Home Wireless Router Cascading

I had a WRT610N wireless router that was working fine and just replaced it with a e4200.  Everything on the e4200 is also working fine, as far as I can tell.  I want to redeploy the WRT610N in the far reaches of my home as a wireless hub to add range to my network.  I supposed that I could connect a LAN cable to the 610N get a DHCP address from the e4200 and then pass wireless traffic that connects to the 610N to the e4200.  However it does not seem to work.  I cannot get an IP address from the e4200.
Is using a 610N router as a wireless hub something that should be possible?
Thanks for your help.
Bill

  • Home wireless router recommendations

I just bought the HP Touch 600XT PC all in one.   I would like to set my home for wireless regardless where I am in the home to access the printer-HP J4680 all in one printer.  I watch the video on "Know your PC".   What would you recommend for me to purchase what home wireless router system.  I am considering the router range- needing a repeater.   Down the road I will be looking at a lap top to be added to the net work.

  • What info do I need to enter to access my home wireless router when setting up my new IPad?

While setting up my new IPad I keep having trouble connecting to my home wireless router.  It keeps telling me to pick a wi-fi network from the list it gives me of ones that are available.  I choose my home wi-fi network that is password protected and it places a check mark next to the name.  From that point it does nothing.  It says "connecting to network" and the circle icon appears and seems to be searching for the connection but nothing ever happens.  The lock symbol remains next to my wireless network name and I can't seem to continue with my IPad set-up.  My router (Belkin) has a card where I recorded the information from its set-up and it has a SSID, a password and a network name.  These description don't seem to correspond with the descriptions that my IPad is asking me for and I haven't been able to go further.  PLEASE HELP!!

Connect to a router via web browser from another device, open "settings" -> "wireless"( sequence and title of menu depending on model and manufacturer of your router) and try to change wireless mode to 802.11N or if this mode not accessable, to 802.11g mode only. Save this settings( router will reboot) and connect Ipad2.

My wireless router is that TP-LINK and it`s firmware is updated to the latest version. (I using the stock firmware). There are no wireless network in range, that are using the same channel as mine is. The latency is happening to my friends connected to my router too. I am using wicd for network manager, and wicd-curses for network manager front-end.
I will post more info if needed.
Please advise me what can I do.
    Regards

Okay well I can see nothing that would cause this in anything you've posted. Especially if your friends are experiencing this too.
I would either try downgrading the firmware (If after upgrading this happened). However, I see that your TL-WR1043ND is VERY well supported by Open-WRT. You may want to give it a look.
Remember that the WiFi channels are overlapped. Try getting as far away as possible from other networks.
Ensure you are running WPA-PSK with the AES cipher and a key of 63 pseudorandom characters. This way others are not using your WiFi to torrent and suck bandwidth.
Try to stick to 802.11g but if at all possible go with 802.11n. Also if possible move up to the 5Ghz band to get out of the way of other things using the 2.4Ghz uncontrolled spectrum block.
If your router is running things like DHCP, DNS, FTP, SMB, SSH, NTP, VPN, Etc... Quit it. Your TL-WR1043ND is running a 400Mhz processor with 32Mb of memory.
That's basically all the advice I've got. Hope that get's the ball rolling on fixing this for you.

  • Problem connecting Nokia C3 to home wireless route...

    Good day, Nokia!
I recently bought a Nokia C3-00 WiFi phone but I can't seem to browse my home wireless connection with it. The phone can detect and connect with the wireless network successfully but when I open my mobile browser, it can't load websites, saying "Service not available."
However, I can connect and browse the internet through other WiFi hotspots, just not my home connection. The router I'm using is LP-8616. It's an AP router, if that helps. Unfortunately, there's no firmware upgrade for this router anymore.
I've read all the threads about this problem here and all over the internet but still nothing works for me. Hope you or somebody here could help me to finally solve this problem. More Power!

