HomeHub 2.0 Range Extender Compatability?

Hi There
I have seen from doing a quick search on the internet that there seems to be a few problems adding a range extender to the HomeHub 2.0 (unless you change the encryption type).... does anyone know of a compatible range extender I could use? I am not too concerned about proce.... would just like to plug a coverage hole in my living room.
Thanks.

Hi bolgerp,
Check out the article below, it has some info on boosting the wireless signal:
What can I do to improve the wireless range between my wireless router / BT Home Hub and computers?
Though I'm sure some of the other forum guys have some advice on this too

  • Range extender compatable with Westell 7500

I want to extend my DSL wireless to my garage/shop, about 150 feet from the house where my Westell 7500 router is located.  In doing a search I saw that a Verizon rep recommended the Linksys Range Expander, WRE54G.  However, there was no mention of the wireless router being used.  Is that expander compatable with the Westell 7500 or is there another alternative that will work so I can use my laptop in the shop?

Just spoke with Linksys tech support and they said 'no' to a G range extender with an N network. (I have WRT150N router and WUSB300 adapter.) Wanted to boost the signal, but they said the router already has a built-in range extender and the WRE54G wouldn't help.

  • HT4260 Can I use a Netgear Universal WN3000RP Wi-Fi Range Extender?

Can I use a Netgear Universal WN3000RP Wi-Fi Range Extender with my Airport Express to extend the range?
If so, is there anything that I need to do in order to configure my computer for it to work properly?
Are there any disadvanges to doing this (speed, signal strength)?
    Thanks.

You always want to stay with the same manufacturer if possible for your wireless needs to insure compatibility. If you have a recent version AirPort Express now, using another Express to "extend" the wireless signal will usually work well if there are not too many obstructions for the signal to overcome.
We cannot say if the Netgear device might work for you or not.....it was not compatible with Apple when we tried a sample a few months ago.....but with wireless, you never really know.
Let's just say that the product may not be as "universal" as the title might suggest. There are likely some footnotes in the Netgear materials that their product will not work with devices that use "proprietary" settings, as Apple does.
If you try the Netgear device, let us know how it works for you.

  • Second WRT610N as wirelessN range extender?

I link to the internet through a highspeed DSL broadband connection with an  ISP-supplied 2wire modem/router.
From this modem/router, I have an RJ-45 cable connection to a Linksys WRT610Nv2 Wireless Router, which I have set up as a wireless access point.
There is a major dead spot in my building (concrete and steel construction) which I have tried to correct with a Linksys WRE54G wireless-G range extender.  This has proven to be an ineffective solution, the signal does not reach more than five feet from the extender and is slow.
    I have these questions:
    1.  Can I set up second WRT610N as another wireless access point (with my same network settings) to function as a seamless range extender?   I presume I need to run a cable from the ATT modem/router to this second WRT610N.
    2. Does Linksys have another solution?  Does Linksys have a  wireless-N range extender?
    3. Is the best solution the Hawking Technologies Wireless 300N Range Extender, which does not have to be wired to the ISP modem/router?   Is this device compatable with the Linksys wireless-N Router [WAP]?

It is always better to use ethernet cable in terms of speed. Though it's a little messy with wires all over.
    1. Yes. You need to run a cable from the modem to the 2nd router.
    2. I think there is. You need to search linksys website or call/chat with their support for more details.
    3. Though it might work with your current setup, compatibility will be an issue. I'd suggest pair it with a linksys extender/expander.

  • Using AirPort Express as a WiFi Range Extender

I have a Westell Versalink 327 W combination DSL Modem and Wireless Router downstairs hooked up to an iMac via ethernet cable. Can I use the AirPort Express as a WiFi Range Extender upstairs? Any issues I should be aware of?

