HomePage and iWeb problems

I am using HomePage as my download page for my iWeb site (which you can't do on iWeb, but does anyone know if you can do this on iWeb 8?). I have used this process before and have simply added pdf files to my Public folder in iDisk. When I try to add new files on HomePage, the files that I see on my iDisk are not shown in the editing section of HomePage. Why don't those files show up? I have always just dragged the pdf files into iDisk's Public folder and it has worked many, many times in the past. Can anyone help? What am I now doing wrong or differently?

Hi,
in iWeb 2 there is an option to link to a document (and I guess it is download but I never used that myself). I put my files in a .zip and upload them to a folder. Then I put a normal link (external page link) linking to the zip files on my pages and as soon as someone clicks on the link the download starts. That would work on iWeb 1x too I think.
I don't have .Mac so I can't answer the question, sorry...
Regards,
Cédric

  • Homepage via iWeb problems with google etc.

I created a homepage with iWeb uploaded it to my university's server and created a new link with nic.de.vu. Then I registered it at google, yahoo etc. I got a message that the registration was successful. But this happened more than four weeks ago. The page works if I type in the adress but I can't find it on any search engine.
How long does it take or made I a mistake with iWeb?
    I would appreciate help.

See this page for how to add your URL and create and upload a verification file.....
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/SearchEngines/Tools.html
The following pages cover Keywords, Tags and Sitemaps.
The verification file tells Google that your site exists, the sitemap guides the spiders through it to find relevant keywords in your text.
All the information about when your site was crawled and what the spiders found is available when you login to your Google Dashboard.

  • Aperture created homepages and iWeb created web pages

Is there a way around the fact that Aperture created pages go into a "homepage.mac.com" directory when iWeb goes to "web.mac.com" directory??
The problem is to get all my creations (from Aperture and/or iWeb) into the same folder = much easier to give one type of address to my friends and family!
Precisely, can I change iWeb-like web sites into Aperture-like web sites ?

i have both and i don't know if you can or can't, i was thinking about just making the aperture album and copying the layout if need in iweb and linking to the aperture site. I have yet to make a site in aperture though, i will keep a look out for any info

  • 3rd party application publishing to homepages and iweb

I have some 3rd party apps (Mac gourmet, comic life, etc) that publish to the Sites folder on your idisk.
The url for them is somewhere of homepage.mac.com like
    http://homepage.mac.com/jchiarelli/MyRecipes/culinarysecrets/index.html
    http://homepage.mac.com/jchiarelli/MyRecipes/ChristmasCookies/index.html
    http://homepage.mac.com/jchiarelli/comiclife/
Now i didnt see any mention of the url for homepages going away with the axe of homepages application, but i would like to be prepared and better integrated with iweb.
Any suggestions for integrating iweb with static html pages created by 3rd party apps?
    Thanks Joe

Joe ~ Since iWeb can't import HTML pages, one suggestion is to publish your current sites to the same iDisk space iWeb uses by following the instructions in this Apple doc:
MobileMe: How to publish a custom website
...This would put your sites in Web > Sites folder and the URL would be:
    http://web.me.com/membername/foldername/
Then you could remove your sites occupying the "HomePage" area, i.e. the Sites folder on iDisk.

  • Chrome and iWeb problem

    Hi there!
I got my Mac a few months ago, and I've started working on an iWeb site. Everything was going REALLY swell until I published it to a folder and tried to run it with Chrome (which is currently my default browser). Unlike FireFox and Safari, Chrome would not display the navigation bar at all which basically rendered the site unusable to Chrome users.
Is there a fix for this, or can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    ultimatelifeform22
P.S. This website is for a podcast that I'm working on, which makes iWeb a great app for me to use.

Static pages created in iWeb do not require a server to be previewed locally
Test it yourself with Chrome and you will see that it is not true for that browser. In any case it is a waste of time to try to solve problems which people claim to have with sites they are viewing locally. Until you can see it on a server you never know if the problem really exists or has much relation with the way they described it.

  • Dreamweaver and iWeb problems

Here's the problem. I created a web page and because I needed
to put a script in the page, I used placeholder text "BOXTEXT" so
that I would know to open the page in DW, find the word BOXTEXT and
    replace it with my script.
BUT, not only does the DW search box not find the word
BOXTEXT, it doesn't find ANY of the words in my document. I tried
changing the word BOXTEXT to AARDVARK and then searching for
AARDVARK - still it says it is not in the document.
What's the problem here? I am searching for text and not
Source Code, and this does work with other pages...
    Any advice?
I tried updating DW MX with the 6.1 updater, but it claims
not to find DW in my Applications folder... when it is actually
    there... sigh

Make sure you are in design view to search for text and in
    code view to
search for code. You may have inadvertently put your key word
    inside some
code so a text search won't find it. Switch to code view and
    search for
your word in code. Next, try the notepad solution.

  • Movie and iWeb Problem

I posted a Quicktime movie (7.04) in medium streaming. My friends with PC's can't open it. Are there other settings I should use?

The problem is a lot of pc users are on company
computers at work and do not have the ability to
    install software.
My sister-in-law is on her PC at home, has the latest QuickTime and still cannot see my video (she hears the sound, though). I've tried it on both my iBook using Virtual PC and Windows XP Pro, and on a real PC running XP, and I can see and hear my video perfectly well.
    What's up with that??
    Kittenmommy.
PS. I'm exporting it as a Sorenson video right now - we'll see if that helps.

  • AOL and PC iWeb problems?

