Home sharing - sharing rating (stars) and playlists

Is there some way, how can I sync playlists? On one computer I have some database of music, which is rated and where I have some playlists. On second computer I have almost the same music, so I don't need to copy the files from my playlist from first mac to second mac, I just need to copy the playlist.
O for example if I rate song on one computer, I want the second computer sync it.
Is that possible?

you can export playlist(s) on machine "A" via file > library > export playlist, move the resulting .txt file via your network (or by way of an USB flash drive) to machine "B", and import the .txt file there. it will import as a playlist and will contain ratings and playcounts.

  • Rating songs and playlists help

    Hi,
I've just got a I Pod Nano. I know how to rate the songs using the stars. But was wondering if I can then make the i pod play the songs that I've rated as good. I like to organise my i pod in terms of album and artists (I make a new playlist for each artist or album). I don't want to make a playlist of all my favourite songs in addition to the songs being in the playlist of each artist/album and therefore have the songs on twice using up space. I just want the i pod to recognise which I've rated highly and play them without putting the songs on twice!
Hope this makes sense, I got my I Pod as a free gift and knew nothing whatsoever about it before I got it!!

I make a new playlist for each artist or album)
    Why? iTunes already does this.
Go to Music -> Artist and it will show all albums by that artist.
Or go to Music -> Albums and it will show all albums.
You can create Smart playlists whcih do what you want.
There are a few by default already in iTunes. Recently added, Top 25, etc.
Go to File -> New Smart playlist and create new ones and see what you come up with.
All songs rated 4 or 5 star and not heard in last month.
All songs in Genre Rock and Added in last two weeks.
If you have a large library, iTunes will Automatically create a new playlist which fits. To put on your own selections prevent this, go to iTunes prefs -> iPod and select Automatically update only selected playlists and select those you want.

  • Filter Import by Number of Rating Stars and other such

My work flow is to look at the card with Nikon ViewNX2, and assign rating stars to the keepers, then import the keepers
into Lightroom.  I  can't see the stars in the import dialog, though I can see them once I  do the import.  LR clearly
understands the rating stars because it can import them.  I'd like to be able to see the rating stars in the import dialog and
filter on them at import time.  I suspect that there are others out there that would like to filter on color labels and the flags.
Why not use Lightroom for the review?  I sometimes don't have the Lightroom computer with me, or any computer at all.
Nikon ViewNX2 is free, and I can install it on whatever computer is handy.  It's also fast, and understands dual monitors.
Simliar logic applies to BreezeBrowser and even the free Microsoft software.
There was some discussion of this in http://forums.adobe.com/thread/724396?tstart=0.

  • How do I transfer my iTunes library to a new computer?  I have transferred purchased music but wish to transfer the rest of my library.  Home sharing isn't responding and the computers are going to be in different locations.

How do I transfer my iTunes library from my old computer to my new one?  I have successfully transferred purchased music but not my library of CDs.  Home sharing will not work, and isn't working in fact, as the computers will be in different countries.

Assuming your library is in the default location and all of the media is stored within the library's media folder then this is what you need to do:
Copy the entire iTunes folder from <User's Music> on the source computer to <User's Music> on the target computer.
You can do this directly over a network (making use of shared network folders) or by making a copy on an external drive, moving the drive between computers, and copying again. Any way that works is good. However if you say that you cannot use Home Sharing (doesn't work properly anyway) because the source and target are not on the same network then method 2 as I describe it won't work either.
Your playlists, play counts, ratings etc. are stored inside the database iTunes Library.itl which is inside the iTunes folder and a successful migration includes all of this information, not just the media files. I recommend method 1 from the earlier link as it sets you up with a backup mechanism to use in future. All hard drives fail eventually and often without warning, or at least a warning that is noticed and then heeded.
If the initial assumption is wrong, or you need help checking, just ask.

  • Does home sharing allow my husband and I to share our itunes content?  If so, how do we do that since it requires the use of the same Apple ID and password on each device to do so.  His itunes is linked to his email and mine is linked to my email...

Does home sharing allow my husband and I to share our iTunes content?  If so, how does this work?  From what I've read to use home sharing the devices/computers all require the same Apple ID and password.  My husbands iTunes is linked to his email/password and mine is my email/password.  So if that's the case how to we go about sharing?  God I hope that makes sense.

All apps are forever tied to the Apple ID that bought them. To stop your id from popping up, you need to delete the apps on his phone, and then repurchase them under his account.

The iPad is new today so pleeeease help! I have the latest version of iTunes and both iPhone and iPad are up to date. I have never had a problem with home sharing before 10.5 iTunes. Both mobile devices can eventually see the shared library but load it as though it is empty. This applies to movies as well. I have turned off home sharing on the mac and restarted it. I have also made sure that the username and password on both mobile devices are correct. Help!

