Home sharing or match

Is homesharing home sharing an alternative to iTunes Match?

Hi saamfou,
Here is an article that may help explain Home Sharing:
Understanding Home Sharing
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3819
Home Sharing enables you to stream or transfer music, movies, TV shows, apps, and more among up to five authorized computers in your household.
This article explains a little bit about iTunes Match:
iCloud: iTunes Match
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2588
A subscription service that gives you all the benefits of iTunes in the Cloud for music you haven’t purchased from iTunes. iTunes Match lets you store your entire collection, including music you imported from CDs or purchased somewhere other than iTunes for an annual fee.

  • HT1420 how do I know what devices have home sharing/iTunes Match. I don't think I have 5 computers setup, but the system says I do.

I like to know what devices I have on home sharing and iTunes Match. Also, how do I increase may access to more than 5 devices if needed?
    Thanks

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, click on the version twice, append the last three digits of the computer's serial number to http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/?search_keywords= , load the page, and check the computer's maximum OS version. If that's the current version, click here and read the entire page. If not, you can't use the Mac App Store version.

  • If you are using the cloud why would home sharing be used?

If I have music in the cloud and use the match what difference is there in home sharing?  do i need cloud, home sharing & the match?

    Hello theizzard
Home Sharing does more than just music, it will let you have access to Movies, TV shows and apps to either be streamed or copied between computers. If you want to control your iTunes library from your iPhone and use the Remote app, Home Sharing is required for that.

  • How do you change the home sharing id that is already in place?

I have an id I want to change for home sharing to match my fiancé's so our libraries match. How do I go about switching out the ids so I can do that?

    Hello, EOD1989.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Here are the steps that will walk you through signing out of your Apple ID and into the other to access the secondary library.

  • How to allow a second Apple ID to home sharing and iTunes Match

    Hi
    I the following setup:
Family iMac with Apple ID #1
MacBook Pro with Apple ID #1
Apple TV 2nd Gen with Apple ID #1
iPhone 3Gs with Apple ID #1 (connected for iRemote App)
iPad 1st Generation with Apple ID #1 (connected for iRemote App)
Here is what I want to do:
I wld like to enable my wife's MacBook Air with Apple ID #2 to be part of Home Sharing so she can access our joint library
I have used my Apple ID #1 to activate Home Sharing on MacBook Air (i.e. following the instruction  "use the same Apple ID for all shared computers and devices")
I receive the following message: HS could not be activated because this computer is not authorized for the account "[email protected]". Would you like to authorize now?
If I do I get the following message: There was an error storing your authorization information on this computer.
The required file was not found or has a permission orror. Correct this permission problem and try again, or deauthorize this computer if the permissions cannot be changed.
This is where I am stuck in the process: can anybody help?
In addition I was wondering if my wife yould also make use of my subscription to iTunes Match since it refers t the same familiy music library. Any thoughts and/or instructions on that would be helpful as well
    Cheers,

Can I create a 4th 'Apple ID' for our home sharing?
    yes.
Would we still be able to listen to each others libraries?
    yes.
a single iTunes can be authorized for up to five iTunes store accounts.
Would we still be able to copy songs from one another, like I can with my 1 account between computers?
    yes.
Are there any other downsides to creating a separate account for home sharing?
    none i'm aware of.

When I click on the Music tab on my Apple TV 2, a message tells me I have to set up iTunes Match to stream music from my iTunes library on my iMac. I don't want to set up and pay for iTunes Match. How can I get back to the pre-Match system which let me just use home sharing to stream music from computer to Aple TV

    Ditto.
You need to look for your itunes library under Computers and select it, then music.
Music column is for web based content not local content, just to confuse everyone.

  • Can I use iTunes Match while I'm away from Home, and my family still use Home Sharing via Apple TV?

