Homepage and iPhoto upload image quality

When I use the 'homepage' option within iPhoto 5 to create an online gallery the images look brilliant using Safari on my iMac G5, however when viewed by PC users with IE6 the images seem to be quite dark.
Can I do anything with either of these applications to correct this, or do I have to manually adjust the Gamma in ImageReady for each individual photo?..
Any help greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance ..

Nick:
What are the sizes of the images you're starting with? If you're not adverse to manually uploading the image files in a folder into the Pictures folder on your iDisk and building the web page thru Safari you can fine tune your images like i do. I use the Share->Export->Web Page (actually I've added the BetterHTMLExport plugin to iPhoto for much better control over image quality) and then upload the folder of images that are created on your desktop. I give the containing folder a significant name so it's easy to find with Safari in the Homepage section.
With BetterHTMLExport there's an option to export the images only to a folder you create on the desktop. That speeds up the process a bit.
Hope this has been of some help. Good luck.

  • IPhoto vs Aperture uploaded image quality to Mobile Me

I realize this may have been discussed, but by my tests the exact same album loaded up to Mobile Me gallery via iPhoto looks better than Aperture...how can this be? I searched for topics about image quality and Mobile Me and found many complaints but little in the way of solutions. While, for me, this seems to be a solution, it is sad that my "pro" app is doing a worse job than a "consumer" app, not to mention the additional importing needed to use iPhoto. And this is v7.1.5 of iPhoto. Anyone have any other solutions for image quality involving Aperture and Mobile Me galleries? Thanks.

So the album finished uploading and the difference is amazing! I was very hesitant to send a link to my client after Aperture had uploaded the album...the images were that soft. But the iPhoto, while still a touch soft look 10X's better. Same album...just different programs used to upload to Mobile Me gallery. I'm not sure what is going on with Aperture, but Apple really needs to figure it out.

  • Sudden Overlay Shift and Drop in Image Quality

I’ve been authoring DVDs for two years now, and operating out of my current authoring lab for 4 months. All of a sudden, with this one project, I’m having a frustrating menu problem.
The symptoms of the problem are:
    1. Overlays no longer match up, they’re WAY off, by about %10 of screen size
    2. Big drop in image quality of menus, text looks like garbage.
Here’s my workflow for the menus:
    1. Create .mov files in After Effects, comp settings D1 720x486, render at lossless
    2. Pull into FCP to create audio, render in FCP as 10 Bit Uncompressed, export using compressor at MPEG-2 (DVD Best 90 minutes)
    3. Create overlay files in AE, render frames as PSD files
I’ve tried a lot of variations on this tonight, such as exporting .tiff’s from FCP and building the overlay in Photoshop, or using Compressor to encode the .mov’s from AE independent of FCP. The two symptoms are always there. When I pull the raw .mov from AE into DVD Studio Pro, the quality is a little better but the overlays are still off.
    Please Help!
    <Edited by Moderator>

I Feel your pain guys! The problem is, you are creating the comp in AE with the incorrect Size. I experienced the same problem for months and actually went back and forth between DVDSP and Photoshop until the overlays fit. After extreme headaches I decided to try something different.
    Here's my process;
    1. start by creating the comp in AE at NTSC D1 Square Pixels (720 X540)
    2. complete the animation
    3. then on rendering go to the output module and click stretch
    4. Select NTSC DV (720 X 480). This will put it down to what you need it to be in DVDSP
    5. Then create your overlays at the 720 X 486
    6. Import and build your DVD as usual and it should work out
Somehow this seems to trick DVDSP into putting things where they are supposed to be. It may seem dumb and archaic, but it beats going back and forth! I hope it works for you!

