Home theater control

Hello
I'm not sure if this is the right section but does anyone know if there is a app for controlling a a/v receiver. I would like to turn on and control my denon 4308 via the iphone 3gs. The denon 4308 is connected to the network so it is possible to control it with wifi Infact i have a program on my cpu that can control it but looking for Iphone control. Is this possible. currently i control it with a Logitech Harmony 890 pro universal remote.

No, this isn't the forum.
Try the iPhone forum.
Good luck.

  • Help on purchasing a Home Theater System...

    Hi everyone,
I just bought a new HDTV and I am now looking into getting a good Home Theater System, since as I'm sure you all know, the speakers on my TV are pretty pathetic.
But in all honestly, I really don't know much at all about speakers and home theater systems, so that's why I'm here.
I hear that most home theater systems come with DVD and Bluray players, but I don't need either of those, since my ps3 and 360 give me 2 DVD players and a Bluray player already.
I am really looking to spend less than 400 bucks, or around that area if possible.
I also have one question: My HDTV only has 2 HDMI ports and one Component port and since I am using both of those (HDMI is being used for the cable and ps3 and component is used for my 360) I am wondering if there is some other way of connecting the Home Theater System?
Thanks in advance for all your help.

Ok after looking at the manual for that reciever this is what I come up with.
One HDMI cable running from your PS3 to the reciever (BD in would be my choice)
One HDMI cable running from your Cable box to the receiver (dvd in would by my choice)
Now for you Xbox 360 you said you have the component cables for it, from what I can tell you can also get an HDMI connector as well. What you choose is up to you but this is how it would work.
    Xbox with component cables:
Since the receiver doesn't have component swtiching you would have to hook the xbox up to your tv with the component cables ( the way it is now).
Then run an optical audio cable from the xbox to the receiver SAT optical in.
If you get the HDMI cable most likely you would just run the HDMI cable from the Xbox to the receiver like the other components. If you went this route I would hook the xbox to the dvd hdmi in and the cable box to the SAT hdmi in though. Honestly it doesn't matter but it just might be less confusing that way.
Then you would need on optical cable running from the TV out to the TV in on the reciever. If you never watch regular tv you don't need this since the sound will come from your cable box anyway. But if you also have the tv hooked up to an antenna or something this will send the sound to the receiver.
And one HDMI cable running from the Receiver out to on the HDMI inputs on the tv. This is what will carry all of the signals going into your receiver to your tv.
And then the speakers connections which should be described in the instructions for the receiver. Just make sure the polarity is right when you connect them.
This configuration will let you control most or all of the components through the receiver since it switches most of them. Just choose the correct input and the tv will display it.
Okay, so according to that, I would need 4 HDMI cables to my HDTV, which would be impossible.... Unfortunately, my new HDTV only has 2 HDMI porsts, so is there a way to get around that issue? If I use HDMI for the ps3 and HD cable box, then is there a way to hook everything else up (including the reciever) without HDMI?
    Thanks in advance.

    I have lenovo edge E531 with 8gb ram, intel core i5-3230M 2.6GHz, GeForce 740M

    hi sotim01,
    Thanks for posting!
    1. Uninstall all components,
Open Device Manager and Uninstall your Conexant audio under Sound and ganing controllers (make sure to place a check under delete driver software for this device)
    2. Open Control Panel Uninstall a program and highlight the dolby component and an Uninstall button will appear.
    3. Open your C: drive and Delete any folder that says drivers if non then continue with the next step
    4. Download this Driver for installation
            Conexant Audio Driver
    Install it and continue
    5. Open Drive C: now and you should have the Drivers folder back.
Open that, Open Connexant Open Dolby Gui,  then you should have Dolbyaa for Advanced audio.
Restart your PC and there you go!
    Let me know your findings
    Cheers!

  • How much do you care about sound quality in your Home Theater?