This has solved loads of people who have this issue and have used an alternate DNS setting.  Below are instructions for both iPhone OTA and on you Mac
If you are getting the error message "Unable to check for update" when you try an OTA (over the air update)
    Change DNS Servers
    Settings -> Wi-Fi
Click the blue arrow on your connected network
Delete everything in DNS and replace it with 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220
    Try again
If this works, you will probably want to remove the WiFi network using "Forget This Network" and then reconnect to it to get your original DNS servers back. Alternatively, make a note of the original DNS servers before deleting them and replace it after you are done.
If you are getting the error message "Unable to check for update" when you try through iTunes
    On your Mac
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Network.
Select the network connection service you want to use (such as Wi-Fi or Ethernet, unless you named it something else) from the list, and then click Advanced.
Click DNS, and then click Add at the bottom of the DNS Servers list. Enter the IPv4 address for the DNS server.
    You can use OpenDNS
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    or
You can Google Public DNS if you want
    8.8.8.8
    8.8.4.4
I have actually repointed my routers DNS so all my devices now point to OpenDNS servers

    See this post.
Assuming AVG is involved there is a new patch which may resolve the issue. Update AVg before attempting to recover the library.

All of your computers content are available in the AppleTV section called "Computer".  This is where you will find your music.
The Music section of the AppleTV is only for those who subscribed to iTunes Match.

  • HT203970 Home Sharing fix is unreliable and not permanent

Going by other posts on the Apple Forums, this fix is unreliable and not permanent...
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6601112?tstart=0
The fact that this article exists indicates that Apple are aware of the issue yet nothing has been done to resolve it since Yosemite was released over 3 months ago. As of 31st January, I am running OS X 10.10.2 with iTunes 12.1.0.50 and the latest Apple TV firmware yet this issue still occurs.
As with other people that have encountered this problem, one of the suggested fixes may work but none of them are reliable i.e. one may work one day, another on a different day and some days I can't get it to work at all. Some of the fixes that have worked at one time or another are as follows: -
Reboot the Apple TV (this is the simplest fix but now works less frequently than it used to)
    Restart iTunes
In "iTunes > File", turn off Home Sharing, turn Home Sharing back on again and restart iTunes
In "System Preferences > Sharing", change the computer name then restart iTunes (this is the Apple recommended fix).
In "iTunes > Preferences > General", change the library name and restart iTunes.
Turn off the "iTunes > Preferences > Sharing" functionality. Some people have commented that this conflicts with the Home Sharing feature. I don't know how or why let alone what the difference is between Sharing and Home Sharing. The Apple documentation is a bit ordinary in this regard.
Various combinations of the above or the reverse.
I don't know if this problem is related to the OS X Computer Name automatically changing issue ...
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6631728?tstart=0
I have that problem as well so I tried a workaround for that problem...
    http://ispire.me/fix-yosemite-rtc-alarm-wakeup-issue/
The computer name has stopped automatically changing but the Apple TV still has problems.
    Any ideas?

  • TS1453 Home sharing isn't working and I can't seem to get it fixed.

When I try to go under computers on my Apple TV (2nd Gen), it says "Loading Jennifer's Library" for several minutes before I get an error telling me "Could not connect to Jennifer's Library. Make sure the computer is on the same network as your Apple tv, the itunes version is up to date, and itunes is running." I've tried literally everything short of completely reformatting my computer and I'm not doing that.
-Both my computer and apple tv are hooked up to the correct router.
-I checked the internet connection on the tv, it's in working condition.
-All my software, both on my Apple TV and on my computer are up to date.
-I have restarted itunes and my apple tv.
-I've done a reset on the apple tv.
-I've turned off homesharing on my computer and tv for 1 minute and turned it back on.
    -I've restarted my router.
    -I've restarted my modem.
-My router software is up to date.
I can play music from my computer onto my TV but as soon as I try to play my movie, which I've watched before on my apple tv and know it works, I get "An error occurred loading this content. Try again later."
I'm at a loss for what I should do next. Everything I've tried has failed. If you have any suggestions, I'd be very appreciative.

    Home sharing isn't working either
Which is why you can not use the remote app.  Did you turn on home sharing on your computer and on ATV?
eve though they have the same Apple ID.
Did you enter the ApplieID in the home sharing login though?  Or just in for the iTunes store, or iCloud, or photo sharing, or something else?
Home sharing isn't working either, I can't play or transmit any video from my iPad to the Apple TV because it doesn't recognize it
That would be AirPlay, not homesharing.  THey are not related.  Did you enable air play on all the devices?
Have you run the network test tools on ATV?  Can ATV access the iTunes store, Netflix, etc?
