Home Sharing-Copying Album in new iTunes

My husband and I each have our own PC running windows 7.
We have the latest version of iTunes installed on each one.
In previous versions it was easy to copy an album or song from each other as we have Home Sharing set up.
I can remember dragging and dropping and cutting and pasting, but in this new version I'm lost as to how I do it.
Please can anyone help??

Hi ruffordjane,
Happy Holidays!  To answer your question about how to use Home Sharing with the new iTunes 12, I've included the section from the online help manual for you below:
Use Home Sharing to import items from another iTunes library - iTunes Help
http://help.apple.com/itunes/mac/12/#/itns56cd6f5
Use Home Sharing to import items from another iTunes library
You can use Home Sharing to import items from up to five iTunes libraries on other computers. To use Home Sharing, you must have an Apple ID.
Any time you download an item from the iTunes Store to a computer in your Home Sharing network, you can have the item automatically downloaded to the other computers in the network as well.
Turn on Home Sharing
Follow these steps on each computer you want to include in your Home Sharing network.
Choose File > Home Sharing > Turn On Home Sharing.
Type your Apple ID and password, and click Turn On Home Sharing.
If you don’t have an Apple ID, click “Don’t have an Apple ID?” and follow the onscreen instructions.
Import items from other libraries using Home Sharing
Click the Sharing button near the top left of the iTunes window, and choose a library from the pop-up menu.
Click the button for the type of content you want to import (Music, for example) near the top left of the window.
Click the Show pop-up menu at the bottom of the iTunes window and choose “Items not in my library.”
Select the items you want to import, and click Import.
Automatically import new iTunes Store purchases from another computer
Click the Sharing button near the top left of the iTunes window, and choose a library from the pop-up menu.
Click the button for the type of content you want to import (Music, for example) near the top left of the window.
Click Settings at the bottom of the window.
In the window that appears, select the types of items you want to automatically import.
Click OK.
Turn off Home Sharing
On each computer, choose File > Home Sharing > Turn Off Home Sharing.
Tip: If a shared computer doesn’t appear when Home Sharing is on, turn Home Sharing off, and then turn it on again.

  • Home sharing problem with music between iTunes and Apple TV

    iTunes 10.5.2.11
    Apple TV2 running 4.4.4 (3330)
    Windows 7 pc
    WI FI connection
Apple TV is losing its connection to iTunes on my windows 7 pc after streaming EXACTLY TWO SONGS.   I've never had this problem until the last update of iTunes to 10.5.2.11 and Apple TV 4.4.4.  Home sharing is on in both iTunes and apple TV.  I launch my computer from apple TV and open the music folders, select an album/playlist or even shuffle (doesn't matter what I do).  Apple TV will play two songs and then lose its home sharing connection to my iTunes songs.  TheBuffering icon continues to spin as it looks for the next song on the playlist, but the \song never starts playing.  If I sue the apple TV remote to return to the main menu, it is apparent that my computer is no longer visible to apple tv.
The only temporary "fix" (which again only works for EXACTLY TWO SONGS) is to re-start home sharing on my pc or apple tv.   Obviously, you can't listen to music by continuously turning on/off home sharing on eiter device.  Doesn't matter which device I choose to restart home Sharing.
I've spent considerable time troubleshooting this issue.  It is NOT a router issue, nor is it a signal quality issue.  I'm able to stream feature-length movies from iTunes to apple TV without issue.  It's only music files.  The cynic in me thinks its apple wanting me to spend $25 to put my music in its iCloud service.
Other troubleshooting that I've tried.  None successful.
    Uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes.
Tried a fresh install of iTunes on a brand new windows 7 maching
    Restored my apple TV.
    disconnected / re-connected outlook.

bump to Apple.  Many people are having this issue and no fix yet!

  • Home sharing does not work with iTunes 12

I have been using home sharing with iTunes a lot, mainly to stream TV shows from my Mac Pro (2008) to my Apple TV (3rd Gen). But after installing Yosemite and iTunes 12 it doesn't work any longer. My Apple TV finds the iTunes Library, but can't connect with it. At the same time home sharing worked just fine with my iPhone 5 and iPad 2 (iOS 8.0.2). After installing iOS 8.1 home sharing with my iOS devices doesn't work, too – same problem as with Apple TV: iTunes library is found but devices can't connect with it.
I already tried to solve the problem with the suggestions on Apples troubleshooting page:  Fehlerbehebungsmaßnahmen für die Privatfreigabe
    My setup:
Mac Pro (2008) with OS X 10.10 (14A389), iTunes 12.0.1.26, connected via Ethernet and WiFi
    Router: Fritz!Box Fon WLAN 7270
    iPhone 5 with iOS 8.1
    iPad 2 with 8.1
Apple TV (3rd Gen), newest software update, connected via Ethernet
Any ideas, what the reason for that problem could be and how to solve it?
    Thanks a lot in advance.
BTW: Sorry for my English. I am not a native speaker.
    Greetings from Germany

I had the same problem after updating to iTunes 12 and using my iPhone 6.
I have solved it by doing these simple steps:
    1. Turn off Home Sharing in iTunes. Close it.
    2. In your iOS 8 device, Turn on Home Sharing: Settings/Music/Home Sharing
    3. Open back iTunes
It looks like in one of the updates, possibly iOS 8.1, had signed off Home Sharing completely.

