Home wifi signal in and out

I have internet coming into the house through time warner cable.  it goes directly to my imac via ethernet.
I have a wifi netowrk set up on my time capsule, and I have an airport extreme connected to it from the other side of the house.
The internet on the computer always works great.
The signal on the time capsule is always on green.
Every few minutes or so, the wifi seems to diconnect from the internet.  Using the Airport Utility app I can see that the time caplsule and airpot extreme jump offline when the internet disconnects, but the base stations never stop showing solid green.
Time Capsule version 7.6.1, same for airport extreme.
Its frustrating because it appears to be set up properly and working fine, then it jumps off the internet then back on after a minute and I have no idea what to do.  I can't wat anything on the ipad because of it.
Any ideas?

This appears to be the classic problem of interference.  WiFi uses channels.  If both you and your neighbor use the same channel, you might experience this type of dropout.  Try changing the WiFi channel that you are using on the Airport and then power cycle your iPad.

Unplug it from power, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in.  Wait 1 minute.  Try to connect.

  • After 10.7.4 update can no longer see home wifi signal

Ever since I updates my MacBook air my home wifi ( the one I used for the update) no longer shows up on my computer. It shows up on my mac mini and iPad and my MacBook air can connect to other networks. Any ideas?

No NAS other than an Apple one includes native support for AFP. They all use an open source package called Netatalk that is junk. Many years ago Apple deprecated the old security modules that Netatalk uses.
The easiest solution is to hack up Lion so that it will connect with the old security protocol. Do a search for "lion dhx2" or something like that. Another option is to update your NAS to a version of Netatalk that includes support for DHX2. That is easier said than done. Netatlk isn't as "open" as other open source packages.

I want to extend the range of both to the new building using a a express, can this be done?
Unfortunately, it is not possible to "extend" the Guest network on an Apple router. Or more correctly, if there is a way....no one has reported finding it.

I have taken it back to the Apple store genius bar, but they say they don't see anything wrong. Well unless you use it all day and experience the problems when they happen, you wont see anything wrong. But there are lots wrong with it. But this would be the same store as I purchased the phone. And they backed up my old Iphone 4, but were not able to get anything to load back onto my new phone. So, I lost pretty much everything. But over time, some of my contacts have started showing up, although i am still missing over 800 of them.

  • IPod Touch 4th Gen (iOS ver 6.1.3) wifi cuts in and out. No other devices affected.

It was fine up until a few days ago when I noticed the wifi turning off while asleep (I was missing many notifications). Yesterday I noticed the wifi coming and going under normal use (in the middle of messages, checking weather, looking on Facebook, etc).
I've done the following to no avail:
    Turned device off and on.
    Turned wifi off and on.
    Renewed lease.
    Forget network and rejoin.
    Turn wifi off and on.
    Reset network settings.
Nothing is helping and it's frustrating trying to keep in touch with my family (via Facetime and iMessage) when the wifi doesn't stay on long enough to send a short message. My home button doesn't work, so I haven't been able to try and restart that way (holding home and power button simultaniously).
Also, my iPod is the only device in my home that is affected. My laptop, 3DS, and Wii, as well as my roommate's laptop, iPhone, iPad Mini, and PS3 are unaffected. These devices are all usually used at the same time and we've never had an issue before (even when friends bring over their devices).
Any help would be appreciated, as for this thing is the main way I keep in touch with my family (they all live out of town).

Did you power off and then back on the router?
Have you tried different locations since maybe interference is causing the problem.
Does it happen when connected to other networks?
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • WiFi cuts in and out

Having a wierd connection issue on my MBP. The airport card just keeps losing connection like crazy while surfing the net, but when I stream XM radio from the app, the connection is consistent and doesn't drop at all.
What could be causing this? Should I dump the prefs file in the system folder for my airport connections, or try something else?
    Thanks,

    That is interesting...
If what you suggest about OS 10.5 is true, then the fact that I have two MBP's in the same room which don't exhibit the same symptoms would lead me to believe that it was a hardware issue with either the onboard airport card or the computer itself.
Does anyone want to start listing the specs of their computer?
All my specs on my Computers are identical except:
Boot ROM Version - MBP31.0070.B02 (The one that's dropping airport)
    SMC Version: 1.16f8
    The Specs on airport:
Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x87)
    Wireless Card Firmware Version: 1.1.8.5
    Wireless Channel: 1
BTW - When you say "router" do you mean the Airport base station?
    Thanks,

  • Why does my Mac Book Pro wifi signal come and go constantly?

