Homepage changes

I have my hotmail inbox set as my homepage. Each time I open firefox, after closing the window, bearware search shows up as my homepage. This has already happened a few times and I keep resetting hotmail as my homepage. Please help, because there really is no point in having a homepage if that is not the page it opens to. Thank you

Please see there two other forum threads that address this problems with Bearshare.

  • Firefox homepage changed. Lost Icons for Gmail, YouTube, etc that use to appear on the home page. How do I get them to appear back on the Firefox homepage?

A week ago, my Firefox homepage changed and I've lost the ability to have Gmail, YouTube, etc appear at the left top of the homepage. I tried to reset by going to settings and set the default but still can not figure out how to get Gmail, YouTube, etc to appear on the homepage.
    Thank you,
    Julia

Is your home page now https://www.google.com/ ?
If you are missing the traditional "black bar" at the top of the page, that has been replaced with an application button on the right side that looks like a grid of small squares. Some creative developers have posted add-ons to restore the old bar. I haven't tried these myself:
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/proper-menubar/ Proper Menubar]

  • How do I get rid of a permanent Firefox Homepage Change Notification?

A Firefox page came up that said well this is embarrassing and then on top of that another small page came up that says Firefox homepage change notification and everytime i click on OK to revert to my previous home page nothing happens and it won't go away and I can't use Firefox because of it so how do I make it go away?

This is on Windows, Mac or Linux?
That notification may be from an add-on, and it probably can't do anything useful until you have dealt with the post-crash session restore page showing your previous session windows and tabs. Can you cancel the notification instead of clicking OK to see whether that works any better?
If not, try starting Firefox in its Safe Mode, which deactivates extensions and probably will bypass that change monitoring feature. Here's where there are some OS differences...
When Firefox is not running, to start Firefox in Safe Mode, hold down the:
    * Windows: Shift key
    * Mac: option key
while launching Firefox using its shortcut. A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset).
Can you get through the session restore screen successfully?

  • How to get rid of Google on homepage/change homepage

    Hi Firefox/Mozilla
    I have a strange problem.
On my workstation, running Win8.1, I have Firefox installed.
I have once set my homepage to show https://www.google.dk/?gws_rd=cr,ssl&ei=BoTlVNXUGqvRygPbyoGQCQ
Now I want my home page to show https://duckduckgo.com/ instead.
I know how to change the homepage in Firefox, and it works, but only until I close Firefox.
When opening Firefox again, I am back to Google.
I have tried to change the homepage by dragging DuckDuckGo to the little house, and then say yes.
I have tried to change by Options and the change to Current page.
I have tried to change by Options, and the change to bookmark.
I have even tried to change by altering in the about:config - Browser.startup.homepage.
I have tried to open Firefox in safe mode, and make my changes there, but no luck.
I have tried to disable all add-ons, but no luck.
Nothing works - when restarting, I am back to Google.
I have managed to change the top search box to DuckDuckGo, so that works fine.
Anyone knows how to change homepage to DuckDuckGo and make it stick?
I thank you for your help.

    Reply from Diego Victor
Suggestion 1) It looks like I have the correct Target
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
Suggestion 2) I have tried to Reset Firefox to default, byt that dident changed anything.
    Reply from the-edmeister
I have tried to find the user.js
But followering Diego Victors suggestion 2, to find the profilefolder, I didt not find the user.js
I have tried to do a search on my PC but no file with that name is to be found?
And in the file prefs.js, there is no checkmark in Read Only.
I didt however find a file called Profiles witch is a Configuration settings (.ini) -file. I deleted all content, but that didt not solve my puzzle.
    But thanks for your suggestions.

For info I am currently using Firefox 29.0

  • Around midnight everynight, my homepage changes even though I have already set it.

This happens every night. Doesn't matter if I am on a site or not. As soon as I might start on a site, as soon as I click the next page, all my settings change. My homepage is not what I have the settings set for.

hello rushyyy, this sounds like a problem possibly caused by adware/malware on your pc. please go to firefox > addons > extensions & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc). also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there and do a full scan of your system with the security software that you have in place and/or a different tool like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes].

  • My homepage changed to Google Pakistan

Hey everyone, I use Safari 5.0.4 on my Macbook, and Google (google.com) is my homepage. This morning, I turned on my computer and opened Safari, and Google Pakistan (google.com.pk) is now my homepage.  I closed Safari and opened again, and same thing.  Does this mean my computer was hacked, or could there be another reason for this?  I've had this Mac since 2006, and I've never seen this.  Please help!  Thank you!

