Home Sharing to IPOD..

I have a QNAP server with all my music.
I can see the QNAP in ITunes under sharing, but I can not transfer the music to my IPOD.
Is there anyone that can help
Johnny

I'm not familiar with QNAP but I can guess what is going on.
The QNAP server is making the music available to iTunes using some form of sharing that iTunes can recognize.
Since the music isn't directly part of the iTunes library, it is using sharing from the QNAP server to see it, the iPod cannot sync to it when you connect it to your computer.
What you need to do is copy the music to the iTunes library before you can sync it to the iPod.
The other thing you can try is to set iTunes to make the files on the QNAP server its library. To do this go in to preference in iTunes, click on the Advanced button on the toolbar. Change the location for the iTunes Media folder to the folder on the QNAP server holding the music. If you do this, make sure you uncheck the box for 'Keep iTunes Media folder organized' as that may re-organize the folders on the QNAP server and it may not work any more.

  • Shared libraries / home sharing and iPod touch

i have never had nor used an iphone or ipod touch, but am considering an iPod touch. i would really like to be able to see, organize, and play shared libraries. eg:
    - use my touch to access the Mac upstairs that has all my music on it's itunes
    - build or choose a playlist
    - play from that machine to my airtunes, viewing the playlist through itunes on the touch
    is this possible?
    thanks!

    Setting up Home Sharing
Note: To stream your iTunes library to your iPod touch, you will need iOS 4.3 or later.
On your iPod touch, tap Settings > Music.
In the Home Sharing section, enter the same Apple ID and password you entered on your computer (or computers) and tap the return button.
    Playing Home Sharing content
To watch shared videos on your iPod touch, tap Videos > Shared and select a shared library.
To listen to shared music on your iPod touch, tap Music > More… > Shared and select a shared library.
Note: If your iPod touch does not have a locally store library, you will enter your shared library in the Music and Videos apps immediately when you open them.
    Additional Information
If you receive an error message saying that your device was "Unable to turn on Home Sharing", then you may have entered your password incorrectly. Tap OK and try again.

  • Home Sharing prevents iPod playlist menu from scrolling‽

I've run into a problem where my playlist menu can become hidden underneath the "Now Playing" box in the iPod app on the iPad 1. The menu can scroll, but as soon as I lift my finger the bottom playlists drop back underneath the "Now Playing" box. This prevents me from selecting them. The culprit is Home Sharing. As soon as I have a WiFi connection, Home Sharing kicks in and the "Library" option appears at the top left. From this point on, the bottom of my playlists becomes unaccessible.
The obvious solution is to either shut off Home Sharing (which I have done in preferences on my iPad. It's painfully slow anyway, especially compared to using the Remote app) or I could sync fewer playlists. But neither solution is elegant. This should just work. I was wondering if anybody else had run into this problem, and I was wondering if you had heard of a solution.
Here's a screen cap of the issue: https://skitch.com/darkstream/r7iku/ipad-home-sharing-menu-glitch

I didn't realize we could post pix now, so here is the linked graphic so you don't have to leave this site.
Looks like somebody else has run into this problem (https://discussions.apple.com/message/15005124#15005124). They found a workaround using Search, but I haven't tried it yet. I'm hoping other people will sound off here. I'm curious to know if others have experienced this.

to make things a little more easy, i'd perfer to have all my itunes on a network drive for all pc's connected to one itunes and scratch the home sharing itunes to view under another itunes.
Only problem im having is that wrong pictures are showing up for movie/tv show connecting to different computers conecting to one itunes library.

  • APSdaemon and Home Sharing?

    Hi all,
Just wanted to post an issue that just this week I started having and figure out what is going on.  I have iTunes 10.5.2 loaded on my Windows 7 desktop and up until this week have had no issues with it.  Other than putting in a new router, I haven't changed anything with my machine configuration.  Now, when I start iTunes, I immediately get an hourglass and it hangs.  I noticed "apsdaemon" running in my list of processes and like others on this forum, once I closed it iTunes started up without any problems.  Other than the fact that now I can't sync my devices wirelessly which was nice.
Now it won't sync with my older Apple TV (doesn't show under Devices) and on my newer ATV 2 upstairs, it doesn't list my desktop under "Computers" for sharing.  I have home sharing selected in iTunes and it was showing up under the "Shared" heading on the left side of iTunes.  The ATV2 shows my home movies, playlists, etc so it obviously is locating iTunes...but for some reason the home sharing is broken.
Would the APSdaemon process being closed have something to do with the broken ATV connections?  I haven't restarted my ATV's yet so I will give that a shot.  I have the firewall turned off on my router so I don't think that is the problem.
The odd thing is that this just started happening out of the blue...10.5.2 was working fine until this week.  I am thinking about reverting back to 10.5.1 but I understand that uninstalling correctly is a pain.
    Any thoughts out there??

  • HT4557 We have a wired in network in our house, we also have an apple airport for use with my ipad/our ipods/iphones, etc.  Can we use home sharing if our desktops do not have wifi?

    Hi,
this is my first time on the support board, so hopefully I'm doing this correctly.  We have 3 desktop computers in our family, which are wired in with ethernet cables.  We also use the cables with our laptops (we have various connections throughout the house)  I have an iphone, and an ipad, my boys have ipod touches.  I purchased an airport router to use when I'm using my ipad, etc.  The boys and I would like to be able to share apps that we have purchased.  I'm wondering if there is a way to use home sharing in our situation.
    thanks!