I suggest that you check with DLink on this as using the same manufacturer will always give you the best chance at compatibility.
    Maybe this would do it:

  • HT4145 How can I use an Airport Extreme to act as a Range Extender for an Alcatel One Touch Y800Z WiFi modem/router? I get a message saying it cannot be extended. Thank you. Arup

How can I use an Airport Extreme to act as a Range Extender for an Alcatel One Touch Y800Z WiFi modem/router? As we live in a rural area and our landline broadband speeds are awful, I have moved on to a 3G provider in the UK (EE/Orange) and set up the wireless modem which is working very well with an iMac. I have an Airport Extreme base station which was previously connected with an Ethernet cable to the landline router, and two Airport Express stations as Range Extenders. I would now like to use the Airport Extreme and the two Express stations to extend the range of the Alcatel WiFi device. I have tried automatic and manual set up with the Airport Utility but at the crucial step for selecting a network to extend, although the WiFi device is recognised, I get a message saying it cannot be extended.
Thank you for any help you can provide.
    Arup

This is a problem with a lot of cheap end wifi hotspot like devices.. sometimes you can just swap the sim out to a real 3G wireless router.. that is a better approach IMHO than wireless repeater ever will be.
    In the meantime..
Have a go with the suggestion.. place the express as wireless bridge. With a computer connected to the wifi from alcatel unit.. (I am amazed Alcatel still are in domestic market.. I thought they sold out). Set the express to join the wifi.. you do this in the airport utility.. old one is easy.. but in v6 you have to trust to luck so to speak and hope the auto setup works.. tell us if you have trouble.
With the Express bridging.. you can then plug it by ethernet into the TC.. which will be in router bridge..
    ie
You can then run the connection from wireless or ethernet on the TC.. and it will relay back to the alcatel for internet.. all a bit dodgy but who knows.. it may give you what you need.
Wireless repeater is never particularly reliable in my experience. I would avoid it if possible.

  • Can I use an airport express as a range extender to a NON apple router using an internet cable (so not wireless)

can I use an airport express as a range extender to a NON apple router using an internet cable (so not wireless)

Yes, if the AirPort Express is set up to create a wireless network that uses the exact same wireless network name as the other router and the same wireless network password as the other router.

  • Which range extender works with the Linksys CIT400 phone?

Which range extender works with the Linksys CIT400 VoIP phone? Can I use any range extender from any other comany or does it have to be one from Linksys? I am not sure if the CIT400 uses standard frequences.
On a side note, where's the forum for the phones? I see one in the archives section which seems to be ready only.

You can use the Linksys WRE54G range expander. For that matter, any 2.4Ghz range expander will work. But what’s more important is what router you would be using the range expander with!! Which router are you using?

  • Connecting to netgear range extender

I have a netgear wifi router and connected the netgear wn2000 range extender to push the wifi upstairs in my home. My ipad detects the extender and shows it on the list of available networks then prompts me to enter the password to connect. The ipad keypad pops up so i can type in the password but no letters will type in the password field. The keypad is working for all other functions such as email and google etc. Is anyone using this netgear range extender and if yes, how did you connect. Any problems entering the password? Thanks!

You sure can use the netgear extender with your verizon router.... just DONT follow netgear's instructions. After messing around for hours with no luck I tried this and it worked.
    1) turn OFF your laptop's wireless connection
    2) Connect your laptop to the extender's Ethernet port and plug in the extender
    3) after the extender boots it will show two lights
    4) open your browser and it should take you right to the extender's genie
    5) follow all the prompts using your Verizon router's id and password
    6) disconnect the Ethernet connection and turn the laptop's wireless back on
    Good luck

  • I am trig to connect my apple range extender with my xfinity router

    Hi
I am tryong to use my apple range extender with my xfinity rouder, is this possible

Apple range extender? There is no such thing... Do you have an Airport Express?
Plus you have Xfinity... owned by the nations most annoying and not loved ISP.
    Good luck.
However, not all is lost, I recommend getting  an Ethernet cable and run it between the two points you wish to cover with wifi.
Plug one end into the Xfinity LAN side, plug the other end into the Airport and configure the wifi name accordingly.

  • 2 Airport extremes, one as base and one as a range extender?

