Home-Sharing using BT HomeHub

I am really struggling to establish a Home-share connection between two MacBook's. I can't connect to my Apple TV either.
I'v tried all the online trouble shooting guides from Apple, but nothing works.
When I open a home-share and click 'done' the icon just disappears from the left menu.
I have been on various computer forums and others have reported problems with data sharing when using a BT homehub router, so I kind of think that this is the problem.
Anyone had a similar problem or able to offer a solution?

Yes, that is right. Epson Stylus DX4450 Gutenprint.
I have tryied lpt1 but nothing still. Funny thing is that it says "connected to 192.168.1.253" but the green printer light i still blinking. I contacted apple care or however it's called and neither they could find a solution. Eventually they said that it might be either the printers or the hubs fault, in which case I should contact Epson or BT, after I download generic Epson drivers (which I can't find nowhere).
It's pretty disappointing comparing to how easy it was with windows. But then again not all the hardware or software supports macs 100%.

What is the role of the internet in using Home Sharing. Does using home sharing use up my limited amount of available internet download ?
    Thanks Mike Anderson

Home sharing allows you to play music across devices via wifi, so it shouldn't impact your limited amount. Think of it as streaming as opposed to downloading.

  • HT202213 Does Home Sharing use up data allowance?

    Hi,
Does Home Sharing use up broadband data allowance, or is the data streamed between iMac and Apple TV kept just within the home using the wireless router? I'm unsure as the info on Apple's site says homesharing requires an active internet connection.
All I really want to do is stream photos and music from my Mac to the HDTV as it has the sound system hooked up to it. I don't want to have to use iCloud for this, as I don't believe the satellite connection is consistent enough.
I'm concerned as I only have a 3GB monthly allowance, and am on satellite broadband, so service is a bit patchy.
    Any thoughts/solutions greatly appreciated.

  • Issues with iTunes Home Sharing using iPhone 6 Plus

    Hi guys,
I'm having problems with streaming music and video on my iPhone 6 plus from my Macbook Pro (mid 2010 model) using iTunes' Home Sharing . I am able to stream without any issues using my iPhone 4S and my Apple TV, however.
I am using iTunes version 12.0.1.26, iOS 8.1.2, and OSX 10.9.5.
Using my 6 plus, I am able to connect to my iTunes library, both music and video. Album art shows up for music but no cover art for the videos. So, all in all, I am able to see the contents of my library.
However, when I try to play songs, a couple things may happen. First, nothing plays for about 10 seconds; then a second or two of the song plays followed by silence again, appearing as if it's buffering. Second thing that may happen is that a second or two plays immediately followed by silence. If I press next to play the next song, what usually happens is that nothing plays, although the song title does appear.
As seen in this video, I don't have any issues with my WIFI connection or internet speed, as demonstrated using the iPhone 4S and Apple TV.
I have no clue as to why this is happening.
Hopefully someone could shed some light with this issue. Please feel free to comment. I'm open to and appreciate any suggestions while Apple tries to find a solution. Thanks.

    UPDATE
So, after working with the guys at Apple, they were able to provide a solution.  Now I have no problems using Home Sharing with my iPhone 6 Plus!!!
(I should add that I have the Linksys Advanced Dual-Band N Router (E2500))
The issue was fixed by giving one of the wi-fi channels a different name, thus splitting the channels into 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.  Then, I connected my iPhone to one channel (2.4 GHz) and my MacBook Pro to the other channel (5GHz).  In this configuration, I have had no issues streaming my music and video.
It seems that the problem is some kind of interference between both devices when using the same channel (i.e., when both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz channel share the same name).

  • Does home sharing use my internet data?

I would like to be able to watch films on my iPod touch that are on my laptop via home sharing. As my iPod is always full of music, I don't want to have to delete music from my iPod everytime I want to watch a film. I have set up Home Sharing, and am curious as to whether my internet data is being used, as I have a download limit. Thanks

The way I've always viewed it, is that it would be downloading them from my laptop and uploading them to my iPod. Is this not the right way to look at it?
    sure.
so, the downloading part will involve your internet connection if your purchase content. once it is downloaded, the streaming to mobile devices (or Apple TV) from iTunes on your computer is purely over your local network.
if you rent content from the iTunes store (or on an Apple TV), the stream will obviously come from the iTunes store, i.e. via your internet connection.

  • Apple tv and home sharing using lots of data??

