Homehub 3 failing to work wirelessly with 1 PC

Hi
We installed a BT Homehub 3 last week having previously used Twang Zyxel routeron a separate land line paid for by my work. We have 2 issues with it.
1. One laptop will not connect wirelessly (having been fine with the Twang router and still capable of using it). It can "see" the BT Homehub but will not accept the wireless key and so describes it as local access with no internet connection (it's fine with the ethernet cable but that is no use to us). Our other 3 laptops are all fine. The only difference I can see is that they are Windows 7 and the problematic one is Vista (but I have followed BT's Vista connection advice). I've tried lots of ways to try to connect but really need some very simple advice to try and get a connection. (Please give clear instructions I'm not a techy!)
2. The speed rate we were given for this particular landline was approx 15mbps which was higher than the work landline we use the Twang on (which BToffer at 8mbps). So far the most we have achieved - even by unscrewing the main box and plugging directly into the main cable to avoid our extension wiring interference - is 3.1mbps. The Twang line is generally between 6-7. Although we've only had the BT Homehub 6 days I think it's doubtful that it's suddenly going to change dramatically during the next few days - ie the 10 day period BT say to allow for maximum broadband speed. What should we do?
Thanks for your suggestions. I've spent the last 5 days trying to sort this out and the frustration is getting to me.....!

in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run btspeedtester (MAC users may have problems) http://speedtester.bt.com or http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9354/c/346,4740,5520 and post the results .
are you connected directly to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
did you try changing the wireless in the hub from b/g/n to just b/g as suggested in your other post?
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • Infinity won't work wirelessly with Ubuntu OS

I'm running Ubuntu Netbook Edition and upgraded my BT broadband to Infinity on 28.12.11, using the same HomeHub3 that worked perfectly well with the old Total service.
It doesn't work, wirelessly. I can get an apparently strong connection, but its agonisingly slow. At the same time, an ethernet connection works well, When I switch from one to the other and test the speed, I can watch the bandwidth fall away (i.e.: it isn't immediately disconnected.)
Nobody at BT can or will help, telling me that Ubuntu is 'unsupported' (i.e.: it's my problem). I reported this problem to BT - ref: xxxxxx-xxxxxx - via its complaints form on 28.12.11, but have had no response.
I've spent much time this past week on internet help forums. It transpies that BT has known about this issue with Ununtu for six months, but has apparently done nothing about it and cannot suggest a solution.
Suggested workarounds from other Ubuntu users involve manually reconfiguring one's connection, but my netbook won't allow me to apply the changed settings, or to change the router settings from N to G tech., but that only worked temporarily for me and, besides, my netbook is only a couple of year old.
When I was sold Infinity, nobody mentioned that it doesn't work with Ubuntu. Frankly, I feel it was mis-sold as I intended to increase the bandwidth of my Total account and was persuaded to take Infinity on the grounds that it's a superior service for the same price. Not from where I sit, it isn't.
The only solution I can see is to get BT to switch me back to their Total service, which suited me fine. I'm going to get their engineer to come back and uninstall Infinity. I will also complain to Offcom, as this situation could easily have been avoided had the BT sales person told me that Infinity won't work wirelessly with Ubuntu.

Firstly your negotiating skills with BT are far better than mine....
"....Total account and was persuaded to take Infinity on the grounds that it's a superior service for the same price"
I was on BT Total BB and had to pay an extra £2 pm for Infinity and then an extra £4.75pm uplift of the calls package to give me the same anytime calls I had previously.... And had to re-start another 18month contract!!! Ohhh well.
Right onto the problem... Webby's suggestion of making sure your on a clear or least used wireless channel is good advice.
Here is the link to the free software http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/
    Have a look at a demo,- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pf2kZCfYTxI
To be honest I would move your HH3 from the Automatic setting to a fixed wireless channel as they seem to work better like that.
If your Operating System won't work with Inssider I would then just try a different channel starting at 1 and work up... seeing how things go.
Regarding setting your HH3 to wireless g, that is a very backward step as the most you'll get over that would be around 20Mbps depending on your distance from hub etc.
Couple of pics comparing my speed test over wireless g and n in THIS POST.
Another thing I would try is a wireless n USB adapter... just in case your m/c is only g
Links of how to identify what yours is and pictures of the difference in the "Network Sharing Centre".. 54Mbps being g and anything above is wireless n....
Wireless n gives the best speed assuming your Infinity download IP is more than 20Mbps. Also wireless n signal is more robust penetrating walls etc.
There are links to the type of wireless n adapters I use... Picture of one HERE, (Don't need the extender cable shown in that picture).
    wwwebber's post was very useful.-
"I use Ubuntu on my laptop with BT Infinity & HH3 with no problems at all. BT is not at fault here - they do not support Ubuntu."
Confirming Infinity and Unbunto do work...
You say ".....but my netbook won't allow me to apply the changed settings, or to change the router settings .... but that only worked temporarily for me......"
As changing settings worked temporarily you must have been able to log into your HH3.
If you really can't log in can you borrow a friends netbook running windows to get logged in perhaps?
Log in,- http://bthomehub.home/html/home/home.html go to Advanced settings, wireless. and change Channel settings from Automatic to a channel number then click on Apply.
I would place your laptop near to the HH3 and move the HH3 wireless channel to a clear channel or start at channel 1.
Try to get a good wireless n speed..... example of mine 37Mbps  over http://www.speedtest.net/
Then when you have a reasonable speed move your laptop away... you will notice a drop over distance that's normal.
I am 20' away from my HH3 and get 37Mbps through a plasterboard wall.
Regarding other routers people have used http://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity/List-of-Routers-to-replace-Home-Hub-3/td-p/298203
And see Ady's msg #21 and #25 in THIS THREAD.