The wifi icon at the top of the computer screen shows that I am connected but when I click on it, it keep going from "On" to "Looking for networks".  I just bought a upper end wireless router after the Cable repair guy said it was the wireless router.  It still does it.  The computer is noticeably faster when I plug directly into the router.

  • HT204409 wifi on 3gs drop in and out why?

why does my wifi drop in and out on my 3gs ?

    Power cycle the Wi-Fi router.
Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    Does the issue still occur?
If so, try a restore as new.
If it still continues, you may have a hardware issue.  Take it to Apple for evaluation.

  • MacBook not connecting to home wifi router only

I may be going completely mad, but this morning my black MacBook 13inch just lost connection with my home wifi signal all of a sudden. My iMac, iBook G4, iPhone all continue to work normally. I thought it was my Airport card which may be faulty. I get the SSID signal, but when I type in the WPA string, it would just time out. I tried unenabling security on my router, but still cannot connect with the MB.
I took it into the Apple Store, to see a Genius, and managed to connect to the Apple store wifi with no problem, so it seems its not the Airport Card. Saw the Genius and he reset my PRAM, reconfigured the Network settings etc.
Got home, and same thing, still cannot connect to the home wifi.
I think there's a conflict somewhere between the router and the my MacBook, any ideas?
Could it be the latest 10.6.5?

I just had a similar problem unexpectedly occur. I have 2 MacBooks (both 10.6.5) on the same network - G only. One Macbook can no longer connect to our wireless, but the other is still working normally. The Macbook that can not connect to the home network can still connect to a neighbors unprotected wireless. Also 2 iphones can no longer access the wireless connection. I'd happily blame the cable modem, but one MacBook has no problems. Any ideas?

  • Impossible to reconnect to home WIFI Network

    Hi,
I bought a Blackberry Q5 about a month ago, replacing my old Blackberry Curve. I actually have a number of problems with this phone, but more about those later - my big problem is the wifi connection. When I first activated the phone I was able to connect to my home WIFI network without any difficulty - entered the WEP key and that was it. This morning my phone suddenly informed me that it had disconnected me from my saved home wifi network. Impossible to reconnect, so I deleted the saved profile and tried reconnecting. When I enter the WEP key, it manages to "associate with the network" at the second attempt out of two (first attempt fails usually but then the Q5 tries again automatically) but I then get an error message "unable to authenticate against the network. verify saved network security settings". I have not changed ANY settings and it worked before. Note that two other computers are also connected to my WIFI router via ethernet cable (but also occasionally via wifi) and the internet connection works fine for those computers. Also, my wife has her smartphone (not a Blackberry) connected to the router via wifi and it works fine for her. Can someone please help? I don't have a 4G mobile signal at home so downloading mails and surfing the net via the mobile phone network is very slow and frustrating
Two other complaints I have re the Q5:
    1) with my old Blackberry Curve I was able to log onto the local blackberry site  ( http://www.blackberry.orange.fr/ ) and set the parameters of how and which email messages were sent to my Blackberry - for example only messages received from certain addresses or (more importantly) only the message headers. For this latter option it was then possible to either delete unwanted messages directly from the server or only to download for SPECIFIC messages the message body with or without attachments. This feature was especially useful when travelling abroad - which I do regularly - in order to limit expensive roaming bills for downloading large amounts of unwanted or unimportant data (before enabling this feature for my Curve I had a nasty surprise of very expensive roaming bills). It seems that it is impossible to programme a Q5 to filter for specific messages and / or to download message headers only in the first instance. This is NOT progress - does anyone have any suggestions of a work around?
    2) My Curve allowed me to set the alarm clock so that the phone would "wake up" and sound the alarm at the correct time even if the phone was turned off. It seems that this is impossible with a Q5 - if so, that is moronic, some of us do not want to have our phones turned on 24/7!
    Many thanks in advance

Thanks for your reply. I managed to reconnect to the wifi by deleting the home wifi saved profile and reconnecting.
    Excellent!

