Home sharing crashes.

I have had an issue with Home Sharing dropping out while playing music. This only started with the last iTunes update 10.6 (40) 64bit. Before that I was able to play music all day with no drops. The one thing I noticed, the song tries to load and you will see the song replay loop icon suddenly display dots, instead of the normal loop icon. The iTunes program then crashes.
Note: I do not have the replay loop selected (blue) to play back. I do have the play random selected (blue).
Also note, the crashes do not happen at the same point, or number of songs. When it crashes I can restart and play the song that had crashed with no problems.
I have this issue on both my iPhone 4s, iPad 2. Both are running the latest iTunes software as well as my MacBook Pro.

Check if you have firewalls disabled on your PC.

  • Windows Visa - iTunes 10 Home Sharing Crash Fix?

Just recently I turned on Home Sharing in iTunes 10.1 running Windows Vista 32 Bit and immediately I got the Blue Screen of Death crash. I've excluded iTunes from the Windows Security Essential firewall, re-installed iTunes, and done a virus scan without fixing the problem. iTunes crashes before I can get back in and turn off Home Sharing. With Home Sharing off it doesn't crash. My Windows Vista is up to date, and I have not added any new software. Any ideas?

Well friends, my new Intel network card came today. While I was waiting I uninstalled the Bluetooth software and tried Home Sharing - still crashed. It will be hard to uninstall the Bluetooth card as the memory card readers appear to be on the same device. I installed the Intel NIC, and removed all the Broadcomm software. The Broadcomm card is integral to the motherboard, so I followed the Dell instructions to turn it off in System Setup. So eager to see Home Sharing work, I opened iTunes and turned it on and got the Blue Screen again. This time it appears the system cannot load the intel driver:
Unable to load image e1q6032.sys, Win32 error 0n2
    * WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for e1q6032.sys
    * ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for e1q6032.sys
(the entire WinDBG report is below.)
Thus, it appears that there is something about this machine that will not process th NIC drivers with iTunes Home Sharing. I have a friend who is a Microsoft Certified engineer and a Networking specialist, I'm going to have him take a look at this machine. Otherwise, I think we have done just about everything that can be done. I appreciate everyone's help, and i wish all of you a Merry Christmas and very Hapy New Year - or whatever you celebrate this time of year.

  • Home sharing crash itunes 10.5.0.142 on win7 pro service pack 1 64-bit

8 GByte RAM, Intel i7 CPU, flash hard drive (256 GB) with files stored on Ethernet shared file server (2 TB)
    per bottom of iTunes window:
    16-17k podcasts, 354 GB
    9800 songs, 80 GB
    34 movies, 110 GB
    17 tv shows, 114 GB
    5 iTunes U, 0.9 GB
    26 books, 5.2 GB
    14 apps
iTunes runs until I try to view a (DSL-downloaded) TV show. The wifi apple tv stops playing a minute in, give or take. The apple tv also stops listing the computer in the top-level user interface.
    iTunes on the PC crashed.
There was a while where home sharing didn't work. Then it worked (fixed in a software update or apple infrastructure, as other postings indicate). Now, with the most recent update, it looks like a bug has been introduced into iTunes.

Home sharing no longer crashes, but it also does not work:
google searches provide example lore, such as found in apple's own:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972
set up home sharing on devices; toggle home sharing off/on on devices
No, this is not a fix. Neither makes progress.
use latest software on all devices (iTouch, two apple tvs, win7 itunes)
No, this is not a fix. All devices are up to the latest software.
As an example, 4.4.2 (3160) didn't work, and neither did 4.4.3 (3323) for the apple tvs.
    Check apple id used
No, this is not a fix. All devices use the same apple id, tested by viewing items and by purchasing items in the store.
    Check your network.
Home sharing used to work. Nevertheless, transitioned from wifi-based apple tv and Ethernet star network off home router to: Ethernet based apple tv; Ethernet switched connectivity via Linksys 5-port GbE switches, with home router only needed for wifi hop or DSL to Internet. No improvement. Also transitioned from DHCP to static IP addresses. No improvement. This layer-2 focus avoids issues such as layer-3 IP TTL values for multicast, were the home router to switch at layer-3 rather than layer-2 among local devices (note that it all worked with original flows through home router, so this is just proof of expected FUD). All cables are CAT6, not 10/100 cat5, nor simply cat5e.
    Check firewall settings
disabling the firewall does nothing (win7, all cases, home or work and public network cases)
Neither does the more-detailed manipulation of rules for inbound and outbound traffic for TCP (3689) and UDP (5353) when the firewall is enabled. (Disabling the firewall is clearer proof that the rules are not the issue.) Bonjour (mDNS) should get through just fine.
    Quit and re-open apps
    Not a fix
    Power cycling
Not a fix. All gear has been power cycled (apple tvs, laptop with itunes, router, etc).
    iTouch browsing
    settings/wifi = on
remote app / home sharing = on
both apple tv libraries are discovered (one is Ethernet-based; one is wifi-based)
    The laptop's is not listed.
    authorize/deauthorize laptop
    Not a help.
restart bonjour service on windows laptop
    Not a help.
    restart itunes on win7 laptop
    Not a help
run latest win7 64-bit wireshark on laptop while running itunes
looked a bit silent wrt the laptop's itunes
    control panel / add/remove programs / bonjour (10/15/2011) / repair
This showed the use of 224.0.0.251 UDP packets for bonjour. However, it did not persist.
I suspect a bonjour service - local iTunes issue. Perhaps iTunes has to interact with the service in order for the service to participate in the wire protocol. The iTunes UI is OK, so it is some internal detail.
In the past I have noticed that a heavy download load by iTunes inhibited home sharing. It may be a threading issue within iTunes.
    Summary: still not working.

