Home sharing connection temporary

After restoring and restarting and resetting (including router reboot) my home sharing lasts only temporary. Sometimes an hour but most time less. I guess I'm just used to Apple being easy. This is not. Maybe an easy fix but I am perplexed. All devices are signed on fo home sharing.
Time Capsule, MacBook Pro, iPad 1,iPad 2, iPhone 4s,apple tv
Please help I'm melting!

Jamster: thanks so much for your kind assistance.  Unfortunately, I tried looking at the firewall settings document before posting, and I found that the firewall settings recommended do not correspond to the fields or the number of digits in the fields I could locate in my firewall settings for my computer, my router and my anti-virus software.  Accordingly, I could not determine if my settings were correct or incorrect.  In addition, the router settings window contained a warning not to alter any of the settings.
Fortunately, I found that there was a software update for the AppleTV device that I had not been notified about and had not downloaded.  After downloading the update, home sharing seems to work for me.  Unfortunately, contacting Apple was not productive, as they would not provide any help unless I paid for it.  They also claimed falsely that I had not downloaded any software updates for the product since it had been purchased.  I find it odd that Apple claimed it has no responsibility to provide support for problems that occur from the time the product package is opened, if the 90-day free service period has passed.  Interesting way to do business.

  • Apple TV Loses Home Sharing Connects Repeatedly

Looking for help here. My AppleTV routinely loose connectivity to my Mac Mini server and display the following message "To access your iTunes library on Apple TV, turn on Home Sharing in iTunes on your computer using <my Apple ID>". Usually rebooting the AppleTV will get home sharing working again.
Here is my below setup which worked without problems for about 1.5 years until late last fall. All devices are hard wired at GE speed. The Mac Mini is plugged into an Airport Extreme 7.7.3.
Mac Mini Server running iTunes 11.4, OSX 10.9.5
Apple TV 3rd Gen OS (7.0.2) I have three of these.
Very reluctant to move to Yosemite as I have heard about even more problems with AppleTV. My thoughts are that the Apples crappy bonjour protocol stack times out and loses connectivity between the AppleTV and the server. I have validated that while the AppleTV says it cannot find the home server I can still ping the AppleTV from my macmini.
    Thoughts, help?

I have the same problem, running iTunes from a MacBook pro with Yosemite. Also started late last year, after many years without a problem - now I pretty much have to restart the Apple TV each time I want to watch local content. Anyone else, any ideas?

  • Why Apple Tv 2 drop Home Sharing connection after few minutes?

I just installed an Apple TV 2. Internet connection applications as Apple Store, Youtbe, etc work very well but it drops Library`s communication just after a few minutes. I`m running files like music that are in the library in a PC with Windows Vista.
I`ve been reading other discussions and have done every thing that was suggested as:
    - setting Static IP address
    - have set Firewall with the ports are supposed to open
    - have set Port Forwarding on the router (a Linksys WRT54GS)
    - have updated Network Card driver
    - have updated router firmware
    - turned off sleepling mode and screen saver
    - restored Apple TV 2
    - reset router
    - installed last Itunes version
All that and possibily other things that I do not remember right now but still looseingconnection to the Library after a few minutes. I have realized first time I put a slide show of pictures with music background and the music always stops after the second music. After that you just see the message that you need to turn on the Library related to my Apple ID.
Today I did a test with a home sharing with another computer I have that runs Windows 7 and guess what: the Home Sharing worked fine!
So, my conclusion is that there is some flaw on Home Sharing when running Itunes in Windows Vista or specificly with this computer running the Windows Vista.
I have done a research and have not found anything else. So, could anyone have a hint of what is going on?
    Thanks,
    Ricardo

Yesterday were released the IOS 5.1 and the Itunes 10.6. I thought that updating the IOS on the Apple TV 2 and the Itunes on PC, my problems would go away. I did that but for my surprise it has NOT.
Then I had a recall that I have read somewhere a while ago about issues with the AVAST Anti-Virus and Home Sharing, that can generate connectivity issues,
In one of my first temptatives to resolve this issue I have stopped the AVAST and I still had the problem, so I left this trail of solution. But since nothing was working I decided to uninstall it. I was a little skeptical about it but gave a shoot.
To my surprise, when I uninstalled it, booted the computer and did the Home Sharing, the problem was FIXED!
That made total sense because the other computer that runs Windows 7 and I have tested before, worked fine, it runs AVIRA as Anit-Virus software.
So my conclusion is that, on my case, the AVAST caused the issue and to stop its service was not enough to diagnose the issue. I had to uninstall it, believe or not. And that the issue has nothing to do with Windows Vista OS but with AVAST.
After that, I uninstall AVIRA as Anti Virus software and, since that, the Library and Home Sharing (24 h ago) is working perfectly and I think that will stay.

  • Apple TV dropping home sharing connection

Previous setuo with my Mac mini and Apple TV 3rd gen was fine, wired network connection.
New setup with MB Pro is wireless connection, ATV keeps dropping Home Sharing. Both on same network.
iTunes is up to date and so is ATV. I have to log out of iTunes Home Sharing, log in and then sometimes
have to restart ATV. Not sure what is going on. I have MBP set not to go to sleep and to wake on wifi.
    Very frustrating.

