Home sharing How do you do it?

How do you do home sharing? I just got married and moved out of my house, bought a new laptop and have no clue how to get the songs from the old computer onto the new one. I have windows 7. any help will be helpful. thank you.

what you want to see in iTunes is this (view from my MBP's iTunes seeing the library on my Mini)
if you then click on the house icon, it will change to this and the shared library will load. at that point, two buttons will appear in the lower right corner of the iTunes window, being settings and import
now you should be able to import any content from any shared library by selecting the content and clicking on import.
if the icon looks like this , home sharing has not been set up correctly.
in order for home sharing to work
(a) iTunes on all machines must be authorized for the same iTunes store account
(b) all machines must be on the same network
(c) all machines must have access to the internet.

  • I have many devices with itunes and want them all to have the same music in same location without home sharing, I have many devices with itunes and want them all to have the same music in same location without home sharing - how can I do this?

I have 3 ipads and 2 iphones in the house.  Each one was set up on a different computer.
How can I get it so I have all the music in one location without having "home sharing" to switch back and forth with?

    Hi,
Itunes match is one solution. You must use the same apple ID on all computers.
Start match on one computer and once match has completed its process, add match to the second computer. Match will scan for music in that computers itunes library and once complete you will see all the music in cloud from first computer - this will be available to download on second computer.
When you go back to the first computer, you will now have second computers music avalable for download. Continue process on other computers.
Alternatively to could use home sharing to move music from one computer to another by using "Not on this Computer Option"  when viewing shared libraries.

  • On home sharing, how can i share all of my music? It only shares the purchased songs from itunes.

I just  got a new laptop, and need to share my itunes account from my previous laptop to this one.
Both laptops have updated Itunes accounts and are authorised and home shared.
However, on the new one it has only transferred across my Itunes store bought songs, not any of the other 800 songs from downloads or cds that i have put on.
How can i get these onto my laptop without using an external drive?
    Thanks.

Unless you subscribe to itunes match, icloud has nothing to do with music.  Are you syncing music from a computer's itunes to a device?

This problem, for reasons unknown to me, has resolved itself on its own. After several attempts finally everything decided to work. How does stuff like this happen? Thank you.

  • Home Sharing - How the **** do I contact Itunes support?

On the contact page it's very specific about email support covering certain topics, phone support covering others, Express lane... etc.. And I don't know where to go about home sharing.
I cannot get home sharing to work between my home mac and my dell laptop. When I try to log onto home sharing on my mac, it says: "An error occurred."
I just want to talk to someone at the itunes support about it but I'm don't know how. It's very confusing. :/

To contact iTunes Support go to http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ - click on 'Other iTunes Store Features' in the list and then on 'Podcasts'. You will see a link to 'Express Lane', which will guide you eventually to some contact options.

  • Home Sharing - how to get music files to transfer from one computer to another...

I have two computers in my home authorised for Home Sharing - I have no problems locating the other library on either of my computers. However, when I am on iTunes in Computer A and I click onto Computer B's music library (so that I can transfer music file to Computer A) I am unable to move Computer B's music into Computer A. I have both iTunes open on each computer and ther are both using the same Wifi connection.
    In iTunes Help, it says:
         - select the music files that I want to share into Computer A. (this bit I can do).
         - in the 'show' menu at the bottom of the iTunes window, select 'items not in my library'. This is where I run into trouble - there does not appear to be any such menu!
         - select items I wish to import, then click on 'import'. - again, no such button appears to exist!
I have updated my iTunes software to the latest version available on both computers. This is very frustrating for something that should be quite simple - I would very much appreciate any suggestions or solutions...

    Hi arastis10,
If you are having issues transfering songs between computers set up for Home Sharing, you may find the following articles helpful:

With Home Sharing, you can stream music and video from one authorized computer to another, or simply drag music between computer libraries. You can also choose to have iTunes automatically import purchases you make on any of your Home Sharing computers to your own library. To do so, select the library and use the Settings button at the lower right of the iTunes window to check what you'd like copied.

  • I have a problem with Home Sharing. If you know the answer please advise.

