HomeHub 2 wired connections drop overnight

I have a home network based on a HH2. One (older) laptop and a printer have wired connections to the hub, one (new) laptop has a wireless connection.
The wired laptop is a Sony Vaio running Windows Vista. The wireless laptop is a Samsung running Windows 7.
When I wake the wired laptop after it has been in hibernate mode, the connection to the hub has been lost and the ethernet adapter is no longer shown as installed in Device Manager. The conection can be re-established by re-booting te laptop.
Initially I assumed this was a problem with the laptop and changed the adapter's power settings, as is recommended in various forums, but this made no difference.
Since I have been using the new laptop with a wireless connection to the hub, I have found the connection via the hub to the wired network printer is lost overnight and the printer is no longer shown as installed, even when the machine is re-booted. The printer connection is renewed only by resetting the Home Hub or reinstalling the printer. The wireless connection to the hub and internet is never affected.
This has led me to wonder whether the problem is with the Hub, rather than (both) the laptops. Power Save is not enabld on the hub, so there is no disconnection of the wireless link overnight.
Has anyone had a similar problem or a suggested solution? Help wouldbe much appreciated!

Hi Neil and Joanna,
Get in contact with BT and ask for a BT Home Hub 3.
We got our 7th BT Home Hub 2 - yes i said 7, because they are just c - rap! and now have a BT Home Hub 3 which allows me to use my PS3, iPhone, iPad, and other multiple wireless and ethernet devices connected without any problems.
Not had to reset my BT Home Hub 3 since it was installed 2 ish weeks ago!!

  • Guest-wired access connections drop every 1- 2 minutes

    I have an interesting problem.
My connections to the guest wired access drop consistanly every 1 -2 minutes. There are no drops in the mobility between the WiSM and the 4402 anchor in the DMZ.  DHCp is served from the 4402 DMZ controller as well as thier authentication.
When a user connects to the guest wired access vlan some times they obtain a 169.X.X.X address and after several tries they get the proper 192.168.x.x addres. The user get thier IP address and get the redirect login. They maintain thier internet connection for only 1 - 2 minutes.
DHCP on the 4402 is set for 4hours
    Any thoughts ?
    Mike

Ouch, the forums ate my formatting for that first post!
Thanks for the reply Ray. I should mention that this is a shared house, not a family home, so I cannot always access the devices. I'm the one on the ethernet connection and I've gone into my ethernet adaptor's settings to change my IP address to a static number just below that of the DHCP range whilst leaving DHCP enabled for everyone else. After restarting my computer the connection's still dropping.
Haven't had a chance to reset the hub yet, if that's necessary, as other people are using the connection at the moment.
I do have the admin password for the hub but I'm under the impression a static IP address would have to be set from the devices themselves which I can't access - or can I use Home Network > Devices, check "Always use this IP address" then disable DHCP?

  • Actiontec MI424WR dropping wireless connection intermittently; wired connection works

I've had this router for about two years, with no issues.
Beginning on Saturday, our two laptops and phones began losing their connection to our wireless network, dropping the signal every 30 seconds or so.  I tested the wired connection by plugging the laptops directly into the router, and both computers functioned properly - no issues connecting or staying connected.  I have my Roku hard-wired to the router, and that also has had no issue, so it'd definitely a problem with the wireless signal to my devices.
Spoke to a CS rep, who had me first check the internet signal (green, blinking sporadically, which I was told indicated no issue with the connection), then had me reset the router and unplug.  No dice. She said the internet signal seemed fine, and that "everything looked good on her end", whatever that means.  They're sending a new router which I'll receive today or tomorrow, but I have trepidation.
Has anyone else had this issue?  I saw alot of router issues on the forums, but wasn't sure if everyone was having this specific problem (just wireless connect issues).
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

This turns out to be good advice. I changed the channel on my router settings to 11 (per an earlier post on a different thread), and I haven't had an issue since. Here's the original post: "01-21-2011 11:32 AM that type of problem doesn't sound like a router issue, but instead sounds like a wireless transmission issue. you may be able to resolve that fairly easily.. Try to change the wireless signal. you can do that in the router. open a browser, and go to http://192.168.1.1, user name is admin. and the password is most likely the serial number found on the service tag of your VZ router unless you changed it. Once you login successfully, go to the top and hit wireless, then on the left basic security. then go to option 3 which is channel 1, 6 and 11 and are the only channels you should try. So it will likely be set to auto, change it to 11 and put the check for keep settings even after reboot (Directly under the channel) and then hit apply., after you hit apply, test your connection out, if you notice a difference, leave it like that until the problem happens again, and if it happens again, go back into the router, and try channel 6, test it out. and then finally 1 if the first two don't work."