Allsolution from another post, see /t5/Cseries/C3-wifi-problem-connect-to-wlan-but-internet-not-work/m-p/950115#M14517. Found out how to solve the problem of connecting via WLAN in the following way (the phone was able to connect to the Internet only through the GSM provider network):
Step 1: Menu> Settings> Configuration> Personal Settings> Add> Web or Streaming or any other (Just add, needs no other settings)
Step 2: Menu> Settings> Configuration> Default config. settings (choose MyWeb, Personal Settings or the name created at step 1)
Step 3: Menu> Settings> Configuration> Personal settings (delete the field created in step 1) then go to Menu> Settings> Configuration> Preferred access point (choose one of the available options)
Now you can open your browser and try to connect. It should ask what method you choose (WLAN or Access Point Preferred)
If your phone does not want to be connected via the GSM provider network, the user can manually enter settings for defining an Access Point (Step 4)
Step 4: Menu> Settings> Configuration> Personal Settings> Add> Access Point (check with GSM provider for account settings)
Step 5: Menu> Settings> Configuration> Preferred access point (select the field you created earlier)
I know that what I wrote above may seem like science fiction for a user who is not accustomed to butoneasca phone and non-stop, but I assure you that the operation should take no longer than 5 minutes.

  • Trouble connecting to home wireless router

I'm using a Belkin wireless router with security mode of WPA/WPA2-Personal (PSK).
My iPod touch 2G used to be able to connect to the wireless network, but it can't now. It gives me incorrect password message. Only thing I've done is update the software to 3.0.

thank you SOOO much!!! I had been struggling for a couple of hours and this solved it all in under five minutes. it seems to be when you change from WEP (my old router) to WPA2 (new router) and not just 3.0. I have a Touch with 2.0 and it was the same story. thanks again!

Does a wireless router such as the DLink provide WiFi connectivity to the PRE? The Sprint network coverage at our house is rather poor.

  • Wireless router cascade

First router is a WRT54G router connected to cable modem.  This WRT54G is transmitting on wireless WPA and works fine.  Second router is WRT54G2 and the ip address is 192.168.1.2 and set as a "router" instead of "gateway".  All settings seem to be working to pass thru for a "wired connection".  The wireless setup of the second router is the exact same WPA but does not seem to be working with the computers in the area of the second router.  Signal strength is poor right in the same room (which is what it was before).  What have I missed?  Thank you for answering....

Make sure both the Router's are connected using the LAN Port's...
Make sure DHCP Server on the second router is set to Disabled...
Wireless channel on Router #1 should be 11 and Wireless Channel on the Router #2 should be either 1 or 5...Do a complete Power Cycle...

  • How to setup Time Capsule as wireless router cascaded under another router

I'm lodged on the second floor of a house where I get one ethernet cable coming out of an old 4-port NETGEAR router (connected to an ADSL modem that) on the first floor. The router gets an IP from the ADSL 87.xx.xx.xx and re-leases on the LAN 192.168.0.2 thorugh 99.
Up here I would like to set up my Time Capsule to create a wireless network. I need to use the connection coming out of the downstairs router.
All configurational combinations of these two routers that I've tried (plenty) are giving me horrible network conflicts between the Time Capsule and the down-stairs router. Even if I use static IP (192.168.1.100) and enable bridge mode on my Time Capsule, I get slow pings and 30% package loss pinging 192.168.1.1 (the router downstairs).
ADSL straight to the Time Capsule and assisted setup works fine so cables and my other hardware seem ok.
I've got access to configure all devices as I wish.
    Thankful for help.

    NO. Things are not ok!
Just as I accepted the package-losses and lowered experienced surfing-speed I realized that I couldn't send mails or upload files to my ftp.
Now I get systematic. I test both my wired and wireless connections with ping and through www.speedtest.net.
    Test
    Ethernet to my iMac:
Ethernet to bridged TC and wireless to my iMac
    Speedtest.net (down)
    1.98 mbps
    1.90 mbps
    Speedtest.net (up)
    1.74 mbps
    0.02 mbps
    Ping* to router
    0.8ms (0% package loss)
    2.5ms (5% package loss)
    Ping* to apple.com
    178ms (6% package loss)
    190ms (5% package loss)
    * Ping averages calculated on 100 pings
What can one conclude / suspect from these numbers? Why does my upspeed drop? I also feel that it's slower to surf wirelessly. I don't feel that the 1.98 to 1.74 mbps drop accounts for that though. I know that conversion to wireless should make for a speed-loss. (I read 10% which seems to be what I measured here).

