Homehub 3B on another ISP

Hi all id like to pick your brains on something, my partners old internet connection at her mums is still active as she is so used to the email address she has she can (and has several times) type it with her eyes closed. This ISP is of course freeserve (who where bought out several times and now live in the EE family) now with BT buying out EE will this mean that our old hub 3b will work on her line after the takeover is done or is there a custom firmware that can be downloaded to it.
Google has pointed me to a few long dead threads with the download links non functional but even then its mainly the hub 3a. Ive been looking at the hub 4r for her mum to use (she has to do e-learning for her job) with my partners laptop but if i can get the 3b to work so much the better (wont cost anything ). my current attempts have failed becasue the hub wont accept the user id which ends with @FS it says its not valid.
Any help would be greatly recived

Are you sure you that your your partners mum has an Internet connection? Just because her email address still works does not automatically mean she has broadband. Is she paying for broadband from EE or another ISP.
What is wrong with her present router? She should be able just to connect through that. Why are you thinking of changing it and why go for a HH4r

  • Adding another ISP

Hi, I am looking to add another 5 meg inbound (2 outbound) connection to our existing network via a second ISP. Our current link comes in through a 4006 router (in building A) and then shoots over to our PIX (in building B). I would like to bring the second ISP into building B but i was looking for suggestions on what hardware i would need for the project. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

sorry, i forgot to mention that. I have a 515E PIX but it has a restricted license so I can't add another interface. (I have 3 (in, out, & DMZ) right now. I was looking for something a little bit cheaper than upgrading the license and buying another card for it... any ideas?

  • Using Home Hub 3 on another ISP

    Hi
Does anyone know if the home hub 3 can be used with another ethernet connection
Specifically ,I am away on business next week and the hotel has ethernet ports [DHCP]
Can I plug the HH3 into here ?
I know I can use a buffalo cable router in this scenario but will the HH3 work ?

    Of course it is
I guess even adding bits to the HH3 is possible
(now where did that post go....?)

  • Using an existing email from another isp on bt bro...

I want to keep my old email address (the domain name is mine for another few years) rather than use the impersonal bt one I've been given, but I can't work out how to do it.

  • I'm looking for another ISP

Last time I looked for an ISP the list for Mac was limited. Hope it is larger and will work with OS 9.2. (I am hoping the 9.2 works, I'm too old to invest money and time in newer apps)
I have Earthlink and I am getting uncomfortable that I have been "cracked" through them but not knowledgeable enough to know. I have asked them why their hotlink to MyAccount doesn't work for me.
iBook, 2 USB, Firewire, G3   Mac OS 9.2.x

Thanks for getting back to me. We're on the west coast and I don't recognize "Charter" as local.
Also we stick with dialup and avoid the cables etc. because they have a habit of holding you hostage in contracts and change the conditions as they please (cost-wise and services). Until I see proof that their sense of entitlement and arrogance is changed, I have to stick to the slow and dull. (Also that's why we use Boost cell phones, at least we can stop when they get too outrageous w/o a $200 cancellation PENALTY)
Our gov't is selling us out to the cables etc. when the HD for TV change-over happens. I may have to go to my cave and just read books.
I am waiting for the ftc to declare we must pay for cable (w/o price controls) as our local gov't says we must pay for trash pick up. (okay that is necessary but cable, etc.?)
Again thanks but I guess I will probably have to keep my head in the sand)

  • Moving from one ISP with Fibre to another

Can anyone tell me is it possible to move to another ISP if they do Fibre when I already have Fibre with BT Thanks Michael

    Thanks,
For a start mate do not go to Sky or even think of Virgin or even worse Be, Talk Talk, orange etc.. they all restrict P2P much more than BT Infinity does, it's a fact every ISP restricts P2P, some totally, some different ways than others, some use shaping of speeds, for example you may connect with Sky at 20000Kbps downstream, say a transfer rate of 2.0MB/s, you start downloading then your speeds end up going write down to about 2 - 3000Kbps downstream, transfer rate of 200KB/s or even worse sometimes to a rate of 1.5KB/s, without you even realising its changed. check out there forum pages you will see. If you think moving to another ISP for better speeds on P2P think again. Someone else will probably confirm the same as me. BT does ristrict but only from 4.00p.m. to 12.00a.m., weekdays, weekends totally free all uk times, these times you should be good to go, remember BT own the network they can do pratrically whatever they want within reason, so if you cannot do it with BT forget about other providers!. Please do not switch providers bcause of P2P transfer rates, you will be alot worse off. Trust!. Just a quick question to you, how much are the rates going up by, I do not know myself? I am on Option 2, Unlimited as well but do not know what the rise is?. I hope not too much.
Just a point when do you feel you are being restricted with P2P, what times and when?.

  • I have an Iphone 4 and starting two days ago when using either pandora Itunes after two songs i no longer hear sound. This happens whether using the headphones or not. I have to completely turn app off and then back on to get another two songs.