  • WRT%$G dropping wired connect frequently

Trying to setup a wireless internet with WRT54G v.3 ( using latest firmware 4.2.1 1/30/2007) on Comcast IP w/VOIP modem (Arris TM502G). Seems to work fine when using only MAC address specific. However when adding WEP encyyption, it frequently drop the wired connection. Sometimes the drop is momentary and it reconnects itself. Other times, I have to restart the router. I've been through much of the forums and have spent much too much time on the issue. Problem remains. Currently using borrowed Actiontec MA424WR without issue. Please help would like to get the WRT going so I can return the Actiontec. Thought maybe your technical crew will have an answer for me...thanks Paul

I assume you mean you are using 4.21.1 firmware.
After a firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch.  If you have not done this since the last firmware upgrade, then please do it now and see if it corrects your problem.  If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.
Also, many users have found that WPA works better than WEP.  Please try WPA encryption.

  • Wired Internet connection drops since 10.5.7

Since installing the 10.5.7 update I've had trouble with my Internet connection dropping while I'm using it. I have a wired connection and have checked the cables and the router port and there doesn't seem to be a physical problem. I'll be browsing the Internet and without warning it will suddenly stop working. A minute or two later it will have recovered. This happens every few minutes and it's very aggravating.
I do not use a wireless connection and have turned off Airport.
When the connection drops, I am unable to ping the router. If I run ifconfig I see it has a 169.254.x.x address. Once the system recovers, I can once again ping the router and the IP number is what the router assigns.
I ran cat /var/log/system.log and here is an excerpt:

I don't know if the problem is related to an incompatibility with VMware Fusion or not. I have both Windows and Linux virtual machines on this Mac. I'm not actively using VMware when I have the connectivity problem.

I posted this on an other topic last night
    Hi,
New to this forum. Landed here because of airport issues after 10.5.7. update.
Airport could not connect to my network, but it detected other networks.
I tried some steps suggested in this thread but it didn't work. Then I looked into my router and disabled the "hide accespoint" option. That worked. Airport connected immidiatly. I restarted and still had connection. I then enabled the "hide accespoint" option, restarted, had to log in manualy ("connect to other network"), gave my networkname and password and until now everything works okay.
Maybe the 10.5.7. update chanched something in the airport//router setting/visability.
    Giel.

  • EA 3500 dropping wired connection when online gaming

I  just had Comcast setup my internet and it is really fast. 30 down, 10 up, 40 ping, my connection to my computer (wireless) is very fast and my online gaming (wired) is not laggy at all.
The problem lies with the connection dropping when I am online gaming. I connected directly to the modem and there's no problem at all. I connect to my Linksys EA3500 and once I start playing in an online game, I disconnect from Xbox Live and am dropped from the game... anywhere from right away until about 10-15 minutes into the game. This is  the only time where my connection falters at all, otherwise it is great. But I play online a lot, and competitively, so I obviously need a stable connection.
I have not had this issue with my previous ISP in New York, Time Warner and that connection was much worse. I'm thinking it must be a setting on the router that is causing this, but I can't pinpoint what. I tried automatic AND static connections from my xbox to the router. On the static connection, I even put a DMZ on it, but to no avail. What is causing this hiccup in the connection?
Any suggestions would be great, please and thanks!!

Are you already using the Linksys Smart Wifi? Set up media prioritization in the router and see if that will improve the connection with the xbox. Is the connection intermittent with other devices? Is there like a specific time in the day where your connection will drop?

