HomeHub 5 Wifi Is Horrible

Hi folks,
I'm a new on BT Infinity 2 Unlimited having moved from a Sky 2.5meg connection.
Overall - I am pretty chuffed. I have a consistent 75 meg down and 15-20 meg up with <20 latency. A major improvement.
However I am having a real struggle getting to grips with the HomeHub 5. I have hard wired everything I can with Cat 6 and some gigabit switches and the speed is great - but unfortunately iPhones and tablets need the wifi...
My problem is that the router refuses to connect the iPhones at anything greater than 20Mbps download on Ookla Speedtest. The router shows them as connected at 150Mbps (N Standard although both devices are capable of AC?). I've tried splitting the 2.4 and 5 Ghz networks but to no avail. I have tried every available channel blindly (no wifi dongle to plug into PC for channel scanning) but I have never had any improvement in the speeds via wifi on any channel.
Also - the wifi will frequently freeze but show as connected. When this happens I cannot access the internet or the router wirelessly (a few times I have successfully got through to the page but it takes minutes and subsequent page navigation is just as slow).
The firmware is as shipped (4.7.5.1.83.8.173.1.4) and has no updated itself so far. I am under the impression I cannot force an update on the Home Hub.
I have tried testing the speed at various ranges from the router - from right next to it to 2 rooms away - and there isn't any change.
Overall I am over the moon with the fibre connection - but this hub is proving to be terribly limited... I am ready to go shopping for a new router but thought I'd leave a help request here first whilst technical support 'reset my line' over the weekend....
Many thanks for reading and I look forward to someone with the golden bullet!
(Ps - I have turned off smart setup as others have reported this causes issues)

  • BT HomeHub wifi network dropping connection with my apple products

I have a BT Home Hub connected to the internet and use it to provide my home wi-fi network.  To this I have connected iMac, Time capsule (by having it join existing network), airport express, apple Tv and cannon wireless printer)
Time machine backyps to timecapsule via wifi.  However None of my devices seem to remain connected to the wifi for very long.  If I open airport utility it states time capsule and airport express no longer connected to the network and only offer the option of forgetting device even though green light remains on time capsule and airport express.  If I go into Home Hub settings via ip address on safari, it is showing that both are connected.
With regard to my apple TV that doesn't seem to be able to share the content on my iMac because of home sharing connectivity issues.
Finally my iMac seems unable to connect to my wifi printer over the network even thoough all seem to be connected to homeHub appropriately.
Can anyone help out with this?

This setup is the worst possible.
You will always have issues with the TC .. it will be slow and unreliable because that is the nature of double hop wireless.
You MUST plug the TC into the HH by ethernet or using something like EOP adapters so the TC can work properly in bridge mode and create a wireless network.

  • No wifi and horrible battery life after iOS 7 install on iPhone 4S!

After the iOS 7 install on my iPhone 4S, my battery life is markedly worse and my phone will not connect to my home wifi. Every other device, including my wife's iPhone 5 and two iPad 2's, still connect perfectly. Please help. I wish I could go back to 6.1.3.

I've had issues since the upgrade too-messages wouldn't load, phone locked up and would turn off at random times. Then I noticed my data usage going up a ton in one day and checked and it wasn't connecting to my home wifi. Called tech support and they went through all the troubleshooting they could find and nothing helped. Had to go upgrade. You might try to reset your network settings, but that didn't help with mine

  • Someone plz help me!!! Wifi is HORRIBLE

    Hi there,
    I have a WPA2 network at home.
I can successfully connect to it and use all web applications.
The problem is that this only lasts a while. If I leave my iPod touch 4G for a while and try to use an app like 'Weather', it just sits there 'Updating...' indefinitely. Mail does the same with loading new mail. Safari just sits with a blanks screen and the spinning loader keeps going.
No internet apps connect, even though the wifi signal strength is at full at the top of the screen.
To get myself back online, I have to go into Settings and turn the wifi off and on again, then it works for a while again, but then stops seemingly spontaneously a bit later.
I don't have any wifi problems like this with my brothers touch
    Has anyone else experienced this?

Are you hiding your network name (SSID)? Which version iOS are you running? And your brother?
What make/model is your router? Have you ever rebooted it?
Lots of questions but you haven't really given us any real information to work with - just symptoms.

  • Why is my iPhone 5 wifi so slow?

