Home Sharing-Hope this gets better fast

It's nice that I can move music and movies around the computers in my home from within iTunes.
But Home Sharing is barely worth the effort. Help me out if I'm getting any of this wrong?
* I can't move playlists, smart or otherwise? Trying to navigate through my library of more than 4,000 tracks and 400 albums is incredibly painful without them. Yes, I can export and import them, but isn't that besides the point of Home Sharing?
* My wife has her own Mac and her own iTunes store. But we can't share files without using one iTunes password or the other? And 90% of our libraries were ripped from CDs anyway!
* Only literally "purchased" tracks sync? I just ripped the new Pearl Jam into one computer and waited and waited and finally had to accept I was going to have to manually find it and drag it over. That is super lame. Wow.
Those are my three biggest peeves right now. I was hoping to be able to get rid of my rsync and launchd scripts, but I guess this little experiment with Home Sharing is over.

Same problem here, mine is always running, might not be the best solution but the powerconsumtion isnt that Hugo, I suppose.

You can't import media from one Home Sharing library to another by any other means except selecting the individual items you want to import. For example, you can't select a playlist and then click on the 'Import' button to import all the items in that playlist. You have to select all the items in the playlist before you can click on the 'Import' button. By extension, the playlist on the other Home Sharing computer will not be re-created on your computer. You can select more than one item using the 'Shift' or 'Command' keys.
What you can do is create a playlist on your computer first, with the same name if you want, and then use drag and drop to copy the media from the remote playlist to your playlist. Note that the playlist on your computer cannot be a 'Smart' playlist it must be a regular playlist for drag and drop copying to work.
Regarding 'Smart' playlists. If you create a 'Smart' playlist on your computer that uses the exact same filtres as the ones on the remote library when you import the media from the remote library they will show up in the same 'Smart' playlist on your computer.

Can I use Home Sharing for this...

I have 3 iphones (2 x 6's and 1 x 5), and an ipad, all of which I use one iTunes account. iTunes and Mac software all up to date
Is it possible to use Home Sharing to sync them all exactly the same or is the a better/smarter way to do this.
I have tries to sync them separately and it sort of works when it comes to contacts, apps etc but I want my playlist t be the same and can't seem to get that correct.

maybe you could try Evernote (available in APPSTORE) to keep track of your reminders. You could use built-in contacts to save your customers contact though or if you are not satisfied enough with it, search in appstore for everything you need, there's plenty of 'em.

Home Sharing - how to get music files to transfer from one computer to another...

I have two computers in my home authorised for Home Sharing - I have no problems locating the other library on either of my computers. However, when I am on iTunes in Computer A and I click onto Computer B's music library (so that I can transfer music file to Computer A) I am unable to move Computer B's music into Computer A. I have both iTunes open on each computer and ther are both using the same Wifi connection.
In iTunes Help, it says:
     - select the music files that I want to share into Computer A. (this bit I can do).
     - in the 'show' menu at the bottom of the iTunes window, select 'items not in my library'. This is where I run into trouble - there does not appear to be any such menu!
     - select items I wish to import, then click on 'import'. - again, no such button appears to exist!
I have updated my iTunes software to the latest version available on both computers. This is very frustrating for something that should be quite simple - I would very much appreciate any suggestions or solutions...

With Home Sharing, you can stream music and video from one authorized computer to another, or simply drag music between computer libraries. You can also choose to have iTunes automatically import purchases you make on any of your Home Sharing computers to your own library. To do so, select the library and use the Settings button at the lower right of the iTunes window to check what you'd like copied.

TS2972 Troubleshoot HOME SHARING. Everything is connected. Everything is up to date. Everything is turned on. Everthing is enabled and My network works!! The ONLY thing that is not working is Home Sharing and this JUST happened after I updated iTunes.

I had NO problem with Home Sharing until I updated iTunes. INSTANTLY, Home Sharing quit. I have two AppleTV's, two computers running Win7 and iTunes. All have worked seamlesly until I updated iTunes last night. I have tried all of the Home Sharing trouble shooting suggestion with no luck. My network connections are good and I can stream EVERYTHING ( Netflix, Youtube, NetRadio etc ) EXCEPT I cannont connect to Home Sharing. What gives Apple Support? Where is the fix? Anyone?

Has there been any response that helped? Why hasn't someone from Apple responded with a solution? This post was created back in 2012 and I did an update on my iTunes to 12.1.1.4 and all of a sudden my Home Sharing stopped working. I even reset my settings on my Apple TV hoping that would work and no, it didnt. Does anyone have a solution?

If you find you have reached 5 authorizations, you can reset your authorization count by clicking Deauthorize All in the Account Information screen.
Click iTunes Store in the menu on the left side of iTunes.
If you're not signed in to the store, click the Account button, then enter your account name and password.
Click the Account button again (your ID appears on the button), enter your password, and then click View Account.
In the Account Information window, click Deauthorize All.
Note: You may only use this feature once per year. The Deauthorize All button will not appear if you have fewer than 5 authorized computers, or if you have used this option within the last 12 months. Then authorize the computers you want.