  • E72 connectivity to Wireless Router

    HI
I have E72. I need to connect internet in my laptop via E72.
First I need to connect my E72 to my home wireless router & then want to use
this connectivity to run internet in my laptop.
I want mobile option to work as one of my OS doesnot have wireless driver.
I searched & googled lot but in vain.
Kindly help me to configure this.

So that is a configuration that will definitely work? WET54 connected to a wired or wireless router so that you can join two networks.
What I have been thinking of is replacing one of the antennas of a WRT54G with a directional 14dB antenna. Then use a WET54 also with a directional antenna pointed at the WRT54G. Another WRT54G connected to the WET54 to provide a wireless signal to the remote location.
I had thought of a Range Extender but there is nothing to provide power at end of the range of the first WRT54G.

  • MacBook Pro Cannot Connect to Wireless Router

I have a brand new MBP and it won't connect to any non-apple wireless routers
    - my computer is 2 days old (it's awesome and I love it accept that I can't get wireless connection at home)
    - wireless router: westell versalink model 327 W
    - PROBLEM: my mbp will detect the network just fine, but won't connect to it...just times out, it will connect to a neighbors linksys, but cannot load any internet pages, so still not helpful. When I try to connect to the wirelesss router using the network utility it asks for a WEP password, which it never did before because it's an open wireless router. (I know you should always password protect, but it's not my router...I'm just in the same house)
    - I had a powerbook G4 and ibooks that have all connected fine to the same wireless network. My dad has an HP laptop that also connects fine
    - it only connects to the apple brand airport wireless routers
    - it will connect to the wireless router if I plug in the ethernet cord
    - I have tried checking the connections, allowing all connections, repairing my disk permissions (even though my computer is only 2 days out of the box), resetting the router, opening the router so no password is needed...NOTHING WORKS!
    - I also tried another wireless router (netgear): doesn't work
I've been reading around in some forums and this seems to be an apple and maybe more specifically a macbook pro issue (just by process of elimination). One forum said that it was because of an airport update that basically "breaks" mbp's airport and makes it not accept any non airport wireless connections, apple supposedly is working on a fix but who knows
I'm feeling disappointed and very upset that this is even a problem, especially with how many people I read are dealing with the same issue wit still no solution. My mbp was far from cheap and this just shouldn't be an issue. I'm planning on contacting apple and getting to bottom of this or at least some kind of answer.

    - it will connect to the wireless router if I plug in the ethernet cord
this is because there is an actual physical connection between the router and the machine, so the router allows the connection automatically. i believe ALL wireless routers have a "Wireless Access List" in their config. the owner of the wireless router must add any machine or device seeking to gain access to the wireless router. consult your routers documentation on how to access the router from a web page and add your machine. this is usually done by adding the machine's mac address to the wireless access list. i added my 15"mbp and iphone to my netgear wireless router in about ten minutes and have no problem connecting every time.
also, when making any changes in Network Preferences, be sure to "Apply" after any change or adding any wep key. let me know if you have any questions.

  • Home wireless connection instable

    Hi,
I wonder if anybody can suggest me a valid solution:
I have an IBM thinkpad with an Aironet PCI wireless LAN adapter.
It worked fine with my home wireless router for months.
Recently It started to have problems: the connection frequently stops (then after few minutes the software try to reconnect with success).
The router is ok, as nothing has changed in its cfg and another portable works fine with wireless during stops.
The only change I've done recently on my thinkpad was enabling a dial-in modem (but I've already disabled it now).
The SW diagnostics says: "error code 208 - association expired".
I've checked everytin but I can't solve it...
    Thank you
    GF
    OS: Windows XP SP2

I'm going for the long ball here, but you said you are using the Aironet card. Is that Cisco/ Aironet or the way back when aironet?
Anyway, please check to make sure windows wireless zero configurator is disabled.
    Start/settings/control panel/administrative tools/services/wireless zero configuaration.
should be stopped and disabled if it is not already. This effectively kills the windows ability to find networks and manage profiles, but if you are already doing that with the PCI card then the other service must be turned off, or they will contend with each other, which usually manifests in a series of drops and reassociations as they fight for control.
Also, you didn't mention what channel you were on, but it is possible somebody else has cranked up there own utensil nearby and it is interfering with you. Change the channels to see if the issue gets better and since you are probably already on 6, try 1 and 11 (only)!

