Home sharing Primary Library on IPAD

Hi Everyone
I have home sharing setup for music on my IPAD. However the home sharing library is the secondary library on the IPAD. Everytime I open the iPad I have to go to shared>and click the correct library.
I have deleted all the music from the iPad library it is using as the main one however it is still showing up and accessing it first.
How I do I completely delete the music library on the iPad so it only reads the home sharing one?
Thanks for your help

Hey jamieryan157,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, you are having trouble with Home Sharing only on one iOS device. It looks like you have already done some troubleshooting. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • Home Sharing from Mac to iPad vs. Mac to AppleTV 2

Some odd quirks about Home Sharing from a Mac to the iPad, vs. from a Mac to AppleTV 2.
I'm seeing duplicates of some of my TV Seasons on the iPad (like, 3 identical icons that claim to be the same Season 2 of a series-the contents are identical). Meanwhile, some TV seasons don't show up at all.
Also, episodes seem once again out of order; this was an issue originally with AppleTV 2, which I fixed by adding both track numbers and season episode numbers.
All my content looks great in AppleTV 2 now-on the iPad..not so much I know the content all plays fine on all 3 devices, so it's not a format issue I don't think. Curious if anyone else is seeing some odd Home Sharing contents on their iPads/iPhones as well.

I am seeing an issue as well. It seems that when using Home Share on my iPad, that the directory listing of for example my TV shows is not complete. What I am seeing is that it only displays a subset of the entire catalog of TV shows in my iTunes Library. I notices that from A through S shows were present but nothing thereafter. So I changed the names of the TV Shows to start with an A for example and they did show up but then several shows dropped off the end of the listing. I concluded that the issue is not an alphabetical issue but just a limited amount of entries within the directory can be displayed.... obviously a bug within the iPad current release of 4.3. I do notice that the iPhone ver of IOS doesn't seem to have the problem. Also it does display several of the identical TV shows as well as mentioned in prior messages.

  • ATV3 New Update Breaks Home Sharing Music Library Streaming (Again)

Windows 7 user here using Apple TV 3.  Overall, I love the device, when it works right.
When I first got it, using the Home Sharing Music Library feature from the Apple TV (in other words, pulling content from the computer) was broken in that it would play for a while, then suddenly stop.  There was a *huge* thread on this where many people seemed to experience it.
I was so happy when the last AppleTV update fixed this (for me anyways, and I'd guess many others) - since then (months) it worked flawlessly until today, when the ATV prompted me for an update.  Now it's even worse than before and appears to play the first song, then immediately get stuck on the second.  =(  Anyone else having this issue?
Fortunately, my workaround works, which is "pushing" content from my computer, but this isn't nearly as convenient for a variety of reasons (including much less control via the AppleTV if I'm just relaxing and listening).
I truly hope Apple can resolve this quickly, since they had it nailed before...

Luke, I can confirm the bugs with the latest AppleTV software, version 5.  It doesn't matter if it is an ATV2 or ATV3 because they are running the same OS version.  There are Home Sharing problems because immediately after I updated my ATV2, I started having Home Sharing problems when trying to play any video from my iMac.  The link between the Mac and the ATV2 breaks and it bumps back to the main menu with no computers displayed.  Quitting iTunes and re-launching fixes the problem, but it isn't guaranteed.  Sometimes you will get lucky and it will remain connected, other times, it will break the link again, after another 5 minutes.  And, it won't remember your place in the video when the link breaks.
The other major bug is that TV shows are displayed out of order.  Apple has confirmed the TV show order bug, but haven't heard anything on the Home Sharing bug.  I have reported that one to Apple.  Hopefully we will get a software update soon.

  • Home sharing between pc/iPhone iPad

Having trouble with home sharing between pc and iPad. Pc to iPhone 4S works smooth however pc to iPad is not recognized,  same network same pc,
Apple Id is enabled on the iPad 2 same Id  on pc. Should be able to home share with more the one device I assume!! One never knows with Appel
    All answers are welcomed thanks

Just updated I tunes to latest and installed IOS 7 on Iphone and can no longer get Home Sharing:
Apple TV - Now doesnt connect
    Iphone - same
    Ipad - same
    Not happy!