  • Remote not working on iPod touch, Home Sharing

I returned home to school over winter break and tried to play music from my laptop (Windows) in my iTunes library, like I did normally with school. The only change that would affect this was the wifi network.
Anyway, I clicked on the Ramote app on my iPod, and it had a blank scren and read "Turn on Home Sharing in iTunes on your computer or on Apple TV" using my account. It was already on, and enabled, but turned it off, and back on again just to make sure. Still didn't work. On the blank screen on Remote, I clicked the Settings symbol on the top right, and it prompted me to "Add an iTunes Library" so I tapped that. Next I had to type in a passcode, and it said I would need to type it in in iTunes after selecting my iPod under the devices list. I selected my iPod on the Devices list in my iTunes, but nothing popped up for me to type the numbers into. So, I typed the numbers with the iTunes window open, which obviously didn't work.
I looked on the forums and tried closing and reoppening iTunes, turning on and off the wifi on both my iPod and laptop, deleting and reinstalling the Remote app, turning off wifi sync, repairing Bonjour, doing a hard reset on my iPod, going to edit-->preferences-->sharing and turning it on and off, under preferences under devices I selected to only allow paired remotes but when I went back to it the check mark was gone, I don't have iTunes match on, and under my "Devices" only my iPod shows up (not one with the remote button). I'm clueless. I have the mose recent version of iTunes, and iOS 6 on my iPod.
    Help please?

Under Edit > Preferences > Devices, did you check "Allow iTunes audio control from remote speakers"? I checked that and "Share my library" under Edit > Preferences > Sharing, I'm not sure which one worked but it did.  I opened the Remote app on my iPod, and the name of my iPod showed up on the iTunes list on the left, with a little remote icon. I clicked on that and it opened up the spot where you can input your 4 digit code from the remote app.

  • My Ipod wont sync with my new library and I dont know why not. It will show that it is connected through home sharing, but it is only avalible when i am with my laptop! I dont know how to get this current library as mine on my ipod, help!

My ipod will not sync with my laptop. I have had previous Ipods in the past, but since then I have grown out of most of my music. Also about a year and a half ago I got a new laptop. I used the same Itunes name, but now on my new Ipod it has all of my old music and it refuses to download any of my new music. When I am using home sharing though, it says that I can turn on my "Library" but that my "music" is what is perminately on the computer. This only works though if I am near my laptop. When I try to transfer my library onto my ipod it wont let me. My music on my ipod is completely different than my normal itunes library on my computer and I have no idea how to transfer it. When I plug it in, it wont sync at all, or show that there is any device even plugged in. I am frustrated and tired of not having any  of my music, so someone please help!!!

You can only sync to one computer/iTunes library. To make this your syncing computer:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities

  • HT202213 When using home sharing, can you copy music permanently from an iTunes library to an iPod touch?

  • HT202213 Home sharing.  Multiple ipods and more than one user..... Do they all need seperate accounts?

I have set my kids ipods up on home sharing.  Now when their games on each personal ipod, they are the same user.  Is there any way of changing this?  Or do I have to make each kid a seperate account and buy all of these games twice?

It doesn't look like anybody had any answers for me, but its no big deal as I solved it myself. The problem was dependent on the WebLogic's implementation of their security context and hence there probably isn't a generic solution. It turns out that WebLogic can associate a user object with each thread. If a thread does not have a user object associated with it, it uses the default user which is assigned the first time a user signs in. The problem was that the application thread was used to initially sign in, but the awt event thread was used to access the ejb. Since the awt thread had no context it would use the default.

  • ITunes is not recognizing my iPod so I cannot sync my music, but I can use home sharing and it will work... How do I make iTunes recognize my iPod touch?

I've had my iPod touch for over a year now, and I haven't used it or iTunes in a while. I updated iOS on my iPod and updated to the newest version of iTunes earlier. Now that I have put some new music in my music library (not from iTunes), iTunes will not recognize my iPod, but if I turn on Home Sharing, it will sync to my iPod... Which would be fine, but I have to have Wi-Fi all the time for that to work, and sometimes I don't have Wi-Fi when I leave my house. So how do I make iTune recognize my iPod?

    Here:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

  • Home sharing with two Macbooks and two Ipod/Iphones

Ive read the tutorials on Home Sharing and am still unclear as to how to move content between two spousal computers, each authorised on separate Ipods/Iphones
We can see each others' Itunes accounts on our network and play content accordingly. 90% of our content is the same (why we are happily married for 25 years) but the 10% that is different is the issue. We cant drag and drop music from one to the other currently.
The tutorial says we have to login to the same Itunes account to move content, but when we do this, it warns us that this will deactivate the Ipod on the other machine - which we dont want of course. We want to move the few songs from one Itunes account to the other while keeping our Ipods/Iphones authorised on our separate machines.
Am i misunderstanding the Home Sharing functionality or is it designed only for a 'shared Itunes account' essentially? That wouldnt work for us.

Ipod/iphones have nothing to do with Home Sharing.
Your ipods/iphones should not even be connected to the computer when you are using home sharing.
Move the music, then sign into your regular account, then sync.
