Home Sharing with Multiple PCs and Apple IDs

My wife and I both have our own computers with our own Itunes, Apple IDs, and Itouches. Since we obviously share a bank account we want to be able to share the music that we by from the Itunes store with each other. If we both want a song there is no reason we should both have to pay for it. I have used my apple id to authorize home sharing, but I am still at a loss about how to have the music shared and such. Can anyone break this down crayola style for me so that I can get this up and working for us?
Thanks in advance!

My iphone 5s = apple id 1
Husband iphone 4s = apple id 2
My ipad = apple id 3
Son #1 ipad mini = apple id 4
Son #2 ipad mini = apple id 5
For iCloud.. Not quite, you want the same ID for iCloud on your phone and iPad so you have the same info on each. (so perhaps ID 1 on both.
But if you want to share your music (assuming lets say its your ID 1 that has the iTunes account), you should all use ID 1 for iTunes.

  • HT204053 icloud backup with multiple devices and apple ids

Wondering if I have the appropriate set up to ensure all my data, purchases, apps, etc. is properly backed up to my icloud (personal email account)?  Here is my current set up.  PC: itunes - personal email; iPhone: icloud & store purchases - personal email; iPad: icloud-work email and store purchases-personal email.  So will store purchases on my iPad still go to my personal icloud?  (Note I can't change the iPad: icloud log in - iPad owned by work so required setting)
Also, does icloud copy any data from my PC other than itunes?  Not sure if the set up questions when I icloud on my PC are related to my PC or to the various devices.  For instance, "Mail" is an option - which mail account is this?
Any clarification on these questions would be much appreciated!

  • Screen ipad doesn't respond during video viewing home sharing with multiple iOS devices simultaneously

A have a problem with the videos app and iTunes home sharing on multiple iOS devices.
This is my setup. On my iMac 2006 with Snow Leopard I have:
    - 100+ dvd's ripped in my iTunes movie section
    - 600+ episodes ripped in iTunes TV-section in 35 TV-shows
    - 1 apple tv, 1 iPad 2, 1 iPad mini
On an average evening my family is watching different tv-shows simultaneously on the apple tv, the ipad, an iphone, and an ipad mini.
This is done through home sharing on the one iTunes library.
    All updated apps, software etc..
What happens on the ipads, after viewing for more than 10 minutes, the user interface doesn't show up when tapping the screen. The touchscreen doesn't respond, only the home button works. Clicking the home button closes the app, but the sound of the video keeps on playing. Opening up the videos app again gives a black screen with sound still playing and still no button or UI.
The only workaround which currently works is killing the videos app. Power off the ipad and power on again, reconnect to the shared library, wait until it has found all the content (1+ minutes) and startup the tv show again.
All in all, a nasty way to pause your viewing or switching to another movie of tv episode, or even wanting to finish viewing.
The problem has haunted me for a year now, patiently waiting and hoping software-updates would fix it. They didn't.
A fix would obviously hugely improve my user experience, getting it on par with Apples usual quality of service.
Anyone familiar with this problem? Apple: is it possible to fix it in an update?

Same here for over a year now.
You cant imagine how happy i am that im not the only one with this problem.
many of frinds have the same setup as me (ipad 2, 27"imac, express, apple tv 2)
    No problem
I had the problem on Snow Leopard, lion and now on mountain lion.
I'am also starting to get a new problem - sometimes when waching a movie on iPad or ATV it just quits the movie and you have to start it again
on the iPad most of the time it also shows the wrong cover art. I tried all the hints here, and i works for a day or two then its wrong again
I store my itunes library on an external drive - you ???

  • Home Sharing with multiple iTunes accounts

I have set up Home Sharing between our iMac and our AppleTV2 using my wife's Apple ID. The AppleTV sees my wife's iTunes library and plays music from it. However, my wife has songs in her library purchased under both her iTunes account and my iTunes account. Our computer is authorized for both accounts, and all the music plays fine on the computer. However, when AppleTV tries to play a song purchased under my account, it puts up a message that says "Authorization is required" to play that song. Is there any way to get AppleTV to play music purchased under both iTunes accounts? As it is, Home Sharing is useless because anytime it encounters a song purchased under my account, it stops playing music. I would even be happy if it would just skip songs it can't play, as long as it would continue on to the next song that could be played.