  • I need a printer that will work wirelessly with Lion os

Please help me find an all in one printer that will work wirelessly with the new Lion OS.
    I'm on my third printer...
    Thanks

Exactly what did you do when trying to set up the printers? Did you follow the mfr's instructions?
I also have an Epson (Artisan 810) and it works flawlessly - both wired and wirelessly. If I remember correctly, the instructions specifically said in order to set it up wirelessly, I had to connect it via USB first and then unplugged the cable at a specific point (following the instructions). And, the instructions included having to copy the printer's  MAC address (a series of numbers and letters) from the printer display panel and enter it at my router's (Netgear) online setup site.

  • Can't get Canon MP620 to work wirelessly with MacBook Pro or AirPort

I bought a Canon MP620 printer at the Apple Store. I specifically asked if it would work wirelessly with my MacBook Pro or AirPort Express since I read comments to the contrary on here. I was assured it would work without a problem and I wouldn't need to upgrade to AirPort Extreme. My Mac is not able to find my printer. Does anyone have any suggestions? I did all of the troubleshooting and nothing works. I have another printer plugged into my AirPort Express so I can't plug this one in (was told at Apple Store that I wouldn't need to).

    Hi magcat72,
As BDAqua has mentioned already, you need to configure the wireless network settings first. This is done by connecting the Mac directly to the printer via USB. But before you do this, stick the MP620 CD into your Mac and install the drivers and the Canon IJ Network utility. Once these have been added to the Mac, you can then connect the 620 to the Mac. This should automatically add the printer to your printer list (in Print & Fax). If it doesn't, then you can add the printer manually, by clicking the + and using the Default view.
Once you have the printer queue installed, you can open the queue and click the Utility icon. This will display the MP620 connected via USB. Select it and then click the Network button. This will now guide you through connecting the MP620 to your wireless network.
Once you have completed the network configuration for the printer, you can turn it off and unplug the USB cable from your Mac. You can then move the printer to where you want it to reside and turn it back on again.
Now you need to add the network printer queue, as the previous queue was for direct USB. In fact, to save you selecting the wrong printer, delete the current MP620 from your list by using the - (minus) button.
To add the network printer queue, select to Add a printer and then select More Printers. In the top menu you should see Canon IJ Network. Select this and after a short while the printer should appear with its MAC address (a series of numbers and letters separated by colons) in the lower pane. Select the 620 and click Add.
Now you should be ready to print. If any of the above doesn't work for you then please reply.

  • How do I get Mavericks to work wirelessly with HP printer?

My MacbookAir refuses to work wirelessly post Mavericks install only with my HP Photosmart 7515 printer. Everything else, HP laptop and 1st gen Ipad, work flawlessly, so it is not the printer nor the router which is new and powerful on Apple's advice. Reception is full bars, speed is fine, but message says printer is 'not connected'. Spent HOURS with senior Apple advice people and nothing works!  It is so frustrating to not be able to work where I want and be tied to a printer in a place other than my office, any clever help out there? Should I get rid of Mavericks, and what would I lose?  I am ready to give up on this mac. Thanks for any advice or experience out there.

  • Can't get my hp printer to work wireless with my iMac

I am so computer illiterate, it's not funny. I am really getting frustrated with trying to get my new HP Photosart all-in-one c7820 to work with my new iMac. This computer is awesome, but I am so used to pc's because that's all I have ever known. I connected the new iMac sucessfully to our wireless modem in the house, and connected the printer to the same wireless connection. They both say they are connected and working, but nothing will print. I DID get a message "The application HP Printer Utility quit unexpetedly" duting the installation but it didn't seem to matter, it said it was "installed successfully" When I try to print something, it seems like it's going to work, but it says stopped, and I can't get it to work.
I think I am missing something with the wireless info or something.
Anyone have any ideas? (In lamemans terms please)
    thanks,
    U

    Hi Ursula M-
Actually I find that opening statement very funny! Greetings and welcome to the Apple boards
Have you tried going to the HP website and downloading and installing the latest driver for that printer?

  • Lotus Notes Mail remotely gives me following "A problem has occurred which may have caused the current operation to fail. A problem has occurred which may have caused the current operation to fail." Works OK with IE9 64bit, IE9 32bit and Google Chrome.