  • Losing home wireless connection intermittently

Every so often, I have to re-enter the key code for our home wireless router into the iPod Touch (64gb). Most of the time I don't, and the Touch works like you'd expect - immediately connecting to Safari, local weather, everything internet-wise.
Unfortunately, for the past few weeks there have been a couple of occasions where the Touch apparently has forgotten the key code as nothing connects. In fact an entry screen pops up saying 'wrong password' or something to that effect, and asks for the password to our home router (which it specifically and correctly names). However, passwords don't work, but re-entering the key code gets it working again.
This has been a pain as the code is about 24 alpha-numeric characters long. I have to look them up in a safekeeping spot which is a bit of a hassle.
Does anyone know why the iPod Touch would be losing this information only on occasion?
    Thanks in advance

To check on or change things on a router is actually done through a browser - you can use your Mac or your son's PC, doesn't matter. If you type in http://192.168.1.1 in the browser window, you will open the router control software. If you haven't set a password (which you should do) you can get into the router control software and make changes to suit your network. You will probably want to review the router documentation before you do this or view the manual online.
    Here's some router terms defined:
SSID is your network name. You can choose to broadcast it or not. For troubleshooting I would broadcast it.
WEP is an encryption format for wireless networking. It is dated, doesn't work well with the touch, and is best replaced with WPA2-psk.
MAC address filtering is a security scheme that limits connections to devices you select, each of which as an unique MAC address. Leave it turned off.
DHCP is a routine that assigns IP addresses to devices on the network. This works for wired and wireless devices.
When you are looking down through all of this stuff, note the firmware version the router is using. Check the Linksys website for newer versions of the firmware. Do download and install them - that alone may correct your problems.

I have the WRT54GS wireless router cascaded from another router. I forgot the password for wireless and cant login i tried 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2 and no luck any ideas? thanks

Check from the hardwaired computer what is the default gateway ...... by default it should be 192.168.1.1 .......... Use the same in address bar of browser ....it will ask you for username & password .....
If you had not changed the password of router while installation of the router for the first time ...... then the password is "admin" (without quotes) ..... no username required ....
If it is not working .... you need to reset the router ..... for few seconds ....
After that again try admin password ...........

  • Can't connect to home wireless, connection failed.

After browsing these forums for a few hours and others alike I can't seem to find anyone with a similar problem to mine. Which is quite simply to connect to my home wireless router.
The problem started after returning home from a weekend away, I chose to turn my Mac off completely whilst I was away.
Upon booting my Mac up, it did not connect to my wireless network. I checked my iPhone to see if that was connected which it was. So as a quick thought I rebooted my router which had no effect. I checked my PS3 to see if that still connected and it does, to which I booted up bootcamp which is also connecting fine which removes hardware problems from the list.
My Wi-Fi is on, the router is broadcasting and there is no interfering channels. All it says when I try and connect is connection failed.
I've tried many different things such as removing the network from the known wireless network list, removed the network from keychain, rebooted my Mac several times, cleared PRAM. All to no effect.
Am I missing something painstakingly obvious?
    Thanks
    Matt

Please take all the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take the applicable steps in this support article. The Wireless Diagnostics program generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 2
Run Software Update and install all available updates for OS X or your computer's firmware.
    Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. Continue if you find that Wi-Fi is faster with Bluetooth disabled.
From that same menu, select Open Bluetooth Preferences. If there is a box marked Discoverable and it's checked, uncheck it. Click the Advanced button, and in the sheet that opens, uncheck the boxes, if any are checked. Click OK. Enable Bluetooth and test again.
If the application called "Bluetooth Setup Assistant" is running, quit it (not applicable to OS X 10.9 or later.)
    Step 4
Open the Network pane in System Preferences and make a note of your settings in the Wi-Fi service. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the various tabs in the preference pane. If the preference pane is locked, unlock it by clicking the padlock icon and entering your administrator password. Delete Wi-Fi from the service list on the left by selecting it and clicking the minus-sign button at the bottom. Then recreate the service by clicking the plus-sign button and following the prompts.
    Step 5
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 6
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.