  • We have three computers in the house--2 crashed before I could deauthorize home sharing.  Now, with my new MacAir, the total computers in our household is 3 but home sharing will not allow me to add the other device.

We have three computers in the house (iMac, MacAir and the new MacAir I just received) in addition to 2 iPhones and 2 iPads.  2 Macbook Pros are no longer in use (both crashed before home sharing could be deauthorized) but now I have reached my maximum device allowance (5), even though only 2 computers are currently active.  How can I reset the authorized computer numbers?

You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. Otherwise you can "deauthorize all" from your iTunes account.
    Open iTunes on a computer
From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
Under "Computer Authorizations" select "Deauthorize All".
Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "deauthorize all" your authorized computers, authorize each one as required.

  • ITunes 10.4.1 crashing on lion while home sharing with 10.4.1 on snow leopard.

    Hello,
I have a Macbook pro 2010 that was just upgraded to lion.  While streaming content via home sharing from our 24 inch iMac with snow leopard, iTunes will crash on the MacBook pro.  Both machines have iTunes 10.4.1.  Our 2008 MacBook air with leopard streams from our iMac just fine via home sharing.  Tried re-installing iTunes on MacBook pro and logging in as root to see if that would help.  No dice.  iTunes keeps crashing with either movies or music. Anyone have this issue?

Bump. Also an update: I found out that iTunes doesn't hang all the time when I tell it to close, only when I have the visualizer going, not in full screen mode. Hope that might help anything.
    Thanks,
    Carter

  • Home Sharing on Apple TV 3 crashes my Win 7 laptop!

    Hi,
I am not absolutely sure if its a Apple TV, iTunes or Home Sharing problem - but every time I turn on Home Sharing from my Windows 7 laptop, and try to access my iTunes library (few photos and music) from Apple TV, it crashes and restarts my laptop. I have tried updating iTunes to the latest version, have reset our Apple TV and Wifi router but the issue still remains.
Incidentally, my wife's laptop, which runs Windows 8, has no issues accessing her iTunes Library on our Apple TV via Home Sharing.
She has more photos and music on her laptop than mine!
The only difference between her and my laptop is the operating system and the hard drive on my laptop is encrypted as it belongs to the organization I work for.
Apart from that all other variables are more or less the same.
Can anyone suggest any ideas to fix this?
    Thanks in advance,
    S Ray

    Hi there Suddha Satta Ray,
That sounds like a potential software issue on the Apple TV. I would recommend restoring the device as an initial troubleshooting test. Take a look at the article below for more information.

  • Hard crash when transferring film over Home Sharing

I've discovered an issue with my late 2010 iMac and Home Sharinh
When, using Tunes (10.4) and transferring a film from my Mac mini's shared Home Sharing library, the iMac always experiences a hard crash (OS X locks up telling me I have to power off and on again).
At first I thought it was an issue with the iMac's OS, but found it's specific to my iMac itself.  I discovered this as:
Issue occurred when using a Lion OS on external hard drive on iMac (OS 1)
Issue occurred when using iMac's hard drive's OS (OS 2)
Issue didn't occur on MacBook Pro (OS 3)
Issue didn't occur when using the Lion OS from external hard drive on MacBook Pro (OS 1)
As you can see the issue seems specific to the iMac as when trying a different machine (using either that machine's OS or an external hard drive bootable OS that had issues on the iMac), the issue doesn't occur.
All machines are using OS X Lion and fully up to date.
Copying large files over AFP and FTP doesn't have this issu.
Just when copying larger files via Home Sharing, and only on my iMac, no matter if I use it's own OS or one that works fine on other hardware that's on an external hard drive.
Any ideas on what to do?

