Home sharing - album artwork repeating

I am home sharing to play music in my itunes library through my iphone 4S, although i notice when scrolling through the albums, every 10 albums the album artwork repeats itself thus showing the completely wrong artwork for the majority of albums.  Why is this and how can I fix it.
If I view albums through the remote app it does not have the same issue.

  • Sharing album artwork with fast user switching and soft links

We have 4 users, 4 iPods, 4 sets of playlists. Each has their own account. All the music lives on an external drive and each iTunes is set to store its music in the same shared folder. That all works fine.
Now we're getting into album artwork, and I want to share that too. I found a posting somewhere that suggested a soft link from /Users/Me/Music/iTunes/Album Artwork -> /Volumes/BigDrive/iTunes Artwork. I did that with one user and it worked fine - copied Album Artwork folder and set soft link and voila, all the art. I also set all permissions to allow r/w from everyone.
But when I set the soft link from 2nd user, iTunes shows no art. I can browse all the art files fine from that users Finder.
    Thanks for any help!

And just like that I may have found the solution! IT suddenly occured to me that one of the settings that got changed when we imported my wife's profile was a change to the sleep settings. Previously, I had had my iMac set to never go to sleep, since it shares our media with the rest of the house and runs eyeTV to record TV shows and such. For a little while after my wife's account was imported the settings to changes so that the computer would go to sleep after 15 minutes. I'm not totally sure why, but I think having that set up somehow meant that when we switched accounts my other account just "went to sleep" and therefore stopped sharing the iTunes library. After I noticed the change and switched the computer back to "never" for sleep the problem seems to have stopped.
So perhaps check your sleep settings? That seems to be the only change I can think of that got things working correclty for me. I'll keep digging though and see if I can find any more helpful info. Good luck!

  • How do I sync so that album art work in one library is copied over to another via home-sharing? Most of the artwork has been scanned and added by me.

I have three computers, each with its own iTunes Library, but if I add material to one, every few days I make sure that it's copied over to the others via homesharing.  However, some of the metadata does not transfer, specifically the album art work.  So on one library, call it my Home Library, everything is nice and tidy, with album artwork where it should be.  On the other two, all the albums I've painstakingly made sure are complete on the home library are missing the art work.
Any thoughts?  Tune Ranger and other iTunes maintenance apps don't seem to do the job, either. Coverscout, PowerTunes and Song Sargent also fail this task.

My understanding it iTunes handles artwork several ways.  First, iTunes keeps a copy of all artwork in its artwork folder.  Second, artwork can optionally be embedded in a media file.  You can, for example, have an album where no artwork is actually in the files but all use a reference copy in the artwork folder.  Even if a file has artwork embedded it may still use the version in the artwork folder.
Embedded artwork travels with the file when you copy the file.
I am hazy as to when exactly iTunes will embed artwork and when it won't.  I believe, for example, if you use iTunes to fetch artwork it will not embed it, it will just place a copy in the artwork folder.  Then too I never use iTunes to fetch artwork and I usually end up with artwork embedded in a file or two per LP (each embedded copy uses up more disk space).  Now, I still use iTunes 7.5 and new versions may not behave exactly the same.  If it was my version and I added artwork to a file it would embed it and it would transfer.  It sounds like your artwork isn't embedded even if you are adding it the same way I would (I drag mine to the little arwork display box in the bottom left corner of my window, which apparently has vanished completely in iTunes 11).
You could try this for a file:
Script for embedding artwork - http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=embedart
Just remember embedding artwork adds to each file size, so if you have 1000 files and you add 2 MB of high quality scans to each track you are taking up 2 GB more of drive space.

  • TS2972 I have set up sharing on my three computers and when I hit the Library pop up button on the top left of my computer I don't see anything but "turn off home sharing" and "get album artwork"

I can't seem to get sharing set up. I set up my wife's iMac and I use a PC. When I click on the Library tab at the top right, I don't get the option of seeing the music library on her iMac.

Both libraries would need to have been setup to use home sharing with the same Apple ID in order for that to work.

  • Why aren't all albums listed under albums in my phone's Music app (home sharing)

I'm using home sharing to listen to music on my iPhone 4S.  I can access the shared library no problem, but when I go to the Album list, not all albums are there.  Everything that I've recently ripped is there but only 9 out of ~40 albums that I imported to the library (vs ripping) are listed.  If I want to access that music, I can search under Artist.
I checked out the Info on albums that are listed vs those that aren't and I can't see a difference - they both have Artist & Album listed under the Info & Sorting tabs.
The main iTunes install that is doing the sharing is on a Windows 7 laptop; all the devices accessing the home share are either iOS or OS X.

