Home Screen Lay Out Options Zen Vs. Today

When changing the options on your home screen I know that you can move the icons with the Zen mode. When you put the Today mode on (which I really like) is there a way to change or re-arrange those? I have looked but can not find where in the phone. Any help would be great.
Thanks Ed
I am glad there is an edit button, I forgot to add that I am using a Blackberry 8530 Curve from U.S. Cellular.

Are you speaking of changing or rearranging the Today items listing, like Messages, Calendar, etc.?
I don't know of a way to do that.
You might find a third party theme you like better.

  • How can I show my appointments directly on my home screen without changing the layout to "today" and keeping it at "zen"?

I would really like to keep my home screen with all of my applications lined up at the bottom but I would also like my current appointments (my appointments for the day from my calendar) to shop up as well. Is there a way this can happen?
If the only option is switching themes from "zen" to "today" is there a way I can choose what is listed on the "today" one, for example instead of call log have bbm.
Ideally, I would like to keep the home screen the way it is now with the calendar addition.
    Thank you,
    Margot

    Hi
    Which model do you have?
Which OS? Go to Options > About, it looks like v5.0.0.681
Are you using the calender that came pre-loaded?
With the basic theme, you get the 6 choices only at the bottom of the screen. It sounds to me as if you you need some sort of calender them that would permit more icons. Have a look on App World

  • Home Screen Clutter - Minimalist option?

I just got a playbook and naturally I sink right into new devices and begin personalizing it, analyzing what's needed and what's not and downsizing.
I've been at it for about a day and can't figure out how to remove more icons from the home screen.
Things like: Youtube Videos, Clock, Calculator, Voice Notes, Podcasts, Bing Maps, Adobe Reader, are things that I'd like to remove but do not offer a delete option (or even a hide option). I do know about pressing and holding down to activate deleting apps and things like that, but I cannot figure out why some of these pointless items cannot be removed or even hidden.
I like having as little stuff going on as possible, and currently everything is shuffled over to one side of the home screen. Does anyone know if there's a way to hide icons that you just know you will NEVER be using?
    Thanks!

Actually. I have bugged it out and created an error message: array_insert invalid array index.
While successfully being able to remove them, it's apparent how I did it created some kind of problem.
It's MUCH cleaner though, and I'm very happy to have removed the items. Now I can being creating a set of folders on one home screen to clean it up. Everything is now on one screen and only what I want is being displayed. After a reset and power-off there is no sign of the useless icons re-appearing, so I'm happy about that.

  • Why is the home screen laid out the way it is?

Why is the home screen (ios 7  on iPhone 5 shown)  laid out the way it is? Given Apple's attention to detail, there has to be a reason.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand your question. What part of how it is set up seems to be the problem, the arrangement of the icons, colors, etc.? You do know that you can arrange the screen in any way that you want, moving icons around, moving them to other pages, etc.

  • Nokia N97 empty home screen freezes out of nothing

Last week my Nokia N97 type RM-505 was delivered, and I had to hard reset it three times since then. I have updated the firmware to V 11.0.021. The problem is as follows:
The home screen freezes totally out of the blue. All the widgets are on screen, but empty, including the selected profile and date next to the clock. The only thing that works is the clock itself. The contacts shortcut has disappeared as well.
By using the menu button I can still perform most tasks on the phone, the phone is much slower however and the battery runs out faster. Reinstalling the firmware or going back to factory settings have no effect at all. The phone has been in this state for up to six hours, either on or off (with the battery taken out).
The problems seems to occur at random, once when I turned it on in the morning, once when using it and twice while not using it but when the phone was turned on. I used a hard reset (*#7370#) the first two times and the third time after I used the *#7780# reset.
I was thinking of returning the phone, but the last time it returned to normal after typing in *#0000#. I couldn't make out however if this was the cause for the phone going back to normal or that it was just a coincidence.
At this moment my phone functions normally, but I am quite worried that it will freeze up again and I have to perform a hard reset again. I have read on a Dutch forum that somebody had exactly the same problem, so if there are more people here please report, hopefully with a permanent solution.

    Hi...
I was having the exact same problem with an N97 I bought 5 days ago. It randomly froze and all I could see was the clock working. But an added problem I had was that my screen and keys were both locked so I couldn't even perform a hard reset. So basically my phone was frozen, all my widgets were blank and all the keys were locked. The screen unlock key wouldn't work either and opening the slider wouldn't unlock the keypad either. My phone doesn't have a warranty either so I was on the verge of being royally scr**ed.
Luckily after searching around for a few hours, I found these steps to get the keypad unlocked long enough to perform a hard reset:
    1. Take out the battery and reinsert after 1 minute.
    2. Connect the phone to a computer and let charging begin.
    3. Turn on the phone with the slider open.
    4. This is important: Do NOT let the screen lock. Press buttons, the keypad button on screen, anything.
    5. Hopefully once a few buttons are pressed the numeric keypad on screen should come up.
    6. Use *#7370# and default code 12345 to perform hard reset (or soft, depending on your choice)
    7. Phone is back in working condition.
However once I had performed all these steps and reinstalled my widgets and stuff, I woke up this morning to find my phone stuck again with the keypad locked. After reading this post I connected my phone to the computer to unlock the keypad and removed the email widget. After restarting my phone it seems to be working just fine. Hasn't gotten stuck or anything for a few hours now. Hopefully the problem won't resurface and I will be able to update to the new firmware and have this issue resolved once and for all. Will post updates if the problem happens again.
    Thanks for all the info!

Start the smartphone in Safe Mode - for instructions, see KB17877.
On the smartphone Home screen, go to Options > Applications (depending on theme, it may be Settings > Options > Applications).
Select the theme you think is hanging the device, press the Menu key, and select Delete.
Pull the battery to reset the smartphone and allow it to boot up.