Your music will only be where you put it. You can download the itunes program and sign into your account on any computer, but your music/content will not be there unless you put it there.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer files/docs/pics/music/etc.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup copy, not good, then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod. File>Transfer Purchases

Safari Spinning Out of Control - Why Doesn't This Get Better?!!

For a very extended period, Safari has been spinnin out of control memory-wise - no other OS I use does this, not does any other browser I use on OSX. This goes on and on and on and on, with no real remidiation coming from Apple. It is maddening and ruiining the usability of using the MAC and OSX. It may be due to Flash, or Flash and Apple's refusal to properly work with Adobe - Flash is out there - it is on a huge number of websites and not just for entertainment - it cannot be avoided - also transactional sites such as StubHub use it. If I have ten or fifteen web pages open, Safari, between Safari Web Content, Safari and Flash, can take three or four gigabytes or even more, and Flash is the least of them. It does not happen with Firefox. With Safari spinning out of control, the entire device slows down. This has been going on for far far far too long. It happen on my MacBook and my iMac. When is this going to get resolved? I am starting to despise using the Mac and OSX.

Poor Customer Service so far, hope it gets better

About two weeks ago, I went to a Verizon store to change my service provider from Sprint to Verizon because I have heard that Verizon customer service is so amazing. After speaking with the customer service rep, I had set up a plan and elected to get the iPhone6 for my wife and I, two phones total. The customer service rep said she would have to order one and it would be about a week before we would get our new phones, which I was ok with. When she put in our address, she put in the wrong address for one of the phones but not the other. When I pointed out that it was not our correct address, the rep told me all I would have to do is contact Fed Ex once it ships and have them change the destination. Ok, not a problem. A week went by and the phones shipped, so we contacted Fed Ex per the customer rep's advice and Fed Ex told me that I would not be able to change the destination, only a Verizon employee could do that. So I contacted our customer service rep again on Monday and she said she would have it fixed... this was Monday. We received one of the phones yesterday and the tracking number shows that the other phone was shipped to Florida while I live in Virginia. Now we have one of the phones here at my house and the other phone is on the other side of the country. Since Monday, I have been chasing down this customer service rep and her supervisor trying to get this situation fixed and I keep getting brushed off and I feel like my issue is not important to them, though this was their mistake. When I ask for updates, the rep only responds to me in text and when I tried to call her yesterday, she stated that she won't know anything until today and that she would notify me first thing. It is 11:30 and I guess first thing for her isn't the same as what "first thing" means to me. Is this what Verizon customer service is like? Making errors, then tasking the customer to fix your error? I understand that one employee does not represent all of Verizon, but even the manager played our situation off as if no big deal. So before I decide to say forget all of it and just take my business elsewhere, I wanted to give you guys a chance to fix this. Please help and redeem your customer service.

Possible assumptions:
1. Everyone else on the forum is a guy; this is a very unusual situation.
2. There is a special relationship to the fact that the OP is a girl and that she needs help.
3. Most girls need help with Java.
4. If you indicate the fact that you are female, you are more guaranteed to get the answer you want from one the male Java gurus.
Gender should never be an issue when dealing with anything (like homework) that does not specifically regard physical differences.
1. It insults the intellect of the (good number of) female Java programmers on the forum as it discriminates their gender.
2. It insults the goodwill of the male Java programmers as it implies that they are weak and will do anything for a "damzel in distress" even if it goes against principle.

Oh, oops. Wow, I didn't think of that. Well, that just puts a whole new slant on things. I guess that just totally throws my point into the water then. :P
1. How do you know that the OP is hot (or is even female for that matter)? Unless, you go into private exchange of media information, such as photos (and of course believe that those are actually photos of the person in question.
2. That proves my point. As far as the stereotype of women goes, the stereotype of men are that they are weak, and can be made to set principles aside (such as learn to do the homework yourself and improve your life) with manipulation.

Well, I have gotten my FCP, installed it, hooked up my camera to capture a bit of test footage and am locked up to the point I can't even run the software any longer.
I opened the capture window and could play the tape and rewind it and so forth, but the preview window was not showing me any video. I closed it to check my settings, told it to refresh its devices and then opened the window again. Still no video being shown even though FCP is controlling my camera.
Then it just locked up. I had to kill it and now can't run it at all. I guess I'm about to reboot and hope that it works when I come back but can anyone tell me what might be happening?
NOTE: FCE was installed prior to FCP and it worked perfectly well and never locked up.

That is insane to even consider having to reinstall the OS...
Not really. If you plan on using professional software, and want it to work properly, sometimes this is what you have to do. And you need to be careful about versions of the OS you are running, what version of Quictime...what other applications you install and what plugins you use. Everything effects the performance of FCP. The same goes for Avid and Premiere.
But yes, what Easy Setup are you using.

I get an error message on my imac when trying to create home sharing.

I am trying to copy my contacts from my iMac to my iphone 4s using iTunes Home sharing. I get an error message stating that Home sharing could not be activated because an error occurred (5506) What does this mean? Am I using the correct application to perform this task?

Just my personal opinion, but using home sharing to transfer content is extremely unintelligent.
Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer or use the Windows File transfer utility to move all your content from the old computer to the new computer.
