Home Sharing of purchased movies on PC's - SOS

Hi all,
I have purchased and downloaded a movie on a PC through iTunes.
It was the 1st time i handled iTunes (in general!) so i assumed that opening iTunes on my 2nd PC i would find the purchased item in my iTunes library.
I was wrong of course, since you need to enable Home Sharing. So i enabled Home sharing on both PC's.
But again the purchased movie is NOT in the iTunes library on the 2nd PC.
- Does the country affect the home sharing? I mean is it possible that home sharing is not available specifically for movies in Greece (where i live)??
- Has anybody faced the same problem? What can i do?
P.S. 1 I have succesfully authorised both PC's (through my Apple ID) for the home sharing
P.S. 2 On 'Edit' -> 'Preferences' -> 'Sharing' i have selected "Share selected playlist'' and then i selected the 'Movies' and on 'Edit' -> 'Preferences' -> 'Store' i have selected the option ''Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases''.
Don't know what else to do....
Thanks.

  • Home sharing - can see movie on iPhone, but it won't play.

I've got home sharing set up on iTunes and in my iPhone 3GS. I'm in the process of testing the digitizing of my home DVD library into iTunes, and have made my first attempt.  The film works fine in iTunes on my Mac, and I can see it on my iPhone, but when I try to play it it hangs for a second and then an error comes up that says "The operation could not be completed".  I also have a couple of television episodes I purchased - they also show up on the iPhone and play with no problem.  Any thoughts?  The movie file is an .m4v - I wondered if that could be the issue?
    Thanks,
    -K

I've seen this when downloaded to a computer/device that wasn't authorized.  Try to re-authorize in case it (or someone else) became de-authorized again.

  • Can I use home sharing if my movies are on a 2TB TC?

I have transferred my movies from iTunes onto my 2TB TC but now I cant see them on my home sharing? Is there no way for it to do this even tough that it was where my media is told to be saved ? Does it have to remain on my computers main hard drive in order to be "home shared"?

Ok, so what I did was create an iTunes media (not library folder) folder in my TC's Data file by finding the folder on my Mac and dragging it to the TC. I then went into iTunes and consolidated the library. I went back to the original iTunes media file in my Mac and put it in the trash (DO NOT DUMP FROM TRASH YET!!!). Before I deleted it I went back into iTunes>preferences>advanced and then told it where to find my media in the iTunes media location box. You will then click ok, exit out of iTunes and go to iTunes in the dock and tell iTunes to quit. You will then reopen itunes while holding the option key on your keyboard.
Now check your shared media on your iPad or ATV or whatever to make sure it sees everything and if it does you were successful and may now dump the iTunes media that you put into the trash previously.

  • Home sharing works for movies but not music?

I have Home Sharing turned on my imac.  It works fine streaming movies and tv shows to my Apple TV, Mac Mini and ipads.  The media is stored on a NAS.
My problem is with music.  When on the ipad, I open the Home Sharing folder. Only half a dozen albums show up.  The artwork is all mixed up.  On Songs, there are several hundred, but they are not properly listed (eg a hundred or so under "A", but they do not begin with the letter "A".
    I've tried retarting everything.
I've tried deleting the library and rebuilding.
I've tried creating a new library on imac.
I've tried creating a new library on NAS.
    Nothing seems to work.
    Any ideas anyone?
    thanks

After digging and reading since I posted this question, I finally found the issue. My Cisco VPN client was set to stateful firewall (always on). When I turned off this setting, all machines worked for iTunes sharing. The Vista box was coincidentally working because the Cisco VPN client 4.6 didn't work on Vista.

  • Does de-authorizing a computer for Home Sharing delete purchased songs?

We have three computers in our house. We have had two other computers, both of which were authorized for our Home Sharing account. We neglected to de-authorize these computers before getting rid of them, so the account now has 5 out of 5 machines authorized. My plan is this: De-authorize all, then re-authorize the three computers we still own. Would we still have access to all the purchased songs?

    yes.

  • Home Sharing Issue - deleted movies from one computer show up in other

    Hi Everyone:
I have searched for an answer to this issue, but have yet to find it, which is why I am posting.
I added some mv4 ripped movies to iTunes, but deleted them, moving the file to trash. I do not see them in my iTunes library. When I go into my wife's iTunes and use Home Sharing to access my computer's iTunes, the deleted movies are visible. I have logged out of Home Sharing and logged back in, but they still show up. I want to get rid of them from Home Sharing. If I deleted them on my computer, they should not show up elsewhere.
    Thank you in advance.

I've solved the problem and I wish I could just delete my previous post, but I guess I cannot. The movies I thought were deleted were listed under a different catagory in iTunes, which I found by searching for the file extension in Spotlight. Once I found them, I deleted them and they stopped showing up in Home Sharing.

  • I have a dell desktop computer and i have itunes but all of my music is from cd's i own and i'm thinking about buying a laptop if i do the home sharing can i move all my music from my desktop computer to the laptop?

i have a desktop computer and have itunes and all of my music is from cd's and i want to buy a laptop if i do home sharing will all of my music on my desktop computer be on my laptop

Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.  Home Sharing is rife with problems when transferring media.

  • HT4527 Using the Home Sharing method to move iTunes

Do both computers need to be connected to the internet at the same time for the Home Sharing transfer method to work or just at the time Home Sharing is activated on the individual computers.  I do not have wifi and only one line to access the internet.

Neither computer needs to be connected to the internet.
They do need to be on the same local network

  • Does itunes match replace home sharing's purchase check for music?