I have an iPhone 5 through AT&T, and so does my dad and brother. My mom has an iPhone 4. I've recently noticed that ALL of the iPhone 5s get atrociously slow download speeds (<1Mbps download, >10Mbps upload, ~200ms ping). We pay for 50Mbps download and 25Mbps upload from Verizon Fios. My mom's iPhone 4, my dad's iPad, and all of our laptops have no internet troubles whatsoever.
I've read in a few places to try disabling the WPA2 encryption on my router, and I did so to no avail. I've used multiple routers, including an AirPort Extreme on both 5GHz and 2.4GHz, and all the routers gave similar download and upload rates. It's not even just our wifi, it's ALL wifi: work, schools, restaurants, it doesn't matter. The wifi has horrible download rates and ping.
I've been dealing with this problem for a few weeks now, and no one has seemed to figure out the problem. Might I be able to get a replacement iPhone from the Apple store and see if that fixes the problem? I'm pushing my data limit since I've been forced to use LTE over wifi. Thanks in advance!

Just did a speed test with my iPhone 5 connected to my "n" wireless network encrypted with WPA2 and had the following results.
    Ping - 31ms
    Download - 20.82 Mbps
    Upload - .97 Mbps
I suggest making an appointment at an Apple Store if there is one nearby for a hardware diagnostic to be run.

  • Getting network from my homehub to my itouch

I got my ipod touch christmas last year and i've never had any problems and a few days i go my wi-fi stopped working. So i used the password on the back of my homehub to try loging into my homehub wifi but everytime i do this comes up unable to join the netowrk help

Are you trying to use the password on the back of the hub as the wireless key for your iPod?
The password on the back is to allow you to administer the hub. If you cannot cannot remember the hub administration password then you will have to do a factory reset. This will set the password back to the one on the back of the hub.
Once you get to the home page of the hub click on A to Z then scroll down to wireless security. Click on this and you may be asked your password. The wireless key should be displayed in plain text.

  • HomeHub 5 - apparent firmware flaws which cause en...

I have had Infinity with a HomeHub 5 for four months. My set up is that I have the HomeHub 5 in the centre of my flat, and my computer and various mobile devices are connected by wifi - 2.4GHz for mobile devices, 5Ghz for the computer (2014 MacBook Pro). The system was rock solid for the first three months: I am only 200 metres from the
A month ago I bought a Western Digital MyCloud Network-attached storage (NAS) device. This was attached directly to the HomeHub 5 by a 20cm Cat 5 network cable, and the connection to the computer was therefore via the HomeHub wifi. I returned the MyCloud because the transfer speed was atrociously slow, and my wifi internet connection kept crashing (hub lights flashing orange, BT error messages popping up on all connected devices).
Presuming the problem was with the MyCloud, I then bought a Synology NAS and a 4GB Seagate NAS hard drive. This does support faster transfers (for the first few minutes that file transfers work), but the hub keeps crashing, 'taking down' the entire router - wifi, internet connection, the lot. Interestingly, this behaviour is repeatable: by simply trying to copy a large number of files from my computer to the NAS. Without fail, after a few minutes, the HomeHub crashes: all devices lose their connection, the hub lights start flashing orange. It takes 5-10 minutes for the hub to reestablish the internet connection, bring up the 2.4GHz network, then finally the 5GHz network. My conclusion is that the HomeHub 5 can not properly route traffic within the LAN (as opposed to simply dealing with internet traffic to/from local devices).
    My questions are:
    1. I regard this as clearly being a problem with the HomeHub 5: it seems unable to route large volumes of data without crashing. To what extent do you agree or disagree with my analysis?
    2. Is this a recognised problem with the HomeHub 5?
    3. How can I report this to BT technical support teams so that they can replicate the bugs themselves, and hopefully eradicate them in the HomeHub 6 (and hopefully patch the HomeHub 5 firmware)?
    4. Any general comments/suggestions/solutions on how I can actually get my Synology NAS working, without going to the expense of an entire new wifi router to replace what I have already paid for the HomeHub to be doing?
Thank you in advance for any advice and information that you can offer.
    Ross

Just noticed this thread. For what it's worth I have a 4 bay Synology NAS with 4 Samsung 2TB drives. This is connected to a HH5B (and was connected previously to a HH5A) without any problems at all. So I would say thay whilst there might be a problem with some HH5s it is not true to say that all HH5s suffer from this problem. Perhaps a particular batch had a duff chip or whatever.