Here's the crash report, seems to be the Airport that's causing the issue:

  • IPod and Video apps crashing on iOS5 devices when using Home Sharing

I turn on the Home Sharing in iTunes 10.5. (on a iMac running Lion) open the iPod app on iPhone4 or/and iPad2 (both running iOS5) acces the Home Sharing library - and then 2 seconds later the app crashes.
Well I've tried a Reset to Factory Settings, install iOS as a new device, turned off firewall, reset wifi-rooter and modem, deleted itunes username/passw - typed it back in again... well still no Home Sharing here...
    Anyone with some goor suggestions?
    Please..?
All the best from Denmark :-)

Same here... Music app crashes 2-3 seconds after trying to connect to the Home Sharing library on both the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 (both iOS 5.0.1). I've checked everything... settings on both devices, settings on iMac, router, open ports, firewall... all fine.
The same iPad 2 when on iOS 4.3.3 works just fine, same was ok for iPhone 4 on 4.3.3.
Any thoughts / ideas / solutions anyone?

  • Home sharing process causes laptop to crash...?

So, for the last 10 days I have simply been trying to move all of my iTunes stuff from an old Dell Inspiron to a brand new Dell Inspiron.
I have a bit of a unique situation as it's more or less escalated annoyingly over the last couple years, so I will start at the begining:
I have an iPhone 4 that was originally synced with an older model of Dell Insipron laptop. The iPhone is still running iOS 6 becasue there is not enough room on the phone to update to iOS 7 (Since it can't get iOs 8). I recently bought a new laptop, a new Dell Inspiron. My plan was simply to transfer everything from the old Dell to the new Dell, factory reset the iPhone then update it to latest iOS possible, and sync all my music and apps back onto it with the new Dell, leaving it synced to the new Dell.
Both Dells are running the newest version of iTunes and latest Windows Updates available. The old one is running Window's Vista, the new one has Windows 8. I originally thought I'd just put all the music files onto a USB and import them onto the new Dell. This unfortunately doesn't work because a vast majority of the music is protected files as they are off CD's or other means. Thankfully, iTunes has the nifty Home Sharing ability. I authorized both laptops and turned on home sharing on both laptops all with the same iTunes account and it instantly home shared about 90% of all my files. I think the internet connection was lost before the transfer was completed. Now I have about 200 songs left that won't home share.
When I select to import these songs the first time after both laptops restarting it says it requires authorization. I deauthorize and reauthorize both laptops and turn home sharing back on. After this, I can select to import these songs again, this time the process starting but immediately getting 'stuck'. I have fiddled with it enough times to realize that what is going on is as soon as Home sharing between the laptops begins, the older laptop instantaneously freezes and will only come back with a hard reboot (holding the power key). I have even tried running iTunes and the laptop in safe mode with the same problem occurring. The new laptop simply pops up with an error about a timed out connection once the old laptop has completely frozen.
I am quite tech savy, know both my laptops inside and out and have cleared the old laptop of everything unnecessary and turned off all unnecessary processes. The laptop works properly doing everything but Home Sharing, so this has to be a problem with iTunes. I tried Calling Apple Support, only to be told they wont even think about the issue unless I pay for apple care, which I can most definitely not afford right now. Really, I just need this stuff transferred so I can wipe the iPhone so I can update the iOS and have my personal iTunes on my new laptop.
Please can anyone help, I would be so grateful.... iTunes has been nothing but trouble ever since i got my first iPod, and it's not even the products, it's always just the iTunes software on my laptop that causes the issue. I really don't care how I get these protected files off the old laptop onto the new one, I just need help getting them there!
Also a note: I no longer have the majority of the Cd's, etc, that these files came off of... Alot of them now belong to other family members who may well be accross the other side of the country.

  • HT4527 The computer that has my i Tunes library has crashed, How do I turn off Home Sharing on this computer and tranfer my files to another computer?

How do i turn off home sharing and transfer my ITunes library to another computer?

