Home sharing on the apple TV only shows itunes purchased music,not my whole music library. I can not find any settings to fix this issue.
How do I get home sharing to see the entire library?
AppleTV 2 and 3's main icon Music section is a shambles.
There should be a Music store as there was on AppleTV1. Crazy you can't access Purchases unless subscribed to itunes Match.
As Winston says you are probably not looking in the correct place for local streaming of your music library.

I have two new Apple TV's with the latest Software Update. I also just subscribed to iTunes Match. I have about 400 songs imported from CD's on iTunes and about 400 songs purchased directly iTunes. All songs show up on my devices (iPad, PC, iMac) but only songs purchased on iTunes show up on my Apple TV. Is this a limitation with Apple TV? The product video for ITunes Match suggests that all songs in my library will be available from all my devices - including Apple TV. I've tried disabling ITunes Match on Apple TV and re-enabling it - but that did not solve the problem. Thanks.

Try signing out of iTunes Store then sign back in and turn on match on your Apple TV.

Somehow my apple id email address under homesharing on my apple tv is different than that used for homesharing on itunes in my imac. I can't access home sharing on my apple tv because of this. Can you please tell me how to change it on the apple tv in order to get homesharing to work?

I bought my ATV at the Apple store Zurich Switzerland. All the movies default to German. I hired a US movie and pressed and held the play/pause button once the movie had started but only the chapter menu displayed and there were no options to change the language (from the default German to English)
Are all movies flagged on Swiss accounts only available in German? Is there a way of pointing my ATV to a different server.

I turned on home sharing on iTunes, but when I go to apple TV to listen to music or other things it says I have to turn it on in iTunes, which I already did. I even have the account associated with the TV for purchases. What else do I have to do?

I'm not trying to sync my itunes account with my apple TV, but for some reason my apple tv (after using it for several months) is now frozen on a screen shot of Apple tv box with a cable connecting to itunes....i have unplugged the unit, reset the wireless and both haven't helped...anyone have this issue?

Resolution of Home Sharing photos with Apple TV 3?
Let's say you have an Apple TV 3 and you have configured Home Sharing so the Apple TV 3 can view the photos in iPhoto on a Mac in your network. Using the Apple TV 3, are the photos displayed on your TV from iPhoto on the Mac in 1080p? I have an Apple TV 2 and the photo resolution does not seem super great compared to directly connecting the Mac to my TV. I asked at my local Apple Store and they didn't really know.

I just got an HP Envy dv4t and it runs windows 8. My desktop, which is a Dell windows vista has all of my music on it. I'm trying to use home sharing between the two, but my HP won't pick up my dell's library, but my dell will pick up my HP's. I've tried everything imaginable and still no luck. At first, my HP would pick up my Dell library but it wouldn't load. Now it doesn't even have the library under Home Sharing. Please help!

I am trying to import songs to my new macbook pro from my old computer using home sharing. Both computers say that home sharing is now on but neither show up in each other's library menu. I am logged on with the same apple id for both computers. and both are on a stable wireless connection
Logging into itunes store on each machine wth different Apple IDs is OK Autorising each others machines with the other Apple ID is OK. This is completley separate from Home Sharing
For Home Sharing to work you need to
File > Home Sharing > Create Home Share.
You need to select one of the two Apple IDs you are using and ENTER THIS ON BOTH MACHINES WHEN CREATING THE HOME SHARE.

I just bought my apple tv yesterday and SET UP THE HOME SHARING ON MY COMPUTER, I CAN STREAM MY PHOTOS AND SEE ALL THE VIDEOS AND LISTEN SONGS IN MY ITUNES, BUT CAN NOT DO HOME SHARING, ON THE TV, ALWAYS SHOWS "TURN ON HOME SHARING ON YOUR OMPUTER WITH YOUR ID WHICH I DID BUT NOTHING HAPPEN. WHAT'S WRONG? WHAT SHALL I DO NOW?
I have found with AppleTV that it is the IPV6 on the computer you want to access is the problem. The issue is that Homegroup on Win 7 or Win 8 requires IPV6 to work, but AppleTV won't work with IPV6. (So maybe double check you have IPV6 turned off)
So you have to make a choice - Homegroup or AppleTV.... but you can't have both, until Apple brings ATV up to date. (crazy that it does not recognise IPV6 - c'mon Apple!)
You can set up sharing individually in Win 7 or 8 and have the ATV access files that way.
Having said that, there is always the exception.. I have an old HP home server running Win8 and it services ATV - but is part of the Homegroup... have no idea why it works on both, but no other machine on the home network will talk to both ATV and Homegroup at the same time!
