Home Office to Office iMac and Printer Woes

I have a 24" iMac that I use at my home office and then transport (using the iLugger) to another office. I am bought two Canon MP510 printers so I wouldn't have to lug a printer back and forth.
When I connect the printer to the iMac it will not respond. I have to reload the driver and everything works fine. When I get back to my home office and connect the cable the same thing happens - I have to reinstall the driver. I can't figure what is going on.
Thanks and Happy new Year!
Frank

I could imagine this happening with the Ethernet models, as the printer connection for network printing is based on the printers Ethernet (MAC) address. But for direct USB connections, I don't see why you would have to go through this process every time.
For the record, I don't have the same model of PIXMA at home and at work, so I've never had to work with this scenario. However I don't believe you should have to reinstall the queue every time.
The only thing I can suggest is that when you connect the printer USB cable to the iMac, make sure that the printer is turned off (this may require unplugging the power cord).

I suspect you had the same issue I did and downloaded the 64-bit version of the OpenSC libraries, but your firefox is 32-bit. You can see the opensc-pkcs11.dll in the System32 folder via windows explorer, but when you browse that directory via firefox to add the module, you are acutally being redirected to the SysWOW64 directory. Try intstalling the 32-bit OpenSC libraries, and adding the appropriate library from the C:\Windows\SysWOW64 directory.

  • Installed Maverick on new IMac and printer will not print

I purchased a new IMac in December after always having PCs so there has been a learning curve for me.  A few days ago I installed the Maverick update.  So far, so good except my printer no longer will print.  I have a new Canon MC7120 printer/scanner.  I am still able to scan, but not print.  When trying to print, I have received a popup telling me to install software.
Would you be able to walk me through what I am suppose to do?  I am assuming I am to install software again that I installed when I purchased the printer.  Being new to Macs, I don't want to do something I shouldn't.  Your help would be appreciated.  Thank you

The printer is not listed as supported on this page:

  • I have two computers. One is a home office type and I take my lap top with me on the road with work. How do I copy my items from my I-pod to my laptop?

I have I-tunes downloaded on both computeonrs but only have my Information stored on my home computer as it is much faster to download information to when adding items to my I-pod.  I am not sharing this information with anybody but using it myself.

    Sync iPod/iPad/iPhone with two computers
Although it isn't possible to sync an Apple device with two different libraries it is possible to sync with the same logical library from multiple computers. Each library has an internal ID and when iTunes connects to your iPod/iPad/iPhone it compares the local ID with the one the device normally syncs with. If they are the same you can go ahead and sync...
I have my library cloned to a small 1Tb USB drive which I can take between home & work. At either location I use SyncToy 2.1 to update the local copy with the external drive. Mac users should be able to find similar tools. I can open either of the local libraries or the one on the external drive and update the media content of my iPhone. The slight exception is Photos which normally connects to a specific folder on a specific machine, although that can easily be remapped to the current library if you create a "Photos" folder inside the iTunes Media folder so that syncing the iTunes folders keeps this up to date as well. I periodically sweep my library for new files & orphans with iTunes Folder Watch just in case I make changes at one location but then overwrite the library with a newer copy from the other. Again Mac users should be able to find similar tools.
As long as your media is organised within an iTunes Music or Tunes Media folder, in turn held inside the main iTunes folder that has your library files (whether or not you let iTunes keep the media folder organised) each library can access items at the same relative path from the library folder so the library can be at different drives/paths on different machines. This solution ensures I always have adequate backups of my library and I can update my devices whenever I can connect to the same build of iTunes.
When working with an iPhone earlier builds of iTunes would remove any file not physically present in the local library, even if there was an entry for it, making manual management practically redundant on the iPhone. This behaviour has been changed but it will still only permit manual management with a library that has the correct internal ID. If you don't want to sync your library between machines on a regular basis just copy the iTunes Library.itl file from the current "home" machine to any other you want to use, then clean out the library entires and import the local content you have on that box.
On the offchance that you've split out the media folder from its normal location inside the iTunes folder see make a split library portable.

