Home Sharing troubleshooting

I'm having lots of problems at the moment watching movies on my Apple TV (home videos) it keeps dropping off after 5 / 10mins back to the main menu.
I've tested the network and everything is working fine. everything was working fine over 1 week ago so i'm not sure if an update has taken place which is causing these problems now..
any assistance would be greatly appreciated

  • Apple TV Home Sharing troubleshooting not successful...

Signed into my iTunes account, says to turn on home sharing on my compuer. Both the Apple TV and my iMac have home sharing turned on with the same iTunes account but my apple TV wont show any libraries and keeps saying to turn on Home Sharing in my iTunes.
I've tried resetting my Apple TV and i'm getting pretty frustrated with it. All the troubleshooting options on the apple support page for Apple TV have said to do what I have already repeatedly done but to no avail. I'm also unable to airplay from my iPhone or iMac
could it be just a faulty Apple TV box?

Problem solved – While looking elsewhere on the Internet, I ran across an article where a guy in Russia found that his security code for the credit card entered on his iTunes account was missing.
After checking, I found my security code was missing as well. After I reentered my credit card security code, I was able to log on to the iTunes Store and also able to turn on  Home Sharing.
I HOPE The Apple  iTunes accounts were not hacked into.  That could be a reason for the security codes beinging erased by Apple.

  • Home Sharing Troubleshoot

I am using two windows computers with home sharing. I can use one computer to access the library in the second, but the second computer will not load the first computer's library. I click on the library under home sharing, it says it's loading, "loads" for about 17 seconds, and then goes to the second computer's library. How can I fix this?
    Thanks!

To clarify: I have no trouble seeing the other four Macs from any of the five I have set up for Home Sharing. If I click on one of them - my Mac mini with most of my collection - from the other four, iTunes attempts to connect and then abruptly gives up. I do not have this connection incompletion connecting to the other four Macs. It's just the one.
I've tried this both wireless and wired. I even moved the library (which lives on an external drive) to another Mac and the problem persisted. I've concluded either the library is too big for Home Sharing to accommodate, or I have corrupt album art somewhere... which would be like finding a needle in a haystack.
Interesting development: my daugher's ancient G4 iBook running OS X 10.5.8 could connect to my Mac mini successfully until iTunes 10.2 came out. Now it too has the connection failure problem.

  • HT202213 I have enabled home sharing on both of my computers, however there is no "sharing" option on either device. I tried restarting itunes, turning home sharing on & off, nothing.

Please help! Any suggestions would be great, as the old computer is slowly but surely dying, and I want to put all of my itunes data onto my laptop.

  • HT3819 Home Share issue: I have a Mac and Apple TV. Both are log into the same Wifi network and the same iTunes account (I can view purchased movies on AppleTV). Home Sharing shows 'ON' for both devices. BUT...AppleTV shows no computers. Itunes sidebar-no

Has anyone else found solution to Apple devices not 'seeing' each other on Home Share?  I have a Macbook Air (new Nov'12) and Apple TV (new Dec'12). Software updated on both. Both are logged into the same Wifi network and the same iTunes account (I can view movies purchased from iTunes on my AppleTV). Home Sharing shows 'ON' for both devices. BUT...AppleTV shows no computers... and ... Itunes sidebar does not have a 'Shared' area at all.  Help please as without this functionality, my Apple TV only provides portal to purchased (i.e. Netflix,...) content which I can get from Wii or Xbox.
I have already tried the following without success:
    1. Homeshare DID work the first day after I setup Apple TV... but the next day it has not worked since then.
    2. Powered off 30 sec then re-started (Apple TV & Macbook & iTunes login)
    3. Checked Firewall settings per Home Sharing troubleshooting guide (correct settings)
    4. Turning on Photostream in iPhoto and selecting iPhoto within iTunes and then checking to see if Photostream shows anything on AppleTV (it shows 'on' for my iTunes account but 'Zero' pictures found ... despite the >3,000 pictures showing avail in iTunes).
I also have 'Remote" app on my iPhone 4, with Home Sharing turned on (same Wifi network)... it has a very similar message as the Apple TV and same result that despite all devices having HomeShare 'on' they cannot see each other:  "Remote will automatically find the iTunes libraries and Apple TVs that have Home Sharing turned on using the account xxxx (it lists my correct itunes account name)."

I solved this by reset of the Wifi (unplug cable and power to both modem and wifi ... wait 60 sec ... plug in modem cable and power ... plug in wifi power and LAN to modem ... restart AppleTV and Mac ... Turn Home Share 'OFF' in iTunes then back "ON" ... it took ~60 sec for the AppleTV to pick up my Mac in computers.

  • HT201413 Why can't I get Home Sharing to show up in my Itunes?

I have three computers authorized on my Home Sharing, but when I call up Itunes on any of the computers, Home Sharing computers do not show up.  Can someone help me.  I just got a new computer and can't seem to get my Itunes library switched over.

  • ITunes 9 - Using 'Home Sharing' between Windows and Mac libraries

I have my main iTunes music library stored on my Windows 7 PC. It is currently around 200Gb in size, so pretty large.
I want to be able to use 'Home Sharing' in iTunes 9 to access this library on my Macbook over my home wireless network.
I don't, however, want to copy the music files themselves over to this laptop, but simply access the library over the network, and play them via either iTunes 9 or Front Row.
I would appear that the Windows and Mac 'iTunes Library' xml files are incompatible. I can't 'Alias' the Windows library on the MacBook for this reason. Does 'Home Sharing' eliminate this problem? Is there a way of accessing the library on the Windows PC without copying all of the files over to the MacBook?
I want to maintain a single library (which is often changing with new podcasts etc), rather than 2 libraries which I have to keep in sync.
Does anybody have any ideas on this one? I'm sure I am not alone in having this problem.
    Here's hoping...:)

  • Home sharing no longer working

Home sharing had been working for months without issue. Apple TV, two different iPhones, iPod touch, iPad and laptop. Suddenly, after last  itunes update (?) nothing will connect. Home sharing IS ON and I AM signed in. I made no changes to cause this and I have since tried all of the troubleshooting tips. It used to work, it doesn't now, I didn't cause it and I'd like to get it going again. What did apple do to cause this and what is being done to actually fix it instead of pointing users to a checklist of things that don't solve the problem that I didn't cause?

  • Home sharing not connecting iTunes to AppleTV

I've been having trouble connecting my iTunes to my AppleTV for the past couple weeks at least.  I can't access any of my downloaded movies or music.  I'm not sure if it's something in a recent update or something?
I have iTunes version 11.1.3 (8) and AppleTV version 6.0.2 (6646.81.1) and I'm on running my iTunes on my MacBook OS X 10.8.5.
    Here's what I've tried:
I have restarted iTunes, my MacBook and the AppleTV
I have reset my Apple TV and set it back up again on my network - all connected to the same network
I have turned off homesharing a few times on both my devices and turned it back on to see if will 'catch' - so to speak
    No luck.
    Any suggestions?
