Home Share only sharing part of library

This is getting rather frustrating... I put 2 computers on Home Share. Computer #1 has access to all of the files on computer #2. But Computer #2 can only see 3.4 GB of the 12 GB on computer #1.
Anybody know why this is and a possible fix?
I was hoping to just move the files from #1 to #2 via Home Share so I don't have to do the flash drive thing... after all I thought that was the purpose behind Home Share.
Thanks in advance

Actually the original library was started on another computer. When I got a lab top, I decided to delete the original library on the old one and make my lab top my main library and that is when I started having my problems. The first time I sync the new library I was able to download more songs, but still not the full library.

  • Is it possible to share only a part of contact.

    Hi,
Is it possible to share only a part of an contact? For example: If you have more nubmers and data for one contact (mostly we do) and would like to send someone only one number and not the rest of contact`s data (personal)? I know that on some other phones this is possible. Thanks for answers.

You can update all, or download select App updates one at a time by selecting the app update you want to install.

  • Does Home Share only work when you are at home?  Or once you've shared will the music stay on the computer you've shared it with?

I want to use Home Share to share music in i-Tunes between my desk top and my laptop.  Does it work once you're not in the same house?

If you use home sharing to transfer music to your laptop, it stays on the laptop and you can take it anywhere.
Look at Understanding Home Sharing:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819  where it says "With Home Sharing, you can stream music and video from one authorized computer to another, or simply drag music between computer libraries. You can also choose to have iTunes automatically import purchases you make on any of your Home Sharing computers to your own library."

  • Trouble with share/burn for part of library

Trying to use the share/burn command.  I select parts of the library I want to back up, but IPhoto thinks I want to burn the entire library and says there is insufficient space on the target DVD.  I select the year by ticking the corresponding box which turns blue.  I've done this before without difficulty.
    Using iPhoto 6, OS10.6.8

Also how many photos are in the year's selection to be burned?  The resulting library that is burned will be larger than just the size of the photos selected.  It will include all edited versions, database files, and other files the library requires.  It can get over the size allotted for the disk.  For a DVD I try to limit the size of the selected photos to 4 GB or less.
Unless you plan to never upgrade to iPhoto 9 (11) or later I'd give some serious thought to what Terence has to say.  To be able to move on up the chain at some time in the future to the latest version of iPhoto and Mac I'd get an external HD formatted OS X Extended (journaled) and copy the entire library to it.  You can keep it updated with backup software that does incremental backups, i.e. copying only those new or modified file to the EHD.  Three such apps are Synk, Synk Pro and ChronoSync.

  • Itunes only sync part of library

For some reason my Ipod is only syncing to part of my Itunes library. I have over 750 songs in my library put when I sync only 64 songs are showing up. I have unistalled and reinstalled Itunes and have restored my Ipod to factory settings and still only 64 songs sync in my Ipod. What makes it even more weird, is that it is always to same songs that gets downloaded If anyone could assist me, please do?

  • I have the iPad 2 and for about two months now the home button only responds part time. It works occasionally and I have tried all of the tips on the discussion board.

My iPad 2 has a hoe button that is not responding constantly. It will either work right away or not respond for up to an hour. I have tried all of the suggestions posted on other questions and it's becoming ridiculous. I have a warranty but am afraid that if I get another iPad 2 the problem will continue on the new one.

If your iPad is defective and is still under warranty, you can take it to an Apple Authorized Repair Center and get it fixed.  If you are worried about a defective replacement, then a repair may be a better way to go.  <Apple Authorized Repair Centers>
Personally, I would prefer getting a replacement.  You read about many defects here in this forum, but they only represent a tiny percentage of all iPads sold.

  • TS2972 i can only see my homeshare library when i have itunes opened on my lap top. as soon as i close it on my laptop it goes away on my pc

i purchased a new dell desktop. my home itunes is on my laptop. the home share only works on the pc when i have itunes opened on my laptop. as soon as i close it on my laptop it disappears frpm the pc library

Have both computers running and have iTunes open on both computers.
Now, in the iTunes on the computer you want to transfer music to, select the library that you want to transfer music from, as per the following screenshot:
Once the other library loads, go down to the bottom of the screen and in "Show:" select "Items not in my library":
If you want to import all of the songs you can now see, head up to the iTunes menu bar and go "Edit > Select all". Then head down to the bottom of the screen again and click the "Import" button in the bottom-right-hand corner.
If there's a lot of stuff in your original laptop's library, the transfer may take some time.
To get playlist metadata across, see the following instructions:

  • Macbook air and iMac won't home share

I just bought a new Macbook Air (OS X Mavericks Version 10.9.4) and would like to transfer my music from my iMac (year 2009, Mac OS X Version 10.5.8) onto the Macbook. I have turned on home sharing on both devices and also file sharing. I am not seeing a home share icon in my iTunes library on either computer. My iMac is running on iTunes 10.6.3 and my Macbook Air is running iTunes 11.3 . I am hoping that despite the fact they are not updated the same, the music will still be able to transfer. Both devices are on the same wi-fi network as well. Would appreciate any feedback or advice! Thank you.