Many people sweat over the smallest details when getting a video device (TV, projector), but do not think much about the integration of a sound system in their room.  Too many people think that a large TV with an off the shelf sound system will make a great home theater system.  Unfortunately, many stores can't even demonstrate the integration of video and audio as evidenced by the huge wall of TVs and a small section devoted to surround sound systems.  How is a consumer to build a home theater if you can't hear and see what is possible.
So my question is, how much do you care about sound quality and what have you done to get the most out of your system?  For instance: Have you applied sound absorption materials to your walls, have you sweated speaker placement, have you plotted your room's anti-nodes, have you controlled your light levels, have you calibrated your speakers, etc.
Believe it or not, your room's acoustics and the proper type of audio equipment and speakers play a much LARGER part in your enjoyment of anything that you watch.  You just can't throw some speakers into a room wherever you want and expect to have an engrossing experience.
The reason I ask is that I don't believe that many people care about sound quality since a large percentage of the population think that portable digital audio players sound fine.  I would like to be proven wrong.  My other goal is to raise everyone's awareness that you need to think about more than just a large TV in order to build your home theater.
I do not work for Best Buy and am not affiliated with them in any way. I like HT and want to help people improve their HT experience. "There is a LOT more than just having a TV to make a home theater"

It really depends - I am working since the last 2 years on an very large Applet (~650 classes / 1.5mb classes) which had design-time comptibility with MSJVM and Netscape-1.1.5.
Now 2 years later the applet is still not finished although I am pretty sure we would already be shipping if only our managers would not had been that stupid to decide 2 years back to support obsolte jvms.
Since Netscape-4.x is dead and MSJVM useage really decreases dramatically (I guess it won't play a role in 2-3 years) I only can recommend to not target to the msjvm any more.
its really ugly and its buggy, whereever you look bugs, bugs, bugs.

  • How to interface SC-HT800v Panasonic Home Theater with New Samsung LED/LCD 6500 series TV

I don't see how the 14 pin cable coming out of the subwoofer will connect to the new TV or our new Blue Ray player Samsung BD-C5500.  We currently have no receiver since that was in the Panasonic VCR/DVD that we have abandoned.  Can you confirm this & also offer a suggestion of a new home theater system?  Thanks, Susan

Buy a Samsung Home Theater soundbar system. That will fit your needs perfectly not to mention you will be able to control your TV, Blu-Ray, and the sound system with a single remote control.

  • Home theater connectivity, mode opti

    Hi Guys
So... a while buy I purchased X-Fi Fatalty... and up until a while ago i've ran it on few creative speaker sets as well as klipsch... everything worked fine except the speakers "sucked" if you will.
so i upgraded my stuff to a
    -Denon AVR-706 amplifier
-Paradigm Cinema 70 home theater package (audiophile quality at low price!)
now... i connect these to my x-fi through analog inputs because we all know digital won't do real time encoding of 5. games. here comes the problem. i used to listen to my 2 channel music in audio creation mode where i CLONED 2 front speakers to my 2 rear speakers. this gave me my stereo x2 effect whithout the degrading quality of CMSS. well you see when you go amp/home theater speakers with x-fi's implementation of bass settings you NEED to have the bass redirection turned on as well as the +5Hz boost. The problem is that there is NO bass redirection settings in audio creation mode and there's no way that i know of to clone my fronts to rears in entertainment mode. i don't want cmss upmixing because i dont believe it's cloning... i believe it's upmixig regardless of the 2 modes selected. Does ANYONE know how to clone these whether at the driver level or through a plugin (i use WMP on Vista Ultimate x64 SP)?
the other thing is.... maybe it's my amp but in regards to local radio reception x-fi volume needs to be cranked WAY up (75%) on the PC side to match the level of other components in the setup... does this thing go into some sort of a low volume mode? I'm not pointing fingers here for this one but maybe you guys know something I dont
    anyways.... thanks in advance!

Next Step: Removed media location on this PC [PC A] from [PC B] in Media Center.
RESULT: Now this PC [PC A]Sleeps
In addition: Checked UEFI Bios There are no Wake By ring, etc. settings enabled
Restored all settings on this PC [PC A]Will now move all media to Server, I guess??
Is this some fluke in WMC? That using the media in a REMOTE W7 Pro PC will prevent that PC from sleeping? Or am I missing something?