  • How to set up a home network between an iMac and Apple TV

I have an iMac running Snow Leopard connected by Ethernet cable to the internet via a wireless-capable modem running at 5mbps.
I want to network it to an Apple TV connected to my HDTV by an HDMI cable so I can run Netflix.  The TV is on the first floor at the back of the house.  The modem is on the third floor at the front of the house.  I estimate the distance between them to be about 65ft.  The set-up is such that it would be difficult to bring the two closer together.
Could you please advise me the best way to set this up?  My concern is the distance from the modem to the Apple TV.  Would Airport Express used as an extender be needed and/or enough to link the two (this could be positioned approximately half-way)?  Or is there some other way to achieve the desired hook-up?
I'm elderly and digitally challenged, so will need rather explicit step-by-step help !!!
    Many thanks.

I have an iMac running Snow Leopard connected by Ethernet cable to the internet via a wireless-capable modem running at 5mbps.
What is the make & model of this wireless-capable modem? If it is not an Apple product, then extending it with an AirPort Express (at least not by wireless) will not work.
Assuming that it is not an Apple product, then the only other choice would be to connect the Apple TV by Ethernet. However, I can certainly understand if Ethernet is not desireable or practical ... so an alternative to that would be to use Powerline adapters. These adapters take advantage of your home's electrical circuit to create a pseudo Ethernet one. You would then need at least two of these adapters to be placed at the locations of the wireless modem and the Apple TV. Each adapter would be connected to an electrical wall outlet and a short Ethernet cable would run between the adapter and the device (modem & Apple TV) to complete the circuit.

  • New iMac and Printer - lost scan function

I got a new iMac but kept my old printer; a HP. Apple did all the transfer from the old mac to the new, including the printer. The printer is fine for printing documents, but it will not scan. A photo image program used to open automatically; now it does not and I do not find that icon in my app file which it used to be.
Should I reinstall my printer to this new Mac, or is there some reason why it is not compatible with it? Apple said they would not reinstall anything that wasn't compatible so maybe that's why the HP scan is missing. Will it hurt anything if I uninstall what's here now and reinstall or am I just not able to scan anymore?
In other words, do I have to get a new printer? There does not seems to be any updates or drivers available for my printer on the HP website so I'm thinking this printer just doesn't do its full job with this new computer.
    What do you suggest?

I suggest calling/e-mailing HP. Chances are pretty good there's a driver for your printer unless it's really old. My printer is about 1 1/2 years old and HP has a driver for it. However, the default driver installed with Leopard does not include scan functionality, so you may have to upgrade. Probably the tech who copied your files figured that the default driver was good enough and didn't bother to copy the old one but didn't think of/know about this issue.

You are still under warranty w/HP.  Suggest that you call their tech support department.  Ask them, when they will supply drivers that will work w/Maverick.

  • Airport Express and connection/detection with IMAC and Printer

After switching to  Airport express, I now need to serch for my wifi connection vice my imac detecting it.  Also, I am unbale to set up(detect) my wireless printer (HP Photosmart C4580). Any thoughts?  Thanks!!

This combination SHOULD work but it often does not.  I have replaced several base routers from non-Airport to Airport and resolved issues like this - USB printers, AirPlay issues, etc.  Its the only way I know how to make it work, sorry.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • IMac and USB woes

    I have a 2GHz Intel Core Duo iMac 20-inch.
I seem to have problems with USB connections, specifically...
When I plug in my 80 Gig video iPod, the iPod says DO NOT DISCONNECT, but is not recognized on the iMac. I shut down, but the iPod still says DISCONNECT. I disconnect any way, reset the iPod, reboot, and then the iPod is recognized and everything works as usual.
I have a Belkin USB hub, and when I plug it in I experience kernel panics. Also, not everything plugged into the hub is always recognized. I will be trying a different hub, although have used this one without any problems on my older G4 iMac. No kernel panics as long as I don't use the hub (which I really need).
    Any advice?

Try booting from the #1 disk that came with your computer, by inserting the disk, restarting computer and holding down C key until you get the Apple and spinning gear, then release. Go through a few screens until you see Apple at top left, go to Utilities and run disk utility, to see if there are any errors on your computer. If so and it doesnt fix them, run this program again (maybe twice). It should fix it. If not, consider an erase and install.