  • Iphoto Lib gone, reimported and created poor image quality

    Hi All.
I have had issues with my iphoto08. I had all my images in, then one day, everything had gone out of my library. I located the files from iphoto>data and reimported them, however they are all bad quality, and they used to be really good. ALSO. when I click on the file, and it opens up in Preview, its really small?????? If increase this, its bad quality, PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP? I need them all back to what they were like,
    Thanks All

    Gavin
Welcome to the Apple user discussion forums
you have imported the wrong photos - do you still have the iphoto library that you imported the data folder from? If you do quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library from your pictures folder to the desk top, launch iPhoto and drag each folder from the original folder in the old iPhoto library onto the running iPhoto (or the iPhoto icon in the dock) - the original photos are stored in the original folder - the data folder is just the display thumbnails
If you would describe what happened and what you have it would help in assisting you

  • IPhoto Viewer Image Quality

Working in iPhoto, I have uploaded all of my holiday pics to edit before making a photobook.
Using the Adjust features I have been sharpening them up and setting the color balance, etc; however when I export the image as a JPG (using best quality settings) the image comes out a lot more crisp than shown in iPhoto. You can see this from the attached image where the left is the exported image shown in Preview, and the right is the exact same image displayed in the iPhoto viewer...
Don't get me wrong, i'd prefer it to be this way than the opposite, but now I'm aware of it it's really straining my eyes as I'm going through my pics in iPhoto (I keep wanting to clean my glasses!), and I'm worried that I'm going to over-sharpen pics.
Does anyone know why iPhoto shows a seemingly lower-quality image in the viewer, and whether this can be changed in a setting?
    Many thanks in advance!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Are you cropping your photos to the 16:9 ratio before creating the widescreen slideshow in iPhoto and exporting them to iDVD for a widescreen project? Most digital camera images are in the 4:3 size ratio and don't convert well to the widescreen. Also check the aspect ratio that you're playing the dvd in as that can have an effect on how the slideshow looks.
Also remember that the images going to iDVD will be reduced to 640 x 480 (normal TV) and slightly larger for the widescreen version. So the pixel dimensions of the original image are not that relevant.
    Happy Holidays
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How can I retain the original quality of a photo when sending it by email. At the moment if I drag them in to the email from iphoto the image quality reduces.

When I add photos to an email by dragging them in from iphoto the quality of the photos reduce.
How can I retain the original quality.

When I add photos to an email by dragging them in from iphoto the quality of the photos reduce.
Philip, dragging from iPhoto will export previews of the image, not the original high resolution image. To export higher quality versions from iPhoto don't drag, but use "File > Export"
You can also mail your photo directly from within iPhoto using "Share > Email" and set the "Size" to "Actual Size (Full Quality)"

  • IPhoto Slideshow Image Quality when export to IDVD

Aloha ... I have two issues that I am having problems with when I export to IDVD. My images look very fuzzy (originals are very high res and print quality images} when exported to iDVD and a DVD is made. Also in the show my vertical images look fine and fill the screen yet on iDVD they are made shorter/squatier and upper and lower parts of the original image are lost. The format is wide screen as is the show. I am using a LCD wide screen TV if that helps. Any ideas out there?

  • Aperture 1.5.3 and iWeb - poor image quality and shuffled Media browser

    Hi, I have two questions:
    1. I used to use iPhoto 6 together with iWeb 1.1.2, but have since upgraded to Aperture. My Aperture library previews show up nicely in iWeb's media browser, but the quality of the thumbs on the photopage I create, and fullsize images in iWeb's slideshow look really bad and pixelated compared to when I used the exact same images from my iPhoto 6 Library. How can this be? I have set the preview size in Aperture to 1280 x 1280 and quality to 5. Does that have something to do with the poor quality?
    2. The Media browser in iWeb completely ignores the dates on the images from the Aperture library, resulting in the images being shuffled completely, making it hard to find the images I want to use. How can that be? Why doesn't it work like when I used iWeb with my iPhoto library?

  • Iphone 4 and Iphoto uploads

I have just tried to upload my new photos to iphoto from my new iphone 4 and it is not recognising the file types so will not upload them.
Error message reads, Unreadable file: the following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognised file type or the files may not contain valid data).
    Help!!