Your music will only be where you put it.  You can download the itunes program and sign into your account on any computer, but your music/content will not be there unless you put it there.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer files/docs/pics/music/etc.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup copy, not good, then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod.  File>Transfer Purchases

  • Home Sharing is not working following update to iOS 5.1 and iTunes 10.6

    First, the problem:
I am not able to see any shared libraries  when using the Music and Video apps on my iPhone 4.
    Next, the specs:
iTunes 10.6 on MBP running Mac OS X 10.7.3
    iPhone 4 runinng iOS 5.1
Wi-Fi connections for both MBP and iPhone 4
Both connect to same network using same SSID with static IP addressing and UPnP enabled.
MBP connects using 5 GHz N-Only anntena.
iPhone 4 connects using 2.4 GHz NG-Mixed antenna. (Hopefully next iteration of iPhone supports 5 GHz.)
    Third, what I have tried:
Everything in "Troubleshooting Home Sharing" (KB Article TS2972 - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972).
Re-entering my Apple ID credentials for both Music and Movies in iOS Settings.
Re-entering my Apple ID credentials for Home Sharing in iTunes.
Setting up Port Forwarding for both the iPhone 4 and MBP in my router for the relevant TCP and UDP ports (just in case). However, this did not help.
    Finally, what I have noticed:
My Remote app on the iPhone 4 works without issue and can control iTunes running on my MBP.
My Air Mouse app on the iPhone 4 works without issue and can control my MBP.
My wireless printer connected to the network via the 2.4 GHz antenna (it only supports 802.11g) is usable - I can print to it and access its embedded web server management tool.
So, in the end, Home Sharing no longer works on my iPhone 4 after updating both IOS and iTunes (all other apps and software updates are current for both the phone and the MBP). I believe I have ruled out any issues with which antenna is being used for which device. I am out of ideas on how to get Home Sharing to work again.
Any suggestions or possible solutions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you gurus in advance!

Spoke to a "senior advisor" in the Apple TV department.  Her suggestions:  change channel in router to minimize/eliminate wifi interference from other users; move router away from any metal - i.e., DVD player, phone modem, etc.; keep router away from wireless 2.4 gH phones, which are "notorious" for crashing wifi routers.  So she confirms that the problem is one of connection to router suddenly dropping out.
My own feeling is that none of these fixes will do the trick, because it seems pretty clear that there is a hardware component here - the timing of the drops seems like an overheating issue.  It takes 35-40 minutes for the box to warm up enough for the first drop; then each consecutive drop happens quicker than the one before, as it heats up more.  Each time it drops, its tiny brain gets a little more scrambled; last night it finally wouldn't start up again at all.
My suggestion is that everyone who is experiencing this problem, please call Apple tech support and ask to speak to a senior advisor in the Apple TV department.  Make them aware of this problem!

  • TS2972 Home Sharing will not work on my new iPad Mini

I have an iPad mini set up with home sharing on my iMac.  When I try to search my home sharing library on the iPad mini, the music app immediately crashes. Also, it will not sort the music by artist or album, only by song or playlist.  I have rebooted both of the devices multiple times and have verified that OS X, iTunes, and iOS are all up to date. Anyone else having this kind of problem with the new minis?

Figured out my problem sharing my music library on a new iPad Mini (I think).  Two issues:  (1) I have two Apple IDs, the result of doing one years ago and forgetting about it when I set up another; Apple doesn't seem to be able to ever merge or otherwise fix this problem, despite the best efforts of smart folks at the Genius Bar plus of course I'm forced to have 3rd ID as my iCloud username, but never mind....).  I was logged in as one Apple ID and my music library is under the other.  Went to "Music" under settings, signed out under "Home Sharing" on that page, signed in again as the other Apple ID.  (2) Realized then that it was trying to share music from something called my iPad library instead of the library under my name, which is where my music is.  When I fixed these two things, it all shared nicely.  Whew!

  • My Ipod wont sync with my new library and I dont know why not. It will show that it is connected through home sharing, but it is only avalible when i am with my laptop! I dont know how to get this current library as mine on my ipod, help!

My ipod will not sync with my laptop. I have had previous Ipods in the past, but since then I have grown out of most of my music. Also about a year and a half ago I got a new laptop. I used the same Itunes name, but now on my new Ipod it has all of my old music and it refuses to download any of my new music. When I am using home sharing though, it says that I can turn on my "Library" but that my "music" is what is perminately on the computer. This only works though if I am near my laptop. When I try to transfer my library onto my ipod it wont let me. My music on my ipod is completely different than my normal itunes library on my computer and I have no idea how to transfer it. When I plug it in, it wont sync at all, or show that there is any device even plugged in. I am frustrated and tired of not having any  of my music, so someone please help!!!

You can only sync to one computer/iTunes library. To make this your syncing computer:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