It doesn't necessarily mean your computer was hacked but it could be that your ISP is redirecting your browser.
Use Open DNS. It's free and includes anti phishing filters.
Open System Preferences / Preferences then select the Network tab. Click the Advanced tab then click the DNS tab.
    Click +
Enter these numbers exactly as you see them here.
    208.67.222.222
    Click +

    Then click OK.

I set my home page to MSN and I used to get the "normal" MSN page with graphics, pictures and news print. Firefox changed my MSN home page to a "list" view that shows just links, no pictures (or very few) and no print to read the news. How can I get Firefox to recognize a normal MSN page?

  • I downloaded a music software and then deleted it. It changed my homepage designation and I can't get it to change back to Firefox. I do know how to change this but it is not working. Can you help?

The music software is imesh and I have changed my homepage designation with Firefox, in my internet options for Windows. Every time I close the page, the homepage changes back to imesh search page. I have deleted imesh from my computer including going to windows explorer and deleting all imesh that I can find to no avail.

Steps to remove iMesh as your homepage:<BR>
    # In the address bar, type '''about:config''' and press Enter.
    # In the '''Filter''' textbox at the top, type: '''keyword.URL'''
    # You will be presented with the entry for keyword.URL
    # Double-click on it, delete the string and press OK.
    # Exit from Firefox.
Next, you need to set the desired website as your homepage. Open Firefox and follow the instructions given in this article: [[How to set the home page]].

  • Homepage kept change to other website

i set my homepage to http://i.firefoxchina.cn/, but it always direct me to http://www.hao123.com/.
even if i open http://i.firefoxchina.cn/ straightly from the browser.
i tried many ways listed in internet, but it doesn't work at all.
    thanks

Why Does My Homepage Keep Changing and How Do I Make it Stop?
You log on to your computer and open your internet browser and to your dismay your homepage has changed. You change it back but the next time you log on, it’s changed again. What you are experiencing is called browser hijacking. Browser hijacking is a form of malware, or spyware, that changes an internet browsers setting including homepage. Created for advertising and commercial purposes, the malware gathers information about websites visited and sends it through the internet to the malware writer. The malware can also redirect a user to a specific website thereby increasing the number of hits the site receives. This increases advertising costs for the website and profits the webmaster.
    What Browser Hijacking Software Does
Unlike regular viruses that spread, browser hijacking malware must be installed and the installation can be done with or without the user’s consent. This happens during three common internet activities:
Pop-ups – Hijackers install code on pop-up ads and when the user clicks on the ad, the browser hijacking software is installed. This happens without a set up wizard or warning.
    Downloading freeware or shareware
Silent installation during a reputable installation – Like a parasite, some malware depend on its host for installation.
    How to Remove Spyware
Violating a user’s privacy and tracking browsing habits are just a couple of example of the many consequences of browser hijacking. The internet user may experience unstableness, extra windows popping up, redirection of surfing, and new bookmarks that were not previously selected by the user. Overall, the internet becomes a nightmare for the user and if’s the first time dealing with this type of spyware, they may not know how to remove it from their computer.
There are several steps to remove the program from the infected computer:
Task ManagerShut down the browser. If the browser is out of control, access the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+ Alt+ Delete and clicking on the browser process in the Processes tab.
Disable pop ups. Typically under Tools and Options in the web browser is the setting for pop ups.
Run an anti-spyware program. Spyware cannot be removed with anti-virus software; it must be removed with anti-spyware tools. If you do not have an anti-spyware program, look for a program that includes a real time monitoring tool that will prevent known risks and unauthorized system changes.
Review for unwanted programs in Add and Remove Programs in your operating system.
Your homepage change isn’t only annoying, it’s also a sign that your computer has been infected with a browser hijacking malware. This type of malware spies on the user by tracking browsing habits and it causes multiple system problems on the computer itself. Malware can be removed easily and effectively with an anti-spyware program. Because it installs itself in the computer, anti-virus programs can neither identify nor remove spyware. Selecting a spyware program with a real time monitoring tool, like PC Whiz, will prevent some additional attacks.
Download PC Whiz if you are experiencing spyware related homepage errors.

I downloaded Avast & Malwarebytes, ran them, then deleted them. Avast downloaded Chrome automatically. I deleted that but It changed my homepage from Yahoo to something else. I do what it says but the To Make page comes up every time Yahoo home page comes up. I tried redoing Firefox but that does not help. Assistance would be appreciated.
