Home sharing with IMac and applet  not working

Sharing is turned on my IMac.  My Apple TV is on and can see the name of the IMac. The iMac has photos selected but they don,t display on the Tv.   I have verified the IMac has most recent version of ITunes. Been through TS guide, no luck. Apple TV says to turn home sharing on but it is already on. Any suggestions.

I have 2 Apple TV 2s.  I updated one to the latest iOS and it immediately lost the connection to my home shared iMac.  A week later I updated the second ATV2 and it immediately lost the connection, BUT I regained the connection with the first ATV2 I had updated earlier.  The second still won't connect even after exhausting EVERY solution numerous times and the setting on both ATV2s are identical.  Hoping the next iOS ATV update solves the problem.

    Home sharing is turned on for both iTunes and Apple TV.  Yet no files are synced to Apple TV from iTunes.  I have tried turning Home Sharing off and on both devices several times. I have also re-installed iTunes.

    If on wifi try ethernet
    Go to netstumbler or similar and get a network report, look for signal strength and noise
    Make sure port 123 is open on router (refer to manual if unsure)

  • Printer Sharing with eMac, iMac, and iBook not working

    Hello, everyone. I hope you guys can help me out with this:
    I have an Epson Stylus CX4600 hooked up to my eMac via USB. My eMac prints fine with it. The eMac is getting its internet via an Ethernet wire going downstairs into my Linksys Router, which sends my Shaw internet to my iBook, my iMac, and my eMac.
    I want to allow the iMac and iBook to access the printer over the network directly, so I can just print from those computers and have it come out the eMac printer.
    I've looked at many articles on this. So far I've installed the drivers on all computers, plus they can all network to each other over File Sharing, so they are connected.
    But I haven't been able to print yet. The most I've been able to do is get the files I try to print from the iBook and iMac to show up on the eMac, in its printer queue. Only it didn't show up for a LONG time. And when it did, the jobs automatically stopped and everytime I clicked start, it would automatically switch back to stopped again. The files would not print.
    At this point, I want to get the iBook connected to it first. If I can do that, I'll try the iMac. But the iBook is first priority. I've tried making it connect to the Printer using IPP (IP Printing), and the result was... what I explained in the above paragraph. I also tried just ordinary Printer Sharing, but it said something close to this:
    "Unable to locate eMac.local, Unknown host."
    That hardly makes sense, because at that time I also tried getting the iBook connected to the eMac over File Sharing which worked. For some reason, the "eMac.local" and "iMac.local" files don't show up in my Network thing when I connect to them, or even when they're not connected. HOWEVER, I think they did at one point. I could swear I saw "eMac.local" and "iMac.local" in the Servers folder in the Network section of the iBook at one point. But it's no longer there.
    Please help. I've described my problem as well as possible. What a long post. If there's any way to make my eMac, iMac, and iBook be able to print through my Epson Stylus CX4600 at any time directly, then I'll do it.
    Help!