  • Homehub 2, weak wireless signal.

I've got an unusual problem in that a few weeks ago (after 2 years of no problems) my wife's laptop started loosing wifi signal intermittently. She's normally about 20ft away from the homehub 2 modem (one wall in between), my PC was next to the homehub but connected by cable, so no problem there. Initially I thought it was a problem with the inbuilt wifi card in her laptop but not so sure now, tried a Netgear wifi adaptor on her laptop with the inbuilt card switched of and was still getting a drop in wifi signal (from 70 to 17%) intermittently. I've now positioned the homehub midway between the laptop and the PC, with the laptop back on it's own wifi card and the PC on the Netgear adaptor, signal strength is now 100% on both.
I suspect the the homehub wifi is getting weak, anyone else seen this problem.
PS. Also seen the phone icon (have phone connected) on the homehub flash yellow a couple of times for a few minutes.

For how I use the hubs - The type B does appear to be better than the type A - Others will say otherwise
The lug is part of the clip used to retain the hub phone base charger in position - Some do break
I guess you've never fitted one? and the hub was sent out to you as BNIB?
    (BT do 'refurbish' the hubs)
Use inSSIDer if you want to check the wireless channel for interference - it won't show hidden SSID's
You may be able to improve the range using it
Having the transformer at full stretch does help
Now for BTFon, A picture paints a thousand words.........
    BTFon Active
    BTFon off
(BT, I'm still waiting for some input on this)

  • My wifi stinks since updating to iOS 6.0.2

Since updating my iPhone 5 to iOS 6.0.2 my wifi is horrible. It will show that I have full signal and full wifi signal but my phone will not download anything. I have to restart my phone to get it to do anything. What do you guys think? Any fix yet?

I was thinking the 6.1 was going to solve all my problems (4 hours battery life and wifi useless) but no!! I'm done with this phone, and for make it worst, in my country there is no Apple Store. I bought it in Movistar (mobile network), and they said I have to leave the phone in "study" for more than a week... They need a week to note that the battery life is 4 hours! What I'm supposed to do more than a week without a phone? My phone was working fine with the 6.0.1

  • Actiontec GT704WG Rev. B router not supporting needs of WiFi use in home.

My internet WiFi lags horribly, and is suspected of causing our mobile devices to switch over to our data which has gone through the roof. Any suggestions on how this can be corrected. I have completed numerous speed test which come back ok. I have had a service tech come to the house , and he said the wires to the phone jack were loose. I am fed up with this. The load placed on the router is: 4 mobile phones, printer, Xbox, PS4 (not on at same time), and a laptop.
Any suggestions on how to remedy this situation, seriously thinking about cancelling my service with verizon if this is not fixed. Has anyone else had a similiar situation?

Reset by either unplugging the router, using the on/off switch, or using the router settings page go to advanced at the top then click on reboot router (this can be usefull if you don't want your roommates to know you temporarily interupted their internet service)
Just to clarify terminaology, reseting the router ususally refers to a hard reset of the router, whereas the actions you listed are all ways to reboot the router which does reset it to factory redafults.

  • Wifi doesn't automatically connect after installing Time Capsule

I've been having problems wifi connectivity on both of my MacBook Pros since installing a 2TB Time Capsule. They lose the wifi connection when they go to sleep/restart and I must manually select the wifi network to connect (and it takes AWHILE for it to pop up). Both are running Mountain Lion.
I know there are a lot of wifi connectivity issues out there, but I wonder if mine is different since it happened directly after installing the Time Capsule.
Also, and I'm not sure if its related, but I no longer have the Airport option in my network preferences...nor is it there when I try to "+" a new one.
    Any suggestions?

I had this problem for months. My Macbook Pro wouldn't reconnect to my wifi after sleep. Eventually found the solution - for me anyway. I switched off the 5GHz frequency on my router. I have a BT router and it operates on 2.4 GHz and 5GHz. Straight after I disabled 5GHz, it never had a problem reconnecting after sleep after that. Simple as that. I'll paste the link to the article I found below but this forum may remove it.

  • DESPERATE - 9 HRS SPENT ON PHONE TO O2 BUT THEY CANT HELP!!