I've been trying to thing what might be different about my set up versus yours in case (which may be likely) you are correct and your wife's library is authorised and plays your content in her iTunes application.
I deliberately chose my wife's music to check my set up because she pays for her own iTunes account, whereas my children have their own accounts but I give them an allowance and send them gift vouchers from my account (which I thought might just be relevant). I later realised that my wife's library is also on our homesharing ID (which again might have been relevant), so I've now tried it with my youngests purchased and protected content because his library is using our homesharing ID.
    I'll keep thinking.

  • Home Sharing with iTunes 9 and Vista

I just downloaded and installed iTunes 9 on both of my Vista boxes. I am trying to use the Home Sharing feature. I clicked on Advanced> Turn On Home Sharing. I enter my Apple account info and click Create Home Share. A box pops up that says Home Sharing could not be activated because this computer is not authorized for the account "myusername". Please authorize this computer and try again.
So, I clicked on Store> Deauthorize computer.
Then, I clicked on Store> Authorize computer.
It gave me a pop up that says something like you have authorized two of your 5 available computers.
I tried turning on Home Sharing again and still got the same error that this computer is not authorized.
Then, I tried going to Store> Sign Out
Then Store> Sign In and doing the deauthroize/authorize process again.. still same results.
So, lastly, I tried going to Store> View My Account and deauthorizing ALL computers... so that reset my authorizations.
Then I signed out of the store, signed back in, authorized both machines... still I get the error on both that the computer is not authorized so it cannot turn on Home Sharing.
    Any suggestions?

in order for home sharing to work
    (a) iTunes on all machines must be authorized for the same iTunes store account
    (b) all machines must be on the same network
    (c) all machines must have access to the internet.

  • Multiple Apple IDs with multiple PCs and multiple AppleTVs - content not authorised

So, this is a slightly complicated setup; but it should work... and it does, until randomly AppleTV decides that it isn't authorised to play some content.
    Setup is this:
    PC1 - authorised for AppleID1, AppleID2, AppleID3 and AppleID4 - HomeSharing turned off - pirmary AppleID (used for new purchases) is AppleID1
    PC2 - authorised for AppleID1, AppleID2, AppleID3 and AppleID4 - HomeSharing turned off - primary AppleID (used for new purchases) is AppleID2
AppleID3 and AppleID4 are other AppleIDs and only occasionally used for new purchases depending on content availablity. Yes these are genuine AppleIDs associated with other email addresses in other regions as we split our time between countries.
PC3 - authorised for AppleID1, AppleID2, AppleID3 and AppleID4 - HomeSharing turned ON (using AppleID1) - this PC isn't used interactively for purchasing content it's only purpose is for HomeSharing.
Please note that each PC has it's own iTunes library, all content is synchornised between PCs using sync programs (e.g. SuperSync) or a shared drive NAS.
There are 4 AppleTVs that are sharing the content from PC3.
Sometimes, when trying to play some content on one of the AppleTVs then the message that this content is not authorised will appear. So far the only way I have found around this is to go to PC3 and re-authorise that PC with the AppleID that was used to purchase the content. The PC _always_ reports that "This computer is already authorised for that AppleID"; however after doing this the content plays on the AppleTV.
How can I avoid this problem? PC3 is basically used as a HomeSharing server so that I don't have to have the individual PCs turned on. As far as I understand content is licensed to a specific AppleID and NOT (except with rentals) to a specific AppleID _and_ specific device.
I will happily change to using iCloud to allow all of my devices to access all of my content that I have purchased, but at the moment it seems that this problem will exist no matter how the content gets onto the device. Using a single new AppleID isn't possible either as we need to have different AppleIDs for different places.
Is there any solution? Why does AppleTV report that the content isn't authorised when the PC which is sharing the content is actually authorised? Why does re-authorising the PC make it work, when it reports that it was already authorised??
    This is becoming seriously annoying.