    Yes. I did say that my eMac, iMac, and iBook are all
    connected to the internet and networked to each other
    over the Linksys router. I believe the router is
    still on factory settings because we never really
    "set" or programmed anything with it.
    Mac OS 9.2.2 on the iMac, Mac OS X 10.4.8 on the
    other two. IP addresses?
    192.168.1.100 is what I would use to connect to the
    eMac from the other computers.
    This is the eMac's IP, correct? Did you type it into Network, or was it assigned by the router's DHCP?
    192.168.1.101 is what I would use to connect to the
    iBook from the other computers.
    This is the iBook's IP, right? Again, fixed or DHCP?
    192.168.1.102 is what I would use to connect to the
    iMac from the other computers.
    Same for this IP.
    The iBook, as I've said, is wired. No wireless
    connections to speak of.
    Okay. Now, if the router is handing out IP addresses via DHCP, what range was it configured for? My Linksys, for example, is configured to hand out IPs in the range 192.168.0.10 to 192.168.0.254. It has the IP 192.168.0.1, so the IPs 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.9 are available for me to hand out as fixed IPs. If I was to hand out 192.168.0.100 as a fixed IP, the router's DHCP server would have a potential problem, as it might hand out that address too, and only one device can have a particular IP address on a particular network. If your router is handing out 192.168.1.100, .101, and .102 via DHCP, you could and probably do have a conflict if you've got those addresses set up as fixed IPs. In particular, if you have anything else on the network, including Bonjour-enabled devices such as printers, you're likely to have a conflict.
    Best way to resolve a conflict, if any:
    1 set all the Macs to either DHCP, or if fixed IPs are required, to a fixed IP outside the range of the DHCP range on the router. (Or you could just turn off DHCP on the router.)
    2 check the router to be sure that DHCP is set the way you want it, and the DHCP pool is what you think it is.
    3 shut down the Macs.
    4 turn off the router, wait 30 seconds, turn it back on.
    5 turn the Macs back on, one at a time.
    On my Linksys, the way to set the DHCP pool is simple:
    1 log into the router. (My router IP: 192.168.0.1. Yours would be 192.168.1.1.) Hit the 'Setup' tab. Verify the gateway IP. (Should be the router's IP. If it's not, something very strange is happening.) Verify the start of the DHCP pool. Verify that DHCP is on (or off, as you want). Verify the end of the DHCP pool. (My start is 192.168.0.10, and there are 245 IPs in the pool, so the end is 192.168.0.254. If I changed the number of IPs to 200, the end of the pool would be 192.168.0.209, and I'd be able to set the IPs 192.168.0.200 to 254 as fixed IPs if I wanted.) If your router allows for IPs to be reserved, you can set up reserved IPs for one or more of your Macs. (A reserved IP is an IP the router holds for a specific device. The network card in each computer has a specific MAC address; if that address is registered with the router, then every time that computer is turned on and connected it will get the IP that was reserved for it... so long as that IP is in the DHCP range and DHCP is turned on. Think of it as a fixed IP without your having to actually fix the IP.)

  • File sharing with iMAC and OS 9.1 Power PC back-to-back not working

    Here's the setup. Any ideas on why it's not working?
    Internet ports connected with crossover cable.
    OS 9.1: File sharing ON, Program linking OFF, Document file selected for sharing
    OS 10.4.8: Personal file sharing ON, Built in Ethernet both computers, GO connect to server-Power PC IP address entered.
    Response after a timeout: "Connection failed. Check server name or IP address".
    17 iMAC Intel core duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Still not working. Here’s what I tried.
    OS 9.1: Configured TCP/IP in Control Panel for connection via Ethernet slot. Noted IP address from last DHCP connection. Turned on File Sharing in Control Panel. Selected file for sharing. In Chooser clicked Appleshare icon and Server IP Address button. (Note: Appletalk button active). Entered iMAC IP address in Server Address screen and clicked Connect.
    No connection made.
    Then opened Appletalk in Control Panel and noted it is connected via same Ethernet slot as TCP/IP. Therefore returned to Chooser, clicked Appleshare icon and clicked Appletalk inactive button. Upon turning File Sharing on in Control Panel, get warning message, “Appletalk must be turned on to use file sharing.”
    As before, iMAC connect to OS 9.1 didn’t work either.
    Artnum=302784 indicates Appletalk cannot be used, TCP/IP must. Apparently there is no way to disable Appletalk in OS 9.1 maching when file sharing.
    It appears I’ve hit a dead end in trying to get operational file sharing between OS 10.8.4 and OS 9.1 machines.
    Thanks for your help, BDAqua

  • Set up home sharing on iMac and iPhone. iPhone app launches fine, play library but only plays on iMac, not iPhone. Why?

    I set up Home Sharing on both my iMac and iPhone. When I launched the phone app and selected my iTunes library, the music played on iMac but not on the iPhone. That was the whole purpose of turning on Home Sharing. What am I missing?

    Anyone? This is really irritating me because it's so simple and worked just fine, but now it just won't work and I need it.

