apps.
I went through all the info on the apple website and followed the instructions etc.
I havnt changed anything on my router or ipod and all my other devices connect fine (2nd ipod touch, laptop etc).
On a couple of occasions it has seen my network and ive managed to connect only for it to dissapear again seconds later!
Reset my router (Netgear DG834g) and disabled the security, it saw the network so I selected it and the 'tick' came up by its name but the iPod wasnt assigned an IP or DNS etc then it said 'cannot connect to network (network name)'.
Now on a couple of occasions the ipod has lost its mac address and had no wi-fi options what so ever!
    Any help would be appreciated.

Exactly the same issue for me, this is a replacement iPod I got 3 days ago due to a battery issue.. it has been working perfectly since I got the replacement iPod touch, but now, it picks up no networks at all even though there are at least 4 nearby which it used to pickup.. If I take my iPod right next to the router I get a single bar signal but get the "could not connect to the internet" error and the network is disconnected. I am taking my iPod to the nearest Apple store tomorrow. It's an iPod touch 1g 8GB by the way..
EDIT: And I have tried it on 3 different networks, at college and at home and doesn't pick up any of them, so I highly doubt it's a router issue..

  • The Home icon has disappeared in Firefox 4, How can I get it back?

Installing Firefox 4 made the Home and other icons I used frequently disappear and changed the access to Google. Now, after I finish on a website and want to return to the "Start" page, I have to close the tab and start all over. Not a great design, ya know?

The home icon by default has moved to the right hand side of the navigation toolbar.
If the other icons that you miss are the stop/go/reload buttons, in Firefox 4 by default the Stop, Go and Reload buttons are combined and attached to the right hand edge of the location bar.
When you are typing in the location bar it will show the Go button. When a site is loading it shows the Stop button. At other times it shows the Reload button.
If you want separate buttons stop/go/reload buttons, or want to move the home button, right-click on a toolbar and choose Customize, you can then drag and drop the buttons and place them elsewhere. If you place them in the order "Reload-Stop" on the right hand edge of the location bar they will be combined again. For more details on customizing the toolbar see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/How+to+customize+the+toolbar

  • Home directory has disappeared - help!

I have just logged on to my MacBook and received a message to say that it can't find my home directory - it's just not there in the Users folder.
I am the main user (administrator). There is one other user of the computer who has an account and her folder is there, as is 'Shared' and another folder with my user ID, but with a '1' appended to the end.
What has happened - any help gratefully received...

My 2 cents, most OS X gurus will tell you not to run as an administrator. Keep one or 2 admin users on tap, one for installing/etc. and one as a "control." Run day-to-day ops as a standard user.
This is better security and keeps you from making mistakes without entering a password.
    You can do this by:
1)Backing up! Always do this before making changes to your system.
2)Create 1 or 2 new admin accounts. I would make 2 new admin accounts. Name one "Control" and the other something like "Owner."
3)Log into "Owner" and change your old account to a standard user.
4)I would verify permissions at least twice after you do this to get any bugs out.
5)Restart, log in as your old (now standard) account.
Keep the "Owner" password handy for when you need to install/make changes/etc to your system.
Don't use "Control" except for just that, to see if a problem affects that account as well as other accounts.

  • On Mac OS X Lion rebooted Cisco router and my network has disappeared

I have no internet connection now.  My netwrok disappeared from the list. I did the on and off , reboot modem etc.  I tried to reinstall the Cisco software and a message popped up saying Cisco doesn't support my version of OS X.  The wifi was working fine on Lion for at least a week, then wifi started dropping off on my iPad so that is why I rebooted the router and now it doesn't work at all.

What Cisco software are you running on your Mac?  You should be able to connect to the router's control panel by going to its network address with a browser, although be aware that Safari douesn't handle some of the control panel javascript correctly, so you might want to use Firefox.

  • Wireless Network has "disappeared" after Leopard installation

We have 2 Macs, my MacPro (connected by wire to ADSL) and an iMac (connecting to my wireless router to the same ADSL line). The iMac uses Airport to reach my wireless router, connecting to "Joe's Network." (MacPro --> D-Link Modem --> D-Link Wireless Router --> iMac Airport) This has worked fine for about 2 years.
After installing Leopard yesterday, the iMac does not show "Joe's Network," and I don't know how to restore it. Other networks in the neighborhood show up in the iMac's Airport listing, and the unsecured ones CAN be connected to. This indicates to me that there is nothing wrong with the iMac. I unplugged and replugged the modem and router on my MacPro, but nothing is working.
Can someone point me in the right direction?

Ahh, welcome to the wonderful world of wifi under Leopard. Maybe you weren't aware that tens of thousands of people have been having endless problems with wifi whilst using Leopard .... I just got back from holiday - full signal yet no internet. Connect using ethernet and there it is - working perfectly. The culprit? Apple's very own Airport extreme base station, the new one which I bought thinking my old one was on the blink - nope.
Meanwhile Apple have not said a word about this in the last 8-10 weeks of utter misery for countless people - not a sausage. Many people are counting on 10.5.2 fixing this. I say don't count on it. Remember to complain to Apple as it is their own software/hardware that is at fault here. Meanwhile, they introduce a ... wifi laptop.... ooh the irony.

  • Slide lock on home screen has disappeared

This is about the security feature you have to use each time you start up the Droid X -- i.e., the image of the combination padlock that you drag to the right.  That feature disappeared a while ago (before I upgraded to 2.2) and hasn't come back.  So how do I get it back again?  I've gone through the security settings and can't seem to find that option.  (Note that I am not talking about the password lock or the pattern lock, just the simple slide lock.)

If slider was disabled at time of update the slider remains disabled because there isnt any options to enable it, only solution it to hard reset. Use the instructions here: http://community.vzw.com/t5/DROID-X-by-Motorola/Minimize-Droid-X-Issues-After-Froyo-Update/m-p/296586#M11211  also heres a little reading material that I got from Motorola about this subject... http://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/57221/kw/disable%2Bslide%2Bunlock%2Bon%2Bfroyo/p/30%2C6720%2C7500%2C/session/L3NpZC9uMVE5alJiaw%3D%3D/p_country_code/US/p_reference/moto_integration.php.
Notice the statement under photo states "Screen lock for DROID X Froyo users (SW version 2.3.15) is a permanent feature.
You will not have option to turn "Screen lock" (the simple swipe from left to right when display is dimmed) either OFF or ON your handset."
