Home sharing wont show my library on ether laptop

Im trying to share some of my tones with my boyfriend who also has an iphone. i have done it before with my sister's tones , but i cant get home sharing to show my library on his laptop and his wont show on mine

my girlfriend is trying to use home sharing to listen to some of my music. we both turned it on and are connected to the samem network but when we connect and hit done, home sharing on the sidebar goes away and we can't find it or get it back on the side bar. please help!!

You can only watch the movie on the device you rented it on. Here's a snippet from the Apple Support site (italics mine):
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.

Home Sharing wont play videos since OSX upgrade to 10.9.3

Ever since I upgraded my iMac to OSX 10.9.3 home sharing hasnt worked properly on any of my devices for video streaming.
I have my iTunes library on my iMac harddisk and prior to the update I was able to play any video content (Movies, TV Shows and Home Movies) on any of my iOS devices in my home: Apple TV2, iPad1, iPad2, iPad Air, iPhone 4S *2.
last week I applied the software updares for OSX and iTunes and sice then I have not been able to play any video content on home sharing!
Mostly the library loads fine, but sometimes the artwork isnt displayed. When I tried to load any of the video content it just never loads an eventuall times out.
Has anyone got any ideas? I have done all of the usual resets and reboots to no avail.

So, I have created my home sharing from my base computer to my laptop. On my lap top I see the tab for home sharing but it will not let me connect to my computer to share my music over. I have done everything iTunes has told me to but it still won't work.

I got some more info that may help.
I put a cd on my laptop, and was able to share it to my computer... So the problem is only from my computer to my laptop. I tried the firewall thing and it did not help. I read the rest of the trouble shooting page, and nothing else applies. iTunes is an execption and already was. I can not think of anything else being my problem. Do you think I should re-install iTunes or would that be a waste of time? At this point I am about to just call Apple for some help because I am getting to stressed over this.

Home sharing is on, but library does not show up under sharing. Turned off then on again and home sharing shows up and the disappears when I click done. What am I doing wrong???

Home sharing can't connect on my computer. It will recognize a library on one computer but not another. Tried turning it off and then on and got nothing. Tried switching to a different apple I'd and got nothing. I have the latest version of I tunes. What am I missing? What am I doing wrong? Can anyone help?

Are you connected to the same SSID network?
to make things a little more easy, i'd perfer to have all my itunes on a network drive for all pc's connected to one itunes and scratch the home sharing itunes to view under another itunes.
Only problem im having is that wrong pictures are showing up for movie/tv show connecting to different computers conecting to one itunes library.

HT3819 so we will be getting rid of our old computer so home sharing will maintain our library on new computer/we wont lose any information when i restore my old computer and get rid of it?

soi we are wanting to install itunes on our new computer and move all of our itunes to it. we see the home sharing is this the best way? once we move the itunes under home sharing can we get rid of the original computer we had itunes on. it is a old desk top and we no longer want it.. just want to make sure we dont loose anything once we home share to a new computer..

Just my personal opinion, but using home sharing to transfer content is extremely unintelligent.
Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer or use the Windows File transfer utility to move all your content from the old computer to the new computer.

HOME SHARING wont work on new ipad

just bought a brand new ipad 2 16gb straight from the apple store and i cant seem to setup home sharing. ive enabled it on my mac under advanced, and my settings on the ipad and im using the same username and wifi. i just cant seem to find the shared library in music on my ipad. any help? all of the troubleshooting guides online are showing me the answer but the shared library simply isnt there.

I have three computers authorized on my Home Sharing, but when I call up Itunes on any of the computers, Home Sharing computers do not show up. Can someone help me. I just got a new computer and can't seem to get my Itunes library switched over.

TS2972 Home shareing, wont work???

In itunes on my left hand side bar it wont show my shared computers, this is a new laptop, last night it did let me share from one of my old PC's, but today it wont show me any onf them in the side bar to be able to transfeer and or share my mucis from my other computers, i have tried to turn the home shareing on and off serval times on the new PC laptop, but nothing works, any help and or ideas would be appericated. and its windows 8 not 7

how do i get "shared" to show up on my laptop itunes in the side bar where all the other files are (i,e, music, videos etc...) shared shows up on all of the other computers (desktop and other laptops) and the new laptop even shows up on the other computer, but the new one did see the others once before but now no other CPU's will show up on the new laptop, can anyone HELP please!!!!

I can see the import button but it wont let me click on it.

The above article did not help me, I was having the same issue. The import button was "greyed out". But this article did help...mostly:

I successfully moved my music from my old computer running Windows XP to a laptop running Windows 7. I could never get the import button to be "active" but I randomly tried selecting all the music I could view from my old computer on the new computer using Home Sharing and dragging it to Library on the new computer. It immediately starting copying the files, and then, and only then, the Import button became "active" i.e. not greyed out. But I did not need to click on it at that point because the files were being copied to the Library of the new computer.
I then followed the article I mention above to get my playlists transferred as well. All is good after a very frustrating morning of research. There are many posts on forums about the "greyed out" issue; none of the answers I could find worked for me. This did. 3,000 songs and all in their proper playlists!

I am setting up Home Sharing on my kids computers and on my computer have selected to only share their playlists. However on one of my kids computers it is showing the entire library.
Can anyone help?

The way home sharing works is your entire library is shared. You can consider Windows sharing options If you put music in your public folder on Windows, your kids will access those files and be able to drag those over and import in itunes.

5 apple tvs home sharing the same itunes library on minimac, does it work?

I have 5 apple tv and 1 macmini with my itunes library (music and movies).
is it possible to turn on home sharing in all of them in order to share the macmini library ???
I'm suspicious that it works just for 4 apple tvs, not for 5.... is that correct?

Using Home Sharing to transfer itunes library from old computer to new but connection keeps timing out...anyone have a solution?

Hello everyone,
I am attempting to use Home Sharing to import my itunes library from my old computer to new (as per instructions on this site), but the connection keeps "timing out" and so the import gets cut short.
Both computers have the new itunes (I updated them last night), but only seem to get about 5 minutes (or 100 songs in) before the connection error occurs.
I have an external hard drive and would use it to transfer my library (which is ~45GB) however my old computer isn't recognizing the hard drive so I thought Home Sharing was a good option...perhaps I was wrong?

You might need to make sure neither is going to sleep (System Prefs > Energy Saver)
Also check your settings under System Prefs > Security. My sisters new laptop kept logging off due to some setting there.
