Home sharing won't load on laptop but PC can see laptop

I am looking into doing some work on my PC and was going to use my laptop to backup my library. My PC can see the laptop and transfer from it but the laptop has never been able to see my PC or transfer from it. This is not a new problem, has been going on basically since I bought my PC in 2009, but since I haven't needed it I have ignored it. I have all the same windows, firewall and iTunes settings on both machines so I am really at a loss.

Windows 7 Home 64 bit
iTunes 10.6.1
Laptop setup
Windows 7 Home 32 bit
Itunes 10.6.1
I know the laptop can work with home sharing as I was using it to setup home sharing for my mother at christmas and her new laptop (Win7 32) and her old PC (WinXPSP3) were all three working together nicely. We have the same router and settings also.

Contrary to the marketing, Music or Video using Home Sharing simply does not work on the iPad. I have spent hours on the phone with Apple Care. There is no solution. If you really need to watch video, buy an Apple TV and a small monitor or some other setup. The problem is not with Home Sharing, which works fine between my computers. Neither is it with the Wi-Fi, which I use with the Remote app to load and play the same library that Music stalls on. The problem is with the Music and Video apps, which can only load shared libraries intermittently.

    I've been struggling with Home Sharing and cannot understand why it simply won't work. I have a relatively large library (25,000 songs/300movies/1000 tv shows). I'm running all Apple devices, all with the latest OS/software versions. AEBS is my router.
    Home Sharing has always worked flawlessly from iTunes on my Mac to AppleTV.
    When I load up the Videos App on and any of my several iPhones and iPads in the house, my Shared Library always appears...
    ...however, if I tap to load it...the spinning circle appears and that's where it ends. It will spin endless for several minutes until it Fails or I stop it.
    What could be the problem here? I've tried all the basic troubleshooting of turning HS on/off, in iTunes and the iOS devices, restarted every device plenty of times...Nothing.
    It used to work intemittently with iOS 6, but not at all on iOS 7.

  • I enabled home sharing on my computer and iPad, but I can't access anything on home sharing. It doesn't appear on my computer or iPad, where you would be able to see the shared content.

    Am I just not undestanding how it works or am I doing something wrong?

  • Home sharing between accounts works one way but not the other

    My husband and I each have separate user accounts on my Macbook.
    I have turned on Home Sharing in each user's iTunes, and I can see my husband's library (which only contains one song) but he cannot see mine.
    He's just got a new iPhone, and I want to sync it to his contacts and calendar etc on his account, but that'll mean he'll have no music.
    Any idea where I've gone wrong?

    I'm having the same problem - my Mac mini, which I bought to act as an iTunes server, can see my MacBook Air's library, which has hardly anything, since it has hardly any storage, but my Air can't see my mini!

    I have 2 macs that sharing works and that I have acces of home sharing in the left column.
    I just reinstalled XP and running iTunes 10.5.3 on my PC and everything is setted up like my macs but home sharing won't appear in the left column and I don't see the PC's library on my macs.
    Everything is turned on with the same email account.
    Is there a probleme on PC...

  • CC app home screen won't load

    When I start the CC app on my PC (Windows 7, 64 bit), the home screen won't load.  The activity indicator just sits there and spins.  It worked before, but not for the last few days.  The other screens work just fine.  Any ideas?

    If internet is fine then this might be becase of Creative cloud files, please try the steps metioned in http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/unknown-server-error-launchin g-cc.html and see if it works.

    Initially your music should be in your iTunes library on your computer. Once match completes its scan, your music will have been matched or uploaded. I suggest that you add iCloud status column to song view. This will tell you what has been matched, uploaded, purchased, inelligible, duplicate or waiting. What is the status of your tracks that are not playing.
    If space is not an issue, I suggest that you keep the music on the internal hard drive otherwise you can delete the tracks and play from cloud. In both instances, you should maintain a back up of all your music on a separate hard drive.

    How do I import a playlist on home sharing?  I get the songs, but not packaged in the playlist from which they were imported. Now I have duplicate songs in my music library.

    You can't import media from one Home Sharing library to another by any other means except selecting the individual items you want to import. For example, you can't select a playlist and then click on the 'Import' button to import all the items in that playlist. You have to select all the items in the playlist before you can click on the 'Import' button. By extension, the playlist on the other Home Sharing computer will not be re-created on your computer. You can select more than one item using the 'Shift' or 'Command' keys.
    What you can do is create a playlist on your computer first, with the same name if you want, and then use drag and drop to copy the media from the remote playlist to your playlist. Note that the playlist on your computer cannot be a 'Smart' playlist it must be a regular playlist for drag and drop copying to work.
    Regarding 'Smart' playlists. If you create a 'Smart' playlist on your computer that uses the exact same filtres as the ones on the remote library when you import the media from the remote library they will show up in the same 'Smart' playlist on your computer.

    Unfortunately, no. Home sharing only applies to devices sharing the same Wifi network.

Command/Option/P/R  keys for three chimes at startup. Then try a safe boot by holding down the shift key at startup. This will not load all extensions, but you can access your files and apps and run safari. Do you have The install dvd as you show snow leopard as your operating system. You can also boot to that and run disk utilities to check and repair the drive and permissions.     So the menu bar reads iChat, File,  Edit,  View, Buddies, Video, Window and Help
    There is no Buddy List open.
    There is no other window for iChat open.
    In the iChat Menu you only have access to Status.
    Is an item ticked in the list ?
    Is this a green (Available item) or  Red ( an Away one) ?
    Can you access the Accounts option ?  (Sitll in the iChat Menu)
    Is anything in here ticked ?
    In the Window menu any Logged in account should appear in the list  (Between the Next Chat and File Transfer items)
    It would be useful to know which version of iChat this is.
    If no account is ticked (iChat Menu > Accounts) or not showing in the Window Menu, plus you cannot determine the Status and you cannot access the Preferences then you need to access your Home Folder/Library/Preferences
    As the Library in the Home Holder is Invisible in Lion you will need the Finder's Go Menu > Go to Folder option  (you can use it in earlier OS versions if you want)
    Type in:-
    ~/Library/Preferences
    Find the file called com.apple.ichat.plist
    Drag it to the Trash and Restart iChat.
    This will lose all the settings in iChat that you have changed from Defaults but there is no way around this.

    All of your computers content are available in the AppleTV section called "Computer".  This is where you will find your music.
    The Music section of the AppleTV is only for those who subscribed to iTunes Match.