Why don't my iWeb pages appear in AOL? Is there a fix for this forthcoming from Apple?
I've seen posts here that complain about iWeb sites not displaying properly on PC's but all of my friends with PC's report no problem with my site. Are there certain circumstances or certain browsers that are specific to producing iWeb problems on a PC? (As in, is there anything I should avoid doing on my pages?)
    Thanks...

    I doubt it.

  • 2 Homepages with Iweb ??

Hi, I am really in trouble...I created 2 homepages with iweb. Homepage 1 is already online. Everything fine so far. The problem is the second homepage as it is apparently using the same index file as homepage number 1 - can this be? I do publish through Strato and not Mac. I export the homepage number 2 to a separate file. But homepage number 1 is always registered together with number 2. i cannot separate the 2 homepages.
And if I open the folder of homepage number 2 and copy the index file on the same level as folder homepage 1 and hompeage 2 mac askes me whether I would like to replace the existing index file . This is the index file from homepage number 1. If I do this, it is not getting better. My homepage number 2 is not working...urgently need your help - thanks!!

Yes, I understand perfectly that you are not using MobileMe to publish to, which is why I asked how many domain names you had.
I know you said that you have separated the folders, but did you separate the domain files? If not you need to do this so that the sites can be published to a folder separately. To find the domain files, go to User/Library/Application Support/iWeb and then domain.sites file.
Have you given both your sites different names within iWeb at the top? If not, you should do this, or publishing your sites might get confusing.
When you publish to a folder from iWeb, what you get is a site folder that has the same name as your site within iWeb, plus a separate index.html file. You need to upload both of these. What I suggest you do is go to your second site within iWeb and publish this to a folder again and you should get the site folder and the index file published. Then upload to your server again and if you upload both, then it should work. You do need to place the items in the Public_html folder on your server for your site to be seen.
If I were you, I would use a good ftp program such as Cyberduck to upload - it is totally free to download and easy to use.

  • Another iWeb Problem

I have been updating an iWeb site (which I initially set up in early March but STILL will not be found by a Google search)
The problem I now have is that when I update old pages and / or add new ones then click 'publish' when I search for the URL I just get the same old pages as below
    http://web.mac.com/eltsa/iWeb/MacandAlfsWoofGuide/home%20page.html
To give you an idea of what I expect to find if I delete the 'home%20page' and add 'Clumber%20&%20Thoresby'
    http://web.mac.com/eltsa/iWeb/MacandAlfsWoofGuide/Clumber%20&%20Thoresby.html
    - I get to see all of the site as it should be but when I then click on Home I lose the new pages and it reverts to the old site as above
    Baffled - any ideas ?

    http://web.mac.com/eltsa
The above is your short iWeb URL. There is no real need to remember any other URL unless you have multiple sites (I realize you do), and even then you only need to specify up to the sitename. When I type in the short URL, it takes me to your Homepage and I can also click over to Clumber & Thoresby and back just fine. Are these the most up to date pages?
Could you clarify your problem some more for me? I'm not seeing a problem based on your above description. All the pages seem to be there and functioning properly.
For good measure, you should empty your browser cache in case you are seeing weird stuff show up from your browser memory. In Safari, look under the Safari menu and select "Emtpy cache..."

I am currently running Firefox 4 and have igoogle set as my homepage. Both with the previous version of Firefox and with the new one I have about a 1/16 inch blue gap/space between the top of my igoogle homepage and the bottom of the Firefox ribbon/header. • How can i get the homepage i want to remain the perminate homepage? I have done everything it tells you to set homepage and it only saves it while the current browser is open. When I close out browser and reopen it is gone.

When i set the homepage of my choice it will only remain until i close out the browser. once i reopen the browser it is no longer there. The past version of firefox would keep the homepage of choice. I have done everything that is necessary to set homepage and it will not save it. What needs to be done?

Which web page is getting reset as the homepage?
You probably picked up some malware, maybe as a result of installing that My Web Search Plugin Stub for 32-bit Windows.
Install, update, and run these programs in this order. They are all free for personal use, but some have limited functionality in the "free mode" - but those are features you really don't need to find and remove the problem that you have. <br />'''''(Not all programs detect the same Malware.)'''''

  • Firefox always opens to the pages I was on in the previous session, even though Google is my homepage and it is set to load to my homepage upon opening.

Every time I open a new session of Firefox, instead of it going to the homepage that I have selected, it simply loads all tabs from the previous session I closed. This even happens after I've turned off and back on my computer. I have the settings so that my homepage is Google, and it is set to always go to my homepage upon startup. Addons is not the problem, I have not installed any new addons, and this is only a recent problem. I think it is a problem with Firefox itself, but of course there is no Mozilla customer service to speak to. I can see on the forums that many people are having this same problem right now. Please Mozilla, if you actually look at the forums, FIX THIS!!! Any anyone providing replies, please do not tell me to check my settings, because they are all correct, and the problem is NOT third party software. There is also NO file in my profile folder called user.js, so that is not the problem, either!

jennifer, if you just see a file titled "user", this is because your windows operating system is set to hide some file extensions: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hide-file-name-extensions#show-hide-file-name-extensions=windows-7
most probably this is exactly the user.js file to delete in order to address your problem...
though i can't say why it appeared in your case, you're right that many times this file is created by malicious software. therefore i'd recommend to run a scan with two security tools specialised on adware and browser hijackers: the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes] and [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner].

Open up Firefox's options and head to the "Privacy" section. In the middle of that section there's a dropdown labelled "Firefox will". Make sure this is set to to "Remember history" to enable cookies.
If this option is already selected, or doing so doesn't solve your problem, let us know and we can dig a little deeper into Firefox's settings.