I am not sure why or what happened but for the last two days every time I attempt to listen to any music I am limited to only two songs. I have tried multiple things but nothing is working. The only way for me to get more songs to play is to completely turn the application off and then restart it again. I have to do this repeatedly after only two songs. You can see that the music is still playing but I am getting no sound. Can anyone help with this? Has anyone ever experienced this?

if your minimum term contract has expired then the hub is yours and any warranty has expired.  your monthly payments then revert back to standard terms and any discount you had at outset has ceased.  you then go on a rolling monthly contract and the benefit of keeping that is you can move to another ISP with 30 days notice or 14 days if using a MAC code with no cancellation penalty
in the vast majority of cases if you renogotiate a new contract you can get a better cheaper deal that you are currently paying but you then lose the ability to move at short notice without penalty
you can always phone the options team who are uk based and see what is on offer, including negotiating a new hub, and if you don't like the offer then don't accept  0800800030

  • Personal Hotspot goes away, takes forever to get it back, then adds another homegroup each time

I am out of town and trying to use my personal hotspot.  Ever since I updated to OS 5 I have had this problem.  When I disconnect in windows 7, I can not reconnect withouth messing with settings.  When it does connect it creates a new homegroup so my iPhone is now up to group 10!  Yikes I need help!!  I am working remotely this week plus I am in school full time I dont have time for this?  Any suggestions out there???  Went to the ATT store they had me delete the connection and start over, worked fine for a bit, then shut down my computer and I am finally back on after 30 minutes of trying.

    Same problem. iPhone 4s w/OS 5.
I activate my iPhone's hotspot (with password), connect via wifi, work (or play) a bit, get distracted for a few minutes, come back and there's no internet, check wifi connection, not connected, signal from the iPhone is not present, refresh to look for wifi signals, other signals are there but not iPhone's. The hotspot simply goes away.
I ditched another isp with spotty service with the intention of connecting my pc and iPad to the internet via my iPhone. Did I make a big mistake thinking my iPhone hotspot would be more stable?

  • Each time I download an HD movie my ISP shows a transaction of almost double the movie advertised size, help/

I have downloaded 2 movies from ITunes usiing BigPond, each time my activity record from the ISP shows almost double the movie's advertised size - any ideas?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Most ISP's will give an unlimited download account nowadays, subject to reasonable use, others may have caps after which you need to pay for additional data. Check with your ISP as to what your data plan includes, FWIW, I would think any data cap below 50 GB per month is unreasonable these days, unless you are on a satellite connection or something, if you are on such a plan, I'd consider negotiating a better deal or moving to another ISP.

  • Load balancing Internet and Site to Site VPN's across Multiple ISP.

    Hi Everyone,
We  are currently connected to a single ISP with different Internet related  services like mail, web, dns and IPSEC site to site VPN's running. We  would be adding another ISP and do load balancing across these multiple  links. We are using Cisco ASA firewall.
Can anyone suggest a load  balancer which can not only provide load balancing of the links but  failover as well for mail, web and IPSEC Site to Site VPN's. I came  across Peplink that can achieve this but I guess I will have to  decommision our ASA in order to install Peplink.
Check attached diagram, this will be our proposed design.
    Regards

    Hi Sundeep,
The simplest solution would be to put an IOS router (or two with HSRP) between the ASA and the ISPs and do policy-based routing for your flows between the 2 ISPs. Otherwise, any load balancer should work fine with the ASA. If failover of the load balancer is a requirement, you'll need to look at product specific documentation for whichever solution you choose.

  • How can I create 802.1x profile if my ISP doesn't provide one to me?

I couldn't connect to my ISP
ISP uses authentication with MD5. I tried to configure it from Network - Ethernet - Advanced - 802.1x but itturned out, that I couldn't add new profile there.
My ISP says, that they doesn't provide any .mobileconfig files.
How can I make my network work? Where and how to make .mobileconfig file?
File, that I made in iPhone Configuration Utility doesn't work for me, because system says it couldn't be added as a profile.

If your ISP is using MD5, I suggest you find another ISP.
The security of MD5 hash algorithm has been declared to be severely compromised for some time now. I didn't think anyone was still using it.

  • Move interface ACL's, NAT's from one interface to another

    Hi
    I have a Cisco ASA 5515-x with IOS 9.1.
My problem is i have 6 interfaces (1 failover, 2 dmz, 1 outside, 1 inside and 1 spare) and I need to create new:
DMZ - for new LAN (subnet).
Outside interface - for new Site to Site VPN peer, there is a requirement to use a different public address rather than the one on the existing outside interface.
There is no budget to purchase additional interfaces at the present.
The solution i have come up with is to:
Divide the spare interface into 3 sub-interfaces for the 2 existing DMZ's and the new DMZ.
Use either of the spare 2 interfaces (from existing DMZ's) as the new outside interface.
Still leaving me with a spare interface for future expansion.
    I have 2 questions:
Firstly, is this an acceptable solution and if not what would be a better solution?
Secondly, in my proposed solution, i will have to move all the ACLs and NATs from the existing DMZ's to the new sub-interfaces DMZ's (also one of the DMZ's is accessed by a site to site VPN on the existing outside interface). Is there an easy way to move this rules/NAT/etc or does it require going through the entire configuration renaming all the changes?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Chris