    Hi
i ran into the same problem. surprisingly though, i am not using multiple apple id and just one mac.
i did change both the account (apple id) and the computer (from pc to a mac server), but home sharing is on and the apple tv (1) is synced with the new computer.
i can connect to the itunes store and browse through it (signed in at all times). i cannot purchase any content and cannot play transferred rentals from the computer (apple tv is not authorised...)
somehow, it seems the apple tv was stuck with a previous id.
i have just now re-authorised my computer on the account and will give the apple tv another try. i did notice a message during the re-authorisation process. the apple tv is being authorised. this gives me hope.
in any case, your setup seems to be a dream come through. i decided to phase out my high end multiroom linn kivor system (over 20k back 6y ago) to an itunes based system. apparently you managed to build something.
i tried an itunes based nas but gave up due to complex operation (and overheating on top) and went for a mac server. i will be using windows clients though.
most of my content is cd based. can you sync purchased content between pc's? or with a server?

  • HT2688 Home sharing with multiple Apple ID's?

I want to use home sharing, but each of my kids has thier own Apple ID so they have to pay for what they donwload.
Since we are a family, each of us should have full access to each others apps and music - inlcuding all the music I ripped from my extensive CD library.
Can apps and music bought on different Apple ID's be transferred to other computers or iPods via home sharing?
    We currently have:
    2 PC's
    1 iPad 2
    1 iPhone 4
    3 iTouches

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can use your own ID's for the iTunes Store, so that you each have your own account and content, but you need to use the same ID (doesn't matter which) for home sharing on all devices.

  • How do i sync my ipad to multiple computers and apple ids?

    Hey,
I had an iPad 1, which was synced to my apple id. I then got the iPad 2, which is synced to my apple id as well. My mom is now using the iPad 1, and would like to continue using some of the apps i'd downloaded, but would also like to sync her own apple id to the iPad 1. can someone help me figure out how to sync multiple apple ids, on multiple computers to a single ipad?
(I know this can be done, as my dad's iPad 1, as well as my brother's sync to two different computers and to two different apple ids, i'm just not sure how)

Using iPad or iPod with multiple computers  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1202
Apps cannot legally be shared between Apple IDs - that is considered piracy.
However, you can legally install apps on multiple devices that use the same iTunes ID and are owned/controlled by the same person.

  • Home sharing with multiple accounts- trouble shooting question

I am currently having issues with the Home Sharing function. We all have seperate accounts but log on and are about to share music etc. but when logging on my work phone it sometimes saves my husbands apple id to my phone. • How to share one iTunes library with multiple computers AND Apple TV? Help?

It seems like my dilemma may not be easily solved. Hopefully it isn't as complicated as I think it will be. Here's the situation:
My wife hates that, in order to see or do anything with the images she takes, I need to have iPhoto open on my computer (Mac Pro), and she then has to connect to it over sharing.
By the same token, I don't like that she buys iTunes content on her MacBook, which is sometimes a duplicate of content I already have. Now that the App Store is out, that is going to start getting really expensive.
So instead, I want us to be able to:
    1) Have ONE iTunes library on the network, and ONE iPhoto library. Both of these would be accessible to any computer on the network. When you launch iTunes, you would get all the media that is in that library.
    2) Both be able to access iTunes at the same time to listen to / watch content.
    3) Both be able to purchase iTunes content, and when it it purchased, it updates that single library. If I buy a song, the next time my wife fires up iTunes, that song is there for her to listen to.
    4) Have our two Apple TV units be able to play content from this library.
So, I know that we need something on the network. I have a Drobo with DroboShare, so that is one option. I also have a spare Mac Pro laying around, along with a copy of OS X Leopard Server.
I just don't know what route we should take with this. All I want is for us to share a library, to be able to both use that library, for us to be able to sync content from that library to our portable devices, and for our Apple TVs to also see that library.
    Possible?!