Hi, I've suffered this same problem. I recently migrated from a PC to a Mac and none of the other posts I've found on Apple have helped. I tried deleting the plist file for iPhoto, resetting the iPhone and doing any of the iPhoto library rebuilds. In the end, I found this post online that helped me 100%. I'll post the steps and the link to the post for credit. I hope this helps someone else too. Please see the post about restarting the computer or not.
    Post: http://www.calpernia.com/iphoto-wont-import-iphone-4-media-a-fix/
    Steps:
    * Quit iPhoto
    * Open Activity Monitor (Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor.app)
    * In the search window at the top right, search for PTPCamera
    * Click on PTPCamera in the list of results to highlight it
    * Click on Quit Process (the red stopsign icon in the upper left of Activity Monitor)
    * Choose “Quit”
    * If you don’t already see “Image Capture Extension” in the list, search for it in the search box. Click on “Image Capture Extension” in the list of results to highlight it
    * Choose “Quit”
    * Go to Macintosh HD > System > Library > Image Capture > Devices and open PTPCamera.app back up
    * Unplug and re-plug the iPhone 4. iPhoto should open, if you’ve set it to do so when a camera is plugged in. Otherwise, open it. You should see your media available for import from the iPhone 4 when you click on the iPhone 4 in the devices list.

  • Still Image distortion and washed out image quality after exporting

    Hi,
I am a relatively new Final Cut Studio 2 user I've taken a few classes and I know the basics and a little beyond. So far my projects have been coming out well until I started having to add still images to my projects. When I add these images I size down in Photoshop CS3 appropriately, usually they are really large tiffs or standard jpegs. Then when I import them into Final Cut I size them one more time to match the wire frame. When I play the movie I created in Final Cut it looks great but after I export it using compressor I either get a pixilated type of image distortion or the images are washed out, but its usually only on certain images not all images in the project are affected. My projects usually end up embedded on our website or up on youtube or bliptv, so I have been bouncing between the H.264 300Kbps for medium bandwidth streaming and H.264 800 Kbps for high bandwidth. Would someone be able to tell me if there is a better codec I should use for the web that would get rid of these problems that I am having or do I need to size my images in a different way? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    The Louse~

  • Poor image quality elements 12 slideshow preview

As I can't find any reference to my original post I thought I'd re-do it.  I created a slideshow in elements 12 and found the image quality to fall far short of high definition.  The source folder for the images used is contained in Windows Pictures.  The pictures were taken with a Canon t4i camera with the image quality being excellent.  For whatever reason the quality of the slideshow images are poor.  Any help would be appreciated.

Don't purchase a video editing app to work with just still images. They are meant to be used with DV and really don't do a still image any justice.
The final source format should determine the software used. You are suggesting a DVD distribution of your work.
iPhoto is meant to be used on still images (not iMovie, in my opinion).
You don't really want to convert a single frame into multiple frames if you don't need to.
You may want to try the Photo JPEG, Motion JPEG or Animation codecs from iMovie and see if they improve the visual appearance of your work.
Since you want to use a DVD as the distribution method then iDVD may not be the best option either. It is meant for set top boxes using a poor 720X480 dimension in MPEG-2 video format.
You may want to consider a bit different approach and use a "data" DVD and use QuickTime Player as the playback engine. These will only play on a computer but your could use the higher dimensions to your advantage and also the visual quality of computer displays to showcase your work.
Since HD DVD players are not yet ready for mass use it may be a better way to distribute your work.
There is no 720X480 dimension limit (only the limit set by the viewer on the display size when viewed on a computer monitor).
Your "still" images would remain "still" except for transitions.
Heck. You could probably put the whole file onto a CD and save even more in production costs.

