Home sharing - view format for other users tunes

When I home share with another user's tunes, I can't get a fully organised view format (e.g. under "view" menu, sort by list, cover flow etc are greyed out). I can only get a single long list which is pretty-not-useful... It looks like this is the only way to go, but does anyone know how to get a fully featured and formatted view of another library? Store the media files somewhere other than the standard location. Other users cannot access the files if they are stored in the standard location. Example c:\itunes media
Within each users login, set the library location to the location you want. Each user can access all the files and the library for each user will be different.
My wife and I do this with an external drive on our home network.

Has anyone else found solution to Apple devices not 'seeing' each other on Home Share? I have a Macbook Air (new Nov'12) and Apple TV (new Dec'12). Software updated on both. Both are logged into the same Wifi network and the same iTunes account (I can view movies purchased from iTunes on my AppleTV). Home Sharing shows 'ON' for both devices. BUT...AppleTV shows no computers... and ... Itunes sidebar does not have a 'Shared' area at all. Help please as without this functionality, my Apple TV only provides portal to purchased (i.e. Netflix,...) content which I can get from Wii or Xbox.
I have already tried the following without success:
1. Homeshare DID work the first day after I setup Apple TV... but the next day it has not worked since then.
2. Powered off 30 sec then re-started (Apple TV & Macbook & iTunes login)
3. Checked Firewall settings per Home Sharing troubleshooting guide (correct settings)
4. Turning on Photostream in iPhoto and selecting iPhoto within iTunes and then checking to see if Photostream shows anything on AppleTV (it shows 'on' for my iTunes account but 'Zero' pictures found ... despite the >3,000 pictures showing avail in iTunes).
I also have 'Remote" app on my iPhone 4, with Home Sharing turned on (same Wifi network)... it has a very similar message as the Apple TV and same result that despite all devices having HomeShare 'on' they cannot see each other: "Remote will automatically find the iTunes libraries and Apple TVs that have Home Sharing turned on using the account xxxx (it lists my correct itunes account name)."

I solved this by reset of the Wifi (unplug cable and power to both modem and wifi ... wait 60 sec ... plug in modem cable and power ... plug in wifi power and LAN to modem ... restart AppleTV and Mac ... Turn Home Share 'OFF' in iTunes then back "ON" ... it took ~60 sec for the AppleTV to pick up my Mac in computers.

Chmod -R 700 on home directory doesn't restrict other users

Hi All,
I have several users sharing a mac. I wanted to secure my home directory so I opened a terminal and typed:
cd /users
chmod -R 700 alandye
a ls -l confirmed permissions recursively changed for my home directory and subsidiary directories and files had been set to og-rwx.
Then, I logged in as a different user (tknoble) , and tried to access the directory (alandye)through the finder that I had just restricted permissions on, and viola, I could read any file in there.
This doesn't happen on Unix or Linux, why is it happening here? I tried restricting account tknoble to non-administrative, but got the same problem.
Net/net, finder seems to be ignoring the posix file permissions.
Can anyone explain why this is happening?

... Still, the ACL issue and the open default permissions including the default umask on the Mac has me perplexed. I've used ACL's for years as a system manager on mainframes and other secure enterprise unix platforms, generally through a central administrative console like RACF or ACF2 on the mainframe. It identifies all ACL's on the system and allows you to administer them centrally. The idea that my mac has system generated ACL's that are only accessible through chmod on a file by file basis and are inherently set with open permissions seems like a bad security setup.
First, the default permissions and umask values have been typical of Unix systems since I started using them back in '85. And even in the Family situation, allowing family members the ability to share information is not uncommon, and can be frustrating to the family if everything is totally locked up.
Plus your complaints about ACLs, it just a side issue, as the /User/username folder should have only had an ACL that prevented accidental deletion. Your real problem was cached Finder information. So this ACL discussion is just a tangential issue.
Second, a Mac is a mass market consumer personal computer, with a strong leaning towards 1 person being the owner and user of that computer. It is not typically sold as a Mainframe replacement. Having tightly locked down, no access default permissions and umask just makes life extremely difficult for the mass market consumer.
Applying Mainframe rules to a Mac is only going to frustrate you.
As for having an ACL admin tool besides chmod, for the most part consumers are not aware of ACLs, they are used sparingly on the Mac, and as such it is not something Apple has felt a need to invest in. Maybe there is a 3rd party utility that will provide this service for you.
While investigating this I did discover a similar problem with a RAID array I have attached with similar file permission problems. chmod -R 700 on directories does set the permission bits correctly, but again, finder bypasses them and allows access for other users, even after a reboot. Apparently, according to this http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20020418091450891 the externally attached drives ignore ownership by default.
Again, the Mac is a mass market consumer item. Just about every external drive on a Mac is a detachable device, which can be moved around to other Macs, etc... (especially USB thumb drives, SD cards, etc...). Having these devices default to strict security would again frustrate the mass consumer Mac user, when all they want to do is get their pictures off of the SD card, or move files between 2 computers, etc...
My point is that the defaults Apple has selected are targeted to the mass consumer Mac user. Not the data center mainframe user.