    Search pointed me here.
I have the same issue with an iPad3.
My iPad3, fully up to date will only show 8 albums from a home share and frequently misses all or some of the album art work.
Music served by latest iTunes on 10.8.2. Other devices like iPhones and older iPads list all the albums and album artwork without issue.
Did the log out and back in  of home sharing step last night. Fixed it once and then no new albums were showing (converted a few more cds) and this morning I'm back to 8 albums according to iPad3.
iPhone 4 ... it is all there, instantly, never needed to log out ordoanything ...
Quite puzzling. All devices are up to date. Presumably the app would be the same for all IOS devices apart from layout.
It is strange also how it picks 8. It is not like they were the first or last ones added. Or alphabetically first or last by artist or album name. It spans dozens of albums.

  • How to properly embed album art work into TV/Films itunes: home sharing lag

My setup is a simple apple home sharing network.
I have a mac mini running OS X 10.6.8 and itunes 11.0.4(4) it hosts a lot of music, DVD's that have been re-encoded and paid for content from itunes.
The mac mini is conntected to the network over a very good gigbit lan and has 4 apple TV3 (latest gen) hanging off the network, and multiple PC/Mac/ipod/ipad devices hanging off the network.
I connect to the itunes home sharing service with the apple TV service using the "remote" application on the ipad.
When I select Music/Albums TV Shows or Films from the menu of the itunes library the album art work loads (quickly) over the grey boxes as I scroll down. However this takes a few seconds for each "scroll" I do on the ipad (it has thousands of items in there).
The exception to the rule is any paid content, when I open Music/TV/Films menu on the ipad the paid content (especially for TV and Films) the artwork is already there, and doesn't have to load it.
How is the artwork for paid content contained differently than the artwork for content I've manually put into the itunes library.
If I look at the itunes library locally on the machine hosting the itunes data, the artwork is there straightaway, no loading, pull up the items info with "get info" and click on art work, the artwork is there, and I can see no different in the art work settings for paid content or for content I've manually updated/loaded an image for.
So why/how does the paid for content have artwork on the ipad the exact second I open it over the network, yet the non-paid for content take a few seconds per screen to load it.
Is there something different in how the art work is embeeded, or is it a caching setting ? whats the difference.

    Dang You Autocorrect.
You don't saw what size and resolution the embedded artwork is. This could be part of the issue. Artwork on movies you purchase from the iTunes Store is 667x1000 at 72 DPI so if yours is larger than this is could be causing the delay.

  • Is it possible to show the album artwork on a shared itunes library

I use itunes in my home and office environments. I store all the content on a server and use the shared library to play it back on my stereo in a different room - or on my laptop in the office using the library on the office 'music server'. It seems to be a more reliable way of accessing the library than mapping the server as a network drive. However, it is still a streaming connection - would it not be more network/CPU efficient to transfer complete files or file chunks?
Anyway - my question is about album artwork - when operating in shared mode like this, a sharing user (my main player connected to my stereo) doesn't display all the nice artwork that itunes has downloaded to the library.
Is there a way to do this?

If you mean the Map Module display, the only way to make use of that outside of Lightroom is to do a screen capture and then use the screen capture.

  • Why can't I get album LPs through home sharing to my other computer?

When you go to such a place you need to do two things:
Settings > WiFI ... select the place's network and enter the password.
Generally (not every time, but very frequently), the place will have a "Terms and Conditions" you must agree to in order to use their WiFi.  Those Terms and Conditions will appear either once you enter the WiFi password, or as soon as you open Safari.  Let them appear and agree to them.

  • I purchased an album from the itunes store on my ipad2 thinking i could retrieve it from my windows pc. I have turned on home sharing and can see my pc library from the ipad but not vice-versa. Is there any way to transfer the album from my ipad library?

I purchased an album from the itunes store on my Ipad2 thinking i could access it from my windows laptop where I sync my ipod. I turned on Home Sharing and can see my laptop libraries from my ipad but not vice versa. Is there any way to fix this so I can transfer the album to the itunes on my laptop?