My Blackberry connects to homehub WIFI but I cannot send or receive emails.  I live in an area with no mobile signal so rely on wifi connection.  I can access the internet and facebook so wifi is working so what is happening? I have deleted and reloaded my email, I have sent host tables and service books, I have had a replacement handset and SIM card.  No-one seems to know what to do.  Anyone - PLEASE!  I can send and receive emails as soon as I get into mobile signal and from the O2 shop wifi can send emails. Any help would be so much appreciated

    I would suggest this...
On your BlackBerry, go to Manage Connections > WiFi Network > Saved WiFi Networks.
Scroll to YOUR home wifi, and delete that saved profile.
Do a simple reboot on the BlackBerry in this manner: With the BlackBerry device POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery to reboot.
Meanwhile, please reboot your home WiFi router by unplugging the power cable and the incoming internet signal cable for about a minute reconnect both and allow the router to power back up.
Now, on your 8520, go back to the WiFi setup and find and connect to your home router again.
Once you're connected, you should see the RIM BlackBerry logo on the homescreen, along with your WiFI router name and 3G.

  • Time capsule 5 ghz problem.

Hi, I replaced a 5 month old faulty Time Capsule today. On setup using the original settings which the Apple store confirmed as ok to use I now cannot see the 5 ghz version of my network in the networks available list. It is connected to a bt homehub2 by Ethernet with the bt homehub wifi turned off. Can anyone please advise?????

Please open AirPort Utility and click on Manual Setup
Click on Wireless just below the icons
Look at the Radio Mode setting. If you have a dual band Time Capsule and have not  changed the setting, this will be set to Automatic.
Just below that in fine print, you will see 802.11 a/n ----802.11 n/g/b
802.11 a/n is the 5 GHz component of your dual band network
    802.11 n/g/b is the 2.4 GHz component
Both signals are being broadcasted by the Time Capsule.
If you want to see the 5 GHz network separately, then follow the instructions that I already posted to assign a separate name to that network.

  • Intel 2200BG Wireless problem

I've been doing some maintenance and updating on a friends laptop and just updated a driver from the Intel site for their Intel Pro Wireless 2200BG Wireless adapter.
(Set to channel 2, using WPA-PSK encryption - working fine before the update) After installing it - the wireless won't connect to my Homehub v1 6.2.6.E
The adapter is working fine and seeing various networks with good signal strength. They also have a HH at home, also v1 - I haven't tried that one yet.
My other devices work fine on the wifi. I rebooted both hub and computer. The adapter can see several networks - I tried turning off the windows firewall - that didn't make any difference.
It tries to connect but never acquires a network address. Device manager reports no problems or conflicts. Intel (R) Pro wireless 2200BG Intel - 19.12.2007 9.0.4.39 - w29n515s.dll 9.0.4.95 - netwc32.dll 9.0.4.95 netwr32.dll I've checked the various settings, and tried setting it to connect via 802.11b only instead of g I don't know about the various other settings.
Anyone any ideas? The machine has a non connected ethernet adapter, and a mysterious other adapter Anyone any ideas? Otherwise I have just messed up my friends wireless connection. I'm fairly sure the adapter is working fine, it is just not connecting with the hub which makes me think there are some defaults that have changed. I see a fair bit about these 2200BG Wireless adapters and BT Homehub wifie problems in google - but not sure if it applies as the 2200BG was working before the driver "update".
    My broadband secrets and tips

Okay I've given up with the Intel 2200BG- I've jumped through all the hoops I can think of - uninstalled the adapter replaced the original manufacturers old drivers, uninstalled again, updated with Intel drivers from last year, tried on an unencrypted HHub network. Anyone recommend a replacement internal WiFi adapter for the Intel 2200BG Mini PCI to go in a Hi-Grade Green 553 Notebook? I've also tried running the hub and adapter  in the b mode only, with the hub also only running in b mode.
It can detect all the networks and the software all works fine, it it can not connect. No matter WHAT I do.
Must be compatible with Win XP Home, the Hi Grade laptop and the BTHomeHub v1- and come with compatible drivers.
They look to be reasonably priced, and I'd rather get some friendly supportive peer to peer advice here before trusting myself to PCNurld.
If the worst comes to the worst I could always get a usb wifi adapter and forget the internal interface.
Again - thanks for any help
