Home Network Woes With New E2500

I replaced an EA1000 Wi-Fi router with a E2500, and my internet is faster, so that is a good thing. What's not-so-good is that my computers don't see each other on the network like they did before. I have 2 laptops running Windows 7 and a tablet running Windows 8.1. My main Win7 laptop does not see either of the other 2 PCs; The 2nd Win7 laptop may or may not see the other 2; and my Win8 tablet sees only the main Win7 laptop. I've gone through everything in all 3 PCs as far as Network and Sharing Center Settings. I've tried different security settings in the router setup. I would really like all 3 PCs to see each other like they did on the old router. Any suggestions on where to look, and what to look for?

Guest network is off. Both PCs that are here (1 is on a road trip) are connected to the 5 GHz band.
Both are set for Automatic IP Address.
To add to the mystery, my Dell tablet sees itself AND my Dell latop on the network, and can access files on the laptop, while the laptop itself does not even recognize itself as being on the network, i.e. when I click on network in Windows Explorer, nothing shows up. I would immediately suspect the Dell laptop as being the issue, since it doesn't even see itself on the network, except for that little fact that I can put the old router back online and each computer will see the others and they play happily together. This wackiness only happens on the new router.
Any other ideas? (and I do appreciate your help!)

  • Home networking problem with new WRH54G

I just bought a new WRH54G to replace my old BEFW11S4v2 which was experiencing drop outs.  I have a simple network with two PCs wired to the router sharing a cable modem Internet connection.  The PCs are both running XP.  With the new router the PCs can each access the Internet but don't seem to be able to see each other on the LAN.  I stick in the old router and the PCs see each other and share files.  I put in the new router and I get a message saying I don't have sufficient permissions to access other PCs.  I swap the routers - works fine with the old, doesn't work with the new.  I have run the XP Home Networking Wizard repeatedly but the results don't change.  Have I missed a configuration parameter on the new router?  I tried Online Chat but the guy had me run the Wizard again and then he disappeared.

Thanks for the suggestion - that's what the Online Chat person suggested last night.  Remember, I described that everything works fine with my old router (BEFW11S4) (except for the continual disconnects).  File and printer sharing is turned on and configured correctly on the PCs.  It's only when I replace the old router with the new router (WRH54G) that the two PCs can no longer see each other.  Linksys experts keep telling me to turn on file sharing - but it's been on and working for years.  There's something about replacing the old router with the new router.
Anyway, I've located the problem in general terms.  I recently installed Norton 360 on both computers.  Norton 360 contains a firewall.  When I turn off this firewall everything works.  It's my problem and not Linksys'.  I had checked the Microsoft firewall but didn't realize that Norton 360 also had a firewall.  I don't know why the old router works - I've got to check on that.  Maybe this experience will help somebody else.

  • Cannot get a home network functioning with new bth...

As a relatively new BT infinity customer I simply cannot get a home network up and running...
I have one PC which is hard-wired into the router and two laptops, all running windows 7.  I have discovered from this forum that BThomehubs don't like Windows own homegroup utility so I need to ensure that all devices are on the same workgroup.  OK, done.
Every sharing option is checked and even my printer properties are slected to share all.  The printer is wired via USB into the main PC.  I can 'see' my laptops from the PC and vice versa through windoes explorer but can only access the laptops from the PC, not the other way around which is a pain for transferring files (one of the key reasons for haveing the network in the first place!)
My printer is an Epson all in one PX650 which worked quite happily when I was a Sky Boradband customer from all devices.  Now I can't even see it or seemingly add it to the network... in fact I'm not even sure I have a network in the truest sense.  This is too hard BT when your competitors made it so simple.
Any thoughts will be much appreciated...

but I cannot get a home page on the iPad.
Not sure what you mean by that. If you mean set a Starting page for Safari, then you can't. Safari will open up on the last page you browsed. If you close all tabs before exiting, it will jsut open to the gray screen. From there you can search using the google search at the top left of the address bar, or simply enter an address in the address bar.

I also cannot get my serial number to contact support.
This can be easily obtained by flipping the iPad over and looking at the fine text at the bottom of the backside.
The Serial number is printed there.
Alternatively going into Settings->Geneal->About will have the serial number in the list of things about the iPad.
If you are finding it difficult to navigate around the iPad, perhaps setting up an appointment at the Genius Bar of your local Apple Store may be usefull. As they have Usage classes you can take.