  • Send to home screen doesn't work

I used to be able to pull up a web page in Safari, then press the arrow and it would give me: "send to home screen" as an option.  Now all I get is "add bookmark, add to reading list, mail link, tweet or print"....
    Any ideas?
using new OS5 and all updates in place.

I spent a lot of time on the phone with a very helpful Apple Tech who helped me solve this problem which was identical to yours. We tried a hard reset which failed to resolve the problem and also tried resetting the Network settings which did not work either. Finally, we deleted my Mail account and reinstalled it and, following that, I could forward with no problem and no crashes. I was told that most Mail problems can be solved by doing this.

  • I want my home screen to be app-free. Possible?

I realize that in many ways I'm not exactly normal and maybe I should seek professional help. And that might be why I prefer to have my home screen devoid of apps. An empty home screen has worked great for me until IOS 5. Now, if I sync or power-cycle my iPhone, the blank home screen is gone and the next screen has become my new home screen. Is there a way to keep the home screen empty as shown below? Does anybody else care?

PapaPom, thank you for the affirmation. Like you, I want to think this isn't an unreasonable request. In the interim, I have reluctantly acquiesced to leaving a single icon on my home screen (as you suggest) until Apple is willing to accommodate those of us who prefer a totally blank home screen.
And Apple, if you’re actually listening, I might suggest that you really wouldn’t need to radically redesign the algorithm that removes all blank screens. For example, you could simply add a ‘Blank Home Screen Default’ toggle option to Wallpaper settings. It’s not that complicated and would demonstrate your sensitivity to those of us who don’t fit into a traditionally well-defined box. It’s just a thought anyway.

  • My Webapps won't appear on the home screen

I bookmark the webapp, but on the directions that Apple gives you says click: "Add to home Screen." That option is not given to me! The only option I'm allowed to do is bookmark it. Help!

you have to buy the app pack to have that option

  • Asha 230: Shortcut for a contact on home screen.

    Hi All,
I recently got this phone for my mother.
The phone is really good for its price but unfortunately it seems there is a no way I can add a directly dial shortcut on the home screen or an option to add contacts in "fastlane".
I found this option pretty useful on android phone especially for old people still trying to get acquainted with touch technology.
It would be really nice to have such an option to add direct dial contact either in "fastlane" or home screen.
If anybody is aware about such an option please do let me know or if there is an option to pass on this suggestion across to Nokia-Asha, please do let me know that too,
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    Satg

Go to Apps > Widgets, then slide over until you find the Contact widget.  Press and hold, then place where you want it on your home screen, then let go.  You'll then be taken to your contacts ... choose the one you want.  You should now have that contact has a direct-dial on your home screen.

  • Out of the blue, my AppleTV went to a screen that had two icons, Computers and Settings. Why won't it go the the usual TV screen with viewing options? Help!

Out of the blue, my AppleTV went to a screen that had two icons, Computers and Settings. Why won't it go the the usual TV screen with viewing options? Help!

Here's what finally worked for me with Apple TV 3rd generation. Out of the box, when setup with wi-fi, it breezed through without any issue. As soon as I powered down and connected it to another tv (same wi-fi network), it got stuck at setting date/time. The remote would help in getting out of it, but the home would only have "Computers" and "Settings" and pretty much useless except for AirPlay. Here's what I did to resolve this:
    1. On your main router, temporarily disable the firewall or set it to the lowest setting allowable (a reboot of the router maybe required).
    2. Restart apple tv via the "restart" option in the "General" option in the main settings menu.
    3. It should breeze through and not show the "Setting date/time" screen.
    4. Once it loads up properly, turn on your fire wall as before  (a reboot of the router maybe required).
I think it worked for me out of the box, but auto-update to the latest software introduced this bug. So, everytime apple tv tries to synch with the time server, this issue will come back. To disable this, I turned off the "auto time synch" option in Settings -> General.
I am fairly confident that I'd be able to use steps 1 through 4 anytime this recurs. Possible scenarios causing recurrence of this issue:
    1. Unplugging the power to apple tv or power failures.
    2. OS updates.
    3. Restoring apple tv using "Restore" or via micro-usb and iTunes to the lastest OS.
Hope this helps. Please post if this works for you.

  • Widget option does not appear when trying to add Firefox home screen widget

E mail suggested the method of holding empty space on home screen, then select "widgets" and add Firefox widget. Unfortunately my nexus 7 only offers wallpapers, android messenger and 1 other. Please advise, thanks Allan

    Thanks for trying to help.
On the main computer, per "Part 3: Connect your other computer to your Sync account", there remains no indication of being signed in, no Manage Account button and no Add a Device link when I click on the Sync icon in Options (accessed like this: Firefox menu, Options menu, Options menu item, Sync tab).
The account has, however, been set up and I can sign into it to manage it at https://services.mozilla.com/ and after following the procedure at the "I don't have the device with me" link my iPod Touch and laptop both reported that Firefox Sync had been successfully set up. However, experimenting to see if it is working, adding a new bookmark on the desktop PC does not result in it being replicated in Firefox Home on the iPod Touch after tapping Settings, Refresh (although I am shown as signed in on the iPod Touch).
Am I missing out some step regarding having the account "active" on the desktop PC?

I am locked out of my home screen. I set a four digit PIN when I purchased three months ago. Now nothing seems to work. powers up, goes to welcome screen, I enter PIN and nothing. How can I bypass and reset PIN?

Hello cardoc14, If you cannot log into your windows account, you may need to reset Windows back to factory and start over.To do this:Rapidly tap the F11 key at start up or press and hold the F11 key and press the power button.Choose Troubleshoot from the Boot Options menu.Choose the Recovery Manager and follow the instructions. You will lose any saved files and installed programs when you reset the laptop.
