Home Sharing from Mac mini not working to Apple TV anymore

Hi there,
My Mac mini (2010 version) is being used as a home theatre. I have been able to connect to my Mac mini through the "Shared" tab in the Finder on my iMac and MacBook Pro along with my Apple TV through Home Sharing on iTunes, up until yesterday.
When I try accessing my Mac mini shared folder in Finder, it just says "Connecting" for a very long time, before it tells me "Connection Failed."
On my Apple TV, which is a big problem because my entire iTunes library feeds my Apple TV, it just doesn't show up anymore at all.
Are there any solutions to any of these problems?
Thank you so much,
Marcus Cyganiak

have you tried rebooting your mini ?
you also might want to try booting into _*safe mode*_, repairing permissions using *disk utility* while in it, then rebooting normally.

  • Home Sharing to iOS suddenly not working

I have an iMac with a quite extensive library of both music and movies/TV Shows. I of course use Home Sharing to stream this library to my Apple TV2, first and foremost, mot also to my iPad on occasion.
That is until a few weeks ago. Whenever I try to access my shared library from the iPad it says that the library contains no videos and suggest that I buy some from iTunes Store. I can think of no particular thing that happened before this behaviour. It just suddenly stopped working. Home Sharing to my Apple TV and Macbook is still working as it should.
I've tried all typical solutions I can think of - disconnecting and reconnecting the Apple account on my iPad, disabling and re-enabling Home Sharing on my iMac, restarting devices, etc. I also tried restoring my iPad. I did however, not set it up as a new iPad, but restored a backup before trying to access Home Sharing again. My wireless network is distributed from a recently purchased Time Capsule.
Anyone else have this problem? Any solutions or suggestions out there?
Just to clarify, the iPad can see the library and apparently connects, but instead of listing any content it shows a black screen saying "No Videos".

Same exact thing has happened to my wife's iPad. It was working perfectly for her just last night. And my iPad continues to stream videos from the iMac perfectly, right next to hers. All software is up to date, rebooted both the iMac and the iPad, with no luck. This is very strange.

  • Home Sharing from Mac to iPad vs. Mac to AppleTV 2

Some odd quirks about Home Sharing from a Mac to the iPad, vs. from a Mac to AppleTV 2.
I'm seeing duplicates of some of my TV Seasons on the iPad (like, 3 identical icons that claim to be the same Season 2 of a series-the contents are identical). Meanwhile, some TV seasons don't show up at all.
Also, episodes seem once again out of order; this was an issue originally with AppleTV 2, which I fixed by adding both track numbers and season episode numbers.
All my content looks great in AppleTV 2 now-on the iPad..not so much I know the content all plays fine on all 3 devices, so it's not a format issue I don't think. Curious if anyone else is seeing some odd Home Sharing contents on their iPads/iPhones as well.

I am seeing an issue as well. It seems that when using Home Share on my iPad, that the directory listing of for example my TV shows is not complete. What I am seeing is that it only displays a subset of the entire catalog of TV shows in my iTunes Library. I notices that from A through S shows were present but nothing thereafter. So I changed the names of the TV Shows to start with an A for example and they did show up but then several shows dropped off the end of the listing. I concluded that the issue is not an alphabetical issue but just a limited amount of entries within the directory can be displayed.... obviously a bug within the iPad current release of 4.3. I do notice that the iPhone ver of IOS doesn't seem to have the problem. Also it does display several of the identical TV shows as well as mentioned in prior messages.

  • Apple TV has no sound when mirroring from Mac mini, sound works when mirroring from iPad and iPhone

When I mirror from Mac mini to Apple TV there's no audio from Apple TV to my av amp,it works fine from iPhone and iPad,is there something I need to do in the airplay settings?

Here's what finally solved my issue:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/24436903#24436903
    From this Apple Community User:
    https://discussions.apple.com/people/Winston%20Churchill
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore)
Apparently there is an issue if you push the Apple Remote before you set your computer to mirror.  Whatever I did, it had locked it in that state.  Once I stopped mirroring, then went onto the TV screen and restarted the Apple TV (#1 above) it then allowed me to choose mirroring on my Mac and the audio automatically switched from the computer to the TV (making the computer now mute), BTW the volume needs to be maxed on the computer as that will transmit to the TV if your volume is low on the computer.  Then you can raise or lower it the way you want on your TV.
    Yay!
    Hope this helps others.....

  • Apple TV - iTunes Home Sharing - Mac mini - Not Working!!!