Hope someone can help. I have 2 aiport extremes n version. I want to use one as a base station (which it is already) and another as 'range extender'. Airport utility only seems to allow a set up as a base station but I just what to open up a new bit of our house...any wireless wizz's out there?

You can check your critical settings as follows using AirPort Utility - Manual Setup:
    On the "main" AirPort Extreme
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network
Make sure you have a check mark next to "Allow this network to be extended"
    Update to save settings
    On the "remote Airport Extreme
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
Wireless Mode = Extend a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = Exact same name as "Main" network
Check mark next to "Allow wireless clients"
Wireless Security = Exact same setting as "Main" network
Wireless Password = Exact password as "Main" network
    Update to save settings
You may need to experiment to find the best placement for the "remote" AirPort Extreme. Start with it positioned approximately 1/2 to 2/3 of the distance between the "Main" router and the general area that needs more wireless coverage.

  • How to connect TP-Link TL-WA850RE(EU) Range extender to airport Time Capsule

please let me know if i can use TP-link range extender to extend my wifi network of my new airport time capule

Apple's "extend a wireless network" feature has been designed to allow other Apple devices to communicate with each other to extend a network wirelessly.
It is unlikely that a 3rd party device could be configured to "extend" a wireless network provided by an Apple router.....but I suppose anything is always possible.
There would be two ways to find out:
    1) Try it out yourself. If you think that you might have it set up, we can give you a connection test to verify that the TP Link device is actually extending the wireless signal.....not simply joining it.
    2) Wait to hear from another user who has the same products who has set this up. Unfortunately, the chances that another user who has the same products will ever see your post are extremely small....but again, anything is possible.
If you have not already purchased a device to extend the Time Capsule network, an AirPort Express could be configured to extend the network literally automatically in about 2 minutes....and...the Express will extend both bands of your dual band Time Capsule.

  • Is the WRE54G range extender compatible with the WRT300N wireless router?

I bought a WRT300N wireless router, hoping it would give me better range than my old hub.  It's pretty good, but I still have dead spots in my apartment.  I'd like to buy a WRE54G range extender, but I don't know if it's compatible.  Anyone try this?

i don't think that the wre54g would work with the n-router .. rather i would suggest you to setup a wap200 or wap54gp wired to the router and configured as an AP ... if it still falls short of the wireless range .. configure another one in a repeater mode ...

  • Router as range extender????

I was told that I could use this router (EA4500) as a range extender for my Uverse service. To do this, do I need to set it up in bridge mode? I'm a novice at this & I'm not sure what I'm doing. Does the router have to remain plugged in to the modem in bridge mode? Thanks for the help!

You can set the router to bridge mode and use it as an access point only. But you cannot set it up as a range extender. It needs to be plugged into the modem always in order to get the internet connection since the modem will serve be your DHCP server. If you need to extend the signal in the network, why not get a range extender instead of a router?
If you still have the classic firmware for the EA4500, check the link below how to set it to bridge:

  • Using airport express as range extender?

I have a airport express that I use as my primary router.
I also have the direct plug in airport express that I'd like to use as a range extender. I'd like to make this one fully wireless so that I can connect in an another room. However, I'm not sure that's possible. Does anyone know how to go about using this as an extender ?

Temporarily, connect an Ethernet cable from your Mac to the older A1264 AirPort Express
Power up the older Express for a few minutes, then hold in the reset button on the side of the Express for 10 seconds and release. Allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility on your Mac
Click on the Other Wi-Fi Devices button, then click on AirPort Express xxxxxxx
AirPort Setup will open up and take a minute to analyze the network and announce that the A1264 Express will be configured to extend the new AirPort Express network.
Enter a device name that you want to use for the older Express and click Next
AirPort Setup will configure the older Express for you. When you see the message of Setup Complete, click Done.
Now you can disconnect the Ethernet cable that you used for the setup and move the older Express to a location that is about half way between the new Express and the general area that needs more wireless coverage. Power up the older Express and you should be all set.