  • Used ipod as a drive to copy songs into new itunes on new computer. Some songs do play in entirety, las minute cuts off with nothing plyaing, or it suddenly starts playing a different song. "TIme" shown is correct in the file.

Used ipod as a drive to copy songs into new itunes on new computer. Some songs do play in entirety, last 30 seconds to minute cuts off with nothing plyaing, or it suddenly starts playing a different song. "TIme" shown is correct in the file. Any way to fix this?

I copied the iTunes file from the external drive and it's in both places.  I thought all I would need is the iTunes program (which I downloaded to new computer) and my iTunes library file.  There must be something else that's missing.  My iTunes library looks the same on the new computer as it does when I open it on the external drive.  If I click on an iTunes library song from my new computer, it will only play if I have the external drive plugged in.
My back-up drive is a mess.  I have multiple copies of music, video, photo, and document files and I don't know how that happened. ={  Obviously, I don't know how to back up stuff properly and there are back-up files extending over a 6- to 8-year period.  I think all I did was just drag and drop the main folders from the back-up drive to the same main folders on the C: drive.  Also (and I'm kind of fuzzy on this) Windows used to automatically save music files in a folder within my document files (which makes no sense to me).  As my Jewish friends would say, "Oy Vey!"

  • Itunes Home Sharing xfer old to new NOT New to old

to the previous message... Im trying to transfer music from my old computer to the new one through home sharing in itunes.. however the itunes library only recongized my new computer music to transfer to my old computer instead of vice versa.

I'm getting a MacBook pro for college and just wondered how to transfer/share everything from my desktop pc to my Mac?

home sharing will work but won't transfer playcounts, ratings, and original "date added".

  • Home sharing does not work in iTunes 9??

I have spent hours going through this and conclude there must be something up with home sharing in the latest iTunes - I had no problem with it previously.
I have everything checked that should be checked, my iMac and MacBook are on the same local wireless connection and it's fully functional. I can manually transfer files if I want.
File sharing is on, home sharing is on in iTunes and "share entire library". "Look for shared libraries" and "share libraries on local network" is checked in both computers. I am logged into the iTunes store on both computers.
But there is no shared list in either machine, and in iTunes > Preferences it says "No users connected" - even though both computers are connected to the network. And it makes no difference if I log in to one or both computers and mount the volumes or not. Nothing will make it work. Rebooting, quitting iTunes, switching home sharing off and then on again, clearing out all my old passwords in Keychain... nothing. Any suggestions welcome.

    HALLELULAH!
Well thanks to everyone that tried to help with this. I can't believe it has taken me two whole weekends to sort this out. And yes I did go to my local Apple store but they said that everything I had already done was what they would have suggested - they were interested to know as well.
Pretty sure this is not any fault with iTunes. What I had to do, finally, was completely wipe the HD of my MacBook, clean install the original software, register it, update it, reinstall all the other software I needm register and update it, reset iSynch, Mobile Me etc. etc. Finally, after everything else was done (about 12 hours work), I imported all my music and playlists into iTunes, fired it up - and the Home Sharing worked straight away first time!!!!!
Peculiar thing is that in iTunes > Preferences > Sharing at the bottom of the window, it still says "Status: no users connected" on both computers". Even though the Home Sharing is on and running and the shared libraries are all visible and working. Unless that's something to do with password settings, I don't know (I don't use any password setting on iTunes sharing as it just "I, me and myself"). But I don't care, IT WORKS!!!
Along the way I also reset my router a couple of times, but I think the route of the problem (no pun intended) was not that. What I would definitely very strongly recommend to anyone is, whatever you do, don't use Migration Manager to copy all of the stuff on your desktop computer onto your laptop (which is what I did a week ago after installing a new drive and more ram so I can run Logic Studion on the MacBook). Doing that caused the most incredible problems, of which Home Sharing turned out to be the least. All kinds of weird stuff was going on and the MacBook became increasingly degraded in performance, the network was going nuts, until I was forced to take the drastic steps above. The solution was to start again (NOT with Migration Manager) installing everything from DVD or manually dragging it across item by item, registering and updating... hence the ludicrous amount of tme I have just spent on this.
    It's great when it works

  • IPhone Home Sharing Music not showing in iTunes

    Hi All,
I have successfully set up Home Sharing on two separate iPhones using the same Apple ID and on my MacBook Air iTunes.  I can view and play the Air's music library on both of the iPhones.  However, in iTunes on the MacBook Air, the iPhones are not showing up under Shared.  Actually, the "Shared" category is not showing up at all.  Is there some reason the iPhone music libraries are not on the iTunes on the MacBook Air.  How can I fix this?
    Recap:
Home sharing set up on 2 iPhone and on laptop
iPhone can play laptop music as shared
iTunes on laptop does not show iPhone music libraries
iTunes on laptop does not show "Shared" at all.
    Thanks!

Installing iTunes and logging in with an Apple ID has never caused content to magically appear.
The content is only where you put it.
Copy it from the old computer or the backup of the old computer to the new computer.

  • Will Home Sharing content remain on new computer when I throw out the old?

I'm dumping my old PC that I originally had my iTunes on, but before I do that, I want to double that that wiping that computer will not have an impact on the iTunes on my MacBook Air (which received my iTunes content from the PC via Home Sharing.)
    Thanks!
    Travis

I wouldn't use Home Sharing for this. These are two possible approaches that should work.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase are reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