  • Home sharing with iOS remote app stopped working

    In my home, I have four macs (3 minis and an imac), each with their own iTunes media library, and 2 ATVs.  Home Sharing is turned on, with the same ID on all of these devices.  When I operate each device natively (using keyboard/mouse or ATV hard remote), I can see the music library on each of the other devices, and play that music.  I also have an iPhone and an iPad, with the Remote app installed, and using the same Home Sharing ID.  On each of these, I can see each of the macs and ATVs, and the music in their individual libraries, and can play that music on the device on which that library resides.  So far, so good.
    What I can't do, although I could do it several weeks ago, is use the remote app to access one device, and then play music from the shared library on another device.  I can see the other devices' libraries, but when I select "music" within that device, it says "no songs".  This is very curious, and like I said, it worked a few weeks ago.
    Has anyone seen this issue, and do you know how to fix it?
    Thanks.

    But this is where the problem starts. While I am using the remote app, I exit the app to do something else on the phone. I go back into the app, and the app attempts to connect to my iTunes library. It fails!!
    I'm having this exact same problem. I was using the remote app with iTunes on my computer and speakers connected to my airport express for months with no issues at all. It worked flawlessly. But I got the new apple tv a few days ago and had to turn on home sharing as part of the setup...and then the problems began. I started having the exact issue described by the original post: the remote app will just randomly not be able to see my iTunes library. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it just sits there spinning for a while and eventually says it couldn't find my library. If I wait a few minutes it will eventually just start working again.
    This is extremely annoying and is making me want to just return the apple tv and go back to my previous setup which worked perfectly. If Apple would at least acknowledge the problem and that a fix will be forthcoming, I would be satisfied.

  • Home Sharing Windows 8 64 Bit - Not working

    Home Sharing on itune 11.0.2 stopped working. I enabled Home Sharing  and I don't see shared Folder on iTunes.
    Os : Windows 8 64-bit
    ANy thoughts.
    TIA

    You might try a manual install/repair.
    The instructions below I've done with Windows 7 64 bit. (not sure what will happen with Windows 8 but we may learn more)
    After downloading the latest version of iTunes from Apple, extract the files in “iTunes64Setup.exe”
    (If you have never done this, you may need to download a program such as WinRAR [64 bit].)
    Manually run each install file in the following order.
    AppleApplicationSupport.msi
    Bonjour64.msi
    AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi
    AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi
    iTunes64.msi
    If there are any errors, stop, and write back with the results.

  • Home Sharing on 2 iPhones does not work.

    I have updated both of my iPhone 4 to firmware 4.3.3 recently and I have enabled the Home Sharing feature in my iTunes 10.2 on a windows 7.
    Then I added my AppleID in both iPhones under Settings/iPod (the same AppleID used in the Home Sharing of iTunes) but it appears that only 1 iPhone can stream at a time.
    I am saying that because when I first access my shared library from the first iPhone, it plays the song without issue.
    But when I tried to access the shared library from the second iPhone, the first iPhone stopped playing the song and it can't stream the playlist anymore and the connection to the playlist of the second iPhone also got disconnected and it cannot find the shared library as well.
    Then I need to power cycle the first iPhone to be able to reconnect back to the shared library.
    I get the same result with many attempts.
    Is there anyone who can share some ideas here?
    Thank you in advance!

    By your description, it sounds like you were trying to access your library via Remote, which can only be used to access a source on a 1:1 basis for streaming.  In other words, you can't use Remote on both iPhones to connect to the same library.
    If you want to simultaneously stream your iTunes library to two iPhones, you need to initiate playback from your iTunes library (not your iPhones) and select your iPhones as AirPlay devices.  See the AirPlay icon in the lower-right corner of iTunes.
    Alternatively, if you have a third device (e.g. an iPad or Touch) you could use the Remote app to initiate playback on your iTunes library and select your iPhones as AirPlay devices.  But I'm pretty sure that you can't use Remote on your iPhone while simultaneously streaming to it from your iTunes library via AirPlay.

  • Drilldown with ParentAfter and ParentBefore not working

    Hi All,
    I am using Drilldown option in Workbook Option with ParentAfter and ParentBefore. I found that the drilldown sometimes works but sometimes can not expand/collapse. First, i thought it was because of dimension member set in the current view is not base member, but now that i have already set all as base, the drilldown still can not work.
    I have set the memberset as LDEP and taken out the sort range. And now, after logged off and on again, the drilldown can work again without me changing anything....
    Any idea why it behaves this way?
    Thanks in advance for the advice.