  • Can't connect to my home wi-fi with new Iphone 5?

can't connect to my home wi-fi with new Iphone 5

When you say it doesn't detect the network - is that under "Settings->Wi-Fi"? It doesn't show your network at all?
This may sound like a stupid question but since I've learned never to leave any stone unturned - you don't have your SSID set to "hidden" do you?

  • Speed loss with new E2500

I had to change from a WRT300N wireless router which died to a new E2500.  I noticed that the speed my computers report that they are connected to the wireless network connection is now 144.5 mps, versus 270 mps with the WRT300N.  There is no change in location of the devices or computers.  The computers use a WUSB300N adapter.  Any suggestiosn on why this is happening?  Is there a setting or setup that needs to be changed?
    Thanks.

The chanel width in the router's wireless tab has to be set to auto 20/40. This means that if the interference is low enough, it will utilize the 40mhz mode to give you a maximum rate of 300mbps. If not, then it will stay at 144mbps.
I don't work for Cisco. I'm just here to help.

  • Question on how networking works with new Macbook Pro

    Hi,
I have a question about how networking works with my new Macbook Pro. This is my first laptop so am new to mobile computing. I am about to configure it to replace my desktop which uses a wired DSL connection. Once I have my Macbook Pro configured to run off the DSL modem, what happens when I take this computer to a location that has ethernet? Will just plugging in the ethernet cable be enough to get on line? Or is there further configuration work that needs to be done?
I used a Windows laptop from work and all I had to do was plug it in to a hotel ethernet cable to get on line. However, this laptop was never configured to run on my DSL network so I am not certain if that makes things more complicated.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi
Your MacBook Pro should just work when plugged into an ethernet connection.
Just check something, Open Network Preferences, you can select it from the Airport icon in the menu bar.
In the left-hand pane click on Ethernet and just check that it is set to configure using DHCP in the right-hand pane, that's it.
So when you plug in the ethernet cable it will ask the router for an IP address and off you go.
I assume that any system you plug into will use DHCP rather than static IP addresses. If it is a static IP address, you will need to manually configure the ethernet settings by inputting the IP address and subnet mask info plus DNS servers.
Usually it is done with DHCP and you don't have to do a thing and likewise your home DSL is DHCP?
If not then you will have to change your settings, make a 'Hotel' setting which you can use when in hotels and keep your 'Home' set-up for when you are at home. In the pull down menu select Edit Locations to add new ones.

  • Older airport extreme base station as a network extender with new time capsule

I just bought a new time capsule (802.11ac). Can my older airport extreme base station (model A1143) be used as a network extender with it?

    Yes, although it maybe disappointing..
There are two kinds of extending.. wireless repeater type which is poorest as it has to transfer all packets in two steps instead of one.. hence will halve the speed.
Or using ethernet to the old extreme and set it in bridge.. You can then setup roaming network... this is much better.. but getting ethernet to the right place could be messy or expensive or both.

wireless extend doco.. mind all of this is out of date.. the basics are correct.. the methods via the airport utility may be obsolete.

    Documentation has rather lagged lately.

  • Setting up a home network using the new USB551L modem

I have recently switched from the 3G USB760 modem to the new 4G LTE USB511L modem. Since I live in a very rural area, it is one of the few internet options that I have and I am forced to use it for my home. I previously set up a wireless network using the previous modem by connecting a wireless router to my computer by ethernet cord. I then went under the properties of the connection in order to allow other computers/devices to use the connection. Since switching to the new USB modem, the network does not appear under the list of options when using the Windows 7 network connections icon in the lower right corner of the screen. I am trying to set up a similar wireless network for my house but I am having difficulty. It seems that everything will connect to the wireless router but the router is lacking internet connection. Any advice is appreciated.

Your best Option use th eUSB551L in a Hybrid Router:
The MBR95 will work for your situation plus it has 4 etherent ports if you need it, you can connect your network/wireless printers, android, ipad, ps3, xbox, nintendo wii, DVR, satellite, etc....

Combine it with a Full Band 3G/4G Hybrid Antenna and you got the best of all worlds

  • Networking issue with new Macbook - cannot get IP address from DHCP router

Hello all, I've seen this problem posted a few times and been having the same problem with my new aluminum MacBook. Here's the story:
When connecting to my network at home, I get the message "Airport has a self-assigned IP and may not be able to connect to the internet." I've been able to connect a few times, but anytime it sleeps or I shut down I have the same problem. When I'm out and about, it has no problem connecting to other networks.
On the network in which I cannot connect, there are 2 other macs and two PCs that do NOT have any problem connecting. Macs are all running 10.5.5.
Router in a 2Wire and uses DHCP. ISP is AT&T.
I've tried rebooting the router, manually assigned an IP address, restarting, updating software. Nothing seems to work.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? This is kinda making me crazy.