  • IPhone when 'sleeping' loses Home Sharing connection to PC iTunes

This is something I found interesting....
I have a PC with iTunes and all my media (songs, movies, TV Shows) and a MacBook with it's own library of Apps.
I turn home sharing on both computers, and then from the iPhone 4 (after setting up Home Sharing of course) I can see both Libraries... all is good. But if the iPhone goes into sleep mode, after waking it up and going back into the iPod app, only the MacBook's library appears.
to get the library to re-appear I have to disconnect from the wi-fi and re-connect and all is well, till the phone goes to sleep again.
This behavior is the same on my wife's iPhone 3GS as well.
    Odd...

As odd as this sounds. I ran a registry cleaner (RegCure), and ever since then, it's been pretty solid with the home sharing availability. Never cuts out, and it's been like this for days now. Not sure if it had something to do with it, but it's interesting to say the least.

  • Apple TV 3 home sharing connection issue.

Every time I turn my Apple TV on it is unable to connect to the iTunes library on my computer. My computer is on the same wireless network with iTunes open. The only way I can get it to reconnect is to turn off home sharing on the Apple TV and then turn it back on again. It is then able to reconnect.
I am running the latest software version on the ATV.

For me, it looks more and more a problem with my iMac waking up from sleep and not so much a problem with the Apple TV.
With Snow Leopard wireless wake on lan was working. With Mountain Lion, this is not working anymore. I tried several things (restart Airport Extreme, SMC en PRAM reset, configuring WiFi connection again, ...) but I can't get wireless wake on lan to work. And because my iMac won't wake up from sleep, the Apple TV can't reach the iTunes library.
I have the same problem when I start the Remote app on my iPhone: because the iMac is sleeping, it can't reach the iTunes library. When I go upstairs and wake my iMac, Remote can access the library.

  • Apple TV Home Sharing Connection Problem .

I have been given an Apple Tv by a friend who has upgraded. However I cannot connect to Home Sharing because I am asked to log in using his ID which does not match my Apple account details. How do I correct this? Grateful for advice.

Try "Settings","General", "Reset". It will take about 5 minutes all up. When done, it will for ask all your details for setting up. Don't forget to check the region setting for your area.
    Good luck

  • Apple tv 2 dropping home sharing connection

I have physically connected my apple tv 2nd generation to the same router that my mac and airport extreme are on even after updating.  While watching music videos on apple tv I loose my connection and tells me to turn on home sharing.  all ports 3689 5353 and 123 are allowed.  I can't figure out why the connection is dropping.  Any idea's?

Afe people have reported this problem. I don't recall seeing a solution. However, restart all of your devices and login and out of homesharing on the ATV and computer.
Also submit a bug report to Apple via the Apple tv feedback page. You can find it simply by googling Apple TV feedback

  • Losing Home Sharing connection on Apple TV when Mac goes to sleep

Just got the 2nd gen Apple TV all setup with home sharing to my Mac Mini library with all the wake on sleep options activated in OSX as well as the latest Airport Extreme router. However, when my Mini goes to sleep, the AppleTV eventually loses the connection and I have to physically wake up the Mac to get the library back (it's in a different room of course). If I connect via my laptop, iTunes still shows the Mini still active like it should (ie. everything is setup correctly and it wakes up when accessing the library)), but it looks like the AppleTV implementation isn't doing the same (perhaps Apple can fix this in an update). Has anyone else successfully been able to access the home sharing library once the Mac goes to sleep? I'd hate to have my Mac on all the time and thought the whole purpose of the new Airport Extreme and wake on LAN options in 10.6 Snow Leopard was to be able to do this. Any suggestions or tips? Thanks

I have a similar but slightly different problem. My Mac never goes to sleep so that's not my problem. My problem is that I sometimes work from home over a secure VPN connection. While logged into the VPN the Apple TV cannot see the iTunes server, which is behavior I expect. But when I log out of the VPN network the Apple TV will still not see the iTunes server. I have to turn off home sharing, and turn it back on. Or quit iTunes and start it back up. Then the Apple TV will see the library. I think my issue and your issue have the same root cause.

  • Itunes home sharing connection limit

I am planning to setup over 60 iPads and have planned to setup Home Sharing through iTunes so the iPads can access information from iTunes. Is there a connection limit to connect to a iTunes Home Share?

I found in this forum that the update of router firmware would resolve the problem. It's right. Thankyou.

  • TS2972 No files in home sharing connection

Hello. Home sharing easely establish between from iMac to iPad but i can see no music files or videos. Sharing prefrences on iTunes are setted to "ALL". Thank you!

What library seems to be empty? You don't see the Mac library on the iPad? Do you have any songs at all in the Music App on your iPad? I think that you have to have at least one song in the music app or the iPad will not see your Mac shared library.
If I am reading your response correctly and you do not have any songs at all in the Music app, download or drag one song over from iTunes and then see of the shared library is visible.
And you are tapping the More Button at the bottom of the Music App in order to access the shared library - correct?
