Home network not showing up

Hi Everyone
so as the name states my home network just isnt showing up all the time.
Heres my setup
Macbook pro running osx 10.6.2 > wireless g through WPA2 secured connection > router
Vista Home Basic > Wired > Router
XP Pro > Wired > Router
the vista and XP pc's see each other fine and can share inbetween with no problems
all 3 pc's can surf the interwebs
all 3 pc's are in the "WORKGROUP" group for the purpose of windows/SMB networking.
pings work from every box to every other box and vice versa
Problem is I cant see the windows shares on the mac, sometimes i can but then if the mac goes to sleep or i close the mac to go somewhere when i get home i can no longer see the windows shares.
as my mac only has a 250gig HD this is quite annoying as the vista box has all my media and music that i spent many hours adding to my itunes library on the vista box.
if anyone has any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Ok so i got around it kind of ... at least my vista pc is staying connected now .. i had to set up a username/password for shares and it seems to have made some progress
the xp box is still scetchy at best but ive turned off simple file sharing and it seems to have made the shares a bit more accessable

  • Home network not showing up in Finder

My desktop PC is connected to my router by ethernet; MacBook Pro wireless. Due to a printing issue, I need to copy files from MacBook to PC to print. Sometimes, despite being on, PC does not show up under "Shared" in Finder. Is there a way in Snow Leopard of "seeing" which computers are currently attached to the home network?
Note - this is an intermittent problem; probably 2/3 of the time, the PC shows up no problem!

Open Terminal and issue the following command
    ps aux | grep netbios[d]
if you get a line similar to this
    _netbios          45   0,0  0,0  2477156   2456   ??  SNs   9:14am   0:02.44 /usr/sbin/netbiosd
then the daemon is running, otherwise issue the following command to start netbiosd permanently
    sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.netbiosd.plist

Is anyone else having trouble viewing the SEC network via Watch ESPN on a 2nd gen Apple TV?  Software is up to date, but SEC network not showing up as a channel.  Using Xfinity - and it appears on iPhone5 but not on iPad2 - both of which are current on IOS. Help!

the wifi router could also be blocking
and to really test if the windows firewall is the problem then try turning it off!
if that scare you too much then disable the internet modem / cable modem or the likes while you test
always remove more and more factors when troubleshooting sooner or later it will work and you can narrow down which factor did the job and work on that

  • IPod Touch only connects to home network; not Airport, Starbucks, Panera...

Before I start, I've read the FAQs and have looked through a number of topics already posted.
I seem to have the opposite problem everyone else is having. My iPod Touch connects just fine to my home wireless... It connects and I'm able to browse the internet, download apps, etc without fail.
However, when I was at the airport recently (both St. Louis and Dallas/Ft. Worth), my Touch would "connect" to the wireless there, but I couldn't go on the 'net or get new apps, etc. It was behaving as if I wasn't at a location with wireless access. When I returned home, I went to Starbucks, Panera, McDonald's... several places with free, open, easy-to-connect WiFi (and took my laptop to make sure that their wireless was working), and had the same problems as I did at the airport.
Considering the best part of having wireless on the Touch is that you should be able to access it anywhere with WiFi, it seems kind of "useless" to have it only work at home (I have two computers at home; so it's not like I need to use the Touch for internet there).
Any thoughts? Obviously, the whole "check your router settings" / "reset your router" answers are not going to help me, as I have no control over those, nor can I see them at these places. Help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm having the same problem. My iPod Touch connects to my home network and another secure network for which I enter the network name and password. However I am unable to connect to any free WiFi, even when my laptop can access it with no problem. The signal is apparently strong; I can see all the bars on the upper left, but when trying to connect to Safari or the app store it says that there is no connection.

  • "Network" not showing up

I have an iPhone 4 and when I go into settings>general, the Network tab is not showing up. It also says that I have a VPN, but will not show an APN. I downloaded the iPhone Config Utility, but I'm not sure what I need to do once I have that open to fix this problem. Is it even fixable? I just started using StraightTalk today and want to get all this figured out so I can have access to data. Any help would be MUCH appreciated!

There are two laptops already on the network and working.  On the new laptop, when I go to sign on to the network, there is one named "linksys" on it but not "ralphsnetwork".  When I put the wireless code in, I get "wireless code mismatch".  The other two laptops show "ralphsnetwork" as the network  they are connected to.   Should the name of my network show up on the new laptop?  Or is the one showing up named "linksys" actually my network. If it is, my wireless code will not work on it.

    Just a thought.
You did not mention 'Look for shared music'.
    It's in Preferences>Sharing in iTunes.