    Your issue lies in your clientkeys. instead of:
    clientkeys =
    awful.key({modkey,}, "f", function(c) c.fullscreen = not c.fullscreen end),
    awful.key({modkey, "Shift"}, "c", function(c) c:kill() end),
    awful.key({modkey, "Control"}, "space", awful.client.floating.toggle),
    awful.key({modkey, "Control"}, "Return",

    awful.key({modkey,}, "o", awful.client.movetoscreen),

    function(c)
    c.maximized_horizontal = not c.maximized_horizontal
    c.maximized_vertical = not c.maximized_vertical
    end),
    It should be
    clientkeys = awful.util.table.join(
    awful.key({modkey,}, "f", function(c) c.fullscreen = not c.fullscreen end),
    awful.key({modkey, "Shift"}, "c", function(c) c:kill() end),
    awful.key({modkey, "Control"}, "space", awful.client.floating.toggle),
    awful.key({modkey, "Control"}, "Return",
    function(c) c:swap(awful.client.getmaster()) end),
    awful.key({modkey,}, "o", awful.client.movetoscreen),
    awful.key({modkey, "Shift"}, "r", function(c) c:redraw() end),
    awful.key({modkey}, "t", awful.client.togglemarked),
    awful.key({modkey,}, "m",
    function(c)
    c.maximized_horizontal = not c.maximized_horizontal
    c.maximized_vertical = not c.maximized_vertical
    end)
    I had the same problem and this fixed it.

  • How to properly setup Home Sharing with iPhone and iPad

    Hi, In our home we have both an iPhone and an iPad, but with different user ID's for iTunes etc.
    I just now seen that there is the Home Sharing feature, but looking up info on it I'm a bit scared that people are saying if you log in to another device with the same ID you get locked out of the original.
    How could I properly setup Home Sharing on both devices, while being 100% positive that I keep my original device ID's in place?

    I would recommend taking a look at the article below for more information about home sharing.

  • Remote disc sharing with windows 7 pc not working

    I bought Photoshop Elements to put on my MacBook Air. Since I could get a better price from Amazon than Adobe, I ordered the cd version and recieved it in the mail. I was planning to either use a product key to download it or use remote disc sharing. Unfortunately, Adobe doesn't let you download the software with a product key without paying $80 for it. So that leaves me with using remote disc sharing, but that doesn't seem to be working, either. When I open Finder, I can connect to my Windows 7 PC no problem. But when I click on Remote Disc, nothing is there. It is just blank white; no computers or files are available. I tried using other cd's to see if it was a problem with Photoshop, but nothing works. I also reinstalled the Remote Disc software on my PC several times and have clearly activated it. I really don't want to pay $50 to call Apple, only to have them tell me that I need to pay to download Photoshop online. Also, since I already opened the Photoshop box, I won't be able to get hardly anything for it on eBay. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • IPod Touch 5 home button, power button and charging not working!!

    I have an iPod Touch 5 I got last year for Christmas, so it's about an year old. The home button has not been working recently so I tried everything to fix it but nothing worked. We took it to places to get it fixed but it costed a fortune that I would have bought a new iPod Touch instead. I just used the Assistive Touch instead. Then today I was using my iPod Touch and I turned it off. About a minute later I went to get my iPod Touch and used it again and threw it on the bed because that's what I always do and it never breaks. Then a few minutes later, I got my iPod Touch from my bed and I tried to turn it on but it wouldn't budge. Then I remembered it had low battery so it must have shut down because it had no more battery power left. I charged my iPod Touch and tried to turn it on a again but i wouldn't. It would normally turn on and show the Apple Logo and go directly to the lock screen but it just stayed black. I searched up how to fix this but the only way to turn it back on is doing something with the home button but I couldn't since it was broken. I tried to find computer but they were all occupied and the only that wan't occupied was a Chromebook but it my USB couldn't fit in because it was too big. I try to find other ways but there was nothing that could work. I think my iPod Touch isn't charging because whenever I charge my iPod and it has no battery power left, it would usually turn on by itself. I really don't want to go out and fix my iPod at a store because it'll cost a fortune. Please help!! Thank you

    Turn on without Home/Power Button
    You need a computer with iTunes which rules out a Chromebook
