Home screen notification question

I have an icon that say "1" with a circle and arrow through it on my home screen in the top right that just appeared one day. I have no idea what this means. Anyone know?

You can use the social application widget built into the phone , or try the Socially app which gives homescreen notification and social contacts intergration with contacts.

Home screen notifications gone after unlock

Once I unlock my phone the notifications that were on the locked home screen disappear. Sometimes there are to many to remember what was there on the locked screen. Is there any place, such as a log where I can review them?

On Home screen, swipe from the top down to reveal the Notification Centre.

External Screen Notifications Question

Hey,
I've had my flip for 2 days now and its great. I've read online and seen many videos that says you can READ MESSAGES/EMAILS on the external screen.
I've tried using the volume rockers, but this doesn't work.
How do I view my messages on the external screen, without flipping open the phone?

When you hit the down volume button, an icon of your email envelope, (rectangle), or your text msg envelope, (parallelogram), will appear. When this happens, just wait a few moments and it will morph into the text of the message all by itself.

Home screen notification shows extra unread e-mail...

For the second time, found that the homescreen is displaying 1 unread e-mail even though all the e-mail in my mailboxes are marked as read. This problems seems to occur when I navigate through the application fast, it just can't keep up (not surprising since the application is rather slow in the first place).
The only way I've been able to get rid of this problem is to reinstall the messaging application. Very irritating. Guess it's time go to back to System Seven and hope that Nokia can get its act together. Luckily I anticipated this and didn't uninstall System Seven when I tried messaging again today.

Q: Just as a clarification:
Have you checked if the unread message you refer to is located in another mailbox than the inbox?
It is quite often I have unread messages in my outbox (for a few seconds) or in my sent box (more permanently). For some reason I have to go in and "read" the messages in the sent box to get rid of this marker you are talking about.
I have yet to figure out if there is any structure to why this is happening.

Thanks for the question. I understand that you are having trouble locating some application after the update to iOS 7. To troubleshoot this issue, let’s reset the home screen layout of your iPhone, which should move all of your applications to the second “page”:

Notifications and control panel do not work on either the app screen or home screen

On my home screen and in apps, I can not swipe up or down to release the notifications or control panel. It has worked earlier today, however not any more.
I can, however, access them in the lock screen, andin settings, they are allows to open in apps. It should always allow me to access them in the home screen though, so I do not know what has happened.
What do I have to do to access the control panel in the home screen, and why is it like this?

Do you have a screen protector or case that would interfere with swiping?
If so remove them as a test.
Otherwise:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

E-mail Notification On Home Screen 5800 v.30....wh...

This so called feature is not available after updating so a hard reset is required for it to be seen which i did do.
I then restored a back up and it disappeared.I then tried 2 back up's, one with settings and one without and it still wasn't anywhere to be seen.
So, if you really really really want E-mail notification on Home Screen then you'll have to start the phone from scratch, excellent work there Nokia.....why implement a feature that disappears after restoring a back up from your own software (PC suite)!

For all of you who consider hard resetting the phone and starting it from scratch, so that the email notification on the homescreen appears: it works just fine, even if you use the Nokia Email instead of the built in email client!

Email Notification on Home Screen

Hi everyone, todays N97 problem appears to be as follows..........
After going through half a dozen email clients i finally went back to the default one installed in the phone and for the past 4 days i have been using it without any problems what so ever. Today though, after recieving a new email, i retrieved it from my inbox, read it and deleted it (phone memory) as i have done previous days. Todays problem seems to be that the new email notification on the home screen is still there after deleting the last new email. Even after i mark all the emails in my inbox and delete them and then re-connect to my inbox they appear again, this has only started to happen as of today.
Ive seen in other forum posts that this cant be de-activated? How can this be the case if i have been using the client for 4 days and im only having this problem now? Its a notification, so technically of course it can be removed or stopped.
Please please please help with this solution, the only one i can find at the moment is switching the handset on and off which isnt a solution what so ever.

exactly.. This was very unwelcome.. I undrstand the contact bar widget has limited space to put everythin we want.. But in shortcut bar home theme y did they remove email notification.. Tht was very unwise..
Moreover we should be able to choose what we'd need on the home screen.
Moreover the Contacts bar home screen widget takes an awful amount of RAM! Abt 5-6MB i guess.. Lets see what v60, as rumored, has to offer..

Hello, Sorry you re having problems getting this sorted out. Might I suggest that you try the E-Mail Widget from the Options menu on the home screen.

UNHIDE/HIDE MESSAGE NOTIFICATION ON HOME SCREEN

I currently have a Nokia E63. I have hidden the message notification box on my home screen by using the backspace button. Does anyone know how to get (unhide) that box?

It's amazing how the Nokia guide book tells you:
"To view the notifications, scroll to a box. Each box is only visible if there are items in it. TO hide the boxes, press the backspace key."
And then there is nothing on how to unhide the boxes.
So I found the solution. I'm getting a Blackberry. Thanks for unsupport Nokia.

Email Icon Notification - Home Screen - Option to remove automatic notification?

I have a need to remove the automatic email notification on the home screen.
Would love to know how to remove the option of automatically being notified for every new email but retain the ability to check my emails from the handset.

You could always modify your Sounds profile to not play a tone and not flash the red LED when you receive a work email on the weekend so you would only see the email when you looked at your phone.

Unwanted 'New Email' notification on home screen

Havin read some of the posts on this board concerning email notification messages, i went to
menu-tools-settings-general-personalisation-homescreen-mode settings-homescreen applications-enabledapplications, and unticked both email1 and email2 notifications, and yet I still get the message every time I recieve an email on the mail for exchange.
any suggestions?
also it does seem pretty absurd the setttings are buried away in these menus to such an extent you have to look it up online to sort the navigation...

I agree with you. The Nokia Messaging gives you the push mail, but the notification on the phone is poor. You have to open the Nokia Mail app on the 5800 to see the message. Without V30 if new mail arrives and you miss the beep there is no indication from the home screen of new mail.
Even with V30 unfortunately you can only see the most recent email that has arrived on the home screen- and for some reason it still shows it as unopened once you've read it i.e. the closed envelope rather then opened.
FYI- you can turn the email notification on the home screen off.
I'm still amazed that there isn't a unified app that brings SMS, Mail, Chat etc all into the same window. So you only have to check in one place for incoming communication. Maybe there's a third party solution out there??
Maybe one of the other Nokia phones has this, E72?
