Home Sharing Just Won't Connect

Good morning all, I just want to add my voice to the carcophony with regards iTunes Home Sharing setup to my iPad and my new ATV2.
This past weekend we bought a new ATV2 to go with the new TV. Got home, unboxed it all and plugged it all in. It all set up seemlessly, both the new TV and the ATV2 found the wireless connection, password accepted which allowed us to successfully connect to Netflix and YouTube. After playing around for a while with the new toys I decided to try and setup Home Sharing. I followed the instructions: turn on Home Sharing in iTunes, then do the same on the reset of your devices using the same user name and password. Check. Only, not "check" because it doesn't work.
I've been floating around these forums for a few days now trying to troubleshoot and find the issue. I have triple checked login information on all the devices. I have "reset" the ATV2 to no avail, all it did was get me back to the point of being able to use Netflix, YouTube, Radio / Music, and AirPlay. Last night I played around with the Windows Firewall thing in the XP control panel, adding the port numbers from one of the other posts. Nope. I change the wireless router setting to the correct WPA setting that's also floating around. Nada. I restarted the wireless router. Nothing.
I guess tonight I will log out of EVERYTHING, reset everything and then reboot everything. However, I'm expecting the same underwhelming results.
Even my husbands computer won't show up in Home Sharing, and both desktops are hardwired to the moderm/router thing.
I'm SO used to Apple's "plug and play" beauty that this is getting frustrating, I've NEVER had to work so hard to get one of their products to work.
So to summerize, I've tried a bunch of stuff without success. Netflix, YouTube and the Radio / Music functions work without a problem. I can push content to the ATV2 using AirPlay. However, I can't get Home Sharing to work, and I can't seem to buy stuff through iTunes on the ATV2.
What else can I try?
Sincerely,
Claire
Your average, non-technical, home user.

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • I have just got Apple TV it is all connected and working fine but I can't pair it with my ipad via Bluetooth. Both say they are searching the ipad says it is discoverable but they just won't connect.

I just got Apple TV it is working great but I can't get it to pair with my ipad2, they both search and the ipad says it is discoverable but they just won't connect. All my iCloud stuff has appeared successfully onto the apple TV

My sister in America has paired hers so it means you can use it instead of the remote it is much better when searching for a movie title or song

iTunes: Understanding Home Sharing - Support - Apple

  • TS2972 Troubleshoot HOME SHARING. Everything is connected. Everything is up to date. Everything is turned on. Everthing is enabled and My network works!! The ONLY thing that is not working is Home Sharing and this JUST happened after I updated iTunes.

I had NO problem with Home Sharing until I updated iTunes. INSTANTLY, Home Sharing quit. I have two AppleTV's, two computers running Win7 and iTunes. All have worked seamlesly until I updated iTunes last night. I have tried all of the Home Sharing trouble shooting suggestion with no luck. My network connections are good and I can stream EVERYTHING ( Netflix, Youtube, NetRadio etc ) EXCEPT I cannont connect to Home Sharing. What gives Apple Support? Where is the fix? Anyone?

Has there been any response that helped?  Why hasn't someone from Apple responded with a solution?  This post was created back in 2012 and I did an update on my iTunes to 12.1.1.4 and all of a sudden my Home Sharing stopped working.  I even reset my settings on my Apple TV hoping that would work and no, it didnt.  Does anyone have a solution?

  • TS2972 enable my tv entertainment provider on my home network - then updated "a newer" modem and now home sharing just stopped home sharing

Only 2 changes to my home network set up: #1 - I installed a "new model modem" recommended by my ISP provided, and #2 I had my tv entertainment provider install their modem to the TV receiver box for accessing my home network and now home sharing will not home share.
I original had enabled, and all devices are still set up for home share - that's laptops, iphones, ipods, and ipads.
Any suggestions?  I understand these modem most have ports 123, 3689, and 5353 opened for itunes and the home sharing.
Now I am stumped on how to verify these settings.
Is it possible for me to verify these ports on these modems; how?  Or is it just wiser to contact these providers and have their technicans investigate this issue?  OR is it possible I am missing an even easier route to cure this ailment I have created unintentionally in my quest for connectivity between all things electronically capable and on the same secure network?
Oh, using PC w/WDW7 if this helps, and one other annoying detail, which confuses this entire issue of mine, the Home Share, pops on for a few minutes, and then disappears.  So yes, I am confused, it is there, and then it is not!.

Scan the Support Community sites. Apple TV losing connection is prevalent. The many postings point out the problem occurs with Apple TV1,2and 3; with different brands of router including Airport Extreme; from current and past versions of iTunes; after varying periods of working well.....minutes, hours, days; losing connection with Home Sharing and loosing Airplay; whether the router and Apple TV are in same room or separated by distance; after trying innumerable posted 'fixes'; after exchanging for a new Apple TV.
Readers, please don't post a fix until you check it works for atleast a week.