    Hi myraann19,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you want to move the music to your new computer with Home Sharing, but there is an issue setting it up. The first article linked below will walk you through setting up home Sharing, it also provides other options for moving the music to a new library also. And, the second article provides tips that should resolve the Home Sharing setup issue.

  • Home share library only appearing on PC and not Mac?

I just updated both my Mac and PC to iTunes 11 and tried to home share between the devices but my home share library is only appearing on my PC (my old device that I want to home share things off of). Any solutions? I've turned off firewall, rebooted iTunes on both computers etc etc

    Hi Dexterfreak95,
It sounds like you got a good start to Home Sharing as you have it one direction.
I would suggest the steps in this article next.

  • HT3819 Access to shared library after establishing Home Share

Original iTunes and library is on our home desktop.  I followed instructions for Home Share and did succeed in accessing the shared library on my laptop.  But when I wasns't connected, I no longer had access.  Do I always need to have internet connection to access shared library?

    Hey Laynesterv,
I'd give the following article a look - even though it says Troubleshooting, it covers a lot of useful information such as System Requirements and Setup:
    Troubleshooting Home Sharing
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972
According to the article, all the devices you want to use with Home Sharing need to be connected to your home network, so your daughter wouldn't be able to connect from college.
    Hope that helps,
    David

  • HT4363 I have 2 iMacs with the home share activated using the same account ID and password, but only 1 computer at a time will show up on the main Apple TV "computers" menu. Can I have more than 1 computer sharing?

Will ALL computer's home sharing show up on the "computer's" main menu on the Apple TV screen, and if so, can I switch between computers while they are using the "home share" feature?

This should not be a problem, I have a mix of Apple & PC libraries on the ATV.
Looks like you have another issue going on there, perhaps one of your computers is going to sleep or something.

  • TS2972 I have 4 Apple TV's. All set up to Home share. One will not see the computer. It is also the only 720 I have. The other three are 1080's. How do I get the 4th one (the720) to recognize my Mac?

I have 4 Apple TV's. All set up to Home share. One will not see the computer. It is also the only 720 I have. The other three are 1080's. How do I get the 4th one (the720) to recognize my Mac?

Need more information to help you, but I am providing some suggestions.  Sorry if you are past these type of basic things.  But didnt really have much to start with and understand your technical level to start with.
Have you got into Settings > Computers > Turned on Home Sharing (Note: You must use the some Apple ID used by the iTunes library on your MAC for them to see one another)
How is your MAC connected to the network vs the 720 ATV2?  Is one WiFi and the other Ethernet?  Have you tried switching the ATV2 to WiFi if Ethernet?
Has the MAC been restarted since this started happening?  Same with your Router and any other networking device being used?  Sometimes an IP conflict can arise in your networking and most consumer networking equipment does not know how to "self heal" without a reboot.
Make sure you have given those things a whirl and share back your results.  Any other information you can provide, such as how you connect to your network from each ATV and MAC.

  • Share only part of address book

    thank you for readig this.
Is there a way to share only part of an addressbook? I don't want to share every entry with my kids -- figure, there are things in it i don't want to share and there are A LOT of entries they really could care less about.
    Thanks for your help.

Does it matter if the kids are on a different
computer with their own addressbook and userid? or
is sharing addressbook an all or none thing?
    Hi helicopter,
If I understand your question, the only way your kids would get your AB list on a different computer is if you have a .mac account and were syncing with that computer. Of course if you have a .mac account you can place files (and maybe a AB group, I haven't tried that) in your Drop Box folder for them to access.
    Hard Drive>Users>"Home">Public>Drop Box
And yes, I think it is an "all or nothing" share from Preferences.
    Good Luck,
    John

  • Home share won't load library

I have two PC's.  One has all of my music and is running Vista.  One has no music and is running Windows 7.  I set up Home Share and it worked great for about a week.  Now I can't get the libary to load on the second PC. I can see the library, but when I click on it it says "loading" for 10-15 seconds then acts like nothing ever happened. I've tried opening ports on both computers.  The most frustrating part is when I'm on the Vista PC I can load the library for the Seven PC, which is empty, but when I'm on the Seven PC I can't load the library from the Vista PC, which is where all the music is.