Can we delete the views created for a user in Oracle BPM J2EE WL

I am using Oracle BPM 10.3 MP2 Enterprise Edition

Can we delete the views created for a user in workspace?
Usually we are using the filter option within workspace and then saving it as view.
Would like to know if we can delete such views and create again.
These views are user specifc

I usually use this scripts to clean the workspace user custom seetings:
delete from fuego_objclassinst where fuego_objclassname = 'bea.albpm.workspace.layout';
delete from fuego_strprops where (fuego_category = 'fuego-view' OR fuego_category= 'fuego-presentations');
delete from fuego_strprops where (fuego_category = 'WAM' );

Home Sharing Not Displaying on Other Devices

I currently have iTunes v11.1.2.31 installed on Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium. I also have multiple iOS devices, to include an iPhone and iPads that are on iOS 7 and an Apple TV (Gen 2) that has the most recent update as well. I have Home Sharing turned on for all the devices, however, none of the iOS devices and the Apple TV see the content that is on my PC. On the iOS devices, I don't even see the Shared option in the Music or Video section. On the Apple TV, it tells me to turn on Home Sharing on the PC. I am using the same Apple ID sign-on and password on all the devices. Thinking it might be a firewall port access issue, I double-checked all the port settings and made sure that port 3689 and 5353 were open on the PC. I also tried disabling the firewall on the PC as well. I still cannot get Home Sharing to work.
Does anyone have any ideas here?

It appears that IPV6 and Home Sharing do not get along together. After unchecking IPV6 for my network adapter and relaunching iTunes, Home Sharing started to work fine.

3 user profiles on mac book pro. cant see one account in time machine - has it backed up? and for other users ''no permission'' to open folders - i just want to know that stuff IS backed up (before attempting upgrade to lion)

We have 3 user profiles on mac book pro. want to upgrade to lion but want to be sure that all users are backed up to ext hard drive via Time Machine. When I go into Time Machine - I cant find anywhere my user account (1 of the 3) - loads of photos and documents. For other user accounts - if i go to open a folder i cant ''no permission'' is the message. All I want to be sure of is that there is a back up and for these 2 reasons I am far from sure.

Be sure they're not excluded in Time Machine Preferences > Options.

That's correct; one user, even an Admin user, doesn't normally have access to another user's files. You should see the same behavior if you try to look at their data on your Mac.
Log on as the other users (or have them do it) to see their backups.

To the best of my knowledge, purchased storage stays with Apple id it is purchased to. To the best of my knowledge, it is unlike itunes store, and is not obligated to comply with local laws/regulations for downloads.

I'm afraid not. It's not rocket science but you need to do some coding.
You'll need to find a script (php) and save it to your local site folder. Then reference the script in your form's action attribute like so.

The input fields in your HTML form need to exactly match the script variables.
I'm assuming you're hosted on a Linux server which uses PHP code. Linux servers are also case sensitive, so upper case names are not the same as lower case names. It's usually best to use all lower case names in your form and script to avoid confusion.

Problem in Scheduling trace for other user

Hi,
I scheduled SAT/SE30 trace for other user(From user X, I scheduled for user Y). I executed the corresponding program in background in Y Login. Then, if I see the traces in X as well as Y Login, Nowhere I am getting the trace. The status is "In Process" only. What is the right procedure to do this?

Mac is freezing no programs running yet no trouble for other user

My mac keeps freezing yet no trouble for other user. No program's run without 5 mins of coloured wheel rotating. Also time machine not operating properly as computer is not recognising it. Apple support centre not much help as it took them 10 mins just to get my details straight! Anyone with similar problem and successful solution?

Tried Mac HD utility first aid but advised it can't repair disk.
It's possible you have directory damage. You will need to get that repaired asap by using/purchasing a stronger 3rd party utility. The more you use the computer, the worse it will get.
Utilities are best run from the CDs to avoid system interference & false readings/reports. You must use the versions that are compatible w/your OS system & keep the utilities updated to avoid damaging/harming/trashing your system. You need to make your own decision on which to purchase. Read up on them on their websites because each do something a little different.

IBot user not receiving dashboard alert/email not the case for other users

Hi,
I have a user who can create iBots and is able to deliver them to other users. However the user themselves cannot receive any iBot alerts on the dashboard or via email, even for iBots that they create themselves.
I've checked their account setting and their email is configured, they are part of the correct user groups etc. This user has never been able to receive any iBot alerts or any iBot content.
Can you let me know what else I can check as iBots are working for other users?

They are part of the same group (in fact thety are part more groups as well) as other users for whom alerts and iBots work. They have the relevant priviliges under Delivers, their email is correct.
They have access to the relevant Subject Area as it is ther user themselves who create the report and try to send it out using and iBot, other users receive the report apart from themselves. They themselves don't receive any alerts or emails.

Message no visibility for other users

Since I started working with Message Beta my account visibility for other users is offline.
With 'the old' iChat my online status was visible to other users.
With Message however non of my chatfriends can see that i'm online even if my status shows online and visible in Message.
The only thing other friends see is that i'm offline!
Who knows the answere?

If you have multiple accounts/Buddy lists go to the Messages Menu > Preferences > General Section and use the item to unlink the Buddy Lists
Now check each one and also the setting to make them all the same.
If that does not work try Deleting the Account and then re-adding it/them

SubArea not visible for other users in ESS

I have created a new subarea (having few services) and assigned it to a Benefits and payments Area.
Now the issue is its only displaying to Administrator Role not for other users.
if iam giving SAP_ALL to other user then we are able to see this.

no.
The only way is if you use a webmail app - not the included e-mail app - so you can password protect it online.
The iPad is meant to be a single user device so it has no protocols to partition off any part of it (beyond what restrictions allow)

I'm a tech director for a school district with ~450 iPads. Often, I get students or staff who move out and leave their iPads logged into iCloud as themselves. I need to get these iPads setup for other users. How can I setup an iPad if the previous user is long gone?
Nobody is going to give me their Apple ID password and I wouldn't expect them to. Recovery mode lets me wipe it but I still need to enter the previous user's Apple ID and pw to proceed.
I don't use Configurator; I prefer iTunes.