Yes I tried that. I finally turned off all home sharing settings, shut down my desktop and found them in my account settings in the store on the cloud. So at that point I just had it download everything. But I suspect that with the ipad somehow being on, the store was saying I had already received them? Regardless, my trip today whilst running errands, I was rocking out to vintage Police music! Thank you so much for responding.

  • I'm using home sharing But not all albums or artists show up as they do on my computer in itunes

I'm using home sharing with iTunes but not all artists or albums show up as they appear on the computer I'm looking at

Sure, but if I have International League Pass shouldn't there be a way to tap into that? I mean, if I can watch it on my computer, why can't I conveniently watch it on the television sitting right next to it via Apple TV. Seems odd...

Are you watching this content though iCloud or though from iTunes on your local computer?  If it is from iCloud have you tried downloading the content to iTunes and watching it on ATV from that source to see if it still happens?  This is geerally a much more reliable way to view the content.  Easer to fast forward and rewind too.
    - I have a stable internet connection
    Clearlly you don't
    >(Ive tested on other devices)
Which does not tell you anything about the specific connnection from ATV to iCloud.

Again which does not tell you anything about the specific connnection from ATV to iCloud.  It does remove your ISP throattly traffice as a possible cause though.  So that is good.
Have you checked your wireless rounter?  Tried doing the factory restor on it?  Upgrading it's firmware?  Is it and or ATV getting extreamly hot when this problme happens?

  • How to hide kids albums with home sharing on

I have 3 teenage kids and have home sharing turned on. How do I hide their albums in my iTunes and on my iPhone/iPad?

Your best bet is to clone both devices onto two separate drives, or together onto a larger external hard drive that can cover the capacity of both with its own separate partitions.  http://www.bombich.com/ Carbon Copy Cloner is able to do that for you.  Test your clone boots and is mapped correctly before erasing the drive in question.

  • Home Sharing-Copying Album in new iTunes

My husband and I each have our own PC running windows 7.
We have the latest version of iTunes installed on each one.
In previous versions it was easy to copy an album or song from each other as we have Home Sharing set up.
I can remember dragging and dropping and cutting and pasting, but in this new version I'm lost as to how I do it.
    Please can anyone help??

    Hi ruffordjane,

Use Home Sharing to import items from another iTunes library
You can use Home Sharing to import items from up to five iTunes libraries on other computers. To use Home Sharing, you must have an Apple ID.
Any time you download an item from the iTunes Store to a computer in your Home Sharing network, you can have the item automatically downloaded to the other computers in the network as well.
    Turn on Home Sharing
Follow these steps on each computer you want to include in your Home Sharing network.
Choose File > Home Sharing > Turn On Home Sharing.
Type your Apple ID and password, and click Turn On Home Sharing.
If you don’t have an Apple ID, click “Don’t have an Apple ID?” and follow the onscreen instructions.
Import items from other libraries using Home Sharing
Click the Sharing button near the top left of the iTunes window, and choose a library from the pop-up menu.
Click the button for the type of content you want to import (Music, for example) near the top left of the window.
Click the Show pop-up menu at the bottom of the iTunes window and choose “Items not in my library.”
Select the items you want to import, and click Import.
Automatically import new iTunes Store purchases from another computer
Click the Sharing button near the top left of the iTunes window, and choose a library from the pop-up menu.
Click the button for the type of content you want to import (Music, for example) near the top left of the window.
Click Settings at the bottom of the window.
In the window that appears, select the types of items you want to automatically import.
    Click OK.
    Turn off Home Sharing
On each computer, choose File > Home Sharing > Turn Off Home Sharing.
Tip: If a shared computer doesn’t appear when Home Sharing is on, turn Home Sharing off, and then turn it on again.

  • Playing shared music, some album artwork is missing

Rather than copy my iTunes library to my Apple TV, I just use the "Shared" feature. But when playing music shared from my Mac, sometimes the Apple TV doesn't display album artwork (i.e., I get the generic album outline with notes in it) for albums that have artwork in my iTunes library. Some of these are even songs purchased from iTunes. The connection is via a wired gigabit network. Any ideas why the artwork doesn't show up?

Personally I think it's a software glitch that doesn't update teh artwork properly.
One of the recent iTunes updates lost a load of artwork for me too - things not purchased from the store but recently imported. I somehow feel iTunes is getting a bit too big and bloated with all the different things it has to support.
