Home Share a Playlist?

I have two Macs Running iTunes9 and have home sharing turned on. I am able to copy the songs from one computer to the other, but I also want to copy a Playlist. How do I move a playlist from one computer to the other? I don't want to move the songs, I have already done that. I just need the playlist copied to the other computer.

Following the instructions on this thread https://discussions.apple.com/message/19745679#19745679 I was able to downgrade my ATV3 back to 5.0.2, and my Apple life is good again. This problem is distinctly different from the prior batch of connectivity problems in that Home Sharing itself never disconects, and I continue to be able to browse and select content; it just wouldn't play. It is plainly clear to me that this issue is related to the firmware update at this juncture. I look forward to Apple sorting thorugh this issue in a future release, but I'm perfectly happy staying at 5.0.2 for the time being.
I did not experience the activation problems that some others are having, but I do have an associated Apple remote and iTunes at hand, so that may be why. I did get the annoying pop-ups until it pestered me enough to complete the activation activites though.

  • Now that I have home share my drag and drop feature doesn't work to create playlists

Now with Home Share there are two subsets of playlists.  One is on the hard drive of the acutual computer where the iTunes originated.  Once I am at a Home Share computer I cannot use the playlist feature.  I can CREATE a playlist and name it, but the drag and drop feature does not work for songs which are not directly located on this hard drive.  I can, for some reason, attach an iPod and make a list over on that, but that is all.

Because IE is running in a different user context. You cannot drag and drop anything from Explorer into a different user context. This isn't a "SharePoint" issue, as it relates to any application run as a different user.

  • How do I share a playlist from my itunes library with another user on the same computer?

I would like to share a playlist with another uuser on the same computer.  We have separate itunes libraries on the same computer. How do gey my playlist from my library to hers?

I'm not sure, but maybe if you activate home sharing. It should also share playlists, not only files.
The only other way I can think of is to export the playlist and import for the other user.

  • How do I share my playlists with other accounts/users on my Mac?

How do I share my playlists with other accounts/users on my Mac?

    Hello,
I have a similar question, which I posted 8perhaps inappropriately) in the Home Sharing discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/message/17405588#17405588
The problem I have is that it simply doesn't work and the question I have is how you do not move the the iTunes Library file or the iTunes Library.xml file when they are actually in the folder you are told by the article to move in the first place.

  • Suggestion: Home Sharing and Playlists - Import the playlist, too!

I recently installed iTunes 9 on my MacBook Pro and my Windows XP PC, which acts as my main "library" for iTunes since it has more drive space. Since 10.6 freed up a few gigs on my MBP, I figured I would copy over some music onto it.
I set up the Home Sharing feature, and it works well - I was able to copy music without a problem. Thank you!
Something I did note, though - when I clicked on a Playlist on the remote library, and imported the music, it imported the individual tracks, but not the list itself. I needed to go to the remote computer, export the playlist, and import it manually into the laptop if I wanted to keep the same playlist on both computers.
Would it be possible to add an option / feature to bring the playlist itself (rather than just the music in the list) over using Home Sharing?
    Thank you!

I don't know if telling Apple this would help. It such a common sense thing that's missing from iTunes. I mean, c'mon... who ISN'T annoyed that when you share your playlists in iTunes they all dissappear into one long list on the other computer all muddled together instead of being listed to the left as a list... you know, playLISTs???????
Probably one of the biggest annoyances I have with iTunes bar none. I thought for sure they'd finally fixed this GLARING ommision when 9 came out with home sharing... but it STILL puts all your separate playlists all muddled together in one big list on the other computers you share them to.
    LAME, Apple... LAME.

  • Using Home Share to move a library

I am in the midst of transferring music, tv shows, and movies from an old laptop to a newer desktop. I am using the Home Sharing feature of iTUnes to do this.
There is about 20GB worth of content transfering.
Is Home Sharing a good way to do this transfer?
Once I complete the tranfer (it's taking a while), can I delete the files from the old laptop? I'm trying to free up some space on the old computer and the videos are large.
    Thanks,
    jr

If you can get Home Share to work at all and to continue to work over time (which are not things you should take for granted, per the many posts here and on other boards), you should be able to do what you wish. Be prepared to have the signal drop every so often if it is a large library and you're running wirelessly, but Home Sharing does let you know what it was doing when it dropped, so you should be able to start from there when you reconnect. Then, you could easily delete the files from the first computer or drive. (That said, I found it easier to restore to my new computer from a backup on an external background. It was a bit tricky to get the playlists added afterwards, but you'd have the same problem, I believe, if you used Home Sharing as it just transfers the music files and not the playlist information, or so it appears to me.)

  • Home Share Issues

I have my my music libary on my Mac and I have a windows PC (work) I am trying to import movies and music from my MAC to windows laptop. When I try to import a song i get a message that says "AUTHORIZATION IS NEEDED TO ACCESS 0" when i try a movie I get the same message or "network has timed out". i also get a message "THE URL 0 COULD NOT BE FOUND ON THE SERVER"
I just did a test in reverse I imported from my windows laptop library to my MAC library and that worked fine?
Is there some kind of fix for this? Does this "sharing" really work?