  • Home sharing - library won't load

    Details:
-home sharing is turned on for both windows computers
-I am logged in with the same apple id on both home share accounts
-I have disabled my firewall as a precaution
-both computers are connected to the same network
-I am using windows 8.1 on my computer, windows vista on the other
-both computers are using iTunes 12.0.1.26
So I can see the home sharing icon on both computers and I can see the names of the other computers on each one.  When I click the other library I want to see, it says "Loading Bob's Library", but it never loads.  Earlier it would try to load and then just go back to my library, but now it seems that it just keeps spinning like it is trying to load, but it never does.
I have seen and read the "trouble shooting" suggestions by apple, so please don't recommend those.
    Thanks for the help.

Interesting........Ibacked up and then reset my ipad mini .....latest ios   still no joy? worked fine on the iphone 5 and atv!  decided to repeatadly sign out of all instances of apple id on ipad  (music, itunes store, videos etc....signed out of itunes store on computer as well rebooted everything signed back in.......still no joy.....did this 3 times total then at 2100 eastern time  poof  everything worked???  I am suggesting itunes store, itunes issues here.....PITA that Apple couldn't just say on the 4th level support call that hey we have an isssue stand by?? • IPhone home sharing not (or slowly) connecting

It takes my iPhone a very long time (sometimes 10-15 minutes) to connect to my shared library. The first half of the loading circle fills up pretty fast, but then it's like it just stops. My iPad and AppleTV have no problems connecting and the remote app on the iPhone works fine too.
I have an iPhone 4 running iOS6 and running iTunes 11 on a Mac.

    Hello eiger3970,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
To troubleshoot this issue where the Remote app on your iPhone is prompting you to log in to Home Sharing on iTunes even though you have already, I'd like you to please follow the directions in the article below.

Previously this worked but I turned off home sharing and now can't get photos back to share,

  • I am trying to connect my iPhone 5 to my Wi Fi/Apple Network edbaa5 at home but it won't connect. How do I connect it?

I am trying to connect my iphone 5 to my Wi Fi network at home with Airport Extreme but it won't connect. How do I connect it? Thanks.

    Hi jenette,
If you are having issues using an HDTV via HDMI as an external display to your MacBook Air, you may find the following article helpful:
OS X: How to use multiple displays with your Mac in Mountain Lion and earlier
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5019
(Note: You will generally only see the arrangement option in Displays when you are configured to use the external display in Extended Desktop mode; there is no arrangement in Mirroring as both screens are showing the same image.)

  • My home sharing is not staying connected

I've connected my apple tv and it connects to my itunes using home sharing.  Everytime the computer shuts down or the apple tv sleeps...the home sharing does not reconnect when I reboot the system.  I have done all the trouble shooting steps and it does work if I unplug and reboot the router, but I don't want to do this everytime.  How can I keep connected without turning the whole system and router off.

  • My Home Shared Library won't load.

I need help here guys, I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes on both computers, the laptop with all the music can see the new PC's library, but when I tried to load the old library, it says "Loading Elijah's Library" for about 10 seconds and then nothing pops up, things return to the way they were before, I want to transfer all my music over, I did it once last time, but I had to wipe the new PC and start from scratch and now iTunes isn't working properly, help would be appreciated.

Also, sometimes when checking for new purchases on my library when it is loading, the ability to view that library under home sharing disappears completely

  • My home sharing is not working - connection is dropping out from iMac to iOS devices

I have a 2011 iMac running Mountain Lion, and am having real problems accessing my itunes library with my iOS devices (I had the same problem with Apple TV before I bought a set of power line adapters and now running an Ethernet into it). I keep my iMac on all the time, but every day I have to quit then reopen iTunes for any chance of accessing my content on my iPhone or iPad. Otherwise Even when the 'sharing' icon is there on my devices (which it always is) it just hangs when I press it. I have had this problem for over a year, but have only just starting wanting to access my library from iPad. I am using AirPort Extreme as a base station.
    Any ideas?

Powerline adapters use your home powerlines (mains a/c) to connect your devices via ethernet to your modem, they're easy to set up and the they TOTALLY fixed my ATV problem, the problem seems to be with the wireless. I've been trawling through apple discussions, and did found a workaround to my problem https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4222883?start=0&tstart=0
but its just a workaround :/

  • One mac of 3 just won't connect to the other macs

Don't know where else to post this.  I have 2 mac minis and a macbook pro.  I just cannot connect via ethernet to one of the minis from the MBP.  I used to be able to, and now I can't. I just did a fresh complete Mavericks os install. I can mount the other mini fine, but the other no. It just says "connection failed", and no combination of username or pw will work.
File sharing is on for all 3 macs, the home and an external drive are listed as "shareable", read/write to all, it's crazy. I have a very basic setup.
I just can not for the life of me figure out why. I can walk over to the other mini and connect to it and the external drive just fine, but not from the MBP.
I've tried every trick in my box - nothing is working.
Any ideas on even where to start troubleshooting this?

I have the same problem and have been on the phone with apple support for hours trying to get this resolved. After trying everything I was told thet it was a microsoft problem and that I should them. They laughed when I spoke with them. I am returning my IPOD as I don't believe you can have more than one IPOD can be used on a single computer (we have two user id's). I have finally given up and will try the Dell DJ.