  • Home network not displayed in AirPort list

My home wireless network suddenly won't show up on my 1st-gen MacBook. It is showing up on other computers, and other networks are showing up on my MacBook - it's only the combination of the two that isn't working.
I have tried basically svery solution I can find on these and other forums, including restarting the Macbook, turning AirPort off and on, rebooting the router, and reinstalling AirPort Update 2007-002. Nothing has worked. I can't run network diagnostics because I can't select the network in the list - it's like the network doesn't exist to the MacBook.
The router is a SMC Barricade-G. I've never had a problem like this before.
MacBook Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Resetting and renaming the router didn't help. I have a feeling that I may just have to get a new one. Any other suggestions would still be appreciated, though.
Also, I can connect to the router through Ethernet.

  • Podcast home page not showing all podcasts

    Hello fellow podcasters!
I've successfully created a podcast, but am now in a bit of a jam. See, the home page of my podcast is now not showing all my podcasts.
    http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=277495620
Now, I'm not sure if the home page only shows the most recent ones (If so, how do they define, "most recent"?) and moreover, if it only shows the most recent ones, how do I change it so it shows ALL of the podcasts created?
Appreciate any help you can provide me.
    Sincerely,
    Dennis Chin

iTunes Store shows the number of podcasts that are listed in the XML file. Some podcast-making programs and online services which create the XML file for you limit the number of episodes in the XML file - usually there is a setting somewhere to adjust this.

  • HT202213 Home Sharing not showing in Windows 7

Hi, trying to set up home sharing. Have followed all the steps in setting it up but icon does not show up in the side bar or drop down menu. Have also gone to file - home sharing - turn on etc ....Any suggestions???

    Howdy Jst Eph Oph,
It sounds like you have done the appropriate troubleshooting from the proper article for the Home Sharing function not appearing in the File menu of iTunes. I would next verify the version number of iTunes that is opening when you launch iTunes.
iTunes: How to find which version you are using
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1208
If it is other than 11.1.3 I would try running software update, or reinstalling iTunes from the download page here:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
I was also thinking if the software is up to date, and you have re installed it but the version number is still not current, I would check the /Applications folder for mutliple copies of iTunes or launch it from there.
I would also check for 3rd party plugins that may be interfering with iTunes functions if the verison number is correct.

  • Why does the security code for my home network not work with my hp6500?

I have a HPOfficejet 6500A Plus and am running windows 7 on a Dell desktop.  I've tried to get my printer to connect to a home network and every time I type in the password it won't connect...it fails the security.   I've always used the direct printer cable to connect one of my desktops to the computer and am trying to get the wireless featur to work...it won't.

    Hi,
Please refer the link below and download HP Print and Scan Dr utility which will be able to help in installing printer and checking for correct security key.

  • Networks not showing up in airport

My airport is on, but no networks are showing up. Just started to happen. Everything was fine until I installed an airport express. The airport express is on and working, but not showing up as a network too.
    Any thoughts out there?
    Thanks!

Same problem here. Although I'm using Leopard from a clean install. It says searching when i first click open the AP menu open, but then it just shows the network I'm on. Though once and awhile the other networks briefly show up too.....

  • Why are my home screens not showing on Itunes

I've upgraded both my Itunes and also my Iphone today.
When I try to view my home screens in Itunes they are not showing.  Instead all I get is a blank screen where the home screen should be.
I have tried resetting my computer to see if this sorted the problem but this has not cured anything.
    Suggestions??

I have exactly the same problem.  I upgraded i tunes and i phone 4s (to IOS7) and now can no longer see my home screens.  I wish I had never upgraded to IOS7,  Hopefully Apple will fix this sooner than later

  • Home Screen Not Showing Some Apps

I reset my home screen to show all apps in alphabetical order. I when to the end and saw some apps were missing. I searched them in spotlight search and they showed up. I have 10 home screens and some 135 apps. Is this happening because I have too many apps? How do I fix this?

Arrange the apps into appropriate folders so you can more easily find them. See:
Syncing and arranging apps from the App Store
It may be easier to arrange them in your iTunes library when the iPod is connected to the computer.

  • WRT300N - My home network not visible on other home machines

I've had a WRT300N in place and problem-free for about two years; always able to have other laptops and notebook in the house view our network and able to connect.  Suddenly, the network no longer shows on the other machines.  The only thing I had done over the course of two or three days was to unplug the power cord from the back of the router (to prevent one of our children from using the wireless to access the internet late at night).  So the most recent time I reconnect the power cord, local network no longer visible on the other machines.  I have done a new set-up and a factory reset, and to no avail can I see the network on our other machines at home.  When I run a hard cable from the router to the back of my laptop, I can gain internet access that way.  I am puzzled why I can't see the wireless network any longer. The location of the router has not changed one inch, nor is there anything new posing interference.  And as far as I can tell, the settings are all proper.  I am not an expert when it comes to computer set-ups, but I was able to set-up the router and wireless on the first try two years ago; but now I have a problem.  I would be grateful if anyone has any suggestions.  Thank you.

Follow the below mentioned settings and check.
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
    - Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbors network...
    - Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select TKIP...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone and remember the key.
NOTE : Passphrase should be more that 8 characters...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...