My problem relates to home sharing. I have it turned on on my PC and on my apple TV. While watching a fiolm the appleTV stops recognising that home sharing is already on and gives the usual message to turn it on, etc. BUT it is on.
I have iTunes on my C drive and all my media on the external drive.
If I turn off Home Sharing on my PC and then turn it on again the apple TV recognises the Home Sharing and will play the film for a while. But only for a while as it then doesn't recognise it again. All the usual things appear to be OK and I discovered today that even when the appleTV wrongly suggests my home sharing is off on my PC I can watch any film, uninterrupted on my iPhone.
    Any thoughts please.

More than likely its a hardware issue, I have never encountered such a problem and best bet is to just go get it replaced. If you have insurance on your device apple will replace it as long as there was no water damage, if you dont have insurance they will charge $200 more or less. Hope you get it fixed

  • Home sharing--how to autosync?

Hi. I have finally gotten home sharing to work, but it seems to be a laborious process of "Import"ing each and every song. I have over 10,000 songs. How can I set up these to be autosynced? From PC1 to PC2 and vice versa...I want both my libraries to be automatically imported etc so they're always the same. Can do, or is the home sharing a half-baked feature?

How do u get purchases to sync again? i just bought a song on one machine, and it does not appear on the other without a manual drag and drop from one lib to another. ps. i think homesharing is GREAT. the best thing announced this week for me. Also, i still don't get how to sync, understood it's manual now, but i want to delete duplicate songs across libraries. How would i do that? My libs are a mess on all these machines from the years of "home sharing" the hard way:)

  • Home sharing importing failure: "you don't have enough access privileges"

I have 3 Macs (iMac, MBP, and MB) all running Snow Leopard 10.6.4 and iTunes 9.2 over the same Airport Extreme (n) WiFi network at home. The iMac contains our family's "master" iTunes library. In the past i have been able to import music from the iMac to both the MBP and MB using Home Sharing. On both the MBP and MB i can see the Shared Library on the iMac and can play/stream music from the iMac shared library on both the MBP and MB.
Today, I tried to import new music (both purchased and ripped from CD) from the iMac shared library to the MBP and MB using iTunes' Home Sharing. No problem on the MBP. On the MB, i continually receive an error message saying:
*"There was a problem downloading [song title]. You don't have enough access privileges for this operation. Please check the connection to the network is active and try again"*
I receive this message whether i try to download 1 song or 100.
The network connection appears to be working fine as i can stream music from the iMac to the MB. I have gone through all the System Preferences for Network, Sharing and Security and they are identical on both the MBP and MB. I have also gone through all the iTunes Preferences and they are the same. I have ensured Home Sharing is on all the computers and that they are using the same .mac account. I have restarted all computers multiple times. I have repaired disc permissions on the MB. Nothing makes a difference. I still receive the above error message.
Help! Any one else have this problem? Any clues or suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.
    Frank

    try this on the MB:
    (a) turn home sharing off
    (b) deauthorize, then reauthorize it. if content was purchased using more than one iTunes store account, be sure to authorize iTunes to use/play content purchased with all accounts
    (c) turn home sharing back on
also on the MB, check if you have read & write permissions for the music folder. in finder, right-click on it and +get info+. unlock the little padlock (you may have to enter your admin password) and change the permission settings. next, click on the little gear-shaped icon and +apply to enclosed items+ like so
you may also give everyone read & write access.
the important part is to *apply to enclosed items* !

  • Nvidia firewall and home networking and printer-sharing: how do you enable it?

Hey guys, finally my system is running at 100% after re-formating WinXP3 times which is probly one of the most painful experience i ever had.
I installed the nvidia firewall and it runs great but the problem is that when i enable it, all the other computers cannot see this MSI computer's shared folder and network printers because I think the firewall blocked it all.
I tried to change the secuirity setting to low and even added the IP address of all the other 3 computers to the firewall config w/o avail.
can anyone of you here enlighten me?

  • Home Sharing- How do I get the songs from someone in my families library on my own library, NOT just playing them through their shared library.

Shouldn't I be able to get their songs on my library? I've tried dragging them over but it won't let me. It would be dumb if you couldn't get their stuff on to your library.

They need to be using the same ID to do that
