Home sharing across networks

Is there any way to enable Home Sharing with a computer on an external network? I have a mac at work that I'd love to be able to synchronize with my home computer. It's already authorized. Do I need to setup port forwarding on my router? Will it even work?

  • Home sharing across two wifi networks?

I have two wifi networks in my home and each is attached to its own cable modem. Can home sharing be used across both networks so I can see my Apple TV and my iTunes library at the same time in the remote app? Thus far, I have only been able to access them separately by switching wifi networks on my iPhone. All my devices are set up with the same Apple ID. My main computer is running Windows 7 and it is connected to network #1 via LAN and network #2 via wireless. All my speakers including Apple TV show up in the Airplay menu of iTunes. Apple TV is connected to network #2 solely for the reason that the signal is stronger.
Any ideas out there? This has been frustrating the heck out of me. Thanks in advance!

  • Home Sharing across two iTunes accounts?

Hello. My wife and I each have two separate iTunes accounts. Is it possible to configure iTunes to Home Share across both accounts? Thanks!

I think I have the same question, but when you say home saring are you talking about on an Apple TV? My wife and I have an imac with seperate profiles, each profile has an itunes account, and we want to be able to both be able to access our itunes from the apple tv.  We went under itunes and > advanced > and clicked on turn on home sharing for both accounts, we see each others libraby when logged onto other profile, but can't get the option on the Apple TV. We also went into I-tunes preferences and turned on sharing. I also beleive under the advanced option menu there is a place to share photos, (from i-photo). Hope this helps.

  • Screen sharing and home sharing makes network drop

Hi. I've upgraded to OS X Mavericks and I am having a weird network issue now. I use home sharing all the time to stream to my Apple TV and I use screensharing so I can connect from downstairs using my ipad or another computer. Every since the upgrade, If I am watching something on the Apple TV and then connect to my Macbook Pro, after a few seconds the Macbook Pro's network connection drops for a few seconds. The Apple TV loses connection to the Macbook Pro completely and my VNC app freezes for about 5-10 seconds. It eventually comes back, but this just happens over and over in a vicious cycle. Any ideas? I've tried running the Mavericks install again and fiddling with screensharing settings and VNC settings on the app, but it just seems like the two don't play well together on Mavericks. I never had any of these issues on Mountain Lion. My Macbook Pro is the late 2011 17 inch model with 16GB RAM. I also have a Belkin thunderbolt dock connected and a monitor connected to that via hdmi to mini display port. The disconnections happen whether I use the ethernet port on the Macbook or on the dock.

I've been having a similar issue since upgrading to Mavericks. I use screen sharing all the time to access my home computer from the road, but now it's hit or miss whether I can log in at all, and when I do, screen sharing eventually drops out after less than an hour.

  • First home sharing, now network problems

I can't seem to get Apple TV to work for me. I've followed the setup instructions and troubleshooting guide, but so far it has been a nightmare. I am connected via wireless router. When I first setup the Atv, the network worked fine, but I couldn't get home sharing to work. Home sharing was turned on both on my computer and on the Atv, but it did not appear in my devices in Itunes and would not register on the Atv. I checked my firewall and even temporarily disabled it to be sure, but no luck. After several reboots and a complete reinstall of Itunes 10.1, now the Atv will not even attempt to connect to the network. Even if I try to manually configure the ipaddress, it does not take on the apple TV. Tomorrow I will get another ethernet cable and try the wired approach, but seriously this thing should not be that hard to setup. I've tried everything in the user guide/troubleshooting tips and a few things that seemed to work for others in this forum (mostly pulling cables and restarting hardware/software), but I am out of ideas. Any suggestions??

Finally solved this issue for me! Turns out it was my Intego VirusBarrier X6. After my initial use of ATV2 and accessing the iTunes library on my iMac, VirusBarrier began blocking the IP address of the ATV on my iMac to prevent a perceived data flood. All I had to do was open the Anti-Vandal tab within VirusBarrier and identify the ATV's IP address as trusted. (The ATV IP address is found under Settings-->General-->Network.)

  • Can you use home sharing across continents

    Hi,
My husband is moving to the USA from the UK and we currently have our apple products connected through home share.  Going forward I wanted to understand the following
    -  can we still use home sharing as I will remain in the UK or is it better for my husband to have a separate account using USD?
    -  if my husband has a separate account - can we still share existing purchases or future purchases on our joined account or not?
    -  can we listen to music from both accounts at the same time, or will we have to log in and out to do that?
Any other tips from people who have experienced and recommendations.
    Thanks,

in iTunes on both machines turn on home sharing from the advanced menu using the same Apple ID.

  • Sharing across network

I have several computers on my home network, some mac and some pc. Can I share info and connect to other computers on the network? Or, just the ones that are mac?
Also, when I'm at work, can I access my home network to get files off my iMac? How is this done?
    Thank you,
    Gary

  • Sharing across network with Vista

iTunes on my new computer with Vista can see iTunes library on older XP machine on my family network, but no "arrow" appears next to library name, and when I select the shared library, it just disappears. I'm sure I missed something. Anyone got any insight?
    Thanks

I had the same problem, installed Bonjour on the windows computer and was able to print right away... no reboot required using the generic driver for a canon mp470 printer on the mac pro.
    Thanks!