  • Could not connect to " home shared iTunes library name "

I'm having an issue with iTunes/ Apple TV. Actually it has been ongoing. I have a particular iTunes library shared on a private subnet (together with the Apple TVs) from a Mac Mini. I can connect and play content any time with iTunes on another computer 100% reliably. But around 60% of the time when I try to connect to it from any of my four Apple TV (2's) an error comes up saying "Could not connect to "<home shared iTunes library name>" ", "Make sure the computer is on the same network as your Apple TV. the iTunes version is up to date and iTunes is running". The answer to those questions (as always with such messages is obviously 'yes':
Yes of course we are on the same network. If I wasn't, the library wouldn't have even shown up in the first place before selecting it
Yes iTunes as always is the latest version thanks to Mac Software Update
    Again 'dah'. See response #1
If I restart the offending iTunes library the error is resolved (although sometimes it does require reboot of the Apple TV) but could reappear as early as within the next 24 hours. This issue has been occuring for a very long time however appears to be increasing in frequency. It occured as well on the Apple TV (v1).
Anyone with clues on what's going on here?
    Thanks
    Greg

I agree that the first debug point should be the network. Though like Greg, I use a Mac Mini to serve up movies to a couple of Apple TVs. From the 'problem' Apple TV, I could see other iTunes movie libraries on other Mac(s), and those would work/play fine. It's only when I try to connect to the iTunes Library of the Mac Mini that I have this issue. It's almost like it's asleep, and doesn't respond. Though I can mount the library folder, and play movies from other Macs w/o a problem while the Apple TV still has the problem.
As Greg mentions, closing and re-opening iTunes on the Mini solves the issue (though only temporarily).
The only difference that I have (non-consistency) is that my Mac Mini is an older model, and cannot be upgraded to run Lion (10.7.x) like my other Macs. The Mini is running 10.6.8, and iTunes 10.6.1 (32-bit). My Macs are running 10.7.3 and the 64-bit version of iTunes 10.6.1.
Is it possible it could be a 10.6 vs. a 10.7 issue? Greg, which version of OS X are your Macs running?

  • Ipad home sharing partial library

I have iTunes 11.0.4.4 running on Windows 8.  Home Sharing is enabled, and I can see the library from my iPad (iOS 5.1.1, all latest updates installed).
When I go to my iPad, tap "Videos," and then tap "Shared," I get only a portion of my video library from the source computer.  Oddly, I get everything except the  "last" season of my TV shows.
If I have 4 season of a show, only the first 3 show up.  This is consistent across four shows -- 4 seasons, I only get three, 20 seasons, i only get 19, 7 seasons, i only get 6.
I've rebuilt the library.itl file using the .xml rebuild instructions, and the library appears to be fine.  Similarly, when I plug the iPad in to the computer and physically transfer the files, there doesn't seem to be a problem.
    Help?

On the iPad sign out of Home Sharing then sign back in

  • Home Sharing between pc and ipad. Where is the library and sharing icon on ipad?

Hi, I have followed the exact Apple instructions on how to set up Home sharing on both Pc and ipad2. However when going to music app or videos app, I see no icon for the library or shared library as shown on the screen shots. Tried to see supports troubleshooting, but there is no indications on how , where and when these Libraries should show up. There is something saying you should immediately create a library on your ipad, but no instructions on how to do so. So for any of you with a successfull sharing setup between pc and ipad, any tips are appreciated. I.e. When and where will the shared library show up on the ipad if it ever will?

When you turn on Home Sharing on your PC you will only see the Sharing option in the sidebar if other computers on your network also have iTunes running with Home Sharing turned on as well.
As for how to get it to work on your iPhone go into Settings on your iPhone and scroll down to Music. Tap on the Music settings button. On the Music screen, in the Home Sharing section enter the Apple ID and password that you use on your PC.
Now go back to your Home screen. Launch the Music app. Tab on the More button on the bottom of the screen. On the More screen tap on the Shared button. You should see a list of all available shared iTunes libraries on your network. Make sure iTunes is running on on your PC with home Sharing turned on. You should now see all the music on your PC's shared library. You will not however be able to wirelessly transfer the music from the shared library to your iPhone. You will only be able to play it.

  • How do I setup home sharing on my new ipad

How do I setup home sharing on my Ipad ? I just installed an Apple TV and want to display content. Thanks

Once sharing is set up for both devices, go into the Music or Video App, and look for the Air Play icon .
Tap it to get a list of devices you can send content to, one should be your Apple Tv.
Tap it to select it and start plaing anything you want. It should show up on the Tv.

If you want to stream content from your computer, then setup Homesharing there, and then use the "Computers" Tab on the Aple Tv menu screen to access the shared library.

  • How do I copy home sharing content to my iPad so it is available off-line

My iPad is not synchronised with my Mac, I use iCloud. How do I transfer an album from iTunes on my Mac that is shared using home sharing to my iPad so that it is also available when I am off line? (similar to synching when plugging the iPad into iTunes on the Mac and selecting the album for synching)

It's just not possible. A project can only be worked on in the library that contains it.

