Home Share comparing libraries

Running iTunes 10.1 with Homes Sharing On and working. I have two libraries connected, one with music only and another with all my videos too. When browsing the Home Shared library with all the media, I see it all. When I choose the "Items not in my Library" option, I expected to see all the videos not in the library. Instead, the only media I see are the few tagged in the main library as TV Shows. All of the media tagged as a movie or music video is missing. This seems to be a bug in this version.
I wiped out the iTunes library files on the small library and reset everything. At first, the comparison toggle correctly showed all the videos not in the current library. *Then I set up the Genius feature.* After the Genius was complete, all the missing videos were again not displayed as "Items not in my library". The Genius setup process seems to have changed something.

Tried the Genius solution you posted and confirmed it worked. Great job. Specifically, I turned off Genius on both machines, turned off home sharing on both after the Genius results deleted and then turned Home Sharing back on. Worked perfect, showed all items that were not in library.

  • HT3819 Can you home share with two libraries on the same computer?

Can home share be used with two libraries on the same computer?

iTunes must be running for home sharing to work.  There is no way to have home sharing running simultaniously for two users on the same computer.
Simply add the media files using File > Add File/Folder option in iTunes.

  • Does anyone know how to share libraries in home share on this new version of itunes.

Does anyone know how to share music or import music from 1 computer to another on the home share. My daughter and I have been doing it for a while now but the new updated version wont let us. And the instructions on the help are of no help as there is no button to check that says NOT IN MY LIBRARY to check.

If you have home Sharing working you first have to import the songs to your computer and then sync to your iPod.

I've got it solved. I turned off Home Sharing on my main machine and then turned it back on and then both machines worked, Drag and Drop worked, the Import and Settings button reappeared.
I wonder why I needed to do that.

  • Why can I no longer filter libraries in home share?

When I selected the shared library I used to be able to choose at the bottom all the library or only the songs/videos that were not in my current library.  I no longer seem to have this option.  ITunes help says that at the bottom of the shared library window I can change settings.  I no longer seem to have settings either.  I need to copy music between my home share itunes.  Any thoughts on how I can do this?

Are you using the same ID for homesharing on all devices.
By the way shared libraries don't show up under either 'Music' or 'Libraries'.

  • HT3819 Home Share issue: I have a Mac and Apple TV. Both are log into the same Wifi network and the same iTunes account (I can view purchased movies on AppleTV). Home Sharing shows 'ON' for both devices. BUT...AppleTV shows no computers. Itunes sidebar-no

Has anyone else found solution to Apple devices not 'seeing' each other on Home Share?  I have a Macbook Air (new Nov'12) and Apple TV (new Dec'12). Software updated on both. Both are logged into the same Wifi network and the same iTunes account (I can view movies purchased from iTunes on my AppleTV). Home Sharing shows 'ON' for both devices. BUT...AppleTV shows no computers... and ... Itunes sidebar does not have a 'Shared' area at all.  Help please as without this functionality, my Apple TV only provides portal to purchased (i.e. Netflix,...) content which I can get from Wii or Xbox.
I have already tried the following without success:
    1. Homeshare DID work the first day after I setup Apple TV... but the next day it has not worked since then.
    2. Powered off 30 sec then re-started (Apple TV & Macbook & iTunes login)
    3. Checked Firewall settings per Home Sharing troubleshooting guide (correct settings)
    4. Turning on Photostream in iPhoto and selecting iPhoto within iTunes and then checking to see if Photostream shows anything on AppleTV (it shows 'on' for my iTunes account but 'Zero' pictures found ... despite the >3,000 pictures showing avail in iTunes).
I also have 'Remote" app on my iPhone 4, with Home Sharing turned on (same Wifi network)... it has a very similar message as the Apple TV and same result that despite all devices having HomeShare 'on' they cannot see each other:  "Remote will automatically find the iTunes libraries and Apple TVs that have Home Sharing turned on using the account xxxx (it lists my correct itunes account name)."

I solved this by reset of the Wifi (unplug cable and power to both modem and wifi ... wait 60 sec ... plug in modem cable and power ... plug in wifi power and LAN to modem ... restart AppleTV and Mac ... Turn Home Share 'OFF' in iTunes then back "ON" ... it took ~60 sec for the AppleTV to pick up my Mac in computers.

  • HT3819 If I have to load the same apple id on all devices to use home share, does that preclude each device from using a second apple id and does that constitute a separate Itunes db or something?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Only one of your libraries needs to use your iTunes Store Apple ID for home sharing. Your other computers can use their own ID for iTunes, so long as they use the same ID as all of the devices on the network for home sharing.

  • HT4363 I have 2 iMacs with the home share activated using the same account ID and password, but only 1 computer at a time will show up on the main Apple TV "computers" menu. Can I have more than 1 computer sharing?

Will ALL computer's home sharing show up on the "computer's" main menu on the Apple TV screen, and if so, can I switch between computers while they are using the "home share" feature?

This should not be a problem, I have a mix of Apple & PC libraries on the ATV.
Looks like you have another issue going on there, perhaps one of your computers is going to sleep or something.

  • HT3819 If my partner & I both have an iTunes account, can we home share both or somehow combine the two accounts?

If my partner & I both have an iTunes account, can we home share both or somehow combine the two accounts?