I would like to be able to use my iTunes Match account as I am frequently away from home.
However, my family would also like to be able to use Home Sharing to listen to music, watch movies stored on the family iMac, using the Apple TV.
At the moment, iTunes Match & Apple Store uses a different Apple ID to Home Sharing.  I don't want the kids to be able to download movies etc on the Apple TV.
Is there a way that I can achieve both at the same time?

Yes, iTunes Match alleviates this situation.  As long as iTunes on both of your computers is using the same Apple ID, you can add songs to either one, and once they have uploaded to iCloud, they will be available on any of your iDevices AND in iTunes on the other computer.

  • On iTunes 11, how can I access home sharing if the music is from a CD? Is there any way I can download these songs if (A) I no longer have the CD, or (B) I do not want to pay $25 a year for iTunes Match?

Yes, you can copy songs that you ripped from a CD to your Home Sharing computer.
Turn on Home Sharing first on both computers.  To do that, go to File > Home Sharing > Turn on Home Sharing.  Enter your Apple ID and password.
Now go to your computer that you want to copy the songs to and connect to your Home Share.  You can do that by clicking on the popover button located at the left top corner right below the play control buttons.  Click on it and scroll to the bottom until you see your Home Share and select it.
Go to Music in your Home Share.  Select the songs that you want to copy in your Home Share and click Import at the bottom right corner.

  • Home sharing and itunes match

    Hello,
Does anyone know how itunes match and home sharing are working together?
Basically at home I'm using home sharing. Me and my partner are sharing the music.
On our iphones, home sharing is activated with my account as reference.
What will happen with itunes match?
Can I upload in the cloud with my account some songs from my partner library?
Will we have access to songs from both library with itunes match from our iphones? Is activating home sharing on the iphone sufficient to see songs from both libraries on both iphones, or do we need to subscribe to itunes match 2 times?
    Regards,
    Victor

I don't have iTunes Match, but am having the same problem with Home Sharing on Apple TV (Apple TV does not seem to see the computer).

All of your computers content are available in the AppleTV section called "Computer".  This is where you will find your music.
The Music section of the AppleTV is only for those who subscribed to iTunes Match.

If you are attempting to share to both at the same time, you can't.
Are you selecting the second AppleTV in home sharing options on the MBP. Are all devices signed in for Home Sharing with the same AppleID?

  • ITunes Match and Home Sharing

My husband and I use Home Sharing, and we can access each other's music (purchased under our own Apple IDs). Does iTunes Match support Home Sharing or do we both need an annual subscription for iTunes Match?

    Jkopp wrote:
Is there any way to set this up so she can access the iTunes Match but also keep her apps and such her own.
    No.
    Jkopp wrote:
The only solution I see is that she will have to log in as me when she wants to listen to music and then log out and back in as her for everything else she wants to do.  Is this correct?
iTunes Match does not work this way. The service is associated with one iTunes Store Apple ID and the geographical store used to purchase items. The service cannot be shared among Apple IDs. Additionally, if iTunes Match or automatic downloads are enabled, or if past purchases are re-downloaded using one Apple ID the computer or device is then associated to that Apple ID for 90 days and is locked out of logging into another Apple ID for 90 days.

  • How can i access my home shared videos from my iPad2 if I now have iTunes match?

how can i access my home shared videos from my iPad2 if I now have iTunes match?

That's exactly what I meant, but for some reason Home Sharing stopped working on my iPad2 once I activated iTunes Match.
Since then, I waited for iTunes Match to finish setting up and scanning my iTunes library on my MacBook Pro and I restarted my iPad2. Both Home Sharing and iTunes Match are now up and running smoothly!
    Thanks for the reply!

  • AppleTV home sharing, I can't see my itunes match songs

I am using a new Apple TV. I set up home sharing, but I am unable to see my itunes match songs. I used my wifes itunes account for the apple TV. I am using my account for the home sharing. I have an itunes match account with a large library. I though that I would be able to use home sharing to access all of my songs. Now I'm having issues. Please help.

Try Store > Update iTunes Match from iTunes' menu.
