Home Sharing Failed to xfer iTunes Library - how do I start over?

Trying to "copy" iTunes Library from 1 Windows 7 (64bit) to another Windows 7 (64bit) computer. Followed instructions to use "Home Sharing" but the result was a complete disaster. Target Library wound up with every Playlist duplicated - and most Playlists were "empty" (ie: no songs at all).
I deleted all the Playlists - and went to delete the actual songs (only in the Target Library), but then it said something about "hiding" the selected songs from iCloud (which I don't want or use).
Is there a way to delete the Target Library - and start from scratch? The Source Library is fine/intact.

Stop attempting to use Home Sharing, I've yet to see anyone use it successfully to transfer their library.
Delete all the "crap" off the new computer (the ENTIRE iTunes folder on the new computer).
Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.  Everything in iTunes on the new computer will be exactly as it was on the old computer.

  • When I use Home sharing, I can see the library I want to copy, but when I highlight the library, the import button does not show up. Also, it will not let me drop and drag. How do I get music from one computer to the other computer?

When I use Home Sharing, I can see the library I want to copy under Shared, but I can't get it save on the computer under the regular library. I go to edit and "select all" but there is no import button that is in the right hand corner. Also, it will not let me click and drag the music. How do I get it from one computer to the other?

Since both computers are connected via the network, you could simply copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from one computer to another via the network.
If both computers are running Windows, use the Easy File Transfer Utility built into Windows to move iTunes and all other user media/data.

Copy the movie from the current library to the correct library.
iDevices can only sync to one library at a time.

  • Cannot check the box "only allowed paired or home sharing remotes to control itunes"

I cannot connect my home sharing so I go to Edit>Preferences>Devices>check box only allowed paired or home sharing remotes to control itunes> Then click OK. After that I go to see whether the box is checked or not and I found that it is not checked. I don't know how to deal with it because every time I check the box, it's unchecked so cannot check box only allowed paired or home sharing remotes to control itunes. Is this the problem that causes the home sharing problem?

Hmmm, sounds weird. If someone else has experienced this maybe they will jump in here, but if not, you can always call Nike+. Surprisingly they answer their phone quite quickly.
Anyway, here's my shot at it:
I will assume you have downloaded the Nano updater ( http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/ ).
I would eject and disconnect the Nano (perhaps restarting my computer) and close iTunes, then reopen iTunes, reconnect and see if the box is available.

  • I accidentally erased music somehow from my itunes library, how can i get it back?

i accidentally erased music somehow from my itunes library, how can i get it back?  I'm not sure how I did it, but I do know something has been wierd ever since.  i remember using it and arranging songs, and then, bing!  Songs were missing.  Please help!
Not quite sure what info you need to answer this.   I dont have all my music synced to icloud unfortunately...at least not that i'm aware of.

You either have an incredibly complex computer setup or I think you are confusing terminology here.  If you have iTunes set to share your library with others in your iTunes preferences then other computers in the area will see it as an item when they are running their iTunes and have it set to check for shared libraries.  Your husband is probably seeing this when running iTunes on his computer.  You can disable this sharing on your computer and/or he can set his not to pick up shared libraries.
By the way, an iTunes account is something you log into when you want to buy something from Apple.  On your computer it is simply your iTunes collection or your iTunes application.  So you need to turn off sharing in your iTunes application preferences.
Your husband is seeing "his" iTunes collection when running iTunes, but it is possible he doesn't have anything in it if it is a brand new computer.

Use your backup copy of your computer.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup copy, then you can redownload some itunes purchases in some countries:

  • Sharing a single, networked itunes library?

    hello --
to make a long story short, i might have to buy a mac mini (frequent flyer points about to expire, might as well use them) and i'd like to use my unraid nas to store my itunes library instead of loading up the mini's hard drive. the mac would be placed in the music room, feeding my hi-fi rig's dac via a 25' fibre optic cable, with amarra / pure music / whatever dishing out high-res music.
up to now, there's nothing special. others have done it, surely.
but here's the twist. my itunes library is currently located on a windows box. since a recent scare (mother of all bsod, a few music files got corrupted), i've been thinking about storing all of my music on more robust storage. in this case, my nas (unraid v4.5.6, fwiw).
the nas would only provide "dumb" storage, it would not be an itunes server.
the actual twist is that i'd like to have this one library shared by two different boxes: one windows, one a mac. what i have read up until now is not encouraging. two macs or two pcs should be ok sharing a network-stored itunes library, but a mac and a pc do not look as if they would "play nice". but who knows, maybe it can be made to work.
anyone else done this? am i alone with such a crazy idea?
    thanks in advance.

    Dear Jolly,
Do you know if either program will allow you to direct where each individual "library" is located so I can spread them among different drives?
i believe both can, at least PowerTunes offers that feature -> http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/powertunes/Help/creating%20a%20new%20library.html
Also, can you generate the new libraries in the new locations by selecting playlists or large groups of files to from the master library?

Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.