  • ITunes Home Sharing for video on iPad with different account

My husband has a separate iTunes account from mine, however I run our media servers at home where I have a library of movies running through iTunes which we view via Apple TV and other devices.
He has his iPad set to - Settings/Videos/HomeSharing/His-Apple_ID
The question is - if I CHANGE THIS to - Settings/Videos/HomeSharing/MY-Apple_ID
(so he can view my iTunes library)
Does this mess up his usage/connection to his iTunes account - in any other area of the iPad?
In other words - can the Home Sharing Apple ID be different than one's personal Apple ID on an iPad for purposes of viewing?
It would actually be nice if we were allowed to keep multiple accounts to connect to for this for moving to different locations and sharing...

  • Is it possible to see two libraries via home sharing on a single ipad at the same time?

I have an iMac with an itunes library (and unique Apple ID) and a MacBook Pro with a different itunes library (and different Apple ID).  I would like to see both libraries at the same time on my iPad.  So far, I have only been able to figure out how to see a single library at a time.  I see the library associated with the Apple ID entered in the home sharing setting.  Again, I want my ipad to see both libraries at the same time.  I don;t want to have to keep changing the Apple ID setting in home sharing on my ipad to see a different library.

Use the same ID for homesharing on all devices, the ID used for homesharing does not need to be the same as the one used for the iTunes Store on each device.
You will see both libraries in the sharing option and be able to load either without changing any settings. It won't however combine both libraries into one list of content.

  • Sharing Aperture library with iPad: a little annoyance...

When editing a photo with a 3rd party plugin (or Photoshop), Aperture creates a 2nd version in TIF or JPG. This image is stacked with the main image. 9 times out of 10, the image edited should become the primary image I want to see, with the RAW (or original master) becoming a backup in the stack.
I wish there was an option for iTunes/iPad to sync only the top image of the stacks within a giving event. If anyone knows of a way to do this currently please let me know.
    Thanks!

PS: all of the image files are actually stored on a NAS box and mounted via AFP. I tried moving the Aperture library to the NAS box but the performance was atrocious. so I kept the library on Macintosh HD and just reference the picture files from the NAS share.
That is the safest solution. The Aperture library should reside on a local volume, MacOS X extended formatted. Your NAS probably is neither local nor formatted MacOS X extended, see
Aperture: Use locally mounted Mac OS X Extended volumes for your Aperture library
I am trying to share the library with my wife so that each of us can retain our separate accounts and preferences and be able to edit/print/add pictures to the library
Aperture is a single User program. Only one of you can use Aperture at a time. So you hvae to quit Aperture in your account, before your wife can launch it from her account. Also make sure that iPhoto is not using the library.
One big problem with sharing a Library are permissions and ownerships. When you make changes to an Aperture Library and add images, you are the owner of the added images. The safest way to share a library therefore would be to put it on an external volume or onto a separate partition of your hard drive. Then you can set the "Ignore ownership on this volume" flag and share the data with out permission problems. To set this flag on a volume, select it in the Finder and use "File > Get info" from the Finder's main menu bar (or press cmd-I).

  • Home sharing purchased books between ipad two ipads (mini)

    Hello,
I have turned on home sharing on my itune account.
My husband can see it on his itune account.
I have a book I purchased from the itunes and it is on my ipad mini.
How do I get the book onto his mini?
    Thank you
    Susie

    Hi
I set up the home sharing on my Mac Itunes.
My husband has a PC but it doesn't matter. He could see my music library but not my book library, yet the home sharing says and displays books in the images of a library.
I wish it was defined what could be shared and what can not be shared.  I purchased it from Itunes (Billy Crystals Book - Just Foolin') Great read!! very funny.
Instead my husband reading on my ipad we figured we could share..if you can share purchased music from Itunes, why not books...copy right is copy right..you can give someone a book! same thing.
Look forward to some answers, maybe even from apple!
This is not our first ipads. I am totally apple everything..

  • Why can't I find the home sharing icon on my iPad?

I've tried all the suggestions posted here and on other sites but to no avail...what am I missing?  Thnx

It took about 25 minutes for my new iPad to actually see my home shared library...Got to "Music app" — It is under the "more" button, look for "shared" house icon... If this doesn't show up (as you mentioned) try restarting your modem (internet router).  Obviously you have to use the same Apple ID and password on all your shared devices.. It's a shame that the SHARED button isn't it's own app on the main screen of the iPad... seems like a no brainer, huh APPLE? WHy should we have to dig for the darn thing?

  • Home sharing not working on ipad with different account name but same apple id that was created, what to do?

PC is set up for home sharing and 2 iPads and 1 iPhone is sharing fine.  1 iPad and 1 iPhone is not home sharing.  The only difference on the devices not working is that the Apple account name is [email protected] while the Apple ID is [email protected] which is also the Apple ID used in creating Home Sharing and is the account used on the devices that are working.  Do they need to be the same?  My wife has her own iTunes account.  If they are the same how would her purchases be charged to her account?  Thank you for any help.