  • Home Theater need. Multiple Audio Streams from 1 card or possible to use 2 car

I currently have 2 SB Li've's installed and a SB Audigy in the box.
I would like to be able to send different audio out to different devices. I need to send audio from a game interface called MAME 32 to a speaker system connected to the PC. I also use this PC as a home theater PC and want to send audio from my DVD playing software out to my TV(in analog stereo mode) and/or to my receiver(in Dolby Digital mode using the digital connector).
I would like to be able to run these seperatly without having to go into the Control Panel and switch the default sound card like I am doing now. I do not need to run them at the same time.

Bummer. Are you guys working on something that might have this capability? Seems to me that the closer we integrate PC's into our entertainment systems the more need we will have for the ability to do multiple audio streams, i.e. MP3's to the living room. DVD movie audio to the family room, XM radio classical station to the kitchen for mom etc..
Intel is offering this as an onboard solution that has the ability to do at least 2 different streams.

  • Connecting mini to Home Theater

I'm going to be connecting my mini to my home theater using a DVI to HDMI cable and a mini TOS-Link for sound.
I will be streaming my music, photos, videos to my 47" HDTV. I have a couple of questions:
    1. How will the picture quality be using FrontRow?
    2. I have a NAS that I will be streaming from. How do I get FrontRow to "see" the directories on the NAS where my photos, music and videos will be stored?
    3. What is the best format to store my videos in for playback on a 47" HDTV?
    Thanks.

I can't say my setup is the same but similar enough to warrant a reply.
I have a mini hooked up with TOS-link and VGA (I have an older non-HD Plasma - 720x480).
    1. The video quality is superb, so long as the source is excellent. That said, Front Row isn't the most robust of software. It only reads certain formats - There are tons of posts regarding this. You can with little effort get it to read AVIs. It will also play anything that Quicktime can play. But DVD rips have to be played outside of front row.
    2. Just make an alias in the mini's "Movies" Folder from your NAS ( I assume that's an external drive or data source of some sort). Make sure the mini is connected to the external source. I have a G5 connected to a lacie firewaire with all my content. I use ethernet to connect to the G5 which is connected to the Lacie and it streams no problem...not the case if I try to do it wirelessly, it "skips" occasionally if I attempt it.
    3. Anything quicktime can read. I don't really have a preference so long as it's encoded at a high quality.
Other things to note...I have my mini going through a pre-amp which is connected to an amp. I use TOS-link, which means the volume controls are useless on the front row remote.
hope that helps...I'll follow-up with more if I think of anything.
    good luck.

  • 2ht - HyperText Home Theater

I want to start a new project.
The project is a web-based media center built in web2py.
Playback will done on the machine hosting the application (hereafter referred to as the HTPC). It is not intended to be used for websites that stream all your media. The HTPC hosts the web-server on the local network. Any device on the network with a web browser should be able to control the HTPC through the web application, including the HTPC itself, or any smart phone or tablet.
By default, there should be a core set of features for basic functionality. The application also needs to be extensible, using components and plugins.
Arch is obviously going to be the target OS, since this would be best used with standalone WM setups where a web-browser is launched on the HTPC with a homepage set to the web application. With that said, there's no reason why it shouldn't work with other distributions.
I am hosting the project on Github.
Let me know if you are interested. I have spent some time on a similar personal project myself, but I wanted to start over, making it a community project from the beginning.

    Hey AnastasiaMaier,
The answer given you by autotech796 is correct. The cost of home theater installation can vary greatly, depending on the client’s specific needs, the placement in their home, and the condition of that space.
We do sell a Home Theater Consultation service for $99.99; in this service an agent will come out to your home, to evaluate the space for your specific needs, in order to make sure you purchase the correct service and products. The cost of the Home Theater Consultation service is redeemable on any future home theater purchase $499 and up.

  • Dolby Home Theater for ThinkPad W530

So I had to restore my Windows 8, and I had to reinstall all the drivers. However, I couldn't find the Dolby Home Theater driver in the drivers page under ThinkPad W530. In another post on the forum, I found the link to Dolby Home Theater driver for another ThinkPad (S series). When I try to install this, it gives an error saying PCEE needs to be installed.
Could someone help me find the driver for ThinkPad W530 or resolve the PCEE error?

