Home Share on two computers

I've been able to set up home sharing on two computers but the library doesnt show up on the second computer? Both computers have homeshare enabled.

Hello scollins60,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

"Error -3150"
This alert is often related to a lost connection to the iTunes Store.
If you encounter this alert and you have verified you have a connection to the Internet using Wi-Fi, please reviewAirPort and Bluetooth: Potential sources of wireless interference.
If the issue persists, and you're using iTunes for Windows, you may need to flush your DNS and remove pop-up or ad-blockers.
Finally, this can occur due to timeouts caused by security software.
Best of luck,

Can home share be used with two libraries on the same computer?

iTunes must be running for home sharing to work.  There is no way to have home sharing running simultaniously for two users on the same computer.
Simply add the media files using File > Add File/Folder option in iTunes.

  • Turned on home sharing on two computers, but shared library isn't coming up.

Two computers have home sharing turned on with the same apple user name and id, but the library can't be viewed by the 2nd computer.  Any ideas?

  • Can't share between two computers, and I've tried everything in this forum

Two Computers - iMac G3, Intel MacBook Pro, both running 10.4.9 and iTunes 7.1.1. I've got iTunes Firewall through port 3689 turned on on both. Both are on a wireless connection on the same subnet. I've got Share library" turned on in iTunes and also "look for shared libraries". Still can't get the libraries to show up. This has worked in the past, but I haven't used it much. The MacBook is new and this is the first time trying to do this, but it did work with the PowerBook it replaced.
Could it be an authorization thing?
At my wit's end on this, and wife is getting P.O'd that I'm spending so much time on it instead of what I should be doing. Save my marriage and help me out.
MacBook Pro, G3 iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   iTunes 7.1.1
MacBook Pro, G3 iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I've got a similar problem. I have just copied my music library to an external HD connected to my Airport Extreme Base Station. I would like for both computers to share a single library so that I could import a CD, or buy a song from the iTunes Store, on either computer and the library file would be updated. At the moment, both computers can play songs from the external HD, but, for example, if I add a new song to the library from my G4, then turn on my MacBook Pro and open iTunes, the new song doesn't appear.
Any ideas on how to fix this? Both computers running OS 10.4.9 with iTunes 7.1.1. I've tried sharing the libraries as Micalk mentioned... no dice.

Can my wife and I share a subscription on two computers at the same time?

You can install subscriptions on up to two computers if it is for personal use, but beyond that, I would recommend Creative Cloud for Teams http://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud/teams.html?promoid=KBYQU

  • TS2972 Only able to home share with 5 computers?

How do I disable home sharing with a computer that I no onger own?

If you no longer have the computer, you will need to deauthorize all of your computers and then Authorize the remaining computers again. You can do this once a year only.  See this article.

  • Home Share with two accounts.. a little help

Just bought my first iPad and I have an iPhone provided by my company so I have two accounts.. can I share my personal music with my company iPhone?

You can use homesharing with different iTunes accounts.
The device will need to be authorised or associated with the other account and all devices will need to use the same Apple ID for homesharing, regardles of which ID is used for the iTunes account.

  • Can two computers share one iTunes library?

I am trying to map out a new plan for how we store and play music via iTunes at home. Currently, our music is stored on a windows PC and played via iTunes and an airport express.  I recently bought a new macbook and am considering an airport extreme with the hope that I can store the music on a hard drive attached to the airport extreme and play music from either computer.  Can the two computers share one library? I already have home sharing turned on and can access my library from the macbook, but if possible, I would prefer having the hard drive separate of the desktop.  Any reason this won't work?
    Thanks!

Yes, two computers can share the same library.
I periodically copy my iTunes library from my Mac Pro to the Mac Mini.
They aren't using a single library. Each computer is using its own copy and you have two sets of library files.  It can certainly be done that way but if between copy sessions you edit a bit of each library then it is a bit of a muddle trying to make sure your versions are synchronized with each other.  For example, ratings are stored only in the .itl file, so if you rate a song on your second computer it will get lost the next time you copy over from your first.

  • HT3819 If my partner & I both have an iTunes account, can we home share both or somehow combine the two accounts?

If my partner & I both have an iTunes account, can we home share both or somehow combine the two accounts?

As of right now there is no way to combine Apple accounts.
As for "sharing", you can go into the iTunes settings for each and turn on Home Sharing, this will make your music libraries available to each other, provided you are both using different computers.

  • Problems sharing across two computers on home lan

I must be doing something basic wrong. The instructions for sharing a downloaded digital edtion sound very easy in the help manual but following those directions I am not able to share a book across two computers on my home lan.
Both computers have been authorized by my user id. When I open the menu item on Library menu/Authorize computer
I'm told the computer is authorized and my UID is shown. However when I attempt to `add' the book I get a message saying:
    > This document cannot be opened on this machine.
    > Please contact the site where you obtained the document
    > to download another copy.
I just bought the book today not more than 2 hrs ago
The `knowledgbase' help for digital editions is completely useless and returns no hits regardless of what I type in the search field.
What else do I need to do to share a book across two home computers?

    Harry
You shouldn't need anything else. The common problems (after you have gotten past the authorization) for sharing are:
    - You copy over the .etd file instead of the .pdf file.
    - You copy over the .pdf file from /Digital Editions/ebx_backup instead of /Digital Editions. (My best guess, given the error message).
    - The file was purchased with only rights to view it on a single machine.
The not so common and more worrisome case would be if the License was not being correctly written into the file after you purchase it.
I would suggest that after verifying you are copying the correct file, you should open up a web support case, so that Bentley can track this, and help us gather all the correct information so we can figure out what is going on.
    Sorry you're having problems

  • Can I home share two separate itunes accounts to the same homeshare?