  • Im having trouble home sharing between my imac and iphone4,both seem to be turned on but home sharing not showing up on itunes side menu`?

    Can anybody help please?

Hopefully, one of these two suggestions will get it back.
Either quit iTunes and launch it again or restart the entire computer. It's amazing how many times a simple restart can solve a problem. Hopefully it does for you.

  • Home sharing iMac and MacBook Pro: not all songs are playable

    Hello
I set up Home Sharing between my iMac and MacBook Pro so that I could stream the music that's on the iMac to the MacBook Pro. On the MBP there are no songs, all of them are in Apple Lossless format on my iMac. I first tried to use "‘share my library on my local network" but because I wanted the play count to go up as well I chose for "Home Sharing". Setting up was simple. After all preferences were adjusted, I opened iTunes on the MBP and it immediately found the shared iMac library. There's now only one problem: not all songs are playable. Some don't even start. How is this possible and what do I need to do to resolve this?
FYI: the iMac is connected via ethernet to my cable modem which sends a wireless Wi-Fi signal to the MBP. Signal quality is excellent.
Also, is it possible that playcount is only available with Home Sharing and not with "share my library on my local network"?
    Thanks!

It very well could be the antivirus app, most are intrusive and debilitate rather than enhance performance and should be removed using the developers instructions. You haven't really told us anything useful such as any settting you may have changed. However if you began working backwards resetting any changes and uninstalling the apps added since the performance issue started then you probably will find your issue.

  • Home Share between Windows 7 and iMac

    Hi,
    I have a iMac and Windows7 laptop.
My home share is not working between the two systems.
    Bonjour service is running properly.
Each time I try to add HomeShare, the icon appears and when I click on "Done", the icon on iTunes disappears.
    Please help.
I assume there should be some blocking from Windows side
Inbound rules in Windows Firewall is showing 4 Bonjour services. iTunes is set to communicate through Firewall.
Is there anything that I'm missing? I had same problem with my old Windows laptop also.
I tried home sharing using my iMac and my friend's MacBook pro, and it is working good.
    Please suggest.
    Thanks,
    Srujan.

I assume you would like to do this wirelessly? You mean you are trying to create a network between the two computers that connects to the internet? If so:
1.) Plug the Ethernet (generally yellow) cable into your Mac.
2.) At the top of your Mac's screen is something called the menu bar. There should be something that looks like a wireless signal icon. Click that.
3.) Select "Create network" and enter the name you want the network to have.
4.) Go into System Preferences, then into Sharing, then click on internet sharing.
5.) Under 'share your connection from' (it is a drop-down menu) select Ethernet.
6.) Check the box next to 'AirPort' in the box labeled with 'to computers using:'
7.)  Then click the check-box next to 'Internet Sharing' (if you do this before, you will not be able to change the settings until you have it disabled, aka no checked)
8.) On your PC, connect to your Mac's network, putting in the password if you set one.

  • HT4557 Sharing music between home iMac and iPad

    Hi,
i have turned on Home Sharing on my iMac and iPad but I cannot see the More option leading to the Shared option in my iTunes.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks

First of all - The More button is in the Music App at the bottom of the screen - not in iTunes.
Launch iTunes on the Mac and go to iTunes>Preferences>Sharing. Do you have Share Library on Local Network selected?
In the iPad settings go to Music>Apple ID. Are you signed in?

  • Wireless printing with my iMac and iPad...

I have a lexmark X4530 printer that I would like to set up for wireless printing from my iMac and iPad (mostly the iPad). I don't have the disk that came with my printer. I currently have the printer wired to my iMac and it is working fine. I tried to print from my iPad, it found the printer but says there is a connection error. I'm not sure what order to connect all this in. Do I set up printer wirelessly to my iMac first or can I just leave printer plugged into iMac and print from iPad wirelessly? Also I tried to use the wireless setup assistant that installed on the iMac when I first plugged in the printer, but it tells me (after entering in all necessary information) that there is a connection error. Please help!!