    I've also tried:
    1) Creating a new location in network prefs.
    2) Zapping PRAM
    3) rebooting router many time.
    4) putting a $ in front of the hex password
    5) deleting all of the plists that I've seen recommended.
    6) Starting in safe mode
    7) Renewing IP
    8) Shutting off firewall

  • ASA5505 Network Configuration with new controlled WLAN

Do sho Version on the ASA it will tell you the inside hosts limit.
To upgrade to unlimited hosts is not very expensive.
    https://www.cdw.com/shop/products/Cisco-ASA-5505-Software-license/1650156.aspx
However, It doesn't really support multiple ISPs in load balancing. You would need a security plus license for active/standby failover.

Hi!You guys are my last hope before we would have to spend some serious money on IT-consulting...We are a medium-sized electronics store placed in Sweden. Our network-setup has been an ASA5505, a 16-port swich, and a NetGear home wirless router. This setup has been far from perfect, but has worked okay.Due to the fact that pretty much every electronic gadget needs a wireless network to work, the number of clients has gone through the roof. We have 5 workstations, 3 printers, and then 6 network speakers, 20 phones, 10 computers needing network for demos. This issue was intended to be solved by investing some money into a EnGenius Neutron controlled wifi. So a FP5912 and two EWS320 AP:s was bought. The wifi is superb, but it had some issues with DHCP when we disconnected the old NetGear router... It turnes out that when we disconnect the...

  • TS1398 network problem with new upgrate

I never had any problems with my I Phone 4s until I upgraded to the new IOS6.   I want to go into my banking accounts like I always did but it constantly says " Safari cannot open the page because it could not establish a secure connection to the server”  How do I fix this problem?

Which do I check in the sharing? I tried some and it doesn't seem to work (this is on the leopard). What I am trying to do is take my iTunes file from the PC and share it so I can reload the music on the new mac.

  • VPN Woes with new AP unit

I bought a new Airport Extreme, hooked it up and was enjoying everything that was flawlessly running... Then we tried our vpns.
I ended up calling support to find out what I was doing wrong, and it tunes out that my purchase was the issue!
We have two types of vpns here, cisco and Nortel. The recomendation was to negate our NAT and place everything out in the DMZ. After I finished laughing, I regretably took my unit back.
Is there ANYONE that has a logical fix for this or recomendation... comments? I can see from oher posts that we are not alone here as far as getting propper vpn pass through on the new access point.
We really liked the unit, but can not live without our vpn connections...

  • Problem with "Home Network" in hub manager

    Hi everyone,
I had a bit of an issue with my homehub this week where some prolonged decorating caused the hub to be unplugged for most of the day. When the hub was plugged in again it appeared to have performed a factory reset. Now over the past day or two it has had the odd issue that I've needed to sort. My main issue is that currently the "Home Network" option with the Home Hub manager will cause the router to reset and drop connection, however it is only this page. Also the router isn't responding to requests to bthomehub.home and I have to use the IP. I've done a factory reset through the hub manager and set up all my previous settings as were previously, but the lack of access to the "Home Network" page is still a problem and is getting to be frustrating because I have a chromecast unable to connect without being able to turn off smart setup.
Details of my home hub below, any input would be lovely.
BT Home Hub 5 (Type A) | Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.173.1.6

have you tried a factory reset but using the recessed button on back and holding for 20/30 secs until the lights flash?

  • Making use of local DNS for home network

I have an Apple Base Station and I wish to set up better local services on my home network, starting with local DNS. I see that the ABS will attempt to apply the <name>.local handle for devices but this seems inconsistent. What defines whether a host/file-server/printer/etc... will get a name and how is is defined? For windows machines, do I need Bonjour installed for this to work or will it take info from WINS or NETBIOS? For machines with DHCP addresses is there a way to set up some sort of dynamic DNS or bind a name to the devices MAC address?

Hi and welcome to the forum.
The actual Home highway box (with the telephone sockets and blue cat 5 sockets on the front) I would suggest you just throw in the bin.
You would also have had a special front plate installed that plugs into the BT owned NTE5.
Not sure what you had in mind, do you want to have a new line provided or shift your existing line over to the old socket?