I have two machines. With iTunes 8, sharing was working just fine. Upgraded to 9 - No more sharing.
I have found something interesting. Seems like everyone is troubleshooting firewall ports, playlist settings, file permissions, ect.
Is it possible the 'credentials' for the home share are not being passes properly?
    Try this.
    STEP1:
    Advanced Menu>Turn On Home Share
    Enter Apple ID and password.
    Click create 'create home share'.
    DO NOT CLICK DONE!
    TEST1:
Under the shared menu, right click on home sharing, click 'open in new window'.
Notice that your credentials are missing.
    TEST2:
Double click 'Home Sharing'. Again, no username shown.
    Test3:
Click the Down arrow next to home sharing. It should 'minimize' home sharing. Click it again, home sharing comes back. Click on home share. Again, Apple ID.
Any way we can test this? What port does this thing talk over on the LAN?
Any script we can test with the iTunes COM?

  • Can I share itunes playlists from one computer to another?

Can I share itunes playlists from one computer to another?

My computer cannot run  Sharing so I don't have firsthand experience.  My reading of it is:
    1) Music sharing lets you stream (not transfer) select items, including specific playlists, between local computers on the same network.
    2) Home Sharing lets you stream or transfer media files between computers on the same network.  I don't know if this is as spacific as particular playlists, or you you have to make the playlist once the desired content is transferred.  It says media so doesn't look like it restricts transfer to specific playlists, it just makes your whole media collection accessible on another authorized computer.
You can export a playlist file from iTunes, but this is a text file listing of content, not a complete playable package.

  • IPod touch 4G does load home share anymore?

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem, 2 days ago i could load my home share library to my iPod and listen to music.  Today my when i go into shared and select the home share library i want, it show it loading.  When done loading, all my playlist show up on the iPod but when you select a playlist it show no music or when click on songs or artist there are no songs.  I have another computer with home share on the same apple ID it loads and plays no problem.  I also have an iPhone 4S and it will load both home shares no problem and play them, any ideas.  I have shut down the iPod many times aswell as reboot computer.

I'm having the exact same issue, I've had the problem for 2 days now.  Were you able to fix this?

  • Why does Home Share constantly kick me out?

My family and I have three devices that share libraries through Home Share. For some reason, Home Share disconnects randomly and is a huge hassle to fix (getting all of the mp3's and mp4's by playing them through iTunes, recreating playlists, double-checking the number of songs in them). Why is this happening and, if at all possible, how can I fix it?

Well, you can try the old 'tried and true' method ..... Reset/reboot.  Not a complete restore just a reboot.

  • Where is the home share button at after update?

Using a ipad 3 on the music app, I can't find the home share button... It use to be located on the playlist and now I can no longer find it.

If you don't see the AirPlay icon in Control Center:
    1. Reset the AirPlay devices
    2. Reboot the router
    3. Reboot the iPad

  • ITunes Home share disappears ,restarting iTunes fixes for a while.

I have a PC server (no monitor) with a newly installed win 7x64, latest updates, and latest iTunes.  Homesharing is enabled.
This is connected to a gigabit HP Procurve switch.
An apple TV2 ,wireless accesspoint, and ADSL modem are also connected to the same switch (and several other intel PC's around the house).
I use my iPhone to select the iTunes homeshare, and airplay to the apple tv.
This works just fine for about 1/2 hour or more , but then the homeshare just disappears.
Restarting iTunes on the server fixes the problem , but, the home share drops out again.
When it goes down, I used the 'bonjour browser' on another networked pc (ie, not the itunes one) and the home share is not listed. So, I'm tending to think that itunes is 'crashing' internally somewhere.
I dont think it is the firewall, since it would either work all the time or not at all.
The apple tv is connected to the itunes server via a very good switch and ethernet cabling. It is a very simple setup.
This is highly frustrating since I've banked on apple products to power the music in my house.  But, every 1/2 hour i've got to restart itunes. Annoying if I am hosting a party.
    Any ideas?

The notebook and desktop cannot see each other, but they can see the netbook. I know that going forward, I will need to manually manage the ratings on both computers, bit I have smart playlists set up to do that. My main issue is that because I duplicating the exact same folders on the vista laptop tinthe windows 7 desktop, this threw something off in home share where they do not recognize each other. I need to know what was thrown off so I can fix it.

  • Share iTunes playlists (and music files) on multiple devices and separate networks

I want to know how to share playlists between my devices (i.e., iphone, ipod, ipad) and another device (ipad, itouch, ipod) across networks. In other words, without the benefit of home share since the other device will not be on my home network.

  • HT202213 Home share is on but does not work

The home share has now done this twice. I have the icon on all devices but twice not they dont work. They cant find one another. I have shut done and restarted all devices and checked to see the home share is on. It tells me see its on but the icons said no devices. I bought a apple tv so I could do this but this is getting to be a pain.

Sounds like the lcd display died.  If it's under warranty with your carrier, call them and get a replacement.  If not, it's time for a new BB.