If I've got iTunes Match set up on all devices, is there any reason to automatically have each computer scan every other computer for new purchases, if music is the only media I'm interested in moving around?
For the odd movie or TV show that I buy, I'm happy to do a manual transfer. It's not very frequent.
Here's why I'm thinking of doing this. I think that when my main server tries to find purchases on other computers, it becomes unavailable to serve its media to my Apple TV devices. That means that when I try to load tv shows for my daughter, if it's busy looking for other purchases on another computer, you get the spinning wheel ... for a looooooong time. Only thing I know to fix it is to restart iTunes on the server. Royal PITA.
So, if I have iTunes match enabled on all computers, wouldn't that take care of ensuring that any song I buy from any device should automagically appear on all computers -- thus rendering the music part of music purchase checking moot?
    Thanks!

Yes, that's just for the US at the moment.
Just to clarify, by the way, that the ability to redownload music and TV programmes isn't anything to do with iTunes match. Match is a separate paid for service that puts your music collection into the cloud.

  • I rented a movie on my apple computer but it won't play on my apple tv.  i have never had a problem until a month ago.  Home sharing is on, and internet is fine.

I rented a movie on my apple computer but it wont play on my apple tv.  never had problems till 1 month ago.  internet fine, home sharing on.

The movie must fully download to iTunes.
If you have an AppleTV1, have you downloaded a 1080p movie rental as it can't handle that, in which case alter your Preferences for downloads to 720p, contact iTunes Store support and see if they can re-enable the download or refund so you can rent again at 720p.
If you have black model ATV2 or ATV3, then I assume you are looking under the Computers icon where a new Rentals row appears in order to play rentals downloaded to iTunes.

  • How to setup my account for movie rentals and setup up home sharing in UAE using a local credit card?

    Hi
I live in Dubai and just got an apple tv... I've got many friends who have easly connected their apple tv though I am having trouble with it.
I have a local credit card signed within my apple tv ID and I can't use home sharing nor rent movies? !
    Please help

Just follow the on-screen instructions and it will be fine. Obviously you need all her settings and preferences though so it may be wise to have her on the phone while you're doing it.

  • Home Sharing only HD TV shows. Possible?

I have a large (800GB+) iTunes library on one dedicated Mac mini. I have another, older Mac mini hooked up to one of my TVs as a makeshift AppleTV (my AppleTV video card died of heat failure - white spots). Since the older Mac mini only has a 250GB hard drive space is at a premium and when I transfer TV shows over via Home Sharing I tend to manually go through and delete the (unused) standard definition copy of the shows to save a little space. This is time consuming and wasteful (network time, hard drive read/writes, my time) and I'm wondering if I'm missing a setting.
For shows that I want to move to the smaller Mac mini is there a way to tell Home Sharing to only move the HD and not the SD version of the show? It seems like this should be there somewhere but I'm not seeing it and I'm not seeing much discussion about it anywhere.
As it is now, when a new episode comes out it is automatically downloaded on my main library and then through Home Sharing HD and SD get transferred to my current media library. I then have to remember to go hunt up the shows that still have the SD version and delete all of them (sometimes freeing me up 4 or 5 GB a week).
Thanks for any help or advice.

I experienced the same problem trying to stream TV shows to my iPad via Home Sharing. I found iTunes didn't download the SD version of the TV shows when I purchased the HD version, so I downloaded all the SD versions by unchecking the "Download HD When Available" checkbox under iTunes "Purchased" section. Now my iPad can stream all of the TV shows. My AppleTV was already able to stream all the HD versions normally. I do have a few home movies which have buggy artwork, but I think that is fixable by updating metadata, etc...

  • Can I use home sharing on my ps3

Hi I was just wondering if you can use home sharing to play movies via PS3

You'd need both computers to be connecting to the same wifi network in order to Home Share.

  • Home sharing with iTunes 10.7, iOS 6 and A-tv 5.1.1 fixed

I have finally resolved all the issues I was having with home sharing after installing iTunes 10.7, iOS 6, and Apple TV 5.1.1.  Everything with home sharing was failing; movies would never load, music would start plaing but then start buffering.  None of my Apple devices were working. I have been trying to resolve this for weeks now.  My solution was the 5 GHz WiFi on a Linksys E3200.  I disabled the the 5 GHz and everything started working.  I the went through every wireless setting but nothing worked with the 5 GHz turned on.
    I hope this helps,
    Laz

I just don't understand why it's so hard for all of us to acknowledge the simple fact that Home Share (and Match) simply don't work. They don't, that's all. Apple is great for hardware, but lousy on software (see also me.com, Final Cut, etc.)
Why in the world should I spend my time trying to fix something that someone else has made, without gettin paid, when the same team who created it isn't able to fix it? I just don't understand.
Every few days somebody comes up with a fix for Home Share, only to repost a few days later with a "wrong, it stopped working again".
I really don't mean to be offensive, and I really appreciate other fellow's hints and helps in this forum,I try to give my help as well when I know of a solution, but when it doesn't work we should just drop it. iTunes is a lost case, sadly.

  • Home Sharing needs to be reset every time.

I use Home Sharing to watch movies from my late 2009 iMac on my 3rd Gen Apple TV. Sometime in the past few iTunes/Apple TV updates my library stopped showing up on the Apple TV. This is remedied by turning off Home Sharing at the iMac and then turning it on again. This is a relatively simple fix but it is a pain in the ***. Prior to these recent updates I could boot the iMac, wake the Apple TV, and the library was always recognized. Home Sharing just always worked without resetting anything.
I have read some other discussions on this topic and do not consider never letting the Apple TV sleep or never powering down my iMac to be acceptable solutions. I have always put the Apple TV to sleep when not in use and my iMac gets turned completely off every night. This isn't going to change and it shouldn't have to. I just want my setup to work as it previously did. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Turn off all Firewalls.  This solved the problem for me.