I have tried multiple times to reinstall the realtech driver with no luck.
Here is the error that I get when I start Dolby home theater software
From the control pannel add & remove I can see that i have "dolby Home theater V4" installed with version number 7.2.7000.11 and i have the "Realtek high definition audio driver" version 6.0.1.6914 installed which I got from the lenovo drivers website for the w530.
Please let me know if you have a solution to this problem as I have already searched the web and cannot find any reliable place where I can find the original software drivers that came with the computer.
    Thanks,

  • U310 - Dolby Home Theater: how do I activate it?

    Hi y'all at Lenovo community.
    Lenovo U310 - i5 - 8GB - 32 GB SSD - 500GB HD - upgraded van W7 home premium naar W8 pro naar W8.1 pro
Due to Windows 8.1 growing pains I disabled and uninstalled Dolby Home theater and I was waiting for a new update of the Conexant driver.
The other day Lenovo presented te new driver so I downloaded and installed it.
And I noticed Dolby Digital Plus Home theater (DDPHT) was active in the program overview.
However, I'm asking myself what DDPHT does to the sound.
All I see is the submap DolbyGUI in Program Files/Conexant containing a setup64.exe but no program that does any job, nor do I see any Dolby-related items in Windows Start.
And I see no Dolby items in taskmanager.
    So how's that?
    Sincerely,
    Jim
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    hi papadiva
Open Control Panel and set the View by: Option on the top right of the screen to small icons And it should have an Icon for Dolby Home Theater
Refer to this thread on how it should look like,
    https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/Dolby-Home-Theater-v4-lower-sound-quality/...
The Windows 8.1 upgrade issue about Dolby has been resolved,
-You will have to uninstall the Audio Driver from device Manager and Uninstall Dolby under Control Panel
          - Install the *.1 Audio driver from Lenovo support site
          - Open Drive C:driver/Conexant/ DolbyGUI folder and it should have a Dolby HT Installer to install back Dolby Home              theater app
    Hope this helps

  • ITunes Streaming: connection to home theater using Airport Extreme & Expres

I'm hoping this problem is an easy system config fix...
I am trying to stream my iTunes library from my desktop in the office to my laptop in the living room. Easy 'nuff so far. I adjusted all the nec. settings on each & my desktop iTunes lib. shows up on my laptop iTunes. Plays fine through the laptop speakers.
Now the tricky part that I can't figure out:
The desktop has an Airport Extreme base station & I'm using an Airport Express as a signal booster in the living room.
The AP Express has a 1/4 jack to RCA left/right plugged in to it that is going to my home theater receiver.
How, or can, I get the Airport Express to send the signal out of it so I can listen to my library through the home speakers? All wirelessly of course. ; )
The goal is to listen & control my desktop iTunes lib through my laptop & have it play through my home theater.
    dual 2Ghz G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Figured it out... hadn't turned on AirTunes on the desktop iTunes/Prefs.

    Answer

  • SB Home Theater Cable vs. Audigy 2 Platinum Ex incompatib

Hi all,?I need to connect my good ol' Audigy 2 Platinum Ex to a 6. speaker setup. I noticed that Creative has the Home Theater Cable, but the cable seems to be for a 7.-able sound card, not a 6. (see link)http://www.creative.com/products/pro...duct=4309&nav=. Is this true that the cables we can buy from Creative are only for the newer 7. cards? If so, where could I get/what kind of cables will I need for the Audigy 2 Platinum Ex to a 6. speaker setup? Thanks!Message Edited by bizsar on 07-09-20072:56 PM

It seems like this type of card has been supplied as a "clean" version with no aux input, and a version as you describe. The manual following my card includes a sketch where the aux is not shown. I am quite puzzeled. Is there any other way of solving this? I am reluctant to by a new sound card.
If there are no 4-pin input connectors onboard, then you need to use one of the line-ins on I/O Console. You mentioned that the sound becomes distorted when connected through line-in (which one have you tried?)
--> can you control the output level from VCR ?
--> have you tried to set input level in Surround Mixer (Wave and Line-In sliders, .rec (AnalogMix(), Line-In n when recording))?
--> have you tried usie Line-in 3 (Aux-In, back of the I/O Console) or Line-In 2 instead of Line-In which is a 'FlexiJack' type jack connector (holds both, mic-in/line-in sources)?
