Home sharing password
I forgot my home sharing password. I did it a long time ago and cannot remember it. Is there any way I can restore it?
Tks!
Just to clarify, both machines are on the same local network aren't they I.e. Both at your home and connected to the same router?
If I was you I wouldn't use Shared Libraries but instead use Home Sharing. In iTunes go to Preferences and then the Sharing. Uncheck both Share My Library on my local network and also Look for Shared Libraries, and OK this.
Now follow the instructions in the following article on both machines to enable Home Sharing. Use your iTunes Store username and password where prompted.

Hope this helps.

TS2972 I have forgotten my home sharing password - how do i reset it ?
Please help = how do I reset my home sharing password in Itunes ?
Hi BFW99X,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
The password used when setting up Home Sharing is your Apple ID password. If you're having trouble logging into iTunes with your Apple ID and password, reset the password by following the steps found here:
Apple ID: If you forget your password

Hi, I forgot my home sharing password and have not been able to find how to reset it. My apple id is fine but no password.
Hello there, geradino.
Your Home Sharing password is directly related to your Apple ID. The following Knowledge Base article explains that a bit more clearly:
iTunes: How to share music and video
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2688
Additionally under "Understanding the differences between Home Sharing and Music Sharing" we read:
Home Sharing requires more setup, but allows you to transfer content to another computer or stream to other devices. It always requires your Apple ID and password to see the library and contents.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

Don't know Home Sharing password :-/
Hi, just a bit stuck, have recently got a new laptop and trying to turn on the home sharing but I don't know what my password is, have tried all the passswords that I use for other things but none of them work. Is there any way I can have it e-mailed it to me or something?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!Look to the right of your post to the column, "More Like This" ----------->

Apple TV home sharing password re-entry
I have a Mac Mini and an Apple TV, both on the same network (wired gigabit). Home sharing is turned on for both devices and I can view the Mac Mini from the Apple TV (via the "Computers" link). I can also stream iTunes purchased movies and content without any issues. So all good so far.
From time to time I get prompted on the Apple TV to re-enter my Apple ID. This seems to coincide with a network outage, but I'm not certain, it may also coincide with power cycling one or both devices. Naturally if I try to recreate the conditions causing the password prompt everything works perfectly.
Can anyone provide an insight as to when an Apple TV will prompt for re-entry of an Apple ID/password that is known to be valid? I'm being prompted when attempting to select video from the Mac Mini - not when I purchase content from iTunes.
Thanks,
Tony.Home sharing has nothing to do with Netflix.

Home Sharing password problem.
I cannot connect to home sharing as it is saying that my password is incorrect. However, it is not as I am still able to sign into the iTunes store with it. Any ideas?
iTunes 10.4.1
Lion 10.7.1
It will also not connect on my iPhone.https://discussions.apple.com/message/16062913#16062913

A Shared library is different than Home Sharing (as you now know).

Home sharing password incorrect
all of a sudden I cannot turn on home sharing through iTunes. I changed my password to 8 characters like it said, works for iTunes Store for purchases, but not for Home Sharing. Dont understand why it worked before and not now? Anyone out there can help me with this?
Have had the exact same problem for weeks. Still unsolved, and i have bad news: apple couldn't care less.

HT203311 where is my password for Home Sharing
In Home Sharing they ask for Apple ID and 'Home Sharing' password. Where do I find my home sharing password?
The shared library name should be whatever appears in the box Library Name when you look at Edit > Preferences > General tab.

For home sharing purposes only, my Apple TV does not recognize my new apple ID username and password. The on screen message calls for me to use my computer to
home sharing is not set on the appletv but on the itunes program on the computer which lib one wish to share
the home share password need not be the appleID password as homeshare is also meant to share your media with others on your LAN network whom you may not wish to know your appleID password
so home sharing password is set seperately in ituens on your computer -
I can use the Remote app on my iphone to connect with my itunes library on my computer, but I can't connect to the Apple TV using home sharing with another computer in the house. I am using the same ID and password that the apple tv uses to connect with the other computer. Also how do I check what version of IOS that my iphone is using?
Version:
iOS Settings>General About (or it'll say when you hook it up to iTunes)
Are all the devices on the same physical network? I think you're saying all are set up using the same home sharing credentials.
If you've not done so restart all devices and your router.
If you can get any of the devices connected by ethernet to reduce the wifi burden that may help but to be honest I would not expect simply beoing on wifi to prevent devices/computers appearing in the list.
Does the other computer have any firewall or port blocking software running? -
Does home sharing allow my husband and I to share our iTunes content? If so, how does this work? From what I've read to use home sharing the devices/computers all require the same Apple ID and password. My husbands iTunes is linked to his email/password and mine is my email/password. So if that's the case how to we go about sharing? God I hope that makes sense.
All apps are forever tied to the Apple ID that bought them. To stop your id from popping up, you need to delete the apps on his phone, and then repurchase them under his account.

I got new Apple TV 10 days back, its not asking for the WIFI password.Home sharing is not working,i am getting Error while streaming videos from Youtube.
I can only see pics and video saved in my iphone. No other options are working. The worst part is that its not asking wifi passoword.
Not able to connect istores and itunes.
I cannot do software update. Can anyone help in this content? Thanks Brian- I am not connecting it with iphone teethering. I am using it with my DSL wifi.
I am using it with ethernet cable then its working fine.If i am trying to use it with WIFI then its giving error.
I tried using Netwrok testing but its giving same error. -
Really I can't believe how pathetic Apple products are at allowing people under the hood of certain settings or giving you some clue to what error messages mean. My password is entered properly on all devices I'm trying to use Home Sharing on, all check boxes are checked yet the iPad still cannot discover what is on the PC's iTunes list. I've tried everything in all of the forums on this site and nothing works, there is no Music>More>Sharing box that pops up. Also there is no Airplay button in my iTunes on my PC. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode|Firefox Safe Mode]] is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings and disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
''(If you're using an added theme, switch to the Default theme.)''
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu by clicking on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item:

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the '''option''' key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run ''firefox -safe-mode''
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]] article to find the cause.
''To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.
Thank you. -
Have a problem with Home Sharing with Apple TV and iTunes. Have latest iTunes and Apple TV downloads. Have both items set up for home sharing with same address and passwords. AppleTV running fine for everything else. FYI, my library is about 60gigs. AppleTV model is MD199LL/A if that matters. Really want to hear my entire music library and not just Purchased items. Thanks for any help!!!
I have an older PC with Windows XP Professional on it. I updated to the latest iTunes and I am able to access the photos, etc. on it. However, my Windows 7 PC still does work (since last Apple TV update). Apple TV does not recognize that Home Sharing is turned here. The latter PC has all my current photos on it which I would like share with others on my Apple TV. A fix would be appreciated.