    Hi,
Well I dont know why the requirement is to use a different public IP address for the L2L VPN connection then this seems to be the only way (use another interface). I assume then that you have another ISP link there or from same ISP but with IP from different public subnet than your current "outside"?
If you decide to use 2 WAN links on the ASA then for the L2L VPN purpose WAN link you need to configure static "route" for the remote VPN gateway and possibly also for the remote networks behind the L2L VPN unless the ASA installs those routes automatically based on the "crypto map" configurations.
With regards to moving the configurations around it seems to me that there is no easy/automatic way to migrate these configurations.
What you can essentially do atleast is
Collect all the configurations that reference the interfaces "nameif" value. These usually contains commands like "nat" , "access-group" , "route" and naturally some others
Remove the existing interfaces which means that all configurations that reference the "nameif" are removed. Notice that the ACL is not removed, only the "access-group" command
You then reconfigure the same interface somewhere else. In your case it seems to be an subinterface in some cases.
After the new interface is configured you should be able to drop the configurations that you collected earlier. What I would keep in mind in this situation is that you should keep track of the original order of the "nat" configurations (if using Manual NAT) and make sure you enter the "nat" commands in the same places they were. Depending on your current NAT configuration this might either be really simple (Mostly Auto NAT configurations) or something required a bit more planning (Manual NAT)
The above should be the main things to do on the ASA to migrate the configurations.
Naturally this is just a general description without taking into account everything that you might have in your environment.

  • Broadband ISP's for Tiger

After long and arduous years with MS and PC’s I have bought an iBook. I have never used a Mac before and I love it all ready. However I used AOL broadband on my Pc and I would like to know if I could use broadband on my iBook. I know that I can’t use AOL however can anyone suggest another ISP that can connect me to the Internet using Broadband. Thank you and kind regards.
Ivor Harrison (New iBook and Mac user and loving it)

Hi Ivor and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Congratulations on your switch and your choice of the iBook. Good choice!
Your profile shows 'Durham'. As there are many Durhams throughout the world it's difficult to give you specific advice re ISPs. If you're from Durham UK then there are many ISPs available besides AOL. I don't know whether or not they're compatible with Macs but personally I wouldn't give AOL house room, whether on a PC or Mac.
I use Pipex, who are a well respected ISP having started life as a business supplier and later saw the potential in the home market. (Who wouldn't!). I have had very little down time over the 2+ years that I've been with them, they are absolutely Mac compatible and don't in any way dictate what sort of hardware you need to connect with them. I can't fault then except to say that they are probably not the cheapest. But you get webspace, 12 mailboxes, telephone support etc etc. More Here.
Post back if you need more help re hardware etc, and enjoy your iBook.

  • Firewall ISP Support

I have a ASA 5540,and i have one ISP connect to it with outside interface and now i want to connect a 2 mbps another isp line to them is it poosible to connect with the use of extended 4ge ssm card.can a firewall support to ISP at a time.

I would suggest you go for the MULTIPLE_CONTEXT mode on your Cisco ASA, As you mentioned that you are using a 5540 ASA and also running failover, i assume that you either have the Security plus license or the vpn Plus license installed on it.
To the best of my knowledge both these licenses support MULTIPLE_CONTEXT modes.
You can either go for a SSM card for the additional ports or if you want to do some cost saving you can use subinterfaces and VLANS on the ASA, with each subinterfaces lying in a different CONTEXTS serving a completely different set of users or applications.
If you really want to get to the pinaccle of the configuration, you can go ahead and try ACTIVE/ACTIVE failover for the 2 contexts.
for multiple-context condig you can refer :
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/vpndevc/ps2030/products_configuration_example09186a00808d2b63.shtml
and for Active/Active failover you can refer:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6120/products_configuration_example09186a0080834058.shtml
Active/active failover has several limitations, read the document carefully before you proceed.

  • New ISP and Router/Modem

Transferring over to a new ISP - or trying anyway...
BM has been setup with dynamic/static NAT on current ISP, with VPN,
GrpWise Webmail and proxy services, with simple DSL modem for 3 years and
    all works well.
New ISP has provided bridged net connection with netcomm nb5plus hardware
which must NAT to route traffic - netcomm told me this.... now im guessing
i cannot get internal services to work over this type of modem? Ive asked
the ISP to send me a standard router (which doesnt require NAT) but they
are confused - more than me actually. Seems as though they have provided
a modem that is used for home accounts, for external web access thru a NAT
    device.
Any thoughts would be great :))
    Thanks, Theo :)

Cat - thx for the response
the ISP connection is NOT ppoe
cisco have recommended the 870 router to me - what do u think - will this
    support BM VPN?
btw - we do not have to move th this ISP - can always cancel it and tell
them that they cannot provide what we require
    Thanks