As of right now there is no way to combine Apple accounts.
As for "sharing", you can go into the iTunes settings for each and turn on Home Sharing, this will make your music libraries available to each other, provided you are both using different computers.

  • Will iTunes 10.6.1 on a 2005 iMac be able to home-share with iTunes 7 on a 2008 iMac and a new iPhone 5?

On the iPhone page I was told the iPhone 5 will work with iTunes 10.7, so maybe I shouldn't upgrade to iTunes 11 since a lot of people don't like it. Nobody here seems to know how to combine my two iTunes libraries on the same account but different-aged iMacs.
So the question is, if I upgrade my 2008 Intel iMac to Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion and iTunes 10.7, will it and my new iPhone 5 be able to access the 80GB library on the 10.6.1 version of iTunes on the older white 2005 iMac?
I appreciate any help anyone can give me.  I currently have home sharing via a WiFi network, to rephrase in case my previous unanswered questions haven't been clear, I'm wondering if I will be able to home-share between 10.6.1 and 10.7, and if an iPhone 5 would be able to access a home-shared library on the older 10.6.1 version?

Thanks for the link, Niel.  I'm kind of disappointed with Apple that they're making us buy an upgrade to her OS to get all of her Apple products to work together.  It seems weird that we could have any old Windows machine and this would work great, but the fact that she has a MacBook is screwing this up.

  • Home Share has stopped working in iTunes (10.5.2.11)

My iPod touch Remote no longer works to find the library on my Windows XP computer. It has worked for some long time here prior to this newest version of iTunes. (It doesn't work on my iPad either.)
If I turn off the Windows fire wall it works very well! So there must be some ports that need to be enabled. The question is what ports.

Home share uses the following: Home Sharing uses TCP port 3689 and UDP port 5353 to communicate with shared iTunes libraries --- this according to Apple. I had previously opened UDP port 5353 to solve another problem. Opening TCP 3689 solved the home sharing problem.

  • Can See Home Share but cannot See Music

I have 3 computers that are all authorized and have home share running Windows XP. Currently my method of sharing music is using a windows share, but wanted to give home share a try. Comp1 is my master, Comp2 can see the home share, view, and copy just fine. Comp3 can see the home share but within a couple of seconds of clicking the home share it goes back to it's own music library with no error. If I access the same library(windows share) through the home share from Comp3 but going through Comp2 instead this works. I can also mount all the songs on Comp3 and see them from home share on Comp1. I can create a small library on Comp1 and this can be accessed through home share on Comp3. Anybody have a clue to why the full library cannot be accessed directly from Comp3 on Comp1?

I had this problem and after trying several suggested solutions, came up with the one that worked for me. My Windows firewall was not the problem, it was the ESET virus software firewall on my XP system. In order to see the shared libraries, I have to turn it off. After playing music, I need to turn it back on. Hope this helps!

  • How to Home Share on Itunes

I have a windows 7 OS and I amd trying to "Home Share" with my wife's windows 7 OS computer......
I have read a few tutorials and they all describe the steps to achieve Home Sharing. The 2 problems I found when following the tutorials is first they all mention selecting "Advanced" drop down menu. I do not have an "Advanced" menu item???? Second, after I appear to have the home sharing functional, I do not see both of our 2 libraries on the left side panel of the Itunes app as shown in all tutorials. I am able to switch from one computer's Itunes library to the other computer's Itunes library. Because I can't see both libraries at the same time, all the movement of songs between the 2 libraries can't be accomplished as decribed in the tutorials. They all depend on both libraries being visible and accessible at the same time.
What do I do to get both libraries visible on the left panel in Itunes in the windows environment.
I have checked and I have the latest Itunes on both machines (11.0.5.5)
    I can use any help......Robert

You won't see 2 shared libraries.
You will see 1 (from the other's computer).

  • More Home Share Issues

Been browsing all the home share issues here but not seeing this symptom. I have 4 comps on the same wired network. Upgraded all to the newest itunes and activated home share with the same account on all...sharing options all checked and turned on.
This issue is on one of the 4 comps. I can see the other 3 home share libraries, but when I click on one it says "loading xxx library" but then after a few seconds the window goes back to the music library on that computer...it never shows the other libraries on any of the other home share comps. I can access the folders on those machines directly over the network...even can play the songs on them using Tunes as the music player. But I can not get those libraries to show up from the home share function.
Any ideas out there ?. I don't even know what to tinker with at this point.

Same issue for me. 3 pc's running iTunes 9.0.1, two on Vista and one on XP. My daughter's PC (running Vista) can see the other libraries on the Home Share but clicking on it only briefly shows my Library and then the focus returns to her Library. Additionally she can no longer connect to the iTunes store as the progress bar simply stalls at around 50% when clicking on the iTunes store icon.
No internet issues from her laptop - she's able to do everything (and see our network) as she always has been.

  • Applet TV Shares - Does NOT HOME Share

Computers can 'HOME share' computer iTunes libraries with other computers signed in on other iTune account. Apple TV can not do this HOME share.
Apple TV only 'shares' libraries from computers which have signed in using the same iTunes account.
How do you work around this?

You are supposed to use ONE home share account for all computers and Apple TVs. Each computer can still be logged into separate and individual iTunes accounts but the Home Share account used has to be the same for all. Then on the ATV all the iTunes libraries will show up.
Note that you aren't signing into iTunes by adding the home sharing account to it. You still remain signed into your own iTunes account.