  • E4200v2 dropping wired connections

I just installed a brand new e4200 replacing my WRT54.
Wireless works good with a noticable performance improvement over my old wireless.
However, the wired conenctions are not solid at all. I am getting over 10% packet loss from the wired conenctions.
I can not even connecct to the web ui reliably over wired connections.
I upgraded to the latest firmware release with no real change at all.
I hope this is an easy fix since the e4200 generally has good reviews Im stumped as to what is going on.

    Try the following steps:
A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
2] Then click on the option which says "Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
3] Lower the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) from 1500 to 1400 or less (usually found on your router's main/ basic setup page)
B] If you haven't installed Cisco Connect then you can log on to the router's user interface using it's default IP address in the browser which is 192.168.1.1 and type in 'admin' as the password leaving the user name field blank. This will take you to the router's web interface and then follow steps as mentioned above to make the changes.
    Then check the connectivity..

  • Desktops dropping wired connection to e4200 and other Linksys routers

    Hi,
On Friday, I lost all Internet connnecitivity on my Linksys e3000.  After determining that my cable modem was connected and working correctly, I pulled the e3000 and put my old wrv54g router in place.  Wireless worked, but all wired connections showed link but no other apparent connectivity.  Neither of my desktops could get a DHCP lease.
At that point, I purchased and manually installed a new e4200 router.  All worked fine.  Both laptops connected via wireless and both desktops via my house LAN.  Until this morning (Monday).  Wireless is working just fine, but both wired computers show 100 Mbs connections on an unknown network with no DHCP.  Checking status shows packets going out, but nothing coming in.  Checking LAN status on the router shows that both ports are connected, but it does not appear to receive anything from either desktop.  All was fine last night.  Oh, the router is on 1.0.03 firmware.
I have tried about everything I can think of.  Configurations both on the router and the desktops (one Windows XP, 64 bit and one Windows 7) and all seems fine.  I have disabled and reenabled the network connectors, rebooted both the router and the computers, etc.  Nothing seems to work.
I am out of ideas and desparate.  Does anyone have any idesa.
    Thanks,
    Mitch

I actually solved the problem, after a long day of trying everything I could think of, and the issue was not the router.  I did a chat session with a Linksys support rep and we figured out that the router was bad.  I replaced it with a new one and still had the same problem.
Long story short, I have a weather unit that connects, via wire, to the Internet to retrieve weather forecasts.  It is hooked up through a ethernet switch, along with my desktop.  For whatever reason, it went flakey and took down everything that was on a wire, including my wife's desktop in another room, which was connected to the router through a hub.  As soon as I pulled the power on the weather device, everything started working.  When I put power back, everything still worked.
Not sure why, or how this happened, but I will take success any way I can get it.
In regards to the e3000 problem, when I was returing the original e4200 for replacement at Best Buy, the guy there said that they had seen the ethernet switch part of the e3000 units fail before.  I had an e3000, which failed last Friday, which was why I purchased the e4200 to replace it.  Of course, my e3000 failed completely, including wireless.

  • Internet connection drops with new HH4....

I recently signed up to a new deal with BT and had to pay for my HH4. I have it all connected up the exact same way as my HH3. I am receiving a faster connection now but am now getting VERY frequent internet connection drops....
My PC is wired to the HH so NOT a wireless issue. I have checked ALL my microfilters and seem to be working. Nothing within my home has changed apart from the homehub. I used to be connectiong at around 6.5Mb, I am now connecting between 7.5 and 8Mb....
9 times out of 10 the connection drops when I receive an incoming call.... but not always. I can make outgoing calls with ZERO issues....