  • Satellite S70-A-11H web camera image quality is not good

    Hi,
Running windows 8.1 which came with the laptop.
    New out of the box.
    As per title.
I find the image quality of the camera image to be very grainy, poor color etc.
When I start the web camera using the search bar on the right, it starts using the Microsoft application, when you scroll down to settings all that is available under settings/options is Photo aspect ratio, Grid lines, Location info.
I have been in touch with Toshiba Tech support who advised to do a Laptop refresh, which I did.
    This made no difference.
After which they asked me to find the Toshiba web camera application on the laptop, this should have been in the Program Files folder in the Toshiba folder.
This application does not exist on my laptop.
The tech checked the same model laptop that he had available, which I was told when he selected the web camera, it opened using the Toshiba Web camera application, not Microsoft.
I have looked at other Toshiba laptops with web cameras, and found the image quality to be better. Unable to get to settings as these laptops were on display and in demo mode, hence locked down to some extent.
I can't believe that a web camera in this day and age for this value of laptop to have such poor image quality. My digital camera from 10year ago has better image quality.
I have checked through the laptop, and I do not have this application installed.
I have checked for updated drivers and software for my laptop, and cannot find this application to be applicable for my laptop. Drivers etc appear to be up to date.
I would like to know, do other users of this S series have any issue of camera image quality.
When the camera is selected what application is being used, Toshiba or Microsoft.
Is Toshiba web camera application applicable to Windows 8.1, as I cannot see it listed for 8.1
Does this sound like a hardware fault or a application/software issue.
Any direction or help on this matter would be appreciated, as I am getting to the point of returning this laptop for a refund.
    Thanks in advance.
    D.
Yes, I have tried using the FORCE!

    > The tech checked the same model laptop that he had available, which I was told when he selected the web camera, it opened using the Toshiba Web camera application, not Microsoft.
The Toshiba webcam application is available for Win 7 system but the Win 8 and Windows 8.1 system use the own Microsoft webcam application.
    > I have looked at other Toshiba laptops with web cameras, and found the image quality to be better.
Different Toshiba notebooks are equipped with different webcams.
Satellite S70-A-11H was equipped with a *0.92 mega pixel webcam*
A Satellite A660 for example was equipped with an _1.3M mega pixel webcam_
So there is a difference in webcam resolution

  • Low image quality on Android using CameraRoll.addBitmapData

When using CameraRoll.addBitmapData on Android the resulting .jpg's quality is quite low in what looks like 50% jpg compression. In iOS the quality is much better. How do I reduce the compression on Android and increase the image quality? I don't quite understand why the compression is so high and why there isn't a method argument to adjust it.
    Is there a work-around?
My app is an art app that users typically export imagery from to use in other apps or share. When the quality is so low, the additional compression in another app makes it even worse.
Any help is apprecaited it. Thanks in advance.

As DPI, or PPI, are meaningless in Video, one should concentrate on the pixel x pixel dimensions. Also, with the exception of PrPro CS5 & 5.5, with CUDA/MPE acceleration, Scaling of stills in an image editing program, like Photoshop, will yield better quality. This ARTICLE goes into more detail, and also gives tips on doing batch Scaling of entire folders of still images for Video use.
    Good luck,

  • Flash in Premiere Elements Image Quality issue

    Hello,
I've decided now that I am going to create animated films in Flash and then edit them in Premiere Elements. the problem is, is that when I export it from Flash to Premiere Elements the Image quality is detiereoreted (i.e fuzzy, blurry, out of focus, general ugly to look at). I first realised that I couldnt use an swf file in Premiere and isntead I should use an AVI. So I did. Problem is I'm still having the same problem. the Image quality is still terrible and doesn't equal up to the origonal image quality. And then tried Uncompressing it and all that did is make the video clip jump over about 80 frames and still the image quality is terrible. Is their one little thing that I'm doing wrong or Am I altogether not getting this right.
    Programs I'm using:
    Macromedia Flash MX 2004
    Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0
Adobe Premiere Elements 7.0 (currently not working)

The MS DV CODEC should be installed on your system already. Whether Flash can Export to it could still be an issue. I'll have to check my version of Flash (think that it's Studio 8, but I've had it around from version 2) to see what all of the options are.
I've been handed many Flash animations that were Exported as .MOV with the Animation CODEC, and these have edited fine.
Other than the huge file sizes, AVI [Uncompressed] should work fine too. You might have resource issues, but that would depend on your system, more than on your NLE. I've used these with no issues many times.
Another likely candidate would be the free Lagarith Lossless CODEC. I use it for intermediate transfer and it edits fine in PrPro. I would assume that it would be the same in PrE, but cannot verify this.
On Monday, I'll be on my workstation with Flash and will tell you the exact version, plus the Export options available.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