Just purchased apple tv and turned on home sharing to listen to songs in my iTunes library through my home theater.  I am not streaming video or listening through iCloud. My satellite data usage went through the roof. About 350MB in alittle over an hour. I unplugged the apple tv and still had usage. About 50 MB the next hour. I turned off home sharing and the bleeding stopped.  That type of continuous datat usage would consume my monthly data allowance in no time.
Without a solution I will have to return my apple tv. :(   Please help. Thanks

Is some broadband use to be expected.  I would not have thought so but perhaps I am wrong.  Any help, insight or information would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

  • Home sharing used as transfer

If I use home sharing to transfer my music to my new laptop, can I delete the iTunes at my other laptop without deleting all my music?

May of found a fix (could be temporary but is working fine for me).  I had issues with itunes - iphone (remote app).
    - Turn on Home sharing on iPhone
    - Turn off Home sharing on Mac in itunes
    - On iphone (remote app) Click Add an itunes library manually
    - iPhone will appear in itunes device list - choose and setup (using passcode)
    - Now turn on hone sharing again.
    Should be working.

  • Does home sharing use the internet to transfer between devices?

I have limited internet and with the new ios7 it seems to have the capability to use ALOT of internet if you aren't careful.  If I set up home sharing can the kids get the movies wirelessly without draining my internet and downloading them?  I guess the main question is if it is using the wifi to go between is it actually using the internet?

Transferring content from one device to another over a local network won't take up any internet allowance you have. However protected content may need verifying over the internet before it can be played, this in itself should not use a great deal of your allowance.

  • HT3819 how to use home sharing using a different apple id?

I use to have a regular ipod where I would buy music from itunes using my parents email account and apple id, but now I have an ipod touch where I set it up using my own email and apple id, how do I transfer my music from my parents desktop to my laptop? I'm having difficulties doing so because we don't use the same apple id. Is there a way this can be done?

You could copy the music to a DVD to your laptop then authorize it to play the songs purchased with that other Apple ID.

  • How do I share my iTunes library to an iPad without using "Home Sharing"?

I have set up my iTunes library to be shared with others over our home network.  This is the "Share your library" option, and NOT "Home Sharing" since my wife has her own Apple ID and I, unfortunatly, have 2.  She was wanting to listen to our music on her iPad but could not figure out how to access the shared library.  The "Music" app (click more, select library) only seems to work for Home Shared libraries.  (In fact, I had tried Home Sharing first and when I turned it off, all of the buttons at the bottom of the Music app's screen disappeared - note:  she has no music stored on the iPad.)
So, how can an iPad access a shared iTunes music library without using Home Sharing?
(iPad 2, iOS 6; Mac 10.8, iTunes 10 because 11 totally inhibits my ability to use my iPod the way I want.)

-> Home Sharing is different than logging into the iTunes store.
You enable Home Sharing using one AppleID. Doesn't matter which you use but all devices must use the same AppleID for Home Sharing.

  • Can i use home sharing if me and my wife have different apple ID accounts?

can i use home sharing if me and my wife have different apple ID accounts?

    Yes.
You need to sign into home sharing using ONE Apple ID. So either pick yours or hers, use the same one for home sharing on the computers. Once they are signed in on both Macs you can access media that the other user purchased.
Click the 'Shared House' for her library (if you have the sidebar enabled) when you are in your iTunes to access her media & vice versa, both iTunes needs to be running & awake.

  • Can home sharing be used from two different homes?

I was wondering if you connect Home Sharing from two different homes is it possibly to share the music?

The primary constraint is that Home Sharing uses the same wifi network for sharing/streaming between computers/devices. So if the wifi network stretches across multiple houses, it should be possible. But if the houses are on different wifi networks, I'm afraid you're out of luck.

  • Home Sharing between 2 Apple ID accounts on separate PCs...can our iOS devices access both?

    Hi All
Hope someone can help.  My wife and I have separate iTunes accounts with separate Apple IDs on separate PCs.
We both have HomeSharing turned on and can access each others music libraries from both PCs which is great.  However when I try to access the home shared libraries from our devices (I have an iPhone 4 and an iPad 2, and my wife has an iPhone 5) when connected to the home network I can only see my own shared library on my devices and my wife can only see her own shared Library from her iPhone 5.
Just for background we are both running the latest iTunes and are on win7 PCs, my iPhone 4 is on iOS7, the iPad 2 and iPhone 5 are currently running iOS6
Is there a way to see each others shared libraries on all our devices when we connect to the home network through wifi?
    Many thanks!
    Chris

    Hello Chris G Shirley,
In order to do this, you would need to switch between the two Apple IDs used on each system in Settings > Music.
On iPhone, go to Settings > Music, then log in to Home Sharing using the same Apple ID and password.