    Shand359tbe wrote:
I forgot to state also that I since removed the HH4 and put my old trusty HH3 back into use......... it does the EXACT same thing now.........
BT engineer was out to fix the line in February of this year. A new main box was fitted (which I was billed for) and he also fitted an iplate to the box to allow the hub to be connected without the need for a filter since they are built in.......
an Iplate will not do away with any filters and they will be required on all sockets - unless you mean a filtered faceplate not iplate - 2 sockets 1 adls and 1 phone

  • BT Infinity - Speed Decrease/Connection Drops

I've had BT Infinity 2 since June/July last year. After the storms and heavy rain throughout the winter I was getting freuqent drops from the connection, so BT replaced the exterior drop line and fixed it (must of been the water getting in the 30+ year old line). January came and i started getting the same problems, this time they replaced the router and sort of sorted out the problem. Last week i complained because the disconnections started happening and i noticed my speed was dropped from 40 down to under 30. Bt claim there is no problems with the line from their tests. Yesterday i got another replcement home hub and still the speed hasn't risen. The dsl checker says i can get just under 50 mbps down, but my line only could handle 40.
When i got it installed in June this is what my speeds were http://gyazo.com/ae933548d392adf91cd0e906074d0edf
This is what my router says - http://gyazo.com/b48adbb11b4f686515faaf6a0a54b4b1
I've got to the point now where i'm going to give up because they don't care about fixing it. I'm waiting for a call next week to check up on the line and we can go from there.
    I'am using the Hub 5.

Can you run this checker and post back a screen shot of the results
    http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/adslchecker.welcome
and use this speed tester then carry out the further diagnostics and post back a screen shot of all the results including your IP profile for up and down. This test must be done with a wired connection.

as you have a Homehub 5 can you also post the stats from 1-12 by logging onto the homehub management pages then troubleshooting > helpdesk. http://bthomehub.home/

  • Wired connections from different rooms to Infinity...

Any help much appreciated with this as I got a predictably vague answer from BT over the phone -
Currently I use BT Broadband (can only get a 2mb connection due to distance from exchange) and my set-up is like this -
In the living room is my netgear router/modem along with a PS3, Xbox360 and Wii connected to it through 3 of the 4 ethernet ports on the router.
The 4th ethernet port is connected to a 'home plug' which sends the broadband through my electrical wiring to another 'home plug' upstairs which is connected to my PC.
Is it possible to do this with BT Infinity?
I know a lot of folks slate BT but my 'wired' connection has always been reliable and never goes down. I'm adamant that I want the stability of a 'wired' connection and don't trust wireless. Am I being old-fashioned or anyone else prefer the 'wired' way?
    Thanks in advance

I'd wait and see how your homeplugs perform before changing.... but if you do get a performance problem that's the first thing I would change based on other peoples experience.
And as Michael mentioned there has been quite a few people recently deciding to ditch the HomeHub3.

  • Internet Connection drops when incoming telephone ...

On 14th December 2011 during a period of very high winds and heavy rain an incoming telephone call caused the internet connection to drop and it eventually restored itself after about 2 hours. When I answer a call the internet connection drops after about 30 seconds and then reconnects after about a further 40 seconds. All incoming local calls cause the internet connection to drop. As far as I can tell incoming calls from other exchanges seem to be OK. Incoming calls from mobile phones sometimes cause the internet connection to drop. The line is unaffected by outgoing telephone calls. I have a BT HomeHub 2B plugged into an upstairs telephone socket and connected by ethernet to my PC. I have another telephone socket downstairs, each socket is fitted with a filter. I have have tried every combination of my two standard telephones and 4 filters in each socket and every local call causes the internet connection to drop and reconnect. I think it very unlikely that both phones and 4 filters have become faulty at the exactly the same time. I have connected the Home Hub and telephone with a filter to the test socket and asked a friend on the local exchange to call me and the internet connection dropped and reconnected as before. Since moving to this house 2 years ago I have had four previous interruptions to the broadband service all of which were caused by problems probably at the exchange. The last one took 8 days to correct after countless calls to the "Help Line". Their fall back position is always to assume that there is no problem with the BT line. So I am not even going to try to explain this over the telephone. This is the information on the BT Home Hub Event Log, it is typical for every occurrence of the problem. Dec 26 11:42:42 2011 ERR 2011-12-26T11:42:42Z cwmp: mt_cwmp: session error: Could not resolve host Dec 26 11:43:19 2011 (1035438.010000) RTNL: Received ERROR reply 'No such process' for message type 0x19 Is this a problem with the Homehub, the line, or at the exchange?

not sure I read your post correctly but are you saying if someone from another exchange phones then the broadband is ok and it only drops if someone from your own exchange phones?
if the possible sollution from chris6273 does not work, and you have already tried the test socket then I would contact the mods for assistance  http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951
the mods can take up to 3 days to reply

  • Can i set up a wired connection in another room?