I get Lotus Notes Mail from the Acton site link to the lotus domino server.
Works fine in IE9 (32 & 64bit) and with Google Chrone. Google 7 gives the following error:-
"A problem has occurred which may have caused the current operation to fail."

Actually, this isn't a cache problem, it's an issue with iNotes and Firefox 4. I found the answer in comments at a similar question. See:
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/798271#answer-153202
I downloaded the Remote XUL Manager add-on for Firefox (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/remote-xul-manager/), restarted FF, went to Tools and scrolled down and clicked on "Remote XUL Manager." I clicked "Add" and pasted the URL for the link where I log-in to Lotus Notes into the dialogue box, and ta-dah! Back to email. Took me longer to type this than fix the problem.

  • Scanner does not work wirelessly with iMac

I have an imac and an HP 8620 (not a cheap printer!!!)  trying to scan wirelessly running latest 10.10.2 and all i get is "The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.hp.scanhandler.error error 2.2)"  I have uninstalled reinstalled, run the cd and still NOTHING.HP are as much help as a chocolate teapot, just telling me to go round in circles doing what I've already done!!!! AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH

Hey ! Thank you for posting on the HP Forums! I would be more then happy to provide some help regarding scanning with your Officejet 8620 to the Mac computer.  I find that a great way to scan on the Mac computer is to use the application called Image Capture.  Image Capture is a an application built into the Mac operating system that allows you to communicate with the scanner and other image capturing devices. To open Image Capture click on the Spot Light (Magnifying glass icon at the top right corner of the Mac).  Type Image Capture into the little search bar and it should show up as the first selection.  Open Image Capture and select your printer on the left side of the window.  The printer may be listed under "Shared".  Once the printer is selected you should have the option to scan.  There is also another button to "Show Details".  That gives you more options for setting up the scan.  You should have the option to name the scan, select a folder, change file type, etc. Here is an Example of Image Capture:  Please post back and let me know if that worked for you

  • M1212nf printer wont work wireless with Windows 10

I installed Windows 10 two days ago to my computer as well as two others in the house. We were all using a wireless network.I now have to use the printer through the USB port on my computer only. The wireless feature does not function. When I try to update I am only able to find drivers for a 1210 series system. The driver is rejected and I am told it is not compatible with my printer. How do I restore the connection without going back to Windows 8.1? Is there a separate update for this product based on Windows 10?How do i solve this problem?

Hi , I read your post and see that you need the drivers for Windows 10. I would be happy to help you.
This model has a USB and Ethernet connection only. I have provided a link to the HP LaserJet Full Feature Software and Driver. The Windows 8.1 and the Windows 10 are the same drivers and can be used for both operating systems. Please note : If your device had full support (not just basic print or scan) in Windows 7 or 8 then your device is supported, but may not immediately show up on hp.com for Windows 10: Please download the Windows 8.1 drivers and use those (they have been tested and worked with Windows10) If you appreciate my efforts, please click the 'Thumbs up' button below. Thank You.

  • Can't get my Satellite Pro to work wirelessly with internet

I have a Satellite Pro L20- which has wireless network adaptor. Have bought a BT Voyager 2110 Wireless ADSL router. Have plugged router to my Broadband. Have used Toshiba config to find router on my laptop - looks like I then have to drag the laptop icon onto the router but it says I can't do that as the router is being used by another owner?
Should I be doing anyting else - the Inter adaptor card in my laptop says enabled - the router is plugged in - but nothing works.
Please help but am pretty useless on these things so keep it clear
    Thanks

    Hi
Please be sure that your WLAN card is activated properly. You can check it using FN+F8 key combination or using preinstalled ConfigFree tool. If you are sure that card is activated properly use also Search for wireless devices option (ConfigFree).
Every available WLAN network will be shown there.
I also recommend you to use standard Windows settings for WLAN. Go into WLAN network properties and activate option Use windows to configure my .. After that click on View Wireless networks. All available WLAN will be listed and you can try to connect it. If the WLAN is encrypted be sure that you use the right password.
    Bye

  • NativeProcess fails to work correctly with UAC

    Hi there,
I'm using AIR 2's NativeProcess API to run a downloaded update for my application.
On computers without UAC enabled, this works fine, when calling NativeProcess.start(), it starts the installer and runs absolutely fine.
On computers with UAC enabled however, after calling NativeProcess.start(), it stops, and does not run any of the lines of code after it within the function. (In my case, it creates a log message and then calls NativeApplication.nativeApplication.exit(), but I also tested with a trace statement before and after; the trace after calling NativeProcess.start never displayed.)
I am also elsewhere in the application starting javaw.exe to make use of the merapi bridge/amf messaging. Starting javaw works with UAC enabled. It seems this issue may be isolated to installation programs that come up with a UAC warning "This program is about to make changes to your computer" type message.
I also tried using File.openWithDefaultApplication to open the directory containing the installer, but this _also_ doesn't work on the machines with UAC enabled!
Is there any work-around for this problem as I can't use the applicationupdater (since it's targeted at .air only at the moment) and I can't execute the downloaded file nor navigate the user to the downloaded directory!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