The lask of filtering option is very annoying, that was one of the main advantages of Blackberry mail for me. with Google searches I have read that Blackberry now offers the filtering and email header services I want, using their Blackberry Enterprise service - but i rather fear that this is an extra (paying) service and I am not a company...
BES has always existed, so that is not really a proper correlation. BES indeed is a higher level of service, available for both legacy as well as BB10 devices. But, by itself, BES offers no filtering of the type you originally requested...what BES does is provide an even tighter integration between the remote BB devices and the messaging server (e.g., Exchange, Notes, etc.).
The real difference here is BIS...BIS had filtration services. BB10 does not use BIS, and hence that service is removed.
With BB10, the solution to your situation, as you originally described it, is at the server...and this holds true if it's BES or not. On your server, you need to configure whatever rules you desire. What I do is to leave an Outlook client running all the time, and it has rules built into the client, which move messages around to different places. Any messages that are moved out of the Inbox and into some other folder are then removed from my device Inbox as well. So the result is the same as if I were using BIS -- actually, it's better...all BIS did was say to send the message to the device or not...no other processing possible...with Outlook, I can automatically move the messages around to wherever I desire them to be, and my Inbox is uncluttered on all clients that work with that same email server.

Liekwise, using the alarm feature has suited me since I thus can use my phone to wake me up instead of having to use an oldfashioned alarm clock. But if I am in a different time zone I want to be able to turn off the phone in order to avoid having someone call me at 3 am....
Oh...very simple to accomplish...simply turn off the Mobile Network connection, and you won't receive any phone calls at all. Or modify your notifications and turn the phone ringer off.

  • Satellite L50-B-1N8 - weak wifi signal

    Hi,
So two weeks ago I purchased a new Toshiba Satellite L50-B-1N8 laptop from Argos.
It has never had too good a wifi signal strength (never full bars - even when sat next to the wifi router) but I figured that was due to my wifi box and maybe also the rubbish weather we've been having.
However I still have my old laptop, and when checking the wifi signal side by side, my old Samsug Laptop was picking up full or almost full signal whilst this new Toshiba was picking up one bar at a push.
I have since taken the laptop to my parents and it struggles to get good wifi signal, if any signal there also.
This is super frustrating as it will pick up wifi, it will just pick up a very weak signal or none at all and as soon as I move my laptop .. literally a couple of centimetres, it will change wifi signal or my wifi signal will cut out and it will be unable to connect.
I have done everything possible that I can think of, from troubleshooting to actually factory resetting my laptop, none of which has worked so far. The factory reset seems to have actually made it worse rather than better!
Like I say, my router is not the problem here, I have my old laptop that connects fine, along with two other laptops and mobile devices that all have connected to the wifi fine and with full signal!
I have turned all these devices off from wifi to see if that's the problem, but that did not help either. I also have a wifi booster in the house, so all the devices have full or very nearly full signal, but that seems no help to this Toshiba.
I am losing my tether, is there anything else I can do? I am still in the Argos 30 day guarantee if the laptop is faulty, but I just cannot think of anything else to try. I just hope that if the Laptop is faulty that Argos will help and either refund the laptop or exchange.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated. :)

I think first of all you should check if the wireless performance issue isnt related to the power saving settings.
Go to control panel ? Windows power options.
    Choose the current power plan
Now you should click on Advanced Power Settings.
Within Advanced Power settings you will find different options, Search for Wireless LAN (WiFi) and choose Performance for both options (battery and Main power)
    After that reboot the unit.
Hopefully this short change would help you.