    Hello BT community forums
I am a BT customer using the BT homehub 2.0 connected to my main phone line.
My question is: Downstairs I have the typical setup with my computer for wireless to my sons bedroom in the newly built extentions but the wireless connection is poor and disconnects often. This extentions bedroom has a phoneline in aswell with a fully working BT homephone, would I be able to set up a wired connection to the computer in the extention bedroom using this phoneline so we can have a wired connection to my sons computer?
If any other information is required please ask and I will provide.
Thank you for any help and advice provided.

No you can't use the phone line to provide an Ethernet connection to your Son's computer. Also, you can't have two Routers on the same Telephone Line. Some options are:
Move the BT HH to a position nearer your Son's room
Use a pair of Powerline Ethernet adapters to provide Ethernet connection ove your Mains wiring
Run an Ethernet Cat5 cable from the Router to your Son's room
Set up a Wireless "repeater" using WDS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_Distribution_System
Is there a good reason why the Wireless performance is so poor? How far is the computer from the Router and how many/ what construction are the intervening walls?
Is it possible that there is another Wireless signal interfering with yours? Have you tried changing Wireless Channel?

  • Apple Airprint to HP Officejet 6500A Plus via Wired Connection to Router

    Hi There,
So I've done a considerable amount of research into this across the internet and this forum and I'm still struggling to find a satisfactory solution.
I have an HP Officejet 6500A Plus connected by ethernet into my BT Homehub 3.
It is my understanding that even though this is a wired connection, as long as my iOS device (iPad 2 or iPhone 5) is connected to the same router, I should still be able to see this Officejet over through the airprint facility.
Unfortunately this is not the case. I only get the "No Airprint Printers Found" message on both devices. The only way I have managed to get my Mac Pro (Mavericks) to connect was to mannualy add using the IP address for the printer.
Can anyone give any guidance as to what I might be doing wrong? The printer is definitely connecting to the internet as I can print from my iOS devices using HP ePrint app for iOS.
Some might say well what is the problem, just use the HP app but this is not point. I believe if something has been implemented to make things easier then use it. I chose this printer specifically for this functionality so it's a little frustrating to find it so difficult to achieve the desired results.
Hope it's something straightforward and someone can help.
    Thanks,
    Steve

Further to this request, and reading many more similar issues, I think I may resolved this.
I am not 100% sure but I have read some threads suggesting there are issues around BT's Homehub 3 and bonjour so this may be an issue.
I have tried the following over the past couple of days...
    1) Completely reset my router (wiped all settings and started again) - No luck!
    2) Tried changing from WPA2 to just WPA security - No luck!
    3) Tried forwarding the bonjour ports to the printer - No luck!
    4) Switched off router, printer and all iOS devices then powered back router, printer and then iOS devices - Printer appears on iOS devices but when print was selected, iOS device repeatedly returned Printer Not Connected error.
Finally, what seems to have done it (at least for now) was...
    1) Unplugged ethernet from the Officejet and set it up as Wireless connection.
    2) Powered down router, printer and all iOS devices then powered back up in the order stated earlier.
    3) So far I have tried printing an email and a web page from my iOS devices and both have been sucessful.
Incidentally I had been struggling also to airplay from my iPhone and iPad until I started messing around with settings above and now this issue also seems to be resolved.
Due to variety of combinations (different printers, routers etc) people will have, it seems to be quite difficult to find a solution which addresses an individual problem however I hope some of my experimenting and findings might help others in some way.

  • Windows 8.1 wired connection problem

My computer with Windows 8.1 started to lose internet connection very often (about every minute). I tried to update drivers for network card, even bought new network card with no result. Also, tried to connect directly without router and connection
still drops. Network troubleshooting did not find any problems, no errors are displaying. What may be causing the problem?

    Hi,
Wired connection, have you checked the cable? Please make sure that it's functioning fine.
You can also test the connection with another PC to find out whether the culprit is your own PC or the ISP.