Hi everyone, I am in urgent need of help here!
I use the latest Mac mini to hold my iTunes Library to stream it over to my Apple TV with Home Sharing; however, there is a problem - it doesn't work anymore!
If I use my iMac or MacBook Pro, the Home Sharing works great to the Apple TV, without a single problem. For the past week and a half now though, my Mac mini just doesn't want to stream anything over, despite still appearing under the "Computers" column on the home screen of the Apple TV interface.
When I select my Mac mini, I get this seemingly endless loading screen:
    http://goo.gl/s0Qg1
When that loading screen does end though, I get this:
    http://goo.gl/xj3eY
It says "Could not connect to the Mac mini Library - Make sure your computer has iTunes open, and that it's on the same network as Apple TV."
I always verify that my iTunes is open on the Mac mini and that both the Mac mini and Apple TV are on the same network, and still nothing works.
Is there just some kind of issue with streaming the iTunes Library to the Apple TV via Home Sharing that I'm missing? There shouldn't be, but it's a very consistant problem that has come and gone away at random times, but now it seems to be a permanent and upsetting problem.
If anyone can help me on this matter, please send your helpful words because I would like to fix this problem and not deem my Mac mini as a waste of money. I actually bought the Mac mini for the purpose of streaming my iTunes Library, rather than to bog down my iMac with lag and memory being chewed up, because I need it being fast for my work.
    Thank you!

I've got the same problem. Bought a second Apple TV2 a couple of weeks ago and set it up to work with both my iMac and MBP - no problems. Both Apple TV's worked perfectly from both computers until... after a long night at work, the newest one decided to display a message telling me an update was available. Yes, you guessed it! I updated!
Now, although this new Apple Tv displays the libraries from both machines, I get the messages in the original post when I try to access my iMac account - no problem though with my MBP account. Both machines have the up-to-date versions of iTunes. Thank goodness I did not update the older Apple TV2 box!
I echo the sentiments of all the other posts - it is about time Apple pulled their finger out and sorted this mess.
I wonder how many other people have the same problem?

  • How can I get multiple users to be able to share the music on iTunes? I've tried Home Sharing, but it does not work properly.

How can I get home sharing to work on my mac mini for multiple users? It says it is working, but it never shows up in the left hand column.

    Gino Cerullo,
Thanks for your response. I tried all that myself. In fact, last night, it all worked fine on all users. This morning, no Home Sharing would show up. It is really weird because some setting must have changed, but I did not knowingly changed anything, and now all the obvious fixes don't work. In fact, if I turn off Home Sharing and turn it back on, then it comes up only until I hit the "done" button on the set up page and then it goes away from the left hand column again. The ADVANCED drop down tab says it is on, but it is not there.
    Thanks anyway.

  • AppleTV Home sharing. Mac Mini? Airport w/ Time capsule?

    Hello all,
Ok I've been searching around but can't seem to find the answer... Here's what I would like to do:
I would like to be able to turn on my AppleTV, scroll over to "Computers" and access my TV shows and movies via home sharing without having to turn on or open my macbook. The problem is the macbook has to be in the vicinity of the AppleTV in order to access the media so if it's at work or my wife wants to access the media when I'm not home it won't work. I want to always be able to access it.
Now that being said, I know there will need to be additional equipment involved in this process. I'm here looking for recommendations from the pros. Should I get a Mac Mini and import all of my files to iTunes on the Mac Mini and just leave it on all the time connected to wifi? Do I need an Airport with an external hard drive attached?
Thank you in advance for your help.

shared lib means a computer which is turned on and has itunes running and has shared lib turned on
it don't matter if it's mac or pc or anything when the over stated requirements are met it works
apart from that it only give you access to material which is in a by the appletv supported format

  • To Apple engineers: Home sharing and wifi sync not working after fresh install

Have been using wifi sync and home sharing on my Macbook 5,1 since its early debut.
Since Macbook 5,1 is old i am using it to stream MP4 files to my Apple TV.
The functionality has been working fine throughout the OSX iterations; then came Mavericks.
Now my iTunes library will not sync with Apple TV3, nor will my iPhone 5/iPad 3 wirelessly sync with my iTunes library.
For some reason since upgrading to Mavericks the thing wont work under normal boot.
Restarting in Safe mode solves the problem. Assuming it was some erroneous configuration i went through troubleshooting steps to try and resolve it.
First i uninstalled any third party apps.
Then i repaired, went through Maintenance and Cleaning of the system using Onyx
Then i tried manually removing third party boot kexts from the System Library and user Library
Then i tried reinstalling OSX via the recovery partition (cmd+r on boot time)
Finally i tried a full system erase and reinstall via an external bootable Mavericks USB.
After all these steps the problem persists.
There should be no hardware failure since it works fine in Safe mode and doing a clean install verifies that there are no third party conflicts with the system since iTunes was executed immediately after booting up for the first time.
This raises the concern that there seems to be some sort of system kext misconfiguration by the Apple engineers.
When executing iTunes the following errors are being displayed in the system log (via Console):

  • Mac Mini not working with AOL Cable modem

    All,
I just bought a brand new Mac Mini but it not working with AOL. My windows XP PC working well with AOL but not with mac mini. Any suggestions? thanks
    Hung