I would like to home share two separate iTunes accounts we have at the house.  Has anyone done that? Or am I forced to consolidate to one iTunes account which only allows 5 authorized computers?

Yes you can set up homesharing on more than one library to be shared with other devices, just use the same homesharing ID and password on all of them.

  • Computers not showing on home share

I currently have 3 computers all on the same home share network. Two MacBook pros and a desktop pc. One MacBook shows each of the other computers. The other two computers only show the first MacBook and not each other.
I am at a loss for how to make all computers see one another. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    1. Try turn Off Home sharing one at a time and turn it back On again.
    2. If it doesn't help, switch internet security Off and do step 1 again.
    3. If you still have Sharing problem, see links below

  • Itunes doesn't show Home Share words or list of other authorized computers

I have "turned on" Home Share. I have authorized a second computer. When logged in to the second computer, the Itunes screen does not show the option Home Share, or show the names of the authorized computers. So, no sharing of music is possible. What is the fix for this, please? The Help catalog does not answer the question.

I don't know if you've done this already, but you need to:
    Turn on "home sharing" turned on all of the relevant computers;
    Make sure the computers have to be on the same network;
You just turned on "Home Sharing", some people report that they had to quit iTunes and restart it before "Home Sharing" worked; and
If those previous steps failed to solve the problem, you might want to check the firewall settings on each of the computers to ensure that UDP Port 5353 (which allows the computers to see each other and appear in iTunes on the other computers) and TCP Port 3689 (which allows the actual "Home Sharing" features to work) are both enabled.
See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1601 for how to configure the default Windows firewall. If you're running a third party firewall (sometimes part of your antivirus software), the particulars of opening the appropriate ports on the firewall may differ.
If you think the problem may be a firewall issue and you're not 100% comfortable with how to "open ports", a quick test would be to temporarily disable the firewall on both machines, restart iTunes on both machines, and see if it works. This is just a test to see if the firewall is the problem, but you should promptly turn your firewall on again and if "Home Sharing" worked while the firewalls were turned off, you just need to proceed with the particulars of opening these two ports on both machines. I've also seen people open the port in their default Windows firewall, but neglect to realize that they might have two firewalls (e.g., neglect to check their antivirus software's firewall). Unfortunately, the particular instructions on how to open the firewall ports will vary from one firewall software package to another. But if you have problems, let us know what firewall software you're running and someone can probably help. (Or just check with your firewall vendor.)
    Hope this helps.

  • Limit on Number of Home Share Computers?

I think there was a limit on the number of home share computers you could have long ago.  I did home sharing with my mom on her computer a few years ago via my home LAN.  We took her computer to her assisted living facility so she could enjoy music.  She has since passed on and the computer has been cleaned.  How do I get that one home share count back or is that not an issue anymore?

    Hi Vineet,
In Latest version of SAP MDM which is 7.1 we have the liberty to use multiple Main tables so answer to your question is yes we can use 20-30 main tables, now the question is that what type of data model you are prepairing this question is just to understand your entire structure and may be suggest some thing at higher level on which you can think and then take corrective action as per your thoughts.
Generally even if you are integrating Customer/Products in single repository and then designing the main table you wont have to prepare such huge number of main tables you can have these two main tables and then rest of then as sub tables and refer it to each other also you need to know what imapct it will have on system performance becuase they would be referring to each other and also if you are creating some thousands of records in each repository then it is more advisable to use limited number of main tables and use MDM to it's fullest capability by designing such model that we have best utlisation of server performance.
    Hope it helped a bit.
Let me know if you need any further information on same.
    Thanks and Regards
    Praful.

  • HT3819 Home Share issue: I have a Mac and Apple TV. Both are log into the same Wifi network and the same iTunes account (I can view purchased movies on AppleTV). Home Sharing shows 'ON' for both devices. BUT...AppleTV shows no computers. Itunes sidebar-no

Has anyone else found solution to Apple devices not 'seeing' each other on Home Share?  I have a Macbook Air (new Nov'12) and Apple TV (new Dec'12). Software updated on both. Both are logged into the same Wifi network and the same iTunes account (I can view movies purchased from iTunes on my AppleTV). Home Sharing shows 'ON' for both devices. BUT...AppleTV shows no computers... and ... Itunes sidebar does not have a 'Shared' area at all.  Help please as without this functionality, my Apple TV only provides portal to purchased (i.e. Netflix,...) content which I can get from Wii or Xbox.
I have already tried the following without success:
    1. Homeshare DID work the first day after I setup Apple TV... but the next day it has not worked since then.
    2. Powered off 30 sec then re-started (Apple TV & Macbook & iTunes login)
    3. Checked Firewall settings per Home Sharing troubleshooting guide (correct settings)
    4. Turning on Photostream in iPhoto and selecting iPhoto within iTunes and then checking to see if Photostream shows anything on AppleTV (it shows 'on' for my iTunes account but 'Zero' pictures found ... despite the >3,000 pictures showing avail in iTunes).
I also have 'Remote" app on my iPhone 4, with Home Sharing turned on (same Wifi network)... it has a very similar message as the Apple TV and same result that despite all devices having HomeShare 'on' they cannot see each other:  "Remote will automatically find the iTunes libraries and Apple TVs that have Home Sharing turned on using the account xxxx (it lists my correct itunes account name)."

I solved this by reset of the Wifi (unplug cable and power to both modem and wifi ... wait 60 sec ... plug in modem cable and power ... plug in wifi power and LAN to modem ... restart AppleTV and Mac ... Turn Home Share 'OFF' in iTunes then back "ON" ... it took ~60 sec for the AppleTV to pick up my Mac in computers.