  • Secondary drive sharing across network between 10.3.9 and 10.4.6 OS's

    4 machines, A,B,C,D.
    "A"&"B" OSX 10.3.9
    "C"&"D" OSX 10.4.6
"A" has a secondary ATA (bay B) interal drive and several firewires
    ATA manufactuer SEAGATE ST3250823AS
    FIREWIRES from lacie and smartdisk
"B" sees all drives mounted on machine "A" and can R/W
Machines "C" and "D" can only see the primary ATA drive from machine "A"
Apple support suggested checking for updated 10.4.6 firmware on non-apple supplied hard-drives (secondary ATA and firewires listed on apple store). Done. Firmware was up to date. It appears that there is a cross OS bug with sharing secondary drives.
Our options at this time appear to be:
    1) Upgrade A and B to OS 10.4.6
We have adapated custom unix based software to 10.3.9 and functionality in 10.4.6 is unknown. Since the unix package is sensitive, woudl rather not upgrade the older systems.
    2) Downgrade C and D to OS 10.3.9
    Can this even be done?
    3) Get them talking without OS changes
    This would be ideal.
Your thoughts and support are much appreciated.
    Thank you

    Hello djacouma,
How are your G5s networked? Give us a detailed description of your network...
How are A's drives shared? (NFS, AFP, FTP etc)?

No way, since you run custom unix software, upgrading to 10.46 hoping that it may work is unacceptable
Did you really get such an answer from Apple?
(Hopefully) We'll find a solution to share your drives...

  • Home Sharing Across Router

Apologies if this is in the wrong place or or answered elsewhere

In another building I have a DLINK wireless modem which is directly connected to the BT modem via an eithernet cable. I can connect to the internt wirelessley via this DLINK router but it doesn't see iTunes on the iMac.
I'd be grateful if anyone has a similar config that works and wudnt mind explaining how please
    Thank
    Paul

    Thanks Bob.
I don't want to connect across the Internet. Sorry if this wasn't clear. I want to connect to iTunes via a router which is directly connected to the BT hub. The iMac is also connected to this hub.
    Any advice appreciated.

  • Partial home sharing issue between 3 devices...

i have an old mac computer, an iPad and new macbook pro. I activated home sharing but only the music from my old computer is on the new one, so everything i bought on my iPad recently is not shared. How can I update a central library and access my ipad and old computer music so I can share all on each device?

  • Apple Remote App or Home Sharing won't work on iPhone or iPad with iTunes (Win 7)

    Hi,
After I updated my Remote App (version 4.0) on my iPhone 5 (iOS 7.0.3) and iPad-3rd generation (iOS 7.0.3) and updated my iTunes (Version 11.1.3.8) on Win 7, I no longer can get Apple Remote App to work or my Home Sharing to work with Music/Videos for shared library.
I've followed every step in troubleshooting for Remote App (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1741) with system requirements, proper iTunes settings, Home Sharing setup, Network connections, restarting the network router, and checking firewall settings.  I've also done every setp in troubleshooting for Home Sharing (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972).
I've done multiple combinations of signing out on both iDevices and iTunes with Home Sharing, turning them on in different orders, closing and re-opening the apps and iTunes, restarting the iDevices and my computer.  No matter what I do, nothing works.
I've even tried taking my computer and iDevices with me to different routers (work, home, friend's house, etc.) to see if it was a router problem, but no matter what I do it will not work.  I am looking forward to getting an Apple TV soon, but if these problems persist, the outcome of that possibility is unlikely.
Are any of you experiencing problems like this?  I could really use some help.
    Thanks for all your support.

I just ran iTunes Diagnostics (Help --> Run Diagnostics... --> "Check" Network connectivity tests).
    I found this:
    Windows Firewall is on.
iTunes is NOT enabled in Windows Firewall.
Connection attempt to Apple web site was successful.
Connection attempt to browsing iTunes Store was successful.
Connection attempt to purchasing from iTunes Store was successful.
Connection attempt to iPhone activation server was successful.
Connection attempt to firmware update server was successful.
Connection attempt to Gracenote server was successful.
I checked my Firewall settings (Windows Security Essentials) one more time, and it IS enabled for Home/Work (Private) and Public.
I think I'm going to uninstall and reinstall iTunes and see if that helps.

  • TS2972 I cannot seem to get all of my music shared across the network from my MacBook Pro to my iPad. This was not an issue a few days ago. Can anyone help?

I cannot seem to get all of my music shared across the network from my MacBook Pro to my iPad. This was not an issue a few days ago. I can see all my songs if sorted that way, but if i sort by artist, only a few of them are present. Can anyone help or have any insight?

Well I didn't think of it before, but I logged out of my apple ID othe iPad's home sharing. The I logged back in and it worked. It's a little weird, but I will take it. Thanks!

  • Trouble sharing songs across network

I'm trying to share songs on two PCs on the same network. I've enabled sharing on both PCs (Edit menu -> Preferences -> Sharing tab -> click "Look for shared libraries" and "Share my library on my local network" buttons). Unfortunately, neither PC is able to see the other shared library.
What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Well, I guess it's "regular" sharing, and not "Home Sharing."  Tricky.  I do see that the checkbox says "Home sharing computers and devices update play counts," but it's on the same screen under the regular sharing options.  Very confusing I think.
Soooo.  I didn't think I wanted Home Sharing because the description seemed to indicate that it was for copying songs across pc's on your home network, and specifically seems to indicate that it is only for songs purchased through iTunes.  I really don't necessarily need songs copied to both of my pc's, and I certainly wouldn't want only iTunes purchases copied.  So am I understanding this right?  Does Home Sharing only copy iTunes purchased songs?