I just found an interesting thing that i brought my mac mini to Apple store where i bought it. Hook up with store cable, it can go thru to internet with out sign on AOL. ALso I can connect to AOL very easy. Brought it back home, I tried to open browser w/o sign on AOL like i did at Apple store, it did not work. I also tried to sign on AOL alone, still not work either. The weird thing is, my other Windows XP computer is working well with AOL. I called customer service of AOL for help, who takes care the Mac computer, asked me to follow the simple procedure that I already did before i called them like unplug cable modem, restart computer...etc. Nothing new, and then they transfered me back and forth between Mac and Windows specilist with no help. I was on phone with them for 2 hours yesterday. I'm very disappoint with AOL customer service with the way they serve the customer. I'm thinking to cancel membership with AOL where i stay with them more than 10 years, and look for another cable or DSL ISP. Now I'm packing the Mac Mini back to box and bring it to Apple store to return it. Next thing, is search around which ISP, who supports the Apple comp. I'm living at Los Angeles area where's very easy to find a local ISP Verizon, Earthlink, Road Runner... I'll be back to buy a new Mac when i get the internet ready. I love Apple computer, and i want to have it.

  • ML clean install on 2013 Mac Mini - not working

    Hello guys,
I have a weird problem with my new Mac Mini. I received it yesterday, the first thing I wanted to do was to format "Macintosh HD" and do a clean install of Mountain Lion using a bootable USB. I will be using the computer only for audio composing / mixing and I don't want any pre-installed junk on it. I've done this numerous times with other Macs in the past. However, when I try to boot using the Mountain Lion USB, it gives me a "prohibited sign" and I can't boot from it. Then, I tried to boot with the Mountain Lion recovery partition and re-install Mountain Lion through there, but I can't format the internal HDD using Disk Utility, most likely because the recovery partition is also on that hard drive? I've tried several things, without success:
    Repair disk (permissions)
    Reset PRAM / NVRAM
Make bootable USB's using Disk Utility, Lion Disk Maker and Carbon Copy Cloner
I imagine if I could boot into recovery mode and format the HDD from there, it would work using online recovery, but how can I format the HDD when the recovery partition is also on this HDD? And why doesn't the Mac Mini accept the Mountain Lion installer USB in the first place? Or does the installer not recognize the Mac Mini? Very confused, any help would be appreciated.
    Best regards,
    JPeters86 / NL

If your Mac mini has a fusion drive, it shipped with a "special Fusion Drive only" version of Mountain Lion. While the difference is apparently mainly a Fusion Drive aware version of Disk Utility, no other version of Mountain will boot your mini. However, you should be able to reinstall a working copy of Mountain Lion complete with all the apps you did not want by doing a Cold boot (boot from a powered off condition) while holding down the Commd+R keys and performing the reinstallation from the Recovery drive. An internet connection is required.
If by any chance you erased or reformatted the entire drive, thereby deleting the Recovery partition, you can still recover by holding down Option+Command+R during the reboot. This will force a reboot via the internet and will be a lot slower, but you should still be able to install a functional copy of Mountain Lion this way.
Hopefully the two streams of OS X will merge in Maverick.

  • Sharing from Mac mini to Mac Pro - need some help...

I have an external drive (USB) connected to my Mac Pro. The Mac mini is in another room set up on the network. And Alias of the USB external Drive is in my Shared Folder and the Mac Mini sees it. I initially had to do "CMND+K" and enter in the Mac Pro's IP. It connected fine, and I can access the files. But, when I sleep the mini, and then wake it up later, I have to go through the "CMND+K" routine again and relogin to the Pro. I have tried adding this login routine to be auto, but it doesn't seem to be working. I get an error couldn't mount the drive when the mini wakes up. Maybe I did it wrong? Thanks

    Don't sleep the mini.

I have a mac mini (late 2014) model that appears to not work with my headset's microphone, my headset is a logitech h130 that works perfectly with all other devices that I have (which are not apple), please fix! ASAP

Assuming that the headset has two 3.5 mm plugs you need one of these to combine the headphone and jack into one 3.5 mm plug

  • File sharing between macs oddly not working

I'm trying to share folders between two macs running Lion (at work so sharing is important) but the one computer doesn't connect.
    The problem.
Mac1 is set up to share and appears in the shared list on Mac2.
When Mac2 tries to connect to Mac1, I have a Connection Failed with a pop up that reads
"There was a problem connecting to the server " 'Users' iMac".
Check the server name or IP address, and then try again. If
you continue to have problems, contact your system administrator."
Mac1 can actually connect to the shared folders on Mac2 so there only seems to be a conflict 1 way..
I don't have any other alerts throughout the system that relates to IP address and Mac1's name is correct.
Really puzzled. My knowledge of IP address and problems with IP conflicts is limited so I'm not sure how to get things to work..