  • Sudden Weak WiFi signal on 3Gs

Over the last month or so I've experienced a big drop-off in my 3Gs's ability to latch-on to my local home WiFi signal. I've not recently upgraded, or changed settings on the phone. An example; my BT Home Hub router sits in my office and casts a strong signal throughout my timber-frame house, (and I know the signal's still fine because my 3-yr-old Macbook, which I use anywhere and everywhere, and spanking new iMac display full WiFi bars and the speed is excellent.) I normally access the web via my iPhone from my living-room, which is no more than 20 Yards from the router, and up until a month or so ago, enjoyed a full reception on the iPhone also, but now nothing. Zilch. (There is one small corner where I can sometimes pick up one bar.)
I'm composing this message on the iMac, which displays the full WiFi signal, with my iPhone propped up next to it and displaying zero WiFi reception. We are about eight yards away from the router.
(I realise this topic is closely linked to others already posted, but it's something that Apple should really be responding to; they obviously have people who keep an eye on forums like these to monitor feedback about their products, and connectivity issues seem to be a bit of a hot potato at the moment.)
My hunch is that the iPhone's capability to receive a WiFi signal has somehow become compromised, being as all other devices - and Apple devices at that - work fine.
    Can somebody help.
    Thx.

Weak WiFi reception seems to be a suddenly common problem.  We just traveled to Holland last week, and all three of our iPhones were useless, and unable to pick up wifi signals.  We got back to the states, and the problem continues.
My iPhone must be within a few feet of a wifi router or will see no signals.  I visited an Apple reseller who told me to update my iPhone software to solve the problem.  Now I have NO signal reception unless my phone is at the router... any router.
Today I went to the Genius Bar, where the Genius reset my phone, and told me I have a hardware problem: my wifi card in my phone is no good, and I have to replace my phone.  I thought this was suspicious at best, turned to the forums, and discovered many, many, many people have the same problem!!!
We can't all suddenly have the same hardware problem, but we all can have the same software problem.  This seems to be a well known bug based upon what I've read here.
I am about to do a total RESTORE on my iPhone to see if it solves the problem.
I agree with another's comment: Come on, Apple, fess up and fix it.

  • Loss of 3g, Wifi, signal off & on, phone keeps freezing, ringer works off & on

Over the past 3 weeks I have been experiencing a lot of problems with my phone. My 3G (when its on) goes in and out, the little circle comes up, I lose signal repeatedly, drop calls, error sending and receiving text, Wifi goes in and out even though we have full signal and my husband is sitting next to me on his wifi and our computer is connected fine. It is constantly freezing up, taking almost 2 minutes at the most to unfreeze. The ringer will ring for one call but not for the next and its the same with text messages. I have done both a hard and soft reset and the problem keeps on....what is going on with my phone? I purchased in Oct 2012 so I haven't even had it a year.

  • My macbook air will not detect my home wifi anymore!

    In Summary:
Macbook air used to work perfectly on home wifi
Wifi dropped one day and all devises lost connection but when the wifi was fixed the MBA wouldn't detect it anymore even though all other devises did
MBA still works on all other wifi networks
How can I get my MBA to detect the home wifi again / why won't they link anymore?
My home wifi (Sky is the provider) dropped one day because the lines went down but after it was fixed the macbook air (2012) stopped detecting it..
The macbook will detect any other wifi network (office, public, friends houses etc) and works perfectly but will not even pick up the home wifi.
This is particularly confusing because all other devises including iphones, laptops, tablets etc will detect my home wifi without a problem.
The only time it has connected to the home wifi since dropping is when my laptop picked up my neighbour's wifi (which is rare where i live as houses are far apart) and then my home wifi showed up and worked perfectly until i closed the MBA and it wouldnt pick it up again
I have been without internet in my house for c. 6 weeks now even though the laptop appears to work ok on other networks and the home wifi works perfectly with other devices
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Go to System Preferences > Network. Select Wi-Fi or AirPort from the left column. Click the Advanced... button.
Under the Preferred Networks list, select every Wi-Fi network that appears, including the one(s) you want to use, and delete every one using the "–" (minus) button. Select the box "Remember networks this computer has joined" if it is not already selected.
    OK then Apply.
Select your wireless network in your Mac's Wi-Fi menu and provide your wireless network password. Be sure the network you select is yours and not someone else's.