I'm sort of in the same boat. We've got an iMac with separate User Accounts set up and are currently sharing the same iTunes and iPhoto libraries along with streaming them to our Apple TV.
Right now I'm the only one with an iPod, however she'll be getting one in a couple of weeks.
We also just picked up a MacBook yesterday and I'd like to be able to sync certain libraries like iTunes and iPhoto so that no content gets duplicated on either the iMac or MacBook and so that we both have access to the current libraries for each program on our iPods and AppleTV.
I have an external hard drive that I back up the iMac on and I assume I could manually keep things current with that but there's got to be an easier way...that's why these are Macs right?

  • I am trying to use home sharing with my computer and someone's ipad, will i still be able to transfer stuff in the library like it normally does on two computers

I want to share the library from my friend itunes to my computer but I am not using a computer to share I am using an iPad 2. Am I still going to be able to transfer the library from the iPad to my computer

    Hi ashleymartinsmith!
I have an article for you that may help you understand Home Sharing a little better:
    Understanding Home Sharing
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819
Home Sharing in iTunes is designed to let you easily share your iTunes media libraries between up to five computers in your household. You can also use Home Sharing to play your iTunes content on your iOS devices and Apple TV (2nd generation) if they are connected to your home Wi-Fi network.
The important thing to note here is that all connected devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network for Home Sharing to be functional. Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!

  • HT202213 Home sharing.  Multiple ipods and more than one user..... Do they all need seperate accounts?

I have set my kids ipods up on home sharing.  Now when their games on each personal ipod, they are the same user.  Is there any way of changing this?  Or do I have to make each kid a seperate account and buy all of these games twice?

It doesn't look like anybody had any answers for me, but its no big deal as I solved it myself. The problem was dependent on the WebLogic's implementation of their security context and hence there probably isn't a generic solution. It turns out that WebLogic can associate a user object with each thread. If a thread does not have a user object associated with it, it uses the default user which is assigned the first time a user signs in. The problem was that the application thread was used to initially sign in, but the awt event thread was used to access the ejb. Since the awt thread had no context it would use the default.
    If anyone wants to know more about the exact solution you can email me at r k e n w o r t h y@h o t m a i l . c o m (pardon the spaces - hopefully they will avoid extra spam going to my account).

  • Home Sharing with multiple routers?

    Hello,
I have a TimeCapsule set up to provide Wired and wireless internet to my Macs and AppleTVs.  The problem with the TimeCapsule is that it doesn't do very good logging, which I need for a home automation application, so I have a Linksys router (running Tomato) attached to it that provides wireless internet for a couple of iPhones.
The problem is that my TimeCapsule network has addresses of 192.168.1.x  and the iPhones get addresses of 192.168.2.x.  Everyone connects fine to the internet and the iPhones can see the things on the 192.168.1.x network such as my iTunes Mac's website... but they cannot see the AppleTVs and iTunes HomeShares.
What's the best way to maintain these two networks, but get the iPhones able to use Home Sharing?
    Thanks!

  • Home sharing with two Macbooks and two Ipod/Iphones

Ive read the tutorials on Home Sharing and am still unclear as to how to move content between two spousal computers, each authorised on separate Ipods/Iphones
We can see each others' Itunes accounts on our network and play content accordingly. 90% of our content is the same (why we are happily married for 25 years) but the 10% that is different is the issue. We cant drag and drop music from one to the other currently.
The tutorial says we have to login to the same Itunes account to move content, but when we do this, it warns us that this will deactivate the Ipod on the other machine - which we dont want of course. We want to move the few songs from one Itunes account to the other while keeping our Ipods/Iphones authorised on our separate machines.
Am i misunderstanding the Home Sharing functionality or is it designed only for a 'shared Itunes account' essentially? That wouldnt work for us.

Ipod/iphones have nothing to do with Home Sharing.
Your ipods/iphones should not even be connected to the computer when you are using home sharing.
Move the music, then sign into your regular account, then sync.
